Product Development Project
The following interim report is an overview of the work that I have done during my first work term
(4 months) at Xxx. This report will also go in to detail and explain the progress that has been made
up to date and my expectations for the remainder of my upcoming work terms. This report will not
show any information that Xxx regards as sensitive. This report is for the ELEC 3999A Fall 2017
Co–op course at Carleton University. Xxx is a multinational networking and telecommunications
company with its headquarters in Kista, Stockholm in Sweden. The company provide
telecommunications equipment and software to telecommunication operators. My job is to help

After the sprint period is finished there will be a retrospective to review what went well, what
should be changed and how to improve the next sprint. The cycle then repeats for the next sprint but
for the next sprint the team will try to implement actions taken from the retrospective in the previous
sprint. Starting a ticket requires reading over the ticket on Redmine to identify the problem and then
going into the repository in the VM and try to fix the problem. Python is the primary programming
language that is used when writing software code into the repository. Reading and understanding the
code that is already written into the repository required to figuring out how to either fix a ticket or
implement a feature into the repository. After applying the fix or update to the repository, the code is
tested to check that it passes all test cases that have been written for the software. If the code passes
the test cases, then it is pushed onto Gerrit using Git. Gerrit is a web–based tool to allow software
developers to code review each other's code. Gerrit by default will run Jenkins which is an open
source automation server that will run test cases for the code that gets submitted onto Gerrit. When
the uploaded code passes all the tests in Jenkins it will be ready for code review by another team
member. If my team members give the

New Product Development Process At Onity
New Product Development Process at Onity Background Onity, one of the pioneers of electronic
door lock systems formerly known as TESA Entry Systems was founded in 1941. Onity is a part of
United Technologies Corp.'s (UTC, NYSE:UTX) Building & Industrial Systems division. Onity has
set the standards for electronic door locking systems with installations of more than 4 million
throughout the world and was second to none in the Hospitality, Corporate, Education, Government
and Marine markets since 1984. With the flagship products such as Advance RFID, Advance, HT24,
HT28, Front Desk Systems, etc., Onity had its electronic locking systems installed on 22,000
properties in 115 countries. However, fierce competitive products launched by the rivals like Salto
and Ingersoll Rand had forced Onity to dive into the market for a narrow styling locking system.
The sleek designed locks from Salto in particular were eating into the luxury hotels' market of Onity.
To keep up with its number one position in the industry, Onity management decided to develop a
narrow style lock. However, they failed to follow best practices in the industry, which ultimately led
them to stop a very ambitious product development. Onity had the greatest industrial technological
advantage in the market, yet in the chaos of a very iterative process of design and validation, Onity
lost the battle. The various process involved in the New Product Development (NPD) of any
mechanical product will be covered in

While some of these differences are the result of legitimate differences in their business strategy,
business environment, organization, and the nature of their products, a frequent problem is the lack
of a common framework of the best practices of product development. With extensive investment of
time, an organization could develop the broad, internal expertise necessary to produce an effective
improvement plan for product development. During the entire process from conceptualizing to the
launch of new product;the activities of the production and marketing functions are as important as
those of product development/design function. Many of these activities are interdependent and the
new product design must fit in not only with the production and marketing functions of the company
but also with a company's marketing & operations strategies and the existing systems & policies. If a
new design warrants change in these strategies or policies or systems , it needs the wholehearted
concurrence of production & marketing functions.
NEED FOR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
In today's competitive world, companies must aggressively improve the way that they develop
products. While the concepts of NPD are simple, the implementation of these practices and the
process of changing a company 's culture is challenging. Success can be achieved with a well–
planned and managed effort. Management must understand not only the

Marketing Development Of New Product Development
INTRODUCTION NPD IS IMPORTANT Built on the rapid growth of globalization, more and
more competitors are emerging in the market. In order to keep pace with the change of environment,
new product development (NPD) has been identified as one of the most important activities of
business enterprises for a long time. (Lee & Souder, 2010; Abdul &Abd, 2014) From the perspective
of companies, product development is an essential element to accelerate the economy increased. It
also a key factor to obtain and expand the market shares. (Chandra. & Neelankavil, 2008; Elliot, &
Nakata, 2013)The majority of managers considered that new product development is an imperative
point to creative competitive advantages, maintain the existing customers and fascinate new
customers. Different markets can bring much more profits to companies. (Yeh, T.et al, 2014) The
success factors of new product development practice are very complex, including the proficiency of
technology and markets (Hooyer et al, 2010) such innovative product development proficiency lead
companies new product to be successful. The proficiency of technology skills is linked to product
design and test. They also concern about the creativity, which can contribute to launch the new
product is exceeded all the competitors. Proficiency of markets are consists of market analysis,
market activities and customer demand. (Lee, K. &Wong, 2010; Li&Huang, 2012;) The link of the

conditioning (HVAC) applications, represented the most ambitious project in the division's history,
and the product's development reflected many of the changes the division had experienced in recent
years. For three people in particular, Mod IV also typified the challenges of working amid new

Product Development and the Controls Business In the old system of product development, the
product passed through each functional area in a sequence of discrete steps: marketers conceived of
a product idea and passed it along to design engineers, who would design the product and pass the
design to process engineers; process engineers determined how to make the product and then
dropped the plans into the laps of the manufacturing engineers and the plants. At each stage in the
sequence, people encountered problems created by work done at earlier stages. Process engineers,
for example, would discover they could not make what the design engineers had crafted. Product
development thus became a game of "tossing the bear over the wall." When you completed your
particular piece of the project, you tossed it over the wall to the next group, not caring what took
place on 1. A widely–cited economic model developed by McKinsey and Company "calculates that
going 50% over budget during development to get a product out on time reduces . . . profits by only
4%. But staying on budget and getting to market six months late reduces profits by a third." (David
Woodruff and Stephen Phillips, "A Smarter Way to Manufacture," Business Week, April 30, 1990, p.

Brand Building:
Branding often consists of a brand name, logo and slogan. Businesses would try their best in order
to ensure the brand is recognisable in the market through advertisements. Businesses will trade
market the brand so competitors cannot copy the same brand. Branding is a powerful tool when
trying to sell products as it can help achieve marketing objectives such as becoming market leaders
and it can raise customer's awareness as well. In some instances the branding means, only certain
colours and shapes is used and in other instances, it is more flexible. It takes time, money and effort
to build a brand and to keep its position at the top in the market.
Apple:
This business has given attractive image and unique name to its products as it can influence on the
public as if the brand is sophisticated and professional then it can sort of brainwash and influence on

This step in the new–product process has been added by many companies recently to provide a
needed focus for ideas and concepts developed in later stages.
Objectives of the stage
Identify Markets and Strategic Roles
During this new–product strategy development stage the company uses the environmental scanning
process to identify trend that pose (create) either opportunities or threats. Relevant company
strengths and weaknesses are also identified. He outcomes of new–product strategy development is
not only new–product ideas but identifying markets for which new products will be developed and
strategic roles new products might serve.
When Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc. a national consulting firm, asked firms what strategic role was
served by their most successful recent product. The answer was, first we defined the direction of
new–product development and divide into externally and internally driven factors.
Cross–functional teams
A small number of people from different departments in an organization who are mutually
accountable to a common set of performance goals.
Teams are especially important in new–product development so that individuals from research and
development, marketing, manufacturing, finance, and so forth can simultaneously search together in
a constructive environment for new product and me–market opportunities.

The New Product Development Process
Introduction New products are introduced to the market in order to fill a gap a consumer believes to
exist. Therefore new products satisfy the needs and wants of the market. Firms benefit greatly from
the successful introduction of these new products into the market. As a result, firms spend a
considerable amount of time, money and resources on new product development. This report is
going analyze the new product development process. The report is also going to examine eight steps
needed to complete a new product development process. Summary of the New Product
Development process New product development is used by firms in order to create and introduce
new products to the market. According to Casselman & Nadeau (2008), the new product
development process is part of the strategic process used by firms in order remain competitive.
Firms ensure that any innovation is protected by patents or legal barriers in order to introduce the
new product in the market before any competitors as well as limit any possible competition. The
concept of new product development begins with perception of a market gap. Once the opportunity
has been identified, senior management creates an environment where by idea generation and
screening is encouraged. In fact, Kachouie & Sedighadeli (2013) state that managers must not only
be committed to innovation, they should also show their support by creating cross–functional teams
in charge of innovation. Also senior management must be involved in

Task Two – Target 1200 words
QN: Identify the skills needed for successful New Product Development and where they will be
found within or outside the organisation, with consideration to the roles of the team members.
Answer
Developing a successful drive for new products and product development of TSS' product range is a
very complex process with the main difficulties, from a marketer's perspective, being the integration
of a team of various people or departments involved in the product development. Belbin (2004)
concluded that there were only a few ways that people could contribute to teamwork with the
essential contributions comprising of the following; Co–ordinating the efforts of the team, Creating
ideas, Motivating and driving the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this stage it's also necessary to have skills that will understand the diffusion of the innovation
process for the TSS products in particular. This diffusion process will guide the market testing and
commercialisation phases. Good marketing skills will contribute greatly to the success of the NPD
process.
Having ascertained the capability requirements for the NPD Process above, it's necessary to build a
team that will steer this process to achieve the company's goals and objectives. Forming a team, to
complete a major task within the organisation may be compared with the external activities of
building collaborative networks. Successful internal collaborative networks, just like their external
counterparts, are about informal processes based on trust, information sharing, joint decision–
making and collective responsibility (Sherrat, 2012).
Belbin (2004) helped define the important individual team roles and the person specifications for a
team such as one set up for NPD as can be seen in Appendix (III). He further suggested that each
team needed an optimum

Designing New Product Development ( Npd )
Companies that consistently bring new goods to market follow a process called new product
development (NPD). The steps may vary depending on the company and good, but many successful
new product launches follow roughly the operating procedure. The process begins with formulating
an idea for a new good or service. The idea is then handed over to a project manager (PM) so that
they can further refine the concept. Once the PM has chosen a concept, the company's legal
department will test, prepare and, if necessary, register the concept with the proper government
agencies. Finally, the company will test the new good, mass–produce the product and analyze
whether the new product launch is successful. Planning structures such as these help firms ... Show

Using this rubric, they can eliminate ideas that do not meet company goals and save a company's
limited resources. Hypothesizing Product Success An analysis, such as a SWOT analysis, is
important for identifying nonstarter concepts. NDP project managers must question whether there is
a demand for exactly what they are trying to build. If there is a demand, they must then determine
whether the demand is strong enough to produce enough revenue. Potential market share is also an
important variable to consider. Additionally, it is important to analyze whether the new product fits
in with current industry trend patterns. Once a project manager weighs these considerations, they
must then decide whether their firm can produce the new product cost–effectively. Finally, they
must calculate if consumer demand is high enough to create a long–term profit margin. Moving
Closer to Finalization At this point, a firm project manager has a solid grasp on what new good or
service they want to produce. The PM will, through a company's legal department, investigate and
register any trademarks or patents before proceeding further. Once the legal department completes
this work, the project can move forward and the PM will work up a profile on the new product's
target demographic. They will also identify the new product's features and benefits. Through tools
such as focus groups and polls, they will then begin to gauge how their consumers or clients will
respond to the new

A Compare and Contrast of the New Product Development Model
Introduction
New product developments are one of the main sources of competitive advantage for companies
today. Companies need new product to keep up with its' competitors. New product development can
be considered as activities that aim to bring new products to market.
The objective of NPD is to minimize the risk of failure. As NPD absorbs both financial and human
resources from a company, it is therefore necessary to develop and implement a methodology for
assisting in the introduction of new products.
NPD models can help to identify problems at an early stage and assist in directing the NPD effort in
the right direction. It can be used as a roadmap and provides an indication of magnitude of the
project required in order to develop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stages are cross functional and each activity is undertaken in parallel to enhance speed to market. To
manage risk, the parallel activities in a certain stage must be designed to gather vital information –
technical, market, financial, operations – in order to drive down the technical and business risk.
Each successive stage is also more costly than previous stage. The idea is to allow an increase in
spending on the development of projects as the uncertainty goes down. Preceding each stage is a
decision point or gate which serves as a go/kill and prioritization decision point.
The advantages of the stage–gate are following:
– Well organized innovation can be a source of competitive advantage.
– Accelerated product development. Necessary because of shortening product life cycles.
– Increased success chance of new products. Prevents poor projects early and helps to redirect them
– Integrated market orientation.
Multiple convergent model
The multiple convergent model (Baker and Hart, 1994) follows parallel processing – like the stage–
gate model – which allows iterations among participants within stages. However, there are two
problems with parallel processing. First, it ignores the important inputs to NPD that are provided by
customers and suppliers. Second, if functions are to work in parallel then when do the processes take
decisions and move on to the next stage?
The multiple convergent model overcomes the issue by

The Current Product Development Process
Secondly, the current product development process needs a timely interaction among different
departments in order to detect problems in a relatively early period of the process; the traditional
approach would not meet this needs (Yelkur et al., 1996). Thus, the new product development team
is required to be made up of members from different background, such as engineering, marketing,
and management, so that they may work closely in introducing new products. As a result, the
democratic atmosphere of the work place is crucial for the process. Amabile (1998) and Amabile et
al. (1999) argue that freedom in processes promotes their motivation and helps employees make the
most of their expertise.
In certain corporations, product development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, the ideas from brainstorming may experience the Deep Dive Approach, by which discarded
ideas are archived and top solutions are selected to client meeting. After communicate with client,
feedback may be given for further prototyping or contribute directly for manufacturing.
Three kinds of unique features contribute to the IDEO's philosophy of "fail often to succeed sooner".
Firstly, the quick prototyping enables the project team to make mistakes to find the appropriate
solutions. In other words, it is similar to the method of trial and error, and follows the principles of
the three "R's": Rough, Rapid and Right. This is supported by some experience of IDEO. During the
early stages of the design process, IDEO generate as many ideas as possible. Team members' task is
to dump ideas, and they have no responsibilities to the unsuccessful ideas in this period. They
prepare to fail a lot so that the early prototypes are crude, which would not waste the precious time.
In addition, instant interaction among project team members and clients ensure that the products are
consumer–centered and members in the project are actively participated. The playroom atmosphere
in IDEO ensures the instant communication between members to exchange latest insights and ideas,
which would enhance their understanding of the ongoing project, because democratic environment
boosts the effectiveness of interaction. Moreover, project teams

Using Challenge Driven Innovation to Optimise New Product...
Using Challenge Driven Innovation to Optimise New Product Development The era of 'know it all'
management in creating solutions to problems affecting different sectors of the economy is long
gone. Most innovative firms are turning to challenge driven innovation to churn out new
technologies to the market. These sectors range from the energy, agriculture, reduction of carbon gas
emissions to Information Technology among others. Firms have realised that there is a better pool of
innovative ideas out there that is cheaper, effective and workable than internal product development
procedures. In fact, the internal process may take so long and involve many product and market
tests. Unfortunately, a significant number of these ideas fail to solve ... Show more content on

Furthermore, the company must be willing to take the cost and encourage employees to take risk. 2.
Mergers and takeovers Big firms may encourage smaller firms to come up with innovate solutions.
In this case, they may allow small firms and start up to use their software, devices or other
applications to come up with new ideas. These ideas can then be absorbed into the firm. Several start
up have made a fortune by selling innovative solutions to bigger and better financed firms. 3. Joint
ventures and consortiums Two firms may come together with the sole aim of developing a solution.
In this case, they bring their synergies together to achieve the goal. This speeds up product
development and makes the venture less expensive. Where the cost of product development is very
high, a joint venture would reduce the risk and cost. 4. Contracted engagements Some ideas and
problems need specialised knowledge and equipment. The best way around it is hiring specialised
work force to unravel the challenge. A firm could hire another to do a research or set up a special
unit for research purposes. This is very common in technology, medical and chemical industries. 5.
Collaborations with universities Universities are having a large pool of talent that firms could utilise
cheaply. Challenges may be thrown at specific departments to come up with ideas and solutions.
Winning solutions are then awarded and absorbed. Universities are a major source of innovative

When Charlie Price's father died, Charlie had no idea that he would have to completely revamp the
family business in order to keep the family shoe factory running, nor did he realize the problems that
would arise out of his change from men's shoes to heels for drag queens. Charlie had to employ
fundamental marketing techniques in order to make the 180–degree transformation of his company

If, for example, Christian Louboutin were to make a special line or special edition drag queen boot,
the luxury factor and brand name status of these boots would certainly dig into the profits of Kinky
Boots. Nevertheless, Kinky Boots themselves could offer limited and special shoes releases. Another
thing that aids Kinky Boots in this potential threat is their name is synonymous with catering to the
needs of transgendered individuals, which gives them a certain credibility that is important to
making a purchase. In the development of a product, often the textbook steps are ignored and the
product organically comes to be in a mixed order. This is exactly what happened with Kinky Boots.
The development of this product was not generated in a "think tank" atmosphere; this product came
more out of trial and error. First, there was the idea screening with Lola, to see if he would be
interested in trying the special boot. Then, there was the first round of product development that
went over like a lead balloon because the flat, burgundy boot did not appeal to the target market:
drag queens. It is through the help of Lola on the project that product development process becomes
more textbook. By having Lola leave London to join the company, the idea generation and idea
screening processes are by–passed because this was a last resort

Idea Generation : The Development Of A Product Will Start...
Idea Generation: The development of a product will start with the concept. It is necessary to employ
strong analyses to identify current market trends and available solutions, understand customer
behavior and needs, and identify areas of opportunity. This information will help keep ideas focused
and relevant. Some tools that can help this analysis include a basis internal and external SWOT
analysis, study of market and customer trends, competitor analysis, focus groups, sales staff and
other employees, and information from trade shows. It is also helpful for the team to keep important
aspects of the future product in mind such as how lean it is, how scalable it is and how much return
can it generate. There may be many ideas at this point, which will be analyzed in detail in the next
stage. During the new product development (NPD) process, keep the system nimble and use flexible
discretion over which activities are executed. You may want to develop multiple versions of your
road map scaled to suit different types and risk levels of projects.
Idea Screening: This step is crucial to ensure that unsuitable ideas, for whatever reason, are rejected
as soon as possible. Ideas need to be considered objectively, ideally by a group or committee.
Specific screening criteria need to be set for this stage, looking at ROI, techinical sense, benefits to
target audience, affordability and market potential. These questions need to be considered carefully,

New products are a vital part of a firm's competitive growth strategy. Leaders of successful firms
know that it is not enough to develop new products on sporadic basis. What counts is a climate of a
products development that leads to one triumph after another. It is commonplace fro major
companies to have 50percent or more of their current sales in products introduced within the last 10
years. Some Additional facts about new products are: Many new products are failures. Estimates of
new product failures range from 33%90%, depending on industry. New product sales grow far more

outside the company and submits the product candidate for customers approval. Test marketing is a
controlled experiment in a limited geographic area to test the new product or in some cases certain
aspects of the marketing strategy, such as packaging or advertising. The main goal of a test market is
to evaluate and adjust the general marketing strategy to be used and the appropriate marketing mix.
Throughout the test market process, findings are being analyzed and forecasts of volume developed.
Upon completion of a successful test market phase, the marketing plan can be finalized and the
product prepared for launch.
Commercialization
This is the launching step in which the firm commits to introducing the product into the
marketplace. During this stage, heavy emphasis is placed on the organization structure and
management talent needed to implement the marketing strategy. Emphasis is also given to following
up on such things as bugs in the design, production costs, quality control, and inventory
requirements. Importance of time Over the course of the last five years, companies have placed an
increasing emphasis on shortening their products' time to market. Time to market can be defined as

Innovation:
Product innovation is the creation and subsequent introduction of a good or service that is either
new, or improved on previous goods or services.
Product innovation is defined as: the development of new products, changes in design of established
products, or use of new materials or components in the manufacture of established products[1]
Thus product innovation can be divided into two categories of innovation: development of new
products, and improvement of existing products.
Systemmatic Innovation of Products includes:
Technology strategy
Design thinking skills
Customer needs analysis
Systematic creativity methods

development tools and methods into perspective. Research should be directed to assure that: (1) the
firm is operating on the efficient frontier with respect to each of these strategic goals, and (2) the
firm is making the best tradeoffs among these goals. Research must recognize that there are
tradeoffs along the efficient frontier. For example, if wefocus on just two of the many goals of
product development, then the efficient frontier suggests that there are tradeoffs between customer
satisfaction and platform reuse. A firm can becometoo committed to either. For example, the
significant reuse of components in platforms, software, and designs may get the product to the

For sales and market share to be increased further, it will be necessary to achieve this through
innovation with completely new product development and introduction, or more likely, as
developing new products has become increasingly difficult to develop new brand/product extensions
such as mixes and delivery systems,, and performance could be enhanced and margins protected by
achieving world class marketing, innovation and production standards. At the same time costs will
continue to be squeezed. Resources should be focussed on creating value that the customer is willing
to pay for. Focus for Review The environment in which the company has been operating has become
increasingly competitive from both similar companies fighting for share of a saturated market which
has plateaued in size, and with the influx of generic products, which focus on low cost production as
patents are challenged, and so Global Enterprises are unable to compete on such a simple low cost
basis. The introduction of new product variants is occurring at an ever increasing rate to try to add
value and prolong patent life, whilst totally new formulations and products are becoming harder to
create. Meanwhile as existing products come off patent, generic companies quickly replicate them
and win a substantial market share because they offer prices with which non–generic companies find
it hard to compete.

New Product Development
INTRODUCTION
For any company, to maintain an already established brand name is as equally a challenging task as
the creation of the brand. In today's challenging market environment, any business is expected to
continuously focus on organizational learning and continuous improvement and introduction of
products and services to stay alive in the market.
Continuous learning helps organizations to identify gap between the current business and areas
which could be tapped with the help of existing knowledge of the market which is close to our
existing area of focus. This fits to services businesses as well as products businesses. Where there is
a solution to a problem, there is the prospect for a business.

estimated the likely selling price based upon customer feedback. The selling price was dependent
only on the manufacturing cost as there is no competition for this product. The price was fixed on Rs

a quantity in excess of 10,000 units was required to make the product. Thus the product in its initial

questions were answered too: How will the product be produced most cost effectively? The product
manufacturing was to be initially outsourced and the number of units kept to a minimum of 1,000
units. What will it cost to produce it? The production cost of the product was arrived at Rs 200/ unit.

To answer the question "What are the factors that made Schwan focus extensively on innovative
product development initiatives"there are to state two main points.
The first arises from the changing dynamics of the frozen pizza business in the country. For the last
decade, the frozen pizza market was growing the fastest within the entire US frozen food industry,
reporting at a rate of 29,2% between 1995 and 2000. This was caused by the introduction of the
'rising crust' technology, through which frozen pizza got almost the quality of the pizza offered in
restaurants. This had a declining effect on the other three segments of the pizza branch (dine–in,
take away and home delivery), because now having almost the same quality, frozen pizzas ... Show

The success and the most important function of these teams is based on effective communication.
Therefore, at every step in the innovation process every single member has to be exactly informed
about proceedings and stated decisions. Concerning this you can criticize it as being very time
consuming and considering that in reality often communication problems occure great differences
may arise by a failure in the communication process.
Moreover, it is very important to set clear goals and guidelines for the groups and their members
depending on their expertise. If this lacks it is not ensured that all team members treated optimal
resource utilization as a priority issue and conflicts of competence and responsibility may come
across.
Although it is considered that by involving people early a lot of development time is saved through
building team support, momentum, excitement and enthusiasm, it can also be the other way around.
You just have to think about arising problems in the team with the effect that the whole developing
process suffers from this situation, or people are to busy by dealing with their personal relationships
instead of working intensively.
Later in the development process the different departments work on their explicit subject in the
process (see point 2), so each department plays a key role, but communication between them is still
the key to success. Therefore, a communication process initiated

Evaluation Of A New Product Development
This methodology is not only for new product development, but also can be linked to any of the
existing products. For new procedural risk assessment, steps have to be drafted inside the company.
This draft forms the ethics with procedures for upcoming new products to undergo a risk
assessment. To draft these procedures the following tasks have to be done.
Task 1: Develop Risk Management Skills and Resources
Task 2: Tailor Risk Management to and Integrate it with new Product Development
Task3: Quantify Impact of Risks on your Main Objectives
Task 4: Support all Critical Decisions with Risk Management Results
Task 5: Monitor and Review your Risks, Risk Mitigation Actions, and Risk Management Process

Ways of analysing risks:
1. Quantitative Analysis: Find factors affecting the process. Assign costs to each factor. Calculate the
risk factors on an annual basis.
2. Qualitative Analysis: Its judges the image of an organisation. The factors are decided upon
severity and consequences of the occurrence. It depends upon experience and intuits about the
processes.
Probability =(possible outcomes of a paticular event )/(Total possibility of the event)
Probability can also be related to probability distribution functions based on the occurrences. The
occurrence (i.e. inputs) which follows particular pattern and it can be correlated to particular fashion
according to the distribution function. Ex: Poisson distribution, Normal Distribution etc. Probability
can also be found using prior and joint probability using Bayes theorem. Risk can be calculated by
cost benefit analysis, internal rate of return, NPV calculation. Societal and individual risks have to
be accounted for all processes. Estimates can be calculated to understand the nature of the problem
and proper mitigation can be planned.

1. How well is this team performing? (Scale of 1–5 effectiveness, 5 most effective). Discuss.
Team is not performing well. I can give 2 or maybe 3 at most for its effectiveness. Because firstly,
there is a serious motivation problem. Beaumont's new policy of cross–functional team to look at
the bigger picture did not change the way of reporting and evaluation of the team members. They
were working both in the project and in their functional area but they were evaluated only on the
basis of performance on their functional area. So there is no indication of extrinsic or intrinsic
reward for the team performance. This situation is not motivational at all. Secondly, ... Show more

However, diversity of the group is not managed properly and conflicts are not handled effectively
because of poor communication. There is a serious degree of trust problem in the team. For
example, Merz has not much confidence in team members' competence and she is not believing in
their ability to deliver the product. Therefore, we can't talk about a team efficacy for this team.
Everyone asserts his/her expertise and experience but no one regards and trust each other's. Lastly
evaluation system of performance of the employees is a serious problem. While they were working
both in the project and in their functional areas, they were evaluated only on the basis of
performance on their functional area. This situation definitely destroys motivation of the team.
4. Describe and discuss issues in the IntensCare Project Team (goals, leadership, power issues,
design of team and it's dynamics, conflict).
There are many kinds of conflicts in the team. First of all, there is a serious trust issue in the team
which led to poor communication which is causing information conflict. For example, Jack and
O'Brien didn't inform Merz on engineering problems about data displays and battery units or
O'Brien didn't have information whether there is any update about delays with the software.

In this article we try to combine the terminologies of tourism marketing, services marketing and

Developing A New Product Development
The Key to Success or Failure in Developing a New Product
Introduction
In the sustainable growth strategies of businesses, new product development plays an important role
increasingly. Many successful firms stay ahead of the competitors by creating innovations in order
to avoid a reduction in their sales and profits. Despite these extremely exertions of companies, many
new products cannot become successful in the marketplace and businesses become suffering from
their failures. The common mistakes are eventually repeated by several careless companies. Thus,
this article will expose some of the main reasons for these failures and suggest some productive
approaches to succeed in a new product. The overall structure of the paper takes the form of four
parts, including this introductory section. The second part begins by presenting the causes why
many new products fail, focusing on the three key themes as follows: market orientation, planning
and timing. Subsequently, it proposes the methods and critical factors to pursue the goal of winning
in new product development. The paper ends with a conclusion in the last section. Common
Reasons for New Product Failure
To begin with, there are some of the mistakes leading to new product failure which should be learnt
from and avoided in the future. Cooper (2001) claims that one of these deficiencies is a market
orientation of the new product. Inadequate concentration on the marketplace, misunderstanding of

Research Paper On Product Development
Product Development: "Product development is the process of designing, creating and marketing
new products or services to benefit the customers". Product development comprises of all the
processes, which leads the formation of a product starting from the Initial idea to the sale of the final
product. It is the key tool to keep the companies in competition with the competitor products and to
keep up with the changes and trends in the market. Product development comes into play when a
firm wants to develop a new product to target a specific market segment or in improving an existing
product or its packaging. Product development plays a key role in the success of a product and also
on the lifetime of the product. Most successful organizations and manufacturing companies are more
likely to have some kind of formally defined and well–structured development process. Although
the product development process is defined differently from different manufacturers, it contains the

Marketing Development Of New Product Development
In today's competitive world, new product development is a crucial part of a strategy to ensure
sustainable and profitable business. Rapid product development and launch has many important
advantages. Firstly it creates a loyal customer base because switching to a different product may
cause inconvenience or extra cost to the customer. Secondly, it helps in establishing technological
leadership for that product. The first company learns how to reduce the cost of production through
trials and errors which is also known as "learning curve". Companies which enter later on may not
be able to achieve the least production cost quickly enough to be competitive. A rapid product
launch also allows a company to maintain monopoly till similar ... Show more content on

A new product development consists of various stages like generation and selection of ideas,
conceptual designing, prototype development, final design, production and delivery. To achieve
rapid product development it is customary to think that all of these stages should be completed as
quickly as possible. However one of the pioneers in automotive industry "Toyota" seems to apply a
contradictive approach. Toyota spends more time on decision making, and communicating the final
design. A set of all possible solutions are analyzed in parallel and many prototypes are built before
finalizing a design. This approach may seem more time consuming, but Toyota has pioneered in
making cars faster with minimum wastage. Many companies hold meetings by deciding convenient
time based on hierarchal level in the company or set a fixed time for meeting. Toyota employees are
asked to give a set of convenient times and based on data collected from everyone, a meeting time is
set which is suitable to everyone. Toyota also has lesser people in a team as compared to other
automotive companies and the people are not dedicated to a single project and most people are only
involved during the crucial stages after which they move on to other projects. In contrast to most
automotive companies which have detailed development

New Product Development ( Npd )
New Product Development (NPD) entails introduction of new products or services to the market. In
today's environments, NPD is crucial to many companies due to a number of reasons: firstly,
international competition is increasing rapidly; markets have become fragmented and demanding;
again, technologies are changing and becoming more diverse. (Bigliardi, Eleonora, Roberto, &
Giuseppe, 2010). In order to always be ahead of competition as well as maintain a competitive
advantage, organisations have integrated NPD into their corporate strategy and also offer products
that are well aligned to target customer needs. (Calantone, Vickery, & Dröge, 1995; Damanpour &

Thereafter, conclusions and recommendations for improving the NPD process of the company are
enumerated. Literature Review Various NPD models have been proposed as a result of evolution of
design of NPD process throughout the years. Specifically, three major generations of NPD models
are identified. (Bigliardi, Bottani, & Rinaldi, 2013) For the first generation of models, NPD process
was perceived as series of stages to be conducted chronologically to simplify innovation activities.
(Bigliardi et al., 2013). Works by Klompmaker et al and Hanan (cited in Bigliardi et al., 2010)
proposed an NPD model comprising of 27–steps and a 24– activities flow diagram appropriate for
non–industrial goods respectively, while McGuire (cited in Bigliardi et al., 2013) proposed a similar
model for industrial goods. Another model proposed during the early 1990s indicated NPD steps
were performed in parallel or concurrently (Clark & Fujimoto, 1991). Cooper (1994) postulated a
third generation of NPD models, which involves moving a new product from idea to launch mainly
incorporating discipline into a process. Even though there exist differences across various models, in
terms of the activities recognised, each theoretical element shows a framework that is significantly
similar. Most of the stage based models denote the process as a series of linear activities, having
feedback loops between each activity. New

The concept of having re–usable software and hardware components which can be used for product
developments have been in vogue for quite some time but in form of frameworks conforming to
different standards which need good learning time from their users perspective. À la carte Product
Development aims at having a single portal which can span across the lifecycle of product

The thought process aims to bring down new product development to something as simple as
selecting client interfacing UI pages, logging services, databases, cloud based hardware

Product Development For Young Startups
Product development for young startups Today we face an unprecedented raise in the entrepreneurial
activity around the world. Such trend has not been seen since the times before the industrial
revolution. Millions of people coming from widely diverse backgrounds, at different ages start new
business ventures. Experienced professionals, students, academic researchers, famous business
tycoons and average corporate employees, worldwide, peruse new business opportunities and
introduce new products and services to the global and local markets. However, statistics show that
63% of the technology startups, which are in the main focus of this essay, do not continue operating
after the fourth year of their establishment (StatisticBrain, 2014). Such failures do not only cause
significant damages to the founders, investors and people employed by these companies, but also
bring negatives to the entire society and business environment as the time, dedication and
competences of these people are inevitably wasted (Ries, 2011). Researchers argue that the main
reason early–stage ventures fail is their inability to develop a product that will meet the needs of the
market (Weisul, 2014). At the same time, practice shows that the success of a given product can be
predicted and measured at the very early stages of its development. The purpose of this essay is to
give recommendations, to young technology startup leaders and entrepreneurs, about how to design

cost effective collaboration. This collaboration also involves joining forces with the suppliers across
the product development cycle for easy access & faster processing of the products. This also ensures
quick access to markets, lower product cost & better quality. Attaining successful suppliers results in
success of the company & enhances its overall performance. It isn't easy for a company to recognize
if the suppliers they choose are capable of supporting their new product development or hinder their
growth & effect the company's performance. Companies need to be able to identify if the supplier
integration during the product development phase has negative or positive effects on the
technological risks & uncertainty. They need to choose the right decision for their company.
Suppliers provide materials & services to an organization based on the new product requirements.
The product or services provided by the suppliers may not be of a greater quality, determining this is

knowledge about the products than the companies, companies need to be cautious about it.

companies have difficulty in controlling their product development activities because they ignorance
the NPD roles and responsibilities, the management experience, and lack of suitable strategies for
launching new product. Therefore, developing a clear strategy is essential because it provides the
guidelines for resource allocation and also the key criteria against which all projects can be managed
through to the market launch. With a well–considered new product development (NPD) strategy,
company can avoid wasting time, money and business resources. The strategy will help the
company well–organise the product planning and capture your customer's attention. Idea generation,
the systematic search for new product idea. Major sources of new product ideas include internal
source and external source such as customers, competitors and others. Using internal source, the
company can find new ideas through formal R&D. Companies can also obtain good new–product
ideas from any of a number of external sources. For instance, distributors and suppliers can provide
ideas for new product development. Due to distributors have close relationship with the market and

Product Development Project

  • 1. Product Development Project The following interim report is an overview of the work that I have done during my first work term (4 months) at Xxx. This report will also go in to detail and explain the progress that has been made up to date and my expectations for the remainder of my upcoming work terms. This report will not show any information that Xxx regards as sensitive. This report is for the ELEC 3999A Fall 2017 Co–op course at Carleton University. Xxx is a multinational networking and telecommunications company with its headquarters in Kista, Stockholm in Sweden. The company provide telecommunications equipment and software to telecommunication operators. My job is to help write the software tools for the product development unit (PDU) 4G5G team. The software ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the sprint period is finished there will be a retrospective to review what went well, what should be changed and how to improve the next sprint. The cycle then repeats for the next sprint but for the next sprint the team will try to implement actions taken from the retrospective in the previous sprint. Starting a ticket requires reading over the ticket on Redmine to identify the problem and then going into the repository in the VM and try to fix the problem. Python is the primary programming language that is used when writing software code into the repository. Reading and understanding the code that is already written into the repository required to figuring out how to either fix a ticket or implement a feature into the repository. After applying the fix or update to the repository, the code is tested to check that it passes all test cases that have been written for the software. If the code passes the test cases, then it is pushed onto Gerrit using Git. Gerrit is a web–based tool to allow software developers to code review each other's code. Gerrit by default will run Jenkins which is an open source automation server that will run test cases for the code that gets submitted onto Gerrit. When the uploaded code passes all the tests in Jenkins it will be ready for code review by another team member. If my team members give the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New Product Development Process At Onity New Product Development Process at Onity Background Onity, one of the pioneers of electronic door lock systems formerly known as TESA Entry Systems was founded in 1941. Onity is a part of United Technologies Corp.'s (UTC, NYSE:UTX) Building & Industrial Systems division. Onity has set the standards for electronic door locking systems with installations of more than 4 million throughout the world and was second to none in the Hospitality, Corporate, Education, Government and Marine markets since 1984. With the flagship products such as Advance RFID, Advance, HT24, HT28, Front Desk Systems, etc., Onity had its electronic locking systems installed on 22,000 properties in 115 countries. However, fierce competitive products launched by the rivals like Salto and Ingersoll Rand had forced Onity to dive into the market for a narrow styling locking system. The sleek designed locks from Salto in particular were eating into the luxury hotels' market of Onity. To keep up with its number one position in the industry, Onity management decided to develop a narrow style lock. However, they failed to follow best practices in the industry, which ultimately led them to stop a very ambitious product development. Onity had the greatest industrial technological advantage in the market, yet in the chaos of a very iterative process of design and validation, Onity lost the battle. The various process involved in the New Product Development (NPD) of any mechanical product will be covered in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While some of these differences are the result of legitimate differences in their business strategy, business environment, organization, and the nature of their products, a frequent problem is the lack of a common framework of the best practices of product development. With extensive investment of time, an organization could develop the broad, internal expertise necessary to produce an effective improvement plan for product development. During the entire process from conceptualizing to the launch of new product;the activities of the production and marketing functions are as important as those of product development/design function. Many of these activities are interdependent and the new product design must fit in not only with the production and marketing functions of the company but also with a company's marketing & operations strategies and the existing systems & policies. If a new design warrants change in these strategies or policies or systems , it needs the wholehearted concurrence of production & marketing functions. NEED FOR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT In today's competitive world, companies must aggressively improve the way that they develop products. While the concepts of NPD are simple, the implementation of these practices and the process of changing a company 's culture is challenging. Just four months remained until the Honeywell Building Controls Division (BCD) planned to introduce the Mod IV, and the product development team was fighting to stay on schedule. Mod IV, a motor used in heating, ventilating, and air– conditioning (HVAC) applications, represented the most ambitious project in the division's history, and the product's development reflected many of the changes the division had experienced in recent years. Product Development and the Controls Business In the old system of product development, the product passed through each functional area in a sequence of discrete steps: marketers conceived of a product idea and passed it along to design engineers, who would design the product and pass the design to process engineers; process engineers determined how to make the product and then dropped the plans into the laps of the manufacturing engineers and the plants. At each stage in the sequence, people encountered problems created by work done at earlier stages. Process engineers, for example, would discover they could not make what the design engineers had crafted. Product development thus became a game of "tossing the bear over the wall." When you completed your particular piece of the project, you tossed it over the wall to the next group, not caring what took place on 1. A widely–cited economic model developed by McKinsey and Company "calculates that going 50% over budget during development to get a product out on time reduces . . . profits by only 4%. But staying on budget and getting to market six months late reduces profits by a third." (David Woodruff and Stephen Phillips, "A Smarter Way to Manufacture," Business Week, April 30, 1990, p. 111. • 18. The New Product Development Process Introduction New products are introduced to the market in order to fill a gap a consumer believes to exist. Therefore new products satisfy the needs and wants of the market. Firms benefit greatly from the successful introduction of these new products into the market. As a result, firms spend a considerable amount of time, money and resources on new product development. This report is going analyze the new product development process. The report is also going to examine eight steps needed to complete a new product development process. Summary of the New Product Development process New product development is used by firms in order to create and introduce new products to the market. According to Casselman & Nadeau (2008), the new product development process is part of the strategic process used by firms in order remain competitive. Firms ensure that any innovation is protected by patents or legal barriers in order to introduce the new product in the market before any competitors as well as limit any possible competition. The concept of new product development begins with perception of a market gap. Once the opportunity has been identified, senior management creates an environment where by idea generation and screening is encouraged. In fact, Kachouie & Sedighadeli (2013) state that managers must not only be committed to innovation, they should also show their support by creating cross–functional teams in charge of innovation. New Product Development Task Two – Target 1200 words QN: Identify the skills needed for successful New Product Development and where they will be found within or outside the organisation, with consideration to the roles of the team members. Answer Developing a successful drive for new products and product development of TSS' product range is a very complex process with the main difficulties, from a marketer's perspective, being the integration of a team of various people or departments involved in the product development. Belbin (2004) concluded that there were only a few ways that people could contribute to teamwork with the essential contributions comprising of the following; Co–ordinating the efforts of the team, Creating ideas, Motivating and driving the ... This diffusion process will guide the market testing and commercialisation phases. Good marketing skills will contribute greatly to the success of the NPD process. Having ascertained the capability requirements for the NPD Process above, it's necessary to build a team that will steer this process to achieve the company's goals and objectives. Forming a team, to complete a major task within the organisation may be compared with the external activities of building collaborative networks. Successful internal collaborative networks, just like their external counterparts, are about informal processes based on trust, information sharing, joint decision– making and collective responsibility (Sherrat, 2012). Belbin (2004) helped define the important individual team roles and the person specifications for a team such as one set up for NPD as can be seen in Appendix (III). • 22. Designing New Product Development ( Npd ) Companies that consistently bring new goods to market follow a process called new product development (NPD). The steps may vary depending on the company and good, but many successful new product launches follow roughly the operating procedure. The process begins with formulating an idea for a new good or service. The idea is then handed over to a project manager (PM) so that they can further refine the concept. Once the PM has chosen a concept, the company's legal department will test, prepare and, if necessary, register the concept with the proper government agencies. Finally, the company will test the new good, mass–produce the product and analyze whether the new product launch is successful. Planning structures such as these help firms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using this rubric, they can eliminate ideas that do not meet company goals and save a company's limited resources. Hypothesizing Product Success An analysis, such as a SWOT analysis, is important for identifying nonstarter concepts. NDP project managers must question whether there is a demand for exactly what they are trying to build. If there is a demand, they must then determine whether the demand is strong enough to produce enough revenue. Potential market share is also an important variable to consider. Additionally, it is important to analyze whether the new product fits in with current industry trend patterns. Once a project manager weighs these considerations, they must then decide whether their firm can produce the new product cost–effectively. Finally, they must calculate if consumer demand is high enough to create a long–term profit margin. Moving Closer to Finalization At this point, a firm project manager has a solid grasp on what new good or service they want to produce. The PM will, through a company's legal department, investigate and register any trademarks or patents before proceeding further. Once the legal department completes this work, the project can move forward and the PM will work up a profile on the new product's target demographic. They will also identify the new product's features and benefits. Through tools such as focus groups and polls, they will then begin to gauge how their consumers or clients will respond to the new ... • 24. A Compare and Contrast of the New Product Development Model Introduction New product developments are one of the main sources of competitive advantage for companies today. Companies need new product to keep up with its' competitors. New product development can be considered as activities that aim to bring new products to market. The objective of NPD is to minimize the risk of failure. As NPD absorbs both financial and human resources from a company, it is therefore necessary to develop and implement a methodology for assisting in the introduction of new products. NPD models can help to identify problems at an early stage and assist in directing the NPD effort in the right direction. Stages are cross functional and each activity is undertaken in parallel to enhance speed to market. To manage risk, the parallel activities in a certain stage must be designed to gather vital information – technical, market, financial, operations – in order to drive down the technical and business risk. Each successive stage is also more costly than previous stage. The idea is to allow an increase in spending on the development of projects as the uncertainty goes down. Preceding each stage is a decision point or gate which serves as a go/kill and prioritization decision point. The advantages of the stage–gate are following: – Well organized innovation can be a source of competitive advantage. – Accelerated product development. Necessary because of shortening product life cycles. – Increased success chance of new products. Prevents poor projects early and helps to redirect them – Integrated market orientation. Multiple convergent model The multiple convergent model (Baker and Hart, 1994) follows parallel processing – like the stage– gate model – which allows iterations among participants within stages. However, there are two problems with parallel processing. First, it ignores the important inputs to NPD that are provided by customers and suppliers. Second, if functions are to work in parallel then when do the processes take decisions and move on to the next stage? The multiple convergent model overcomes the issue by ... • 26. The Current Product Development Process Secondly, the current product development process needs a timely interaction among different departments in order to detect problems in a relatively early period of the process; the traditional approach would not meet this needs (Yelkur et al., 1996). Thus, the new product development team is required to be made up of members from different background, such as engineering, marketing, and management, so that they may work closely in introducing new products. As a result, the democratic atmosphere of the work place is crucial for the process. Amabile (1998) and Amabile et al. Firstly, the quick prototyping enables the project team to make mistakes to find the appropriate solutions. In other words, it is similar to the method of trial and error, and follows the principles of the three "R's": Rough, Rapid and Right. This is supported by some experience of IDEO. During the early stages of the design process, IDEO generate as many ideas as possible. Team members' task is to dump ideas, and they have no responsibilities to the unsuccessful ideas in this period. They prepare to fail a lot so that the early prototypes are crude, which would not waste the precious time. In addition, instant interaction among project team members and clients ensure that the products are consumer–centered and members in the project are actively participated. The playroom atmosphere in IDEO ensures the instant communication between members to exchange latest insights and ideas, which would enhance their understanding of the ongoing project, because democratic environment boosts the effectiveness of interaction. In this case, they may allow small firms and start up to use their software, devices or other applications to come up with new ideas. These ideas can then be absorbed into the firm. Several start up have made a fortune by selling innovative solutions to bigger and better financed firms. 3. Joint ventures and consortiums Two firms may come together with the sole aim of developing a solution. In this case, they bring their synergies together to achieve the goal. This speeds up product development and makes the venture less expensive. Where the cost of product development is very high, a joint venture would reduce the risk and cost. 4. Contracted engagements Some ideas and problems need specialised knowledge and equipment. The best way around it is hiring specialised work force to unravel the challenge. A firm could hire another to do a research or set up a special unit for research purposes. This is very common in technology, medical and chemical industries. 5. Some tools that can help this analysis include a basis internal and external SWOT analysis, study of market and customer trends, competitor analysis, focus groups, sales staff and other employees, and information from trade shows. • 49. New Product Development To answer the question "What are the factors that made Schwan focus extensively on innovative product development initiatives"there are to state two main points. The first arises from the changing dynamics of the frozen pizza business in the country. For the last decade, the frozen pizza market was growing the fastest within the entire US frozen food industry, reporting at a rate of 29,2% between 1995 and 2000. This was caused by the introduction of the 'rising crust' technology, through which frozen pizza got almost the quality of the pizza offered in restaurants. This had a declining effect on the other three segments of the pizza branch (dine–in, take away and home delivery), because now having almost the same quality, frozen pizzas ... Concerning this you can criticize it as being very time consuming and considering that in reality often communication problems occure great differences may arise by a failure in the communication process. Moreover, it is very important to set clear goals and guidelines for the groups and their members depending on their expertise. If this lacks it is not ensured that all team members treated optimal resource utilization as a priority issue and conflicts of competence and responsibility may come across. Although it is considered that by involving people early a lot of development time is saved through building team support, momentum, excitement and enthusiasm, it can also be the other way around. You just have to think about arising problems in the team with the effect that the whole developing process suffers from this situation, or people are to busy by dealing with their personal relationships instead of working intensively. Rapid product development and launch has many important advantages. Firstly it creates a loyal customer base because switching to a different product may cause inconvenience or extra cost to the customer. Secondly, it helps in establishing technological leadership for that product. A new product development consists of various stages like generation and selection of ideas, conceptual designing, prototype development, final design, production and delivery. To achieve rapid product development it is customary to think that all of these stages should be completed as quickly as possible. However one of the pioneers in automotive industry "Toyota" seems to apply a contradictive approach. Toyota spends more time on decision making, and communicating the final design. A set of all possible solutions are analyzed in parallel and many prototypes are built before finalizing a design. This approach may seem more time consuming, but Toyota has pioneered in making cars faster with minimum wastage. Many companies hold meetings by deciding convenient time based on hierarchal level in the company or set a fixed time for meeting. Toyota employees are asked to give a set of convenient times and based on data collected from everyone, a meeting time is set which is suitable to everyone. In today's environments, NPD is crucial to many companies due to a number of reasons: firstly, international competition is increasing rapidly; markets have become fragmented and demanding; again, technologies are changing and becoming more diverse. (Bigliardi, Eleonora, Roberto, & Giuseppe, 2010). In order to always be ahead of competition as well as maintain a competitive advantage, organisations have integrated NPD into their corporate strategy and also offer products that are well aligned to target customer needs. Thereafter, conclusions and recommendations for improving the NPD process of the company are enumerated. Literature Review Various NPD models have been proposed as a result of evolution of design of NPD process throughout the years. Specifically, three major generations of NPD models are identified. (Bigliardi, Bottani, & Rinaldi, 2013) For the first generation of models, NPD process was perceived as series of stages to be conducted chronologically to simplify innovation activities. (Bigliardi et al., 2013). Works by Klompmaker et al and Hanan (cited in Bigliardi et al., 2010) proposed an NPD model comprising of 27–steps and a 24– activities flow diagram appropriate for non–industrial goods respectively, while McGuire (cited in Bigliardi et al., 2013) proposed a similar model for industrial goods. Another model proposed during the early 1990s indicated NPD steps were performed in parallel or concurrently (Clark & Fujimoto, 1991). Cooper (1994) postulated a third generation of NPD models, which involves moving a new product from idea to launch mainly incorporating discipline into a process. Even though there exist differences across various models, in terms of the activities recognised, each theoretical element shows a framework that is significantly similar. Most of the stage based models denote the process as a series of linear activities, having feedback loops between each activity. New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such trend has not been seen since the times before the industrial revolution. Millions of people coming from widely diverse backgrounds, at different ages start new business ventures. Experienced professionals, students, academic researchers, famous business tycoons and average corporate employees, worldwide, peruse new business opportunities and introduce new products and services to the global and local markets. However, statistics show that 63% of the technology startups, which are in the main focus of this essay, do not continue operating after the fourth year of their establishment (StatisticBrain, 2014). Such failures do not only cause significant damages to the founders, investors and people employed by these companies, but also bring negatives to the entire society and business environment as the time, dedication and competences of these people are inevitably wasted (Ries, 2011). Researchers argue that the main reason early–stage ventures fail is their inability to develop a product that will meet the needs of the market (Weisul, 2014). At the same time, practice shows that the success of a given product can be predicted and measured at the very early stages of its development. VINU MONNAPPA @03020220 ABSTRACT Industries in the new era tend to concentrate on linking with other corporations on a geographic level, to bring in all their forces together to create a highly technical & cost effective collaboration.
