Pros And Cons In The Philippines
I disagree with this statement, because I believe that no matter how bad the international reputation of a country can be, it can still somehow be
remedied through different means. It is false to assume that no amount of PR can help, because it truly can. It is true that crime, corruption, cultural
immaturity, and disunity are present in the Philippines. It does not help that the news and media outlets mostly put out negative news and content.
However, this should not be the main image that is being portrayed internationally. Although it is not easy to change the Philippines' international
image, it is not impossible because of PR.
PR is really tailored to fit specific situations, and one of them is to invite people to visit a country. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A good PR message must have a catch phrase that is concise yet encompasses the scope of what needs to be said. It must also be easy to remember,
so the publics would retain the message easily. A good PR message, especially in this case, must be easy to execute and integrate into culture. The key
problem here is that the bad qualities of the Philippines that are most often shown through international news outlets might drive foreigners away.
Therefore, the PR message should focus on the integration of the good characteristics that the Philippines can offer. There should be a focus on the
beautiful beaches or other places in nature that can only be found in the Philippines. It should focus on how warm and welcoming the Filipino people
are. It should focus on how conducive it is for international clients to invest in properties or start up businesses in the Philippines. A good PR message
can take away the focus of the foreigners from the bad issues that are prevalent in our country. Instead, it provides a certain reality for them that the
Philippines are an amazing place to visit or invest in. Therefore, the PR message must contain interesting facts about the Philippines that would

Journey In The Philippines : My Journey Through The...
Journey Through the Phillipines
I have always been interested in my heritage, thus I do my best to indulge myself in the culture of the Philippines. As a result, my pilgrimage will take
place in the Philippines, but not just to go and see the sights and enjoy the food, but to find a rainbow Eucalyptus tree, "The tree is the only Eucalyptus
species found naturally in the northern hemisphere. And yes, it's also native in the Philippines, but it's not found solely in that part of the country,
but in other islands as well, such as Negros."(The Rainbow Tree of Bago City) This journey will test my knowledge of the botany and wildlife in
the Philippines, without ever being there myself. With the hope of obtaining knowledge and experiences that my ancestor may have endured that
will possibly have a life lasting effect on me. Within the Philippines, multiple languages are spoken, due to the very tribal attributes that the
Philippines has. Thus, before I begin on my journey, I would have to learn and relearn some of the languages including, but not limited to,
"Tagalog, Ilocano, and Bisaya..."(Major Languages of the Philippines) so that I may be able to communicate on my own without the need for an
interpreter, to be somewhat self sufficient. Another barrier will be the weather, for the Philippines tends to have more humidity and rain than Texas,
thus may cause my body to take time to adapt to the climate, since there is also a slight decrease in the average elevation between the Philippine and
Texas. Also, transportation will be an issue when I am hopping from island to island, for the Philippines is a chain of dormant and inactive volcanic
Islands. For the four main forms of transportation I will most likely use while I am in the Philippines will be a Jeepney, which is a twin–benched
jitney bus, seating about a dozen passengers, "As American troops began to leave the Philippines at the end of World War II, hundreds of surplus
jeeps were sold or given to local Filipinos. Locals stripped down the jeeps to accommodate several passengers, added metal roofs for shade, and
decorated the vehicles with vibrant colors and bright chrome hood ornaments" (History of the Philippine Jeepney ) A second form of transportation

one with the highest population density in the world. With a growth rate of 2 percent every year it is also known as one of the fastest growing

done by Research Center Global Attitudes Project says that Filipinos have a 85% positive view of Americans and America. The same Philippine
respondents have also claimed that America has had a great deal of positive influence in their country.
1. Krizel, a co–worker/friend, was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to the United States when she turned 22 years old with her father.
Krizel lived a very laborious and difficult life as a kid all the way to her early teens, living in a two bedroom apartment for a family of six; it could
become crowded sometimes. "The Philippines teaches you to work at an early age" Krizel said, you would have to go to the nearest lake every
morning so that you may have water to bathe yourself that day, carrying 4–5 buckets of water to the house and back was very tiring. She would have to
walk about 6 to 7 miles everyday to go to the nearest school

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Filipinos
Nowadays, lots of Filipino people choose to work abroad. Some are in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, and other foreign countries. But the question is,
why they choose to work abroad than staying in their own country? There are 11 main reasons why several Filipinos choose to work abroad, these
11 reasons was made by Fritz Natividad on November 19, 2012. Other sources like books, magazines, newspapers and lots of sites in the internet
have different numbers of reason. Due to lots of reasons, only 4 reasons are common. This are Salary, Pressure from family and peer influence,
Self–interest and lastly only opportunity to travel and experience abroad. In addition, working abroad has its advantages and disadvantages. Thesis
statement Filipino workers endure being away from their families most of the time because they need to work abroad than to work locally and see
their families struggling to a severe economic burden. Body The main purpose why Filipinos work abroad is to have a higher salary income because

Implications of Taking Care of a Filipino Patient
Herrera, Lei Dianne A. Uinversity of the Philippines – Manila College of Nursing Batch 2016 Implications of Taking Care of a Filipino Patient
Communication and language play a vital role in establishing good connection between patients and their respective health care providers such as
nurses. Mejico (2004) concluded that, "it is in their own mother tongue that a person can truly express his innermost sentiments, ideas, perceptions, and
attitudes." Relating it to class discussions, most Filipino students find it easier to learn and understand if the teacher considers a balanced use of the

Having a background of the patients' cultural orientation is very important as a nurse because interpreting and analyzing behavior is not an easy task if
one does not have any idea of the patient's socio–cultural influences. Behavior is influenced by innate and outside forces thereby making the patients'
observable behavior not enough to conclude right away. One also has to be aware of the innate side. Filipino nurses and Filipino patients as well
possess some similarities in their psychological backgrounds which help nurses to relate the patients' behavior to her experiences. Filipinos in general
have similarities in some patterns of behavior referring to, and as explained by the Filipino Psychology. The study of Filipino psychology conducted by
Mejico (2004) concludes that Filipino personality is a blend of Western influence in external aspects like aesthetic tastes and preferences, and Asian
influence which accounts for the ultimate core of his character. These influences contribute to the positive generalization that Filipinos are caring,
loving, compassionate and emphatic in nature. It is the

Reflection Paper About Field Trip
Field Trip Reflection Paper In the course of our field trip last March 5 to the provinces of Bataan and Laguna, one question had come up to me as I
marvel at the various sites in our trip. What is really our Filipino culture and, more importantly, how do we preserve it in the rapidly changing times of
our modern world? With the help of this reflection paper, I hope to find the answer and enlighten myself with the identity of my country– and in that
effect – of myself as a Filipino too. Starting out with a tour of the many buildings erected in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan, I noticed that
some of the structures we were introduced to weren't what they were intended to be. Not exactly a pure restoration, per se. In fact, all of the buildings
there, mostly houses, aren't just remade for the sole purpose of residing there. They are monuments, or even museums, left behind as mementos for...

Up next on our itinerary was The Philippine Refugee Processing Center (PRPC) in Morong, Bataan. I, for one, was surprised to find such a camp
had existed in our country and I was excited to learn how Filipinos were so ready to help and accept those in need – showing our bayanihan spirit even
to foreigners to our country. It all started with a boat, constructed with whatever desperate hand could find as Vietnamese men and women struggled to
flee from their war–torn land. A miracle saved them as their both managed to withstand strong waves and stormy seas before being rescued by their
Filipino neighbours. However, their recovery didn't stop there as their refugee camp was transformed into an ideal community, where they were once

Three Principles Of Distributive Justice
People see distributive justice through different views. The distribution of goods (or attention, praise, etc.) is analyzed in different ways by different
people. There are three principles of distributive justice, these principles are equity, equality and need. Equity pertains to people getting goods or
rewards in direct relation to the work they put in or what is perceived to be of greater importance. For example, a star player in the pro–league may
deserve higher pay then his/her teammate who warms the bench. Though the two earn different amounts of salary, there is distributive justice (equity)
in that they are being fairly paid in correspondence to their contributions to the team. Equality on the other hand, means equal rewards for everyone...

It can be said that altruism is the opposite of selfishness. One who is altruistic is concerned with the welfare of others without expectations of anything
in return. ABS–CBN's slogan: In the Service of the Filipino Worldwide comes off as very altruistic. I mean, they are for the service of all Filipinos
with no intention of getting anything in return right? Maybe. Maybe not. This is not to say that ABS CBN does not actually care for the Filipino
people. As with many psychological theories and concepts, the psychology of helping is complex and multi–faceted. For one, there are different
motivations to why people help. Let us discuss these in relation to ABS CBN's slogan. Apart from altruism, there are three other kinds of
motivations. Collectivism in regard to helping is serving the community to benefit a certain group or collective of people. The group can range from
2 people to 2 billion. When one is part of a group, there is a tendency to not only want to help and better your group, there is a tendency to feel
indebted to help simply because you are part of the group. Either way it is the motivation to help because of being part of particular collection of
people. ABS CBN can easily have collectivism as its motive, wanting to enhance and empower the Filipino people and society of which they belong
to as a corporation. Their slogan can be seen as valuing the welfare of the Filipino people, a collective ABS CBN most

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Filipino People
Building the Filipino people involves everyone. Our leaders cannot do it for us. We must look at ourselves, both objectively and understandingly, as
we try to remove our weaknesses and develop our strengths. To be better, understanding ourselves is the first step. Once we have learned to
appreciate and value our being Filipinos, building our nation, achieving goals of peace and social justice will come next. Filipinos have a very strong
and resilient character. This was developed by the hardships and challenges we have faced throughout our history. Foreign powers have conquered our
lands, but never defeated our spirit. Among our positive traits are: Pakikipagkapwa–Tao (regard for others). It results in camaraderie and a feeling of...

knowledge about our nation. I don't know much about Antonio Luna yet what I recall most from him was the way that he was Juan Luna's more
youthful sibling and that he was a general who battled amid the Philippine–American War. Despite the fact that I was constantly mindful to my history
instructors' addresses in both basic and secondary school, I scarcely recall our class examining in subtle elements Antonio Luna's life and additionally

The Philippines is located in Asia, it's a large island that has a lot of diversity and culture. The Philippines is located directly above Indonesia and
is below Taiwan. It is home to over one hundred and five million people. The Philippines is actually considered an archipelago, and is the second
largest one in the world. The landscape is beautiful that is made up of many islands, different landmarks and history. The capital of the Philippines is
Manila, which has the highest populated density in the world. The Philippines is a very diverse island because when it was being established the
people that came there were mostly immigrants and migrated there from other lands. They were mainly descents of Chinese, but they also have
descents of Spanish and American. They had very little contact with surrounding countries. Since, the population was made up of immigrants the
Philippines was passed around by different rulers. At one point, the Philippines was ruled by the Spanish and that's why most Filipinos have Spanish
names because they required them to. The Philippines gets its name from the King of Spain, Philip II, who was one of the rulers of the Philippines.

Why Is Heneral Luna A Hero

Heneral Luna: An Analysis of the Quest of a Hero Heneral Luna is a movie directed by Jerrold Tarog illustrating what happened after the long reign of
the Spaniards in the Philippines, specifically the events during General Luna's quest of clashing against the American colonizers. The film exhibited
Luna's remarkable military prowess and it also revealed that his fight was not only against the foreign invaders but also with the treacherous Filipinos
within their ranks and even within the Philippine Revolutionary Government. General Antonio Luna is a hero that chose to undertake the journey

They are somehow preventing themselves from overcoming their unawareness and they are not making any move to remedy that problem. Next would
be the Scapegoat, and it is, in my opinion, Emilio Aguinaldo. After the death of Antonio Luna, the immediate suspect was the president himself, even
though he was in another place when the murder happened. And it is unfortunate that Aguinaldo is still blamed by society for the death of his comrade
to this day, because until now, historians are still debating about the real culprit behind the crime. Next, the Creatures of Nightmare, or the minions of
the Devil Figure, would be Pedro Janolino and the other men who contributed to the slaying of Antonio Luna. The movie also had its Woman Figures,
particularly the Earthmother and the Temptress. The Earthmother is DoГ±a Laureana Luna, Antonio Luna's mother. Her appearance in the film was
quite short but it was still very meaningful. She said consoling words to Luna when he needed it the most–it is very evident that even with his tough
and arrogant persona, he is vulnerable and still needs his mother's assurance. Now, the Temptress is Isabel, a woman that Luna was romantically
involved with. Isabel is a member of the Red Cross and we can see in the movie that she is independent and does not need the support of Luna, unlike
other women who need the constant presence of men in their lives. That is why I think she fits the archetype of the Temptress perfectly. Last but not
the least the Hero of the movie is General Antonio Luna. He has gone beyond the normal range of achievement and experience (Campbell). He has
done something phenomenal. And even though some may say that he is a clown because he did not accomplish his quest, I will still firmly state that
he is a true hero–he just did not get to finish his adventure because of his assassination at the hands of his own, treacherous

The Motives Behind Us Overseas Imperialism
1.What were the motivations behind US overseas imperialism? Numerous motivating factors contributed to US overseas imperialism, but the
fundamental underlying cause was the fact that powerful men within the US government, military and business strata craved power, expansion,
wealth, and most of all, world dominance. It began subtly, as prominent businessmen like Rockefeller and J. P. Morgan began to realize that US
consumership alone would not sufficiently sustain the growing industries, volume of production and produce generated within the US. In order to
achieve the expansion and exponential growth of wealth they aspired to, a larger market was needed; a market capable of absorbing the abundant
surplus. The solution, they believed, was expansion into foreign markets around the world. The realization, however, came with a stark reality: in
order to obtain access to overseas markets, the US would need to devise clever strategies to validate and facilitate these aims. So, while power–hungry
business moguls were busy conjuring up plans as to how to bring this about, government and military officials like Theodore Roosevelt, Senator
Henry Lodge, President McKinley and Captain A. T. Mahan sought to extend the political and military presence of US forces around the world. The
plan was to gain a foothold, and eventually be positioned to control leaders and policies of overseas nations. Naturally, it was a plan that would require
the careful construction of outwardly logical

In Webster's New Dictionary, history is defined as a study of past events; course of life or existence. Without history, we wouldn't know our cultures,
where we came from, and the major events that changed the world. This is true for many people, because some of them don't know their culture or
their families' history. People of color, especially many minorities who are born in America (second generation) tend to not learn their histories, for they
have to adapt to the American lifestyle which make them lose a part of their identity. Another reason why many second generations don't know their

Even though we lived in different counties, our home styles are the same. We both live under the rules of aFilipino home. For example, "we would
always respect our parents or elders by sickoleding them, obeying their wishes, and always cooking rice" (DeGuia). For the both of us, our homes

his father an engineer.
The reason why his parents have different jobs is that they immigrated in different years. DeGuia's parents came in 1969, a time when America had an

colonial period began and immigration to the States was pushed in many different aspects of everyday Filipino culture. Another reason for leaving the
Philippines was due to the economic problems many had in the Philippines. America was advertised as the "Land of Paradise" on posters all throughout
the Philippines, and many labor recruiters assured natives that money could be made quickly in the states.
The first batch of Filipino immigrants who ended up in San Francisco was relatively small and consisted mostly of students. Travelling from the
Philippines to the San Francisco was tough, as it was expensive to pay for and was a long distance from home. The trip from the Philippines to San
Francisco took nearly a month by ship, meaning their stay would be long term. Those brave enough to travel to America did so in hopes of living a
more prosperous life than they did in the Philippines.
Of the immigrants that arrived in San Francisco, a good number of them ended up relocating to states with more of a focus on agriculture, where they
were responsible for taking care of the fields. However, there were a number of those who preferred urban life that ended up staying in San Francisco.
For those that stayed in San Francisco, they were situated in apartments around and on Kearny Street. Larger rooms were provided for those starting

Capital was leaving the country at a rate of twelve million US dollars per day. The Central Bank of the Philippines was no longer able to make
payments on their twenty–six billion–dollar debt. When it was discovered that the Government and country had gone bankrupt the peso (Filipino

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Western Culture
ABSTRACT The Philippines is one of the most westernized countries in Asia, and western influence was easily accepted and adopted by Filipinos.
This can be seen in the Philippine culture until today. Westernization can have different advantages and disadvantages in terms of food, music and

one of the advantages is that teens still follow the Filipinos' way of greeting which is to bless and say "po" and "opo" when talking to elders. This

It is also popular practice to open all the doors and windows at the stroke of midnight to let in the good luck. Many Filipino families also read the

If you want to bring in more wealth next year, wear clothes with polka–dots or other circular designs. The roundness of the circles is meant to resemble

In the other hand, most of the Filipinos say that we can wear whatever dress we want the most important is we celebrate our year with new

Essay on Aloha and Mabuhay: A Look Into Filipino Hawai†i
Filipinos are the second largest ethnicity group in Hawai'i, right after White or Caucasian. The Filipino race and culture have become a very big
part of Hawai'i's diverse society. In the 20th century Filipino ancestors took the risk, a gamble taken by many around the world to travel 5,445 miles
from the Philippines to Hawai'i. Hawai'i's elite haole were in need of laborers in the rapidly growing sugar industry, because sugar was king. The
Filipinos were the last race group to arrive in Hawai'i, and the first sakadas arrived in 1906. It was a difficult decision for many people in the
Philippines to travel a great distance in order to experience Kasla Glorya Ti Hawaii . Although hopeful, many Filipinos faced challenges, obstacles, and

Belinda Aquino, a Filipino scholar writes, "As an American colony with a very large rural population, the Philippines promptly became the primary
source of cheap labor for the Hawai'i plantations." Many of the immigrants from the Philippines were single men, and those with a family usually left
them behind until paying for their travel was possible. These unique people of another country were taking a chance at a better life. In Hawai'i, they
would add to the already diverse mixture of culture and traditions. What made Filipinos risk leaving home was partly the false propaganda shown to
them of what Hawai'i was like.
Filipinos had chosen to leave their home and family behind in search of new beginnings, money, and a hope to support their loved ones. Money
however was the big idea that made any and all immigrants come to Hawai'i. Many country's were experiencing their own hardships as well which
made leaving home an opportunity to get away from the problems. In 1898 Hawai'i was illegally annexed to the United States just as the
Spanish–American War was being fought in the Philippines. Hawai'i then, was even more valuable because of its close proximity to the Philippines.
However, many times immigrants were given false idyllic notions of how plantation life would be. The opportunities were endless, wealth was
possible, and it was a paradise. Many chose to take the journey and live in a different

Barracks At The Security Police School At Lackland
It was a short drive over to the parking lot outside of building 7518. The two–story khaki– colored building resembled the barracks at the Security
Police School at Lackland. The building itself provided a sense of familiarity, which helped ease some of my anxiety and uncertainty. Sgt.
Billingsly escorted me into the Dorm Managers office where I presented my military orders to Staff Sargent Kingsley, the manager in charge of
maintaining order in the barracks. He was also charged with ensuring that the rules were followed with regards to maintenance and visitors. He had
dark brown hair, and by the looks of him, he spent hours in the gym lifting. He offered a friendly welcome and asked if the PI was my first duty
station. I said, "Sir,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had lots of questions and of course, my curiosity had been sparked since my talk with Gene. I got dressed and headed to the snack bar to find
Billingsly. There was a classic 1970's jukebox along the right wall and a pool table in the middle of the room. Aside from Billingsly, who was
talking to someone, the place appeared deserted. Billingsly introduced me to an Airman Tom Simpson from Huntington, West Virginia. Airman
Simpson was about twenty and was shorter than me with a little more bulk. Despite the common misconception that the men of West Virginia were
isolated rough and rugged mountain boys, Simpson was charismatic and outgoing. Billingsly also introduced me to the snack bar attendant and
told her it is my first day on the island. She greeted me with a warm smile and welcomed me to the PI. Billingsly and Simpson work together on
day flight so Billingsly asked Simpson if he wanted to go on my base tour followed by a downtown excursion. Simpson perked up as soon as he
heard downtown and almost knocked us down heading for the door. As we left the barracks parking lot, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size and
lack of perimeter fence to keep unauthorized personnel from entering the base. That explained the considerable need for the 3rd Security Police
Group. Billingsly explained that the perimeter of the base totaled approximately 27 miles, but only about 10 miles of the perimeter fence line was still
intact. Over the years, it collapsed

The Republic of the Philippines suffers from widespread...
The Republic of the Philippines suffers from widespread corruption (Jurado, 2010). This involves different forms of dishonesty such as graft, bribery,
embezzlement, backdoor deals, and patronage. According to Iskyan (2013), even though the current Aquino Administration continues to exert effort in
dealing with this, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, corruption and inefficient budgetary procedures are still present. Based on the report of
the US Department of State Investment Climate Statement (2013), corruption exists in almost all levels of the government, especially among
high–level civil servants. As an effect, companies generally have little confidence in the Philippine government. Its people are also hesitant to pay their

Although it is true that justice must be served, it is always better to prevent this unfortunate occurrences even before they begin. Prevention will
always be better than the cure. Improvising a solution to address this issue is quite challenging. By applying the principles of Week Three (3) Lecture
in lessening the probability of cheating, some problems in our government may be answered. In order to shrink the fudge factor, people needs to think
of morality. A simple statement placed on top of every bill passed in congress saying "As a matter of personal honor and dignity, beyond selfish
interest, and for the benefit of the common good, all statements below are were crafted without bias and prejudice...." may help legislators to lessen
their tendency to craft laws vulnerable to cheating. Another subject that needs attention is the tax payment of the citizens. If requiring a signature on
the beginning of the tax report of every citizen is too much to ask. Maybe, a checklist with statements such as, "I shall include all my assets, liabilities
and net worth in filling this report", "I shall honestly fill our all necessary information for the common good of the Filipino people", requiring them to
check this boxes before filing out the report sheet may somehow prevent the people from writing false amounts. Curing this spreading illness in the

The Advertising Of Love Teams In The Philippines
The advertising of love teams in the Philippines has slowly been changing the Filipino's colonial mentality mindset because it allows Filipinos to
emulate local celebrities instead of foreign ones. Local and global companies are capitalizing on this, making use of the love team's fame in order to
advertise their products. For global companies, they use glocalization in order to make their product seem more localized to attract Filipinos. This is
effective because Filipinos become attracted to love teams because they project on to these love teams the traits they find important in themselves and
their surroundings. However, this type of projection can also be negative because of how celebrities in love teams lose their right to privacy and are
made to live up to extremely high expectations. While it is good that Filipinos are beginning to emulate local celebrities over foreign ones, love teams
are not necessarily a good thing for the local industry. This is because international and multinational companies are using them in order to advertise
their products in a way that attracts those with a more local mindset. It has come to the point that people often can no longer differentiate what is local
and what is foreign. It also leads to the effect of colonial mentality lessening but the effect of this staying the same. Keywords: Love Teams, Colonial

Food In The Filipino Culture
Food is an essential form of socialization in the Filipino culture and social gatherings do not take place without food. "Food and meal patterns
emphasize generosity, hospitality, and thoughtfulness, which support group cohesiveness." Pg. 239. Extending an invite to a gathering or even
sharing one's food is considered a sign of good upbringing and can be used to show appreciation and caring, to welcome others, celebrate
accomplishments, and even be used to offer support in times of crisis. Their foods consist of influence from Spanish, Chinese, and American cuisine
and are usually sautГ©ed or fried and rice is served with every meal. The rice is typically steamed but can also be fried and eaten in a desert form.
Due to intolerance for dairy products, only babies or young children consume milk. Food is not just used for social gatherings but also for medicinal
benefits, such as colds, upset stomach, urinary tract infections, sore throats, and aids in promoting digestion.
The only acceptable method of contraception is natural planning methods. Abortion is considered a big no, as it goes against their catholic religion and
is considered a sin. Most methods of birth control are not excepted however, recent immigrants seem to be more open to alternative methods of birth
control. Pregnancy is viewed as a blessing and the child–bearing woman should be catered to during the time of pregnancy. Many Filipino women

How Did The Indio Are Innately Indolent
1.Did Rizal agree with the typical European accusation that the Indios are indeed innately indolent or lazy?
Personally, I believe that this essay poses two arguments about the indolence of the Filipinos, Rizal, in the beginning of his essay alleged that Indios
are indolent, but only in the sense of little love for work or lack of energy, and not indolence as in the context of laziness. With this belief, he even
attributed to climate the indolence of the natives. However, as I read through the essay, there were lines which I believe presents the idea that the natives
were not indolent. According to the line, certain unsubdued tribes have been cultivating beautiful fields and working energetically. In addition to that,
it also points out the idea that in spite of the climate and the few needs that natives have during that time, since if we compare their needs with the
needs of the modern times we have more needs and sometimes complicated wants than before, were not indolent. Thus, I think that Rizal ... Show more

Due to the lack of training and education of the natives, they were limited to aim for a better life and not to excel in their own fields nor to do other
jobs aside from farming, fishing, etc. Without independence to decide on their own, they are being enslaved by their own inhibitions and fears, which
were then taken advantage by those who have greater power.
Thus, education plays a very vital role in every aspect of the life of an Indio. Because of the lack of knowledge and strong faith and hope in
miracles, most of our Indios were becoming dependent on the wonderful things of the Church. They pray for good faith, and let God do what is best
for them and provide their needs. If only natives were educated about how life should be and how they should do. Once educated, people would not

The Importance Of Intercultural Dialogue In Canada
Multi–culturalism pervades Canada as a nation, a predominately immigrant driven and sustained country that seems at times to indicate overtly and in
part covert inferences from those who slip through the cycle of immigration without the opportunity of engaging and by extension impacting the
conversation on intercultural dialogue in Canada. One can cite that majority of Canada's population is comprised of diverse ethnic and cultural
background of immigrants yet the term "visible minority" has been harnessed to dichotomize its immigrant community, bit of oxymoron possibly.
Luzviminda, an extremely creative expression of dialogue between Canada and the various ethnicities that seek to improve or enrich there lives and
those of there love ones. Its epitomizes another avenue of communicative osmosis of cultures that's enhances and penetrates the social, political and
cultural platform from which they initiate and exchange dialogue. I cannot negate the that fact, while Canada frames the space for such migration to be
possible for immigrant population, it goes without say that the benefit is dual in nature. Canada's socio– economic paradigm is by virtue very much at
a perpetual advantage as a result of its expeditious growth from the immigrant community. Luzvinminda, stands as a representation of this intercultural
dialogue. Dr. Patrick Alcedo, Associate Professor of the Department of Dance at York University states that, " A portmanteau , 'Luzvinminda "

Women, Islamic, And Saudi Arabian Women
The topic that stood out to me the most would be the impact of ethnicity amongst women. It is amazing how much being a woman and being part of a
certain ethnicity can have such an impact on a woman's life. It is already hard enough for woman to been seen as equal, just imagine what it is like
being a woman of a particular ethnicity. The two articles that we discussed in class are about Filipino, Islamic, and Saudi Arabian women. Filipino,
Islamic, and Saudi Arabian women share some things in common when it comes to their everyday lives and cultures. Within thePhilippine culture, men

However, America has started to not think about that stereotype as much, whereas the Philippine people have not budged on thinking any
differently. Another thing that Filipina woman go through is not having the privileges like other boys, especially their brothers. The author states,
"parents seldom allowed their daughters to date, to stay out late, to spend the night at a friend's house, or to take an out of town trip" (Espiritu, p.
16). Therefore, the Filipino girls do not get to experience what it is like to be a teenager. The girls could experience not being able to be social
because of their parents keeping them so distanced from the real world. This could damage them when they become adults. Another thing that stood
out was the same parents that are stopping their daughter from doing all these things, are not stopping their son, who could be even younger than the
daughter. This makes absolutely no sense because why would someone let a younger child do something over the older child? A part of the article
that stood out to me was "although many parents discourage or forbid dating for daughter, they still fully expect them to fulfill their traditional roles
as women: to marry and have children" (Espiritu, p. 17). This quote shows that Filipino woman do not have choices in life. It is like the parents are
being hypocrites because they are telling them not to do one thing but then expect them to have a family. How are they supposed to both when they

The Importance Of Filipino Parents And Filipinos
Filipinos like to be addressed formally with their titles such as Attorney, Doctor, Professor, Director, etc. to convey respect for authority, status or
position (Purnell, 2013). Parents and elders are expected to be addressed in a respectful way meaning they should never be addressed on a first
name basis (Purnell, 2013). The use of the word "po" or "ho" are usually used when ending sentences to show a sign of respect (GAC, 2017). In a
traditional Filipino family, the head of the family and main provider is usually the father (Purnell, 2013). The mother is the one who is responsible
for household needs and the emotional growth and values that the children adhere too (Purnell, 2013). In the child's eyes, their mothers are soft and
calm, while their father is usually seen as the strong and the most notorious figure in the family (Purnell, 2013). Filipino parents have a duty of
providing material and educational needs of their children. Therefore, children, are anticipated to obey and respect their parents. Children are also
required to provide care for their parents when they grow old. Older children, until they marry and have families of their own, are expected to help
younger siblings with school, and to assist them in getting a job after graduation (Purnell, 2013). Lifestyles tend to differ with those that are
Americanized versus those that have been raised according to the traditional Filipino culture. For example, divorce is more commonly seen in America,

Philippines, but it's not found solely in that part of the country, but in other islands as well, such as Negros."(The Rainbow Tree of Bago City) This

tribal attributes that the Philippines has. Thus, before I begin on my journey, I would have to learn and relearn some of the languages including, but not
limited to, "Tagalog, Ilocano, and Bisaya..."(Major Languages of the Philippines) so that I may be able to communicate on my own without the need
for an interpreter, to be somewhat self sufficient. Another barrier will be the weather, for the Philippines tends to have more humidity and rain than

The Importance Of Food Security In The Philippines
"About 7 million Filipinos in 2015 have resorted to open defecation–85% of which are from rural areas without toilet facilities. This poses a threat to
the safety of food and quality of drinking water" (WHO, 2016). Although there is a valuable abundance of life and resources, the Philippines is
paradoxically afflicted with various complications and barriers to fully access and sustainably use the natural resources available. The lives of Filipinos
are thus categorized by an adversity that is persistent throughout the world even with recent progressive developments. "Despite being one of the fastest
growing economies in Southeast Asia in recent years, declines in poverty were modest, leaving marginalized groups such as women, children and the
elderly vulnerable to hunger and poverty. This rapid economic growth, however, does not necessarily translate to better conditions when combined with
other factors such as nutrition and food security" (WFP, 2016). The country is managing to the best of its abilities to concentrate on the underlying
issues threatening food security. Of those issues, the most encompassing is the lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation, which debilitates a
population's ability to survive, actively work, and produce food. In attempt to address this issue, strict government enforcement of standards,
non–governmental intervention with affordable technology or means of sanitation, and education is necessary for improving the lives Filipinos.

I will expand later on this paper about the arenas of constraint that the author wrote about for migrant workers in the conclusion of the first chapter, as
it is a topic that needs to be unpacked greatly.
The second chapter discussed the international division of reproductive labour and the reasons why women may choose to become migrant workers.
Often times the common answer of why these Filipina women made the decision to enter the reproductive labour force is one based on both economic
and gender inequality reasoning. Gender is now seen as the hidden cause of migration, where women are taking on the role of the income provider and
it is a strategy that can "relieve women of their unequal division of labour with men in the family." (ParreГ±as, 2015 – pg. 32) Through the three tier
system there is honestly no gender–egalitarian way that the division occurs, because their own responsibilities are given to those who are less
privileged for less benefits.
ParreГ±as introduces the dynamic of postmodern familial struggles that inevitably come with being a migrant worker. She introduces briefly the 3 types
of transitional families, where members of said family are located in two different locations. (ParreГ±as, 2015) When one parent is abroad, the father
is normally left behind to care for the children and household but those tasks are often taken up by other female

Pros And Cons In The Philippines

  • 1. Pros And Cons In The Philippines I disagree with this statement, because I believe that no matter how bad the international reputation of a country can be, it can still somehow be remedied through different means. It is false to assume that no amount of PR can help, because it truly can. It is true that crime, corruption, cultural immaturity, and disunity are present in the Philippines. It does not help that the news and media outlets mostly put out negative news and content. However, this should not be the main image that is being portrayed internationally. Although it is not easy to change the Philippines' international image, it is not impossible because of PR. PR is really tailored to fit specific situations, and one of them is to invite people to visit a country. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good PR message must have a catch phrase that is concise yet encompasses the scope of what needs to be said. It must also be easy to remember, so the publics would retain the message easily. A good PR message, especially in this case, must be easy to execute and integrate into culture. The key problem here is that the bad qualities of the Philippines that are most often shown through international news outlets might drive foreigners away. Therefore, the PR message should focus on the integration of the good characteristics that the Philippines can offer. There should be a focus on the beautiful beaches or other places in nature that can only be found in the Philippines. It should focus on how warm and welcoming the Filipino people are. It should focus on how conducive it is for international clients to invest in properties or start up businesses in the Philippines. A good PR message can take away the focus of the foreigners from the bad issues that are prevalent in our country. Instead, it provides a certain reality for them that the Philippines are an amazing place to visit or invest in. Therefore, the PR message must contain interesting facts about the Philippines that would overshadow its bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Journey In The Philippines : My Journey Through The... Journey Through the Phillipines I have always been interested in my heritage, thus I do my best to indulge myself in the culture of the Philippines. As a result, my pilgrimage will take place in the Philippines, but not just to go and see the sights and enjoy the food, but to find a rainbow Eucalyptus tree, "The tree is the only Eucalyptus species found naturally in the northern hemisphere. And yes, it's also native in the Philippines, but it's not found solely in that part of the country, but in other islands as well, such as Negros."(The Rainbow Tree of Bago City) This journey will test my knowledge of the botany and wildlife in the Philippines, without ever being there myself. With the hope of obtaining knowledge and experiences that my ancestor may have endured that will possibly have a life lasting effect on me. Within the Philippines, multiple languages are spoken, due to the very tribal attributes that the Philippines has. Thus, before I begin on my journey, I would have to learn and relearn some of the languages including, but not limited to, "Tagalog, Ilocano, and Bisaya..."(Major Languages of the Philippines) so that I may be able to communicate on my own without the need for an interpreter, to be somewhat self sufficient. Another barrier will be the weather, for the Philippines tends to have more humidity and rain than Texas, thus may cause my body to take time to adapt to the climate, since there is also a slight decrease in the average elevation between the Philippine and Texas. Also, transportation will be an issue when I am hopping from island to island, for the Philippines is a chain of dormant and inactive volcanic Islands. For the four main forms of transportation I will most likely use while I am in the Philippines will be a Jeepney, which is a twin–benched jitney bus, seating about a dozen passengers, "As American troops began to leave the Philippines at the end of World War II, hundreds of surplus jeeps were sold or given to local Filipinos. Locals stripped down the jeeps to accommodate several passengers, added metal roofs for shade, and decorated the vehicles with vibrant colors and bright chrome hood ornaments" (History of the Philippine Jeepney ) A second form of transportation ... • 3. Positive Influence Of The Philippines The philippines is a country located in Southeast Asia in the Western Pacific made up of 7,107 islands. "The entire landmass of the Philippines is made up islands, making it the second–largest archipelago in the world ("Huffington Post"). Manila the capital city of the Philippines is ranked as number one with the highest population density in the world. With a growth rate of 2 percent every year it is also known as one of the fastest growing countries. The philippines and the United States have had what is known as a special relationship throughout the last few decades. In fact a research done by Research Center Global Attitudes Project says that Filipinos have a 85% positive view of Americans and America. The same Philippine respondents have also claimed that America has had a great deal of positive influence in their country. 1. Krizel, a co–worker/friend, was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to the United States when she turned 22 years old with her father. Krizel lived a very laborious and difficult life as a kid all the way to her early teens, living in a two bedroom apartment for a family of six; it could become crowded sometimes. "The Philippines teaches you to work at an early age" Krizel said, you would have to go to the nearest lake every morning so that you may have water to bathe yourself that day, carrying 4–5 buckets of water to the house and back was very tiring. She would have to walk about 6 to 7 miles everyday to go to the nearest school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Filipinos Nowadays, lots of Filipino people choose to work abroad. Some are in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, and other foreign countries. But the question is, why they choose to work abroad than staying in their own country? There are 11 main reasons why several Filipinos choose to work abroad, these 11 reasons was made by Fritz Natividad on November 19, 2012. Other sources like books, magazines, newspapers and lots of sites in the internet have different numbers of reason. Due to lots of reasons, only 4 reasons are common. This are Salary, Pressure from family and peer influence, Self–interest and lastly only opportunity to travel and experience abroad. In addition, working abroad has its advantages and disadvantages. Thesis statement Filipino workers endure being away from their families most of the time because they need to work abroad than to work locally and see their families struggling to a severe economic burden. Body The main purpose why Filipinos work abroad is to have a higher salary income because the salary of the workers even if graduated from very prestigious school has a low bracket compared when you are working abroad.... Well, working abroad seems to be the only way out especially when you are not coming from a wealthy family, having severe economic burden. And most of your friends have already flown to work abroad and their having a good time; and because of that you are enticed to follow them and will work abroad, idea taken from Fritz Natividad. Aside from it, it can be your ambition or self–interest since childhood to travel from the other country. A dream you have ever wanted. It may not seems to be a very good reason but still Fritz Natividad counted it. Is that to work abroad is their only opportunity to travel and experience life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Implications of Taking Care of a Filipino Patient Herrera, Lei Dianne A. Uinversity of the Philippines – Manila College of Nursing Batch 2016 Implications of Taking Care of a Filipino Patient Communication and language play a vital role in establishing good connection between patients and their respective health care providers such as nurses. Mejico (2004) concluded that, "it is in their own mother tongue that a person can truly express his innermost sentiments, ideas, perceptions, and attitudes." Relating it to class discussions, most Filipino students find it easier to learn and understand if the teacher considers a balanced use of the English language and the native language in explaining the lecture; the same is true for a patient–and–nurse relationship. It will be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having a background of the patients' cultural orientation is very important as a nurse because interpreting and analyzing behavior is not an easy task if one does not have any idea of the patient's socio–cultural influences. Behavior is influenced by innate and outside forces thereby making the patients' observable behavior not enough to conclude right away. One also has to be aware of the innate side. Filipino nurses and Filipino patients as well possess some similarities in their psychological backgrounds which help nurses to relate the patients' behavior to her experiences. Filipinos in general have similarities in some patterns of behavior referring to, and as explained by the Filipino Psychology. The study of Filipino psychology conducted by Mejico (2004) concludes that Filipino personality is a blend of Western influence in external aspects like aesthetic tastes and preferences, and Asian influence which accounts for the ultimate core of his character. • 6. Reflection Paper About Field Trip Field Trip Reflection Paper In the course of our field trip last March 5 to the provinces of Bataan and Laguna, one question had come up to me as I marvel at the various sites in our trip. What is really our Filipino culture and, more importantly, how do we preserve it in the rapidly changing times of our modern world? With the help of this reflection paper, I hope to find the answer and enlighten myself with the identity of my country– and in that effect – of myself as a Filipino too. Starting out with a tour of the many buildings erected in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan, I noticed that some of the structures we were introduced to weren't what they were intended to be. Not exactly a pure restoration, per se. In fact, all of the buildings there, mostly houses, aren't just remade for the sole purpose of residing there. They are monuments, or even museums, left behind as mementos for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Up next on our itinerary was The Philippine Refugee Processing Center (PRPC) in Morong, Bataan. I, for one, was surprised to find such a camp had existed in our country and I was excited to learn how Filipinos were so ready to help and accept those in need – showing our bayanihan spirit even to foreigners to our country. It all started with a boat, constructed with whatever desperate hand could find as Vietnamese men and women struggled to flee from their war–torn land. A miracle saved them as their both managed to withstand strong waves and stormy seas before being rescued by their Filipino neighbours. However, their recovery didn't stop there as their refugee camp was transformed into an ideal community, where they were once more built up as dignified people before starting a new and transformed life at a better ... • 7. Three Principles Of Distributive Justice People see distributive justice through different views. The distribution of goods (or attention, praise, etc.) is analyzed in different ways by different people. There are three principles of distributive justice, these principles are equity, equality and need. Equity pertains to people getting goods or rewards in direct relation to the work they put in or what is perceived to be of greater importance. For example, a star player in the pro–league may deserve higher pay then his/her teammate who warms the bench. Though the two earn different amounts of salary, there is distributive justice (equity) in that they are being fairly paid in correspondence to their contributions to the team. Equality on the other hand, means equal rewards for everyone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be said that altruism is the opposite of selfishness. One who is altruistic is concerned with the welfare of others without expectations of anything in return. ABS–CBN's slogan: In the Service of the Filipino Worldwide comes off as very altruistic. I mean, they are for the service of all Filipinos with no intention of getting anything in return right? Maybe. Maybe not. This is not to say that ABS CBN does not actually care for the Filipino people. As with many psychological theories and concepts, the psychology of helping is complex and multi–faceted. For one, there are different motivations to why people help. Let us discuss these in relation to ABS CBN's slogan. Apart from altruism, there are three other kinds of motivations. Collectivism in regard to helping is serving the community to benefit a certain group or collective of people. The group can range from 2 people to 2 billion. When one is part of a group, there is a tendency to not only want to help and better your group, there is a tendency to feel indebted to help simply because you are part of the group. Either way it is the motivation to help because of being part of particular collection of people. ABS CBN can easily have collectivism as its motive, wanting to enhance and empower the Filipino people and society of which they belong to as a corporation. Their slogan can be seen as valuing the welfare of the Filipino people, a collective ABS CBN most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Filipino People Building the Filipino people involves everyone. Our leaders cannot do it for us. We must look at ourselves, both objectively and understandingly, as we try to remove our weaknesses and develop our strengths. To be better, understanding ourselves is the first step. Once we have learned to appreciate and value our being Filipinos, building our nation, achieving goals of peace and social justice will come next. Filipinos have a very strong and resilient character. This was developed by the hardships and challenges we have faced throughout our history. • 9. Reflection Of Heneral Luna Movie The movie entitled "Heneral Luna" that I attended on October 5, 2015 (Monday) started at 7:30pm in the D.L. Umali Auditorium of U.P. Los BaГ±os. First of all, I have to admit that history is not really one of the subjects I'm good at. That is why the movie really made me question my knowledge about our nation. I don't know much about Antonio Luna yet what I recall most from him was the way that he was Juan Luna's more youthful sibling and that he was a general who battled amid the Philippine–American War. Despite the fact that I was constantly mindful to my history instructors' addresses in both basic and secondary school, I scarcely recall our class examining in subtle elements Antonio Luna's life and additionally his appalling passing. The Philippines is located directly above Indonesia and is below Taiwan. It is home to over one hundred and five million people. The Philippines is actually considered an archipelago, and is the second largest one in the world. The landscape is beautiful that is made up of many islands, different landmarks and history. The capital of the Philippines is Manila, which has the highest populated density in the world. The Philippines is a very diverse island because when it was being established the people that came there were mostly immigrants and migrated there from other lands. They were mainly descents of Chinese, but they also have descents of Spanish and American. They had very little contact with surrounding countries. Since, the population was made up of immigrants the Philippines was passed around by different rulers. At one point, the Philippines was ruled by the Spanish and that's why most Filipinos have Spanish names because they required them to. The Philippines gets its name from the King of Spain, Philip II, who was one of the rulers of the Philippines. Overall, Spain had a lot of influence over the history of the Philippines.... The film exhibited Luna's remarkable military prowess and it also revealed that his fight was not only against the foreign invaders but also with the treacherous Filipinos within their ranks and even within the Philippine Revolutionary Government. Next would be the Scapegoat, and it is, in my opinion, Emilio Aguinaldo. After the death of Antonio Luna, the immediate suspect was the president himself, even though he was in another place when the murder happened. And it is unfortunate that Aguinaldo is still blamed by society for the death of his comrade to this day, because until now, historians are still debating about the real culprit behind the crime. Next, the Creatures of Nightmare, or the minions of the Devil Figure, would be Pedro Janolino and the other men who contributed to the slaying of Antonio Luna. The movie also had its Woman Figures, particularly the Earthmother and the Temptress. The Earthmother is DoГ±a Laureana Luna, Antonio Luna's mother. Her appearance in the film was quite short but it was still very meaningful. She said consoling words to Luna when he needed it the most–it is very evident that even with his tough and arrogant persona, he is vulnerable and still needs his mother's assurance. Now, the Temptress is Isabel, a woman that Luna was romantically involved with. Isabel is a member of the Red Cross and we can see in the movie that she is independent and does not need the support of Luna, unlike other women who need the constant presence of men in their lives. That is why I think she fits the archetype of the Temptress perfectly. Last but not the least the Hero of the movie is General Antonio Luna. He has gone beyond the normal range of achievement and experience (Campbell). He has done something phenomenal. And even though some may say that he is a clown because he did not accomplish his quest, I will still firmly state that he is a true hero–he just did not get to finish his adventure because of his assassination at the hands of his own, treacherous ... • 13. The Motives Behind Us Overseas Imperialism 1.What were the motivations behind US overseas imperialism? Numerous motivating factors contributed to US overseas imperialism, but the fundamental underlying cause was the fact that powerful men within the US government, military and business strata craved power, expansion, wealth, and most of all, world dominance. It began subtly, as prominent businessmen like Rockefeller and J. P. Morgan began to realize that US consumership alone would not sufficiently sustain the growing industries, volume of production and produce generated within the US. In order to achieve the expansion and exponential growth of wealth they aspired to, a larger market was needed; a market capable of absorbing the abundant surplus. The solution, they believed, was expansion into foreign markets around the world. The realization, however, came with a stark reality: in order to obtain access to overseas markets, the US would need to devise clever strategies to validate and facilitate these aims. So, while power–hungry business moguls were busy conjuring up plans as to how to bring this about, government and military officials like Theodore Roosevelt, Senator Henry Lodge, President McKinley and Captain A. T. Mahan sought to extend the political and military presence of US forces around the world. The plan was to gain a foothold, and eventually be positioned to control leaders and policies of overseas nations. Naturally, it was a plan that would require the careful construction of outwardly logical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am a Filipino Through the Eyes of an American Citizen In Webster's New Dictionary, history is defined as a study of past events; course of life or existence. Without history, we wouldn't know our cultures, where we came from, and the major events that changed the world. This is true for many people, because some of them don't know their culture or their families' history. People of color, especially many minorities who are born in America (second generation) tend to not learn their histories, for they have to adapt to the American lifestyle which make them lose a part of their identity. • 23. The Advertising Of Love Teams In The Philippines The advertising of love teams in the Philippines has slowly been changing the Filipino's colonial mentality mindset because it allows Filipinos to emulate local celebrities instead of foreign ones. Local and global companies are capitalizing on this, making use of the love team's fame in order to advertise their products. For global companies, they use glocalization in order to make their product seem more localized to attract Filipinos. This is effective because Filipinos become attracted to love teams because they project on to these love teams the traits they find important in themselves and their surroundings. However, this type of projection can also be negative because of how celebrities in love teams lose their right to privacy and are made to live up to extremely high expectations. While it is good that Filipinos are beginning to emulate local celebrities over foreign ones, love teams are not necessarily a good thing for the local industry. This is because international and multinational companies are using them in order to advertise their products in a way that attracts those with a more local mindset. It has come to the point that people often can no longer differentiate what is local and what is foreign. Personally, I believe that this essay poses two arguments about the indolence of the Filipinos, Rizal, in the beginning of his essay alleged that Indios are indolent, but only in the sense of little love for work or lack of energy, and not indolence as in the context of laziness. With this belief, he even attributed to climate the indolence of the natives. However, as I read through the essay, there were lines which I believe presents the idea that the natives were not indolent. According to the line, certain unsubdued tribes have been cultivating beautiful fields and working energetically. In addition to that, it also points out the idea that in spite of the climate and the few needs that natives have during that time, since if we compare their needs with the needs of the modern times we have more needs and sometimes complicated wants than before, were not indolent. As well as push me out of my introverted self, being forced to communicate with random people, to achieve my goal. Another barrier will be the weather, for the Philippines tends to have more humidity and rain than Texas, thus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Importance Of Food Security In The Philippines "About 7 million Filipinos in 2015 have resorted to open defecation–85% of which are from rural areas without toilet facilities. This poses a threat to the safety of food and quality of drinking water" (WHO, 2016). Although there is a valuable abundance of life and resources, the Philippines is paradoxically afflicted with various complications and barriers to fully access and sustainably use the natural resources available. The lives of Filipinos are thus categorized by an adversity that is persistent throughout the world even with recent progressive developments. "Despite being one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia in recent years, declines in poverty were modest, leaving marginalized groups such as women, children and the elderly vulnerable to hunger and poverty. This rapid economic growth, however, does not necessarily translate to better conditions when combined with other factors such as nutrition and food security" (WFP, 2016). The country is managing to the best of its abilities to concentrate on the underlying issues threatening food security. Of those issues, the most encompassing is the lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation, which debilitates a population's ability to survive, actively work, and produce food. In attempt to address this issue, strict government enforcement of standards, non–governmental intervention with affordable technology or means of sanitation, and education is necessary for improving the lives Filipinos. ... • 36. In The Second Edition Of Servants Of Globalization: Migration In the Second Edition of Servants of Globalization: Migration and Domestic Work, Rhacel ParreГ±as examines all of the challenging aspects of the lives of migrant Filipino domestic workers. Throughout the interviews that are included in this novel, the author was able to analyze different cases filled with personal struggle and familial support using the perspectives of many determined women across the diaspora, mainly focusing on those to travel to work in Western Countries. In this paper, I will briefly summarize the first three chapters, bringing to light the most important aspects the ParreГ±as included. I will expand later on this paper about the arenas of constraint that the author wrote about for migrant workers in the conclusion of the first chapter, as it is a topic that needs to be unpacked greatly. The second chapter discussed the international division of reproductive labour and the reasons why women may choose to become migrant workers. Often times the common answer of why these Filipina women made the decision to enter the reproductive labour force is one based on both economic and gender inequality reasoning. Gender is now seen as the hidden cause of migration, where women are taking on the role of the income provider and it is a strategy that can "relieve women of their unequal division of labour with men in the family." (ParreГ±as, 2015 – pg. 32) Through the three tier system there is honestly no gender–egalitarian way that the division occurs, because their own responsibilities are given to those who are less privileged for less benefits. ParreГ±as introduces the dynamic of postmodern familial struggles that inevitably come with being a migrant worker. She introduces briefly the 3 types of transitional families, where members of said family are located in two different locations. (ParreГ±as, 2015) When one parent is abroad, the father is normally left behind to care for the children and household but those tasks are often taken up by other female ...
