Manson long and crazy life started at birth, and has not ceased since. He is still today one of the
biggest icons in the murder mix, as being a serial killer. He is a man with many different powers and
ways to draw people in. His long, hard, and crazy life all started with his mother, Kathleen "Kathy"
Maddox. She was the youngest of three children born to Nancy and Charles Maddox, she ran away
from her strict Fundamentalist Christian home when she was 15 years old to escape the cold, strict,
and oppressive family (Sable, 2006). She was an alcoholic runaway at only 16 years old. She gave

If we may trust his memory, at least one guard incited other boys to rape and torture Manson, while
the officer stood by and masturbated on the sidelines (Zayyan). In February 1951, Manson was
arrested again in Beaver, Utah and sentenced for federal time because of a series of stolen cars. He
started off in a minimum–security establishment, Manson assaulted another inmate in January of
1952, he was caught holding a razor blade to the boy's throat and sodomizing him (Zayyan).
Manson was reclassified as "dangerous" and was transferred to a tougher lock up logging eight
major disciplinary infractions, including three homosexual assaults by August of 1952 (Zayyan). He
was then moved to Ohio reformatory a month later, and suddenly there he "turned" over a new leaf,
becoming a "model" prisoner almost overnight, the cunning act was rewarding and he received
parole in May of 1954. Following all of these crazy and different crimes in September 1955,
Manson got off easy with five years probation, he celebrated by skipping a court date in Florida, and
his probation was revoked, he was then picked up in Indianapolis on March 14, 1956, he was sent to
the federal prison at Terminal Island, California, finally winning parole on September 30, 1958
(Zayyan). May 1, 1959 he was jailed in Los Angles, on charges of forging and cashing stolen U.S.
Treasury checks, he escaped with probation which was swiftly revoked with his April 1960

Charles Manson Case
First, I chose this case because of the reverberation of Charles Manson and his crimes. I first had
knowledge of the Charles Manson case after it was referenced in the TV show, Criminal Minds,
after a cult killed 7 people.
Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Manson's life of crime started
from as young as 10 years old. His first crime was robbing a liquor store in his home town. During
his youth, he was continually sent to juvenile detention centers. However, time and time again he
escaped and committed more petty crimes. In 1952, he was sent to the Federal Reformatory in
Chillicothe, Ohio. Up until 1966, Manson was constantly in and out of prison. He was finally
released from Terminal Island in 1967.
Once out of prison, Manson made his to San Francisco with his early followers, including Mary
Brunner and about 19 other women. This was the beginning of Manson's cult, The Manson Family.
The Family later relocated to Spahn's Movie Ranch. After hearing The Beatles' White Album,
Manson was convinced that the song "Helter Sketler" prophesied a race war between Africans
Americans & Caucasians. His plan was to hide underground in Death Valley, California during the
war, in which the Africans would be victorious in. However, he said the African Americans would

This time the target was Terry Melcher, an old acquaintance of Manson. Susan Atkins, Linda
Kasabian and Patricia Krenwinkel were sent to enact the murder at Melcher's house. However, the
Melchers had moved out and instead Sharon Tate, who was a famous actress at the time, her unborn
child and three others who were visiting were killed. The Tate murders received national
recognition. Atkins, Kasabian and Krenwinkel were identified as the killers and after an eight–
month trial, they were all sentenced to death. However, in 1972, the death penalty was abolished in
California so their punishments were overturned to life

Charles Manson Case Study
1. The members of Charles Manson's cult family were Leslie Van Houten, Bobby Beausoleil, Paul
Watkins, Catherine "Gypse" Share, Mary Brunner, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabain, Steve Grogan,
Patricia Krenwinkel, Charles Watson, and Squeaky Fromme. Almost all of the members came from
middle working–class families and were generally happy people. Some of the members were also
very religious like Charles Watson, for example, was a leader of a church youth group and enjoyed
attending Sunday night services. The absence of a father, however, led some of his followers into a
world of experimenting with drugs and running away. Their lost, rebellious souls found comfort in
Charles Manson who became a father figure to them.
2. The 1960s was the decade of the Civil Rights Movement and of counterculture. The Civil Rights
Movement saw the rise of social groups, like the Black Panther Party, who had had enough of being
racially discriminated and would conduct boycotts, sit–ins, and marches in order to support their
cause. Counterculture consisted of young people, known as hippies, who revolted against
government agendas like the Vietnam War, and who wanted to live in a society that was based upon
freedom and love. Manson believed that there would be a race war between blacks and whites and
that black people would come on top. It became evident to Manson that Helter Skelter, the last final
destructive war among men on the face of the earth, was not coming and it was up to him to create
it. So, Manson took advantage of the counterculture happening in the 60's to led young people into
believing the world would go to war and the only way to survive is to stick together.
3. In an era that sought love and peace, Manson was able to successfully manipulate the emotions of
young people. Manson began his recruitment in the hippie ridden area of Haight Ashbury, San
Francisco. There, Manson was able to croon his way into the minds of the young and vulnerable.
Upon recruitment, Manson would tell his followers, while they were under the influence of LSD, to
essentially erase everything they know about society and fill their minds with his philosophies
because he was the embodiment of Jesus Christ. His followers did as he said because most of

A Family Tradition. The Manson Murders One of the most heinous crimes ever committed in recent
history is the Tate / LeBlanc murders masterminded by Charles Manson. Although he never
physically killed anyone, Manson manipulated his followers to carry out these acts. How can a man
manipulate people so easily into committing brutal murders? An even better question is how could
his followers obey his command, without a second thought? I'm not sure we will ever get a
definitive answer.

Richard DeMargeno, a criminologist, believed Manson could control these people by taking the
place of their father figures. "It wasn't a very difficult process. He was dealing with lonely insecure
people in need of a father figure, people who didn't have much ego to begin with. What he did, in
effect, was to tear down that ego and substitute himself, thus gaining enormous control over his
followers." To his girls, Charles Manson was the man of their dreams, their knight in shining armor.
Manson had replaced these girls' father figure, placing himself at the center of their lives. Manson
soon recruited dozens of girls into his "Family." Many outsiders found him to be a persistent
recruiter who came on strong with every girl he met, a narcist who treated his followers like
possessions and barely showed any real affection to them. When a new girl was recruited, the
biggest problem was polyamory. He preached that women should be submissive to men. Shockingly,
these girls came to accept his ideas. Obviously, Charles had an unbelievable talent of manipulating
people. Per online sources, Paul Watkins, said the following quote: "I lived with Charlie for about
one year straight and on and off for two years. I know Charlie. I know him inside and out. I became
Charlie. Everything I once was, was Charlie. There was nothing left of me anymore.

Since his birth, Charles Manson has led a life of rejection, jealousy, and incarceration. Due to his
absent parents, he began a life of crime which eventually led him to manipulate a group of people
who were responsible for multiple deaths and assaults in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Charles
Manson's hectic childhood led to his life of crime and caused his imprisonment for life. The
youngest of three children, Kathleen Maddox grew up in a strict religious household in Ashland
Kentucky where no make up was allowed and God's will dominated over everything. Anything such
as looking at the opposite sex, smoking, cursing, or even showing extra skin than necessary was
considered sinful and wrong to her parents and grandparents. Although she ... Show more content on

Instead of starting a new life and trying to do good, Charles Manson turned back to his life of crime
to make a living. Before his own eyes, Manson was become his mother Kathleen and acting out.
Manson robbed a grocery store, stole multiple things, and got involved with the wrong crowd of
people. Soon enough he was arrested for stealing a bike and stood in front of a judge. The judge
declared that he cannot be off on his own and had to get in contact with his mother. Kathleen told
the judge once again that she couldn't take care of him except this time the judge was sympathetic.
Knowing how hard it was for Charles Manson to fit in at the last reform school, he decided to send
him to Father Flanagan's Boys Town. After only a couple of days, Manson and another kid ran away
from this new place. Together the two of them went on a bunch of crime sprees including wrecking
a car. Eventually the two young boys got caught and this time the judge wasn't sympathetic.
Kathleen had no say at this point and Charles was put into the Indianapolis Juvenile Home. Just like
before, Manson escaped and this time brought numerous juveniles along with him. He went straight
to stealing a car and was back in custody less than two hours later. The Indianapolis justice system
was fed up with Manson's antics and he landed himself a one way ticket to the county jail. In only

The first killing was the murder of The Manson Family friend Gary Hinman. Gary would let

his members Beausoleil, Mary Brunner, and Susan Atkins over to Gary's house try and to convince
him to give them money. Gary didn't cooperate and the three members of the family kept Gary

ended up murdering Gary Hinman by stabbing him with a knife twice in the chest. Once he was
done he wrote on the wall with Gary's blood the words "Political Piggy" and but a Black Panthers

Charles Manson : The Name Of Charles Mansonson
The name of Charles Manson When you hear the name Charles Manson, you think of one the
wickedest man to ever walk the face of the earth. His name is well known to the hearts of America;
not in a positive way. More in a heart breaking and terrified way. Manson's childhood, his behavior,
his ability to control and manipulate people the way he did is something no one could understand.
He organized a cult like family and constructed them to do brutal things to several people. Here is
one question for the brain, is Charles Manson a killer? Did he use his looks to prey on young
innocent girls to do his dirty work? November 12,1934, 16–year–old prostitute Kathleen Maddox
gave birth to a baby boy (Allan,2010). When the baby was born she didn't know what to name him,
so she gave him the name "No Name" Maddox for the first weeks of his life. Soon after he was
given the name Charles Milles Maddox. Charles did not know who his father was, but Kathleen
would soon run of and get married to a man by the name of William Eugene Manson, who would
give Charles his last name of Manson. Charles would use the last name Manson for the remainder of
his life. Charles would go neglected for majority of his childhood life by his mother who was a
severe alcoholic. During his life, Charles was tossed from relatives and foster homes. Kathleen and
Charles were soon abandoned by William years after there marriage which caused Kathleen to go in
deep depression. Only a teenager, Kathleen tried numerous

Diagnosing Charles Manson Born into a life of poverty, despair, and recklessness, Charles Manson
did not have the greatest upbringing. His mother was a sixteen year old prostitute who was unsure of
who was Charles' father. He did not have a father figure in his life whatsoever. His mother was an
alcoholic all his life who never sought treatment for herself. Alcoholism has been deemed a "family
disease" for a reason...because those dealing with family members who are alcoholics tend to have
harsh emotional problems. This can lead to destructive behavior throughout a person's life,

This is when a person has "delusions of inflated power or worth," such as when Manson thinks he is
God to his cult. Because of the information and research I have thus far, I could definitely associate
Charles Manson with yet another diagnosis of a mental disorder. Using the DSM again, it shows that
the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder is met by Manson. The symptoms of this
disorder are those such as failure to conform to social norms, conning others, impulsivity,
aggressiveness, recklessness, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. All of these can basically be
made into adjectives that describe Manson perfectly. He never conformed to the "norms" of society
because he was always an outcast. He partook in abnormal behaviors. As mentioned previously, he
conned a woman out of $700, so conning people is another criteria met for this disorder. While in
prison, Manson would regularly attack prison guards and other prisoners so aggression is met as
well. He was obviously reckless and irresponsible considering he was a murderer. When interviewed
about his murders he showed no signs of remorse and even laughed inappropriately. These are all
symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder. The other criteria for this disorder is that one must
have been acting in such manner since age of fifteen, at least be eighteen at time of diagnosis, and
these symptoms must be present at all times, not just in schizophrenic episodes (4th ed., text

"Charles Manson was an illegitimate, unplanned child, born to a 16–year–old mother. His mother
was irresponsible, into drugs and criminal activity, and unable to care for a child. She reportedly
sold him when he was a young child for a pitcher of beer" (Henderson). Sounds like an amazing
childhood, right. Wrong. Charles Manson was bounced around from house to house, and because of
that, his childhood was not that great. Because of his nerve wrecking childhood, Manson was bound
to be a criminal. As the years went by and time took its course, Manson decided that he wanted to
take a new turn in life and become a star.

Manson was soon introduced. Now, Manson had already spent 12 years of his life in prison (Jolly).
"His offenses ranged from pimping and the theft of government checks to grand theft auto and rape"
(Henderson). During the time that Dennis and Charlie started talking and hanging out more during
his stay at the Wilson home. They soon found out that both of them had a passion for music. Once
Wilson and Manson started discussing about their music abilities, they started writing music

they told me they too had a guru, a guy named Charlie who'd recently come out of jail after 12
years. He drifted into crime, but when I met him, I found he had great musical ideas. We are writing
together now. He's dumb, in some ways, but I accept his approach and have learnt from him" (Jolly).

The Causes Of Charles Manson
When cults come to mind people think of the Manson family and heaven's gate. Before we learn
about how cults, clans and communities pertain to sociology we first must understand how they
work, what they did and how people joined these groups.
The Manson family was a cult in 1960 that where mostly not violent. But in 1969 was when eh
Manson family started their killing spree. Manson thought that the apocalypse was going to happen
in the form of a race war. (Webb, S. (2017, June 23). Who is Charles Manson? American mass

Essay On Charles Manson
How does someone get sentenced to death row for murders without actually killing a single person?
For someone whose specialty is brainwashing and cult–building, this is quite the simple feat. In the
words of Charles Manson, "We're not in Wonderland anymore Alice." To even remotely comprehend
the mind of Manson, one must dive headfirst into his turbulent past, multiple murders, and current
imprisonment. Troubled childhoods lie behind many criminals, and Charles Manson is no different.
On November 12, 1934, Charles Milles Manson was born to a drug abusing, criminally involved,
16–year–old girl in Ohio ("Manson Family"). She is said to have sold him for a single pitcher of
beer (Henderson). As one can expect, this was only the start of an extremely troubled life. By the
age of 9, Manson had gone from residing with family members to living at reformatory schools. He
was beginning to follow in his mother's footsteps, also committing his first theft at this age
(Henderson). Young Charlie's life would take an even sharper downward turn as the years
progressed. Most know Manson as a notorious cult leader who inspired his followers to do the
unthinkable. Upon reaching age 34, Manson chose to start a "family" (Abbas). However, this one
would be far different than any other family to ever exist. He pushed the boundaries of sanity for
several young girls whom he lured into his evil movement. Charles believed that an enormous race
war would bring about the end of the world. He predicted that African Americans would prevail.
During all of this, he planned to hide out with his family in the desert, only to emerge and take over
the world because he thought the African Americans would be unfit to lead themselves. He even
referenced himself as Jesus Christ incarnate (Abbas). All of Manson's predictions came from what
he thought were hidden messages in the song "Helter Skelter" by the Beetles (Henderson). It seemed
as if all that was left to do was wait for the end to come. When the apocalypse failed to start,
Manson took matters into his own hands. His master plan was to send members of his cult to
commit murders, thinking African Americans would be blamed, thus the start of the race war. The
first round of murders are

Charles Manson became known worldwide after helping commit numerous gruesome murders near

The owner of the secluded home in Benedict Canyon was Roman Polanski, but Terry Melcher lived
in the house before he sold it to Polanski. Six people were brutally murdered that night, including a
woman who was eight months pregnant, all on Manson's command ("Manson Family Murders").
Afterwards, Manson was delighted his only reason for killing everyone in the house was because it
was once home to Terry Melcher. Melcher was a record producer who once denied to work with
Manson many years before. Consequently Melcher's denial made him another victim of Charles
Manson's death list. Upon entering the house the police were shocked. "The police found a number
of bizarre clues: DEATH TO PIGS, and RISE on the living room walls, and the misspelled
HEALTER SKELTER on the refrigerator door, all printed in the blood of one of the victims"
(Bugliosi 160).
Manson was happy with the death of those six people, but was upset with the sloppiness of that
night's murders ("Manson Family Murders"). "Last night was too messy, Manson told the group
when they assembled back into their bunkhouse. This time I'm going to show you how to do it"
(Bugliosi 355). After driving for hours Manson stopped at a house in the suburbs. He had his

Charles Manson 's Influence On Society
In almost all lists of famous serial killers, probably the most mentioned among them all is Charles
Manson. With more than 35 documented killings and a cult of disciple murderers, Manson has
become the living embodiment that the devil walks on earth. But what has made this troubled youth
into one of America's feared monsters?
Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934. Named Charles Milles Maddox, he was born and
raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, to a teenage mom, Kathleen Maddox. His alcoholic and prostitute mother
soon married William Manson but the marriage was short–lived. His mother did not want anything
to do with the boy and this pushed him to live on the streets and fend for himself. Pretty soon,
Charles turned to petty crime to survive. By the time he was in his late teens, Charles was
introduced to a life in prison.
Charles met a girl in 1955 whom he married and brought with him to California. There, she became
pregnant and Charles was back into his life of petty crimes leading him to another time in prison in
1956. The young wife eventually left him after a year. After being released, Charles turned to other
crimes such as pimping, using stolen checks and conning a woman of her money. While on
probation, he met a prostitute Candy Stevens, who bore him a second child. By 1960, he was
arrested for his crimes and was sent to a Washington penitentiary.
In prison, troubles never escaped Charles. He once raped a fellow male inmate and he was

Charles Manson's Murders The Charles Manson's case is one of the most infamous cases in the
United States. Who is Charles Manson? Charles Manson killed people out of hate, but he never laid

and being brutalized (Aradillas 2017). Being sent to all the boys did not stop him from committing
crimes, by 1951 he was sent to prison for a more serious burglary charge and later on had been sent

The 1960s was a decade of revolution focusing on establishing peace and love throughout the world.
Throughout these ten years many social and cultural changes occurred leaving the United States to
be young and vibrant. In 1969 much of the youth was embraced in the "Summer of Love" focusing
on peace, love, and peaceful protests. Individuals were advocating for their personal beliefs in a way
they never did before. However this all came to a crashing end in August when eight influential
individuals were found murdered in their own homes. On August 9, actress Sharon Tate, Wojciech
Frykowski, Abigail Folger, and Jay Sebring were found at Tate's home and one day later, Leno and
Rosemary LaBianca were found murdered in the same brutal fashion. In 1971 jurors found cult
leader Charles Manson and three of his followers guilty of all murders and was sentenced to life
imprisonment. This would have been Manson's third imprisonment. Although Manson was a sadistic
psychopath, he was heavily influenced by music, especially the Beatles. Cult followers claim
Manson often quoted "the Beatles and the Bible", as he believed that the Beatles were prophets of
God. In turn, many songs from The White Album and the Beatles themselves drastically played into
Manson's perspective on life and eventually the Tate–LaBianca murders of 1969. Charles Manson

PERSONALITY ANALYSIS OF CHARLES MANSON Introduction Manson is a convicted serial
killer who has become an icon of evil. In the late 1960s, Manson founded a hippie cult group known
as "the Family" whom he manipulated into brutally killing others on his behalf. "Helter Skelter,"
Manson believed, was going to occur in the summer of 1969 when blacks were going to rise up and
slaughter all the white people. He told his followers that they would be saved because they would go
underground, literally, by traveling to an underground city of gold located in Death Valley. However,

He then received a 10 year suspended sentence for attempting to cash a stolen check. During this
time he married another girl before being arrested again in 1960 for crossing state lines for
prostitution. His sentence this time was for 7 years at McNeil Island Penitentiary in Washington and
then was transferred back to Terminal Island in California. During this time, his wife divorced him
after giving birth to his second son named Charles Luther Manson Jr. He spent his prison time
learning to play guitar and studied Scientology. After being released in 1967, he traveled to San
Francisco. There he met a woman named Mary Brunner and moved into her apartment. She soon
fell in love with Manson and he used that to manipulate her into sleeping around with multiple
women. She eventually lost her job at UC Berkeley, fell deep into drug use, and began travelling
with Manson. Mary Brunner became an important part in his development of the "Manson Family".
Lynette Fromme was the first to join the family. The three lived together on the streets of San

manipulative tendencies helped fuel his status as a prophet. In 1968 after time spent travelling, the
group ended up living in Chatsworth, California on Spahn Ranch. Here Brunner gave birth to his

Judgment, labeled a Satanist cult by the media, was founded in 1963 by Robert DeGrimston, a
former Scientologist. The basis of this religion was the book of Matthew of the New Testament, and
it began as a mixture of Zoroastrianism and Scientology. The name "The Process" refers to the
"changes necessary to avoid the end of the world with its associated judgment." Processeans
worship Jehovah, Lucifer, and Satan ("Process" par.17). Even though The Process fervently denies
that Charles Manson was ever a member, many ideas from his philosophy parallel Process concepts.
Both Manson and The Process taught of a violent and unavoidable Armageddon in which all but the
few chosen ones would be destroyed, and both thought that motorcycle gangs would be the "troops

Eye Catching Title: Some Information About Said Title
Introduction
On August 9th, 1969, popular film actress Sharon Tate was at home at 10050 Cielo Drive, Los
Angeles, California. She, her unborn baby, three friends, and a visitor to the house were all shot or
stabbed that night, and found the next morning. The brutal murders were committed by the infamous
"Manson Family," a cult led by none other than Charles Manson. Manson has been the inspiration
for many pop culture references, appearing on American Horror Story: Cult, the comedy film
Manson Family Vacation, and Quentin Tarantino's upcoming project, reportedly about the Tate
murder in 1969. Manson himself, as well as the members of his 'family,' were given the death
penalty in 1971. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This amendment covers "cruel and unusual punishment," which many people argue the death
penalty is. The wording of the amendment states that "excessive bail shall not be required, nor
excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted" (Amendment VIII, U.S.
Constitution). The aforementioned loophole in this amendment, however, is that it does not
specifically define what punishments are, or are not, 'cruel and unusual.'
Briefly, in the 1970s, the Supreme Court ruled that "the death penalty in most states was unlawful
because it was being imposed in a discriminatory fashion. After this ruling, states had to change
their death penalty procedures to satisfy the Court that they impose the death penalty fairly" (Gale
Student Resources in Context). The ruling was revoked later, however, and death penalties have
been handed out since then. There are 19 states that have abolished the death penalty within their
own state, which areincluding Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine,
Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North
Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and

The name of Charles Manson
When you hear the name Charles Manson, you think of one the wickedest man to ever walk the face
of the earth. His name is well known in the hearts of America; not in a positive way. More in a
heartbreaking and terrified way. Manson's childhood, his behavior, his ability to control and
manipulate people the way he did is something no one could understand. He organized a cult like
family and constructed them to do brutal things to several people. Here is one question for the brain,
is Charles Manson a killer? Did he use his looks to prey on young innocent girls to do his dirty
work?
November 12,1934, 16–year–old prostitute Kathleen Maddox gave birth to a baby boy (Allan,2010).
When the baby was born, she didn't know what to name him, so she gave him the name "No Name"
Maddox for the first weeks of his life. Soon after he was given the name Charles Milles Maddox.
Charles did not know who his father was, but Kathleen would soon run off and get married to a man
by the name of William Eugene Manson, who would give Charles his last name of Manson. Charles
would use the last name Manson for the remainder of his life. Charles would go neglected for the
majority of his childhood life by his mother who was a severe alcoholic. During his life, Charles
was tossed from relatives and foster homes. Kathleen and Charles were soon abandoned by William
years after their marriage which caused Kathleen to go into deep depression.
Only a teenager, Kathleen tried

Charles Manson Psychology
Charles Manson is an example of a leader who used his power for pure evil. Charles Manson was
never actually found guilty of the murders committed in 1969. He was found guilty of first degree
murder of directing the murders. He was originally sentenced to death but in 1972 the California
Supreme Court invalidated all outstanding death sentences to life in prison.
To this day, Charles Manson still has a loyal "cult–like" following. His leadership style was to prey
on those who struggled in life, those who did not have a solid life and were looking for direction.
Once he was able to reach them he would use coercion, fear and an array of drugs to keep them
loyal.
Manson had a hard childhood and it is believed that it was those psychological ... Show more

He lead the group first to San Francisco and then to a deserted ranch in The Fernando Valley. The
group was about a hundred people and would soon start referring to themselves as the "Manson
Family." This was the family many of them never had and so the desire to belong made them loyal
to Manson.
There was a core group within the Manson Family. It was composed of two young men, Charles
"Tex" Watson, Bobby Beausoleil, and four young impressionable women. It would be this group
that Manson was able to brainwash to commit murders. They believed he was Jesus and that they
were in an "apocalyptic war". He was also able to get them to carry out the murders. Manson was at
both homes but he never committed the acts of murder himself, having enough power over his core
members that he could have them carry out his plans.
On July 25, 1969 the Manson Family members murdered an acquaintance, Gary Hinman over
money. August 8th, 1969 the Manson Family would murder again. This time they murdered an eight
and half month pregnant actress, Sharon Tate in her home. They also murdered four others at the
home. Then on August 9th, 1969 they murdered Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in their home. These
are the only murders that ever went to trial but there are 35 other suspected deaths linked to the

Analysis Of The Yellow Pill By Charles Manson
Charles Manson was a man behind the deaths of nine people in the late 1960s. He was a cult leader
manipulated many of his followers to kill innocent people for many absurd reasons: that he was the
second coming, that he was both Christ and the Devil, and that Armageddon was coming. Most
people saw Manson as a madman. A select few, however, admired Manson for his cunning; to his
own followers and in his own eyes, Manson was extremely clever, rather than being insane. In Rog
Phillips' "The Yellow Pill," two men, by the names of Dr. Elton and Jerry Bocek, are either in a
psychiatrist's office or in the vacuum of space. Jerry continuously tries to convince Dr. Elton that
they are in a spaceship, yet Elton thinks that Jerry is insane. Evidence throughout "The Yellow Pill"
shows that the two men are clearly on Earth, but that does not necessarily mean that Jerry is insane.
Like Charles Manson, Jerry is simply well versed in manipulation; he did not have a skewed sense
of reality at all.
One of many flaws in Jerry's elaborate lie was when he first visited Dr. Elton's office. He was bound
by a straightjacket and was guided by policemen, but he claimed to be tied up in ropes and
surrounded by gearlockers. After a quick session with Jerry, Elton ordered the officers to take Jerry
away and they did as they were told. However, when he left, Jerry had no explanation for how the
policemen, supposedly inanimate gear lockers, were capable of taking him away from Elton's office.

Charles Miles Maddox was born on November 12th 1934 in Cincinnati Ohio to Kathleen Maddox. A
few years after Charles was born Kathleen had married William Manson who gave Charles his last
name. The marriage did not last long, after the divorce Charles was sent to an all boy school. At an
early age Manson showed signs of a serial killer, in elementary he would gain followers of mostly
gullible girls and tell them to attack other girls but when teachers questioned Manson he would tell
them that the girls had done the acts on their own will and he had nothing to do with it.
Charles Manson's teen years and 20's had been mostly served behind bars for petty crimes. At age
32 Charles Manson was released from a ten year sentence and was eager to create a family. Charles
had pulled in multiple girls who had been runaways or lonely girls who just wanted to be a part of
something bigger. Later as the family grew Manson had also pulled in men. The more the men

Final Case Study Topic and Outline Joe Cantu CRJ 308 Instructor: David Ojo December 8, 2014
Final Case Study Topic and Outline INTRODUCTION: For my final case study, I have chosen to
review the case of the infamous Charles Manson. Still decades after his involvement with the
gruesome Tate murders, his notoriety lives on. Society has presented him as the poster boy for serial
killing psychopath, even though he was said to do nothing more than influence the behaviors of his
so called "family". In this study I will aim to address what drove the monster to his delusional ways
and how he became the voice of reason to those around him. MANSON'S EARLY LIFE: Manson's
upbringing suggests environmental influence being cause for his actions. Manson was raised with no

Everyone he believed that he could trust rejected him. His mother was in prison and he was forced
to live with family members. The relationship between he and they never bonded and he chose a
delinquent lifestyle resulting in him living and escaping from many different institutions. Manson
had no social model to teach him how to live his life and was left to his own demise. THEORIES to
SUPPORT BEHAVIOR: Erickson's theory of psychosocial development states that each stage of life
is a turning point and has its own challenges. If the challenge is met, a feeling of self confidence
occurs; if it is not met, a feeling of inadequacy occurs(Gilbreth, 2009) . He was faced with failure
after failure in life and had very little social interaction. According to this theory, Manson would
have grown up with a very strong sense of inadequacy, which would guide him to overcompensate
in later years. Abraham Maslow's theory best proves the decline of Manson's mental health. Manson
never fulfilled any of the categories for Maslow's hierarchy of needs. As a child he often stole his
meals. He bounced from home to home, and his family showed him no love or

Charles Manson Traits
Traits of a Cult Leader: Charles Manson
In 1969, Charles Manson instructed a few of his cult followers to commit a series of murders in
Beverly Hills. The victims killed by Manson's followers were Abigail Ann Folger, Wojciech
Frykowski, Steven Earl Parent, Sharon Tate Polanski, Jay Sebring and Leno and Rosemary
LaBianca. These murders were highly publicized due to the fascinating story behind them and
people involved. "Helter Skelter" was written by Vincent Bugliosi (a prosecutor during the Manson
trial) and Curt Gentry, and gives a first–person description on the Manson murders and the trial that
followed. In this book, Bugliosi portrays Manson as a delusional, manipulative, and intelligent, three
traits that gave him the ability to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had visions and thoughts that displayed signs of paranoia and insanity. An example of this is
shown in his appearance before his trial; "He completely shaved his head, because, he told
newsmen, 'I am the Devil and the Devil always has a bald head'" (416). Most people, whether
believing in the Devil or not, would consider what Manson said nonsensical. Furthermore, not even
those who believe in the Devil would not assume that he was bald, and would certainly not shave
their heads to have a similar appearance as him. Another example of Manson's delusional behavior
is when he claims that his "Family" are the chosen people. "The chosen people were The Family,
Charlie said. He would lead them to the desert, where they would multiply until they numbered
144,000. He got this, Poston said, 'from reading things in the Bible, from Revelations'" (369). When
Manson read the Bible, he believed that certain prophecies were directed towards him and he was
the one to fulfill them. Charles Manson also believed that the Beatles song "Helter Skelter" was a
prophecy of an apocalyptic war in which racist and non–racist whites essentially exterminate one
another over the poor treatment of

(Florez). With this being said, this goal is similar to what Grenouille and Manson wanted, to be
remembered even after death. Grenouilles' goal was to require the ultimate scent to be accepted by
his town or anywhere else he goes. Mansons goal was to let the world be shocked by the crimes that
he and his group committed. Perhaps that this trait does influence serial killers to kill freely, but
when doing such acts the question someone must ask is the murderer regret what they have done? If
someone has killed another person for a reason, for example self–defense, then that is a common
murder to report, but in Grenouilles' and Mansons' case they did not report the murder because they
felt as though that killing the victim was necessary. "Psychopaths tend to not feel any emotion that is
related to guilt..." (Uncategorized). In Perfume the killings that Grenouille committed goes beyond
of what Manson has done up until both of their deaths. However, the reason why they killed in the
first place do compare because of their childhood with the way they were both raised and how
society has treated them. Although their stories before they became serial killers are similar, there is
not anything else to compare the two on because Grenouille was smart, sneaky, and worked by
himself with each kill when Manson on the other hand trusted individuals to kill with him and those
same individuals would later

The Comparisons of Charles Manson to Transcendental...
The Comparisons of Charles Manson to Transcendental Philosophy Charles Manson and various
members of his "family" brutally killed several people from the Tate and LaBianca family on two
separate occasions . The purposes of these killings are misunderstood by today's society, when
ignoring Manson's philosophy. Although Manson never killed anyone, he went to prison in 1969 for
masterminding the operation. Today's society has labeled Charles Manson as a mass–murderer who
had no purpose through his cause. However, society overlooks the goal of Manson's plan, which
included creating a better society. Manson continues to preach his cause through repeated parole

Therefore, Manson began to prepare for helter skelter by informing his family. Instead of waiting for
helter skelter, Manson wanted to prevent it by creating a utopian society that excluded the African–
American race. Above and beyond individuality, Manson felt that four important things needed
preserved: air, water, trees, and animals. Mr. Manson commonly refers to these things as AWTA, and
claims that his "family gave their lives to unite the brothers and sisters of the world" with these
standards. The use of euphorics by Manson and his followers, provided an enhanced sense of
individuality in an environment interacting with nature. Manson commonly used music to get his
message out to other people, and generally, he would end a session with songs prophesizing helter
skelter orchestrated by his guitar. Today, many of Manson's songs have been released under the
Guns and Roses album name. This angers Manson and extends his argument that the rights of an
individual are no longer safe. In his 1986 Parole Hearing Statement, Manson talks about how his
"family wanted to stop a war and turn the government and world to peace." He goes farther to say
that his masterplan included preserving ATWA, which would extend to enhance the individual. Both
of these ideals were important to the transcendentalists of the 19th century. The belief that the
individual, not the government was key to society, was important to the transcendental philosophy.

Charles Manson is a well–known American criminal and musician. Although he was best known as

Manson started in a world where the chances that his basic physiological needs where most likely

he spent the majority of his youth being shuffled from home to home and then in detention. He

would be difficult to achieve without first fulfilling the lower levels. Rogerian theory focuses on
coming to terms with our own reality and not trying to be someone whom we are not and in some
ways, it seems like Manson has come to terms with who he is, and yet, he is also living up to the
expectation of being nothing set for him by others. The disadvantage of this theory is that he has
such notoriety, it would be difficult for him to find a therapist who could refrain from being bias one
way or the other; further, he would have to trust and be honest and give an honest view, which,
given his mental health, might be skewed even if he is being honest in his mind. The assessment tool
best suited for Manson would be interview. Although the patient is capable of lying, the validity of
the interview can be proven through the success or failure of the treatment (Friedman & Schustack,
2012). The reason I would choose this method is that just as with this method, Manson

A Murderer's Lifestyle The name Charles Manson still brings terror to many people in this day of
age. Manson was now and then known as an evil criminal who was held accountable for the murders
of innocent people in the late 1960's. The early childhood and persona of Manson led him to
brainwashing a group of people known as the " Manson Family", who committed his murders.
Manson is seen as a notorious killer without actually killing anyone himself. Charles Milles Maddox
was born to a young sixteen year old named Kathleen Maddox who gave birth to him on November
12, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio. At birth he wasn't given an actual name and was known as "no name

dry cleaning business. The child was then named Charles Milles Maddox . Though there is no
evidence that Charles had his biological father involved in his life, there's records that show that
Kathleen filed a paternity suit against a man named Colonel Walker Henderson Scott, when she was
charged for a robbery in 1939. With his mother in jail, Manson moved in with his aunt Glenna, uncle
Bill and cousin Jo Ann in McMechen, West Virginia. Since the very beginning Manson caused
Glenna and Bill trouble. Charlies cousin Jo Ann who was a few years older than him, described him
as being a liar and always wanting attention. In some cases he would blame others for the things he

Charles Manson Essay
"Mr. Scott, Ms. Maddox? Here's your baby boy!" These were the first words that
Kathleen Maddox heard when she gave birth to a healthy baby boy, to whom she would later give
her maiden name. Charles Milles Manson, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 11, 1934 (FAQ's
1), seemed to be a normal child, when, in fact, he was trouble from the start. The two had not
planned to have a child, and certainly did not expect him to end up being the most notorious killer of
the 20th century. In the summer of 1969, Manson made the residents of California afraid to leave
their homes (Fillmer 2). Charlie Manson committed grotesque crimes, controlled his trials, and now
resides in the California State Prison (FAQ's 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this isolation, with no access to newspapers or even clocks, the Family listened to Charlie speak
on theories such as Buddhism, the Beatles, Scientology, and Adolf Hitler (whom Manson refers to as
"a tuned in guy") (Klinghoffer 1). Regarding himself as Jesus Christ reincarnated, he
promised to lead the drug induced teens to a hold out in Death Valley through which they would
"all descend to live with a secret underground civilization (Klinghoffer 1)." Manson's
Family consisted mainly of Bobby Beausoleil, Mary Theresa Brunner, Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie
Van Houten, Linda Kasabian, Susan Atkins, Charles "Tex" Watson, Suzan LaBerge, and
Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme (Nelson 1). There were as many as 50 people in the Family
at a time, but these nine and Manson remained constant. These were also the ones who did the
killing.
When Manson met with his followers, he would sometimes sit on a rock and preach to them, acting
as their God. He would tell them that the reason they were at this ranch jam–packed with stolen
goods was to prepare them for Helter Skelter, the nuclear and race wars Manson predicted
("Charlie" 1). He derived the title Helter Skelter from the Beatles song off their White
Album (Bugliosi 28). An excerpt from the lyrics of this song are: "Helter skelter, helter

Charles Manson Essay
Charles Manson Charles Manson has been named "the most dangerous man alive." Society referred
to him as the devil. They believed he was the reason society was so bad in the 1960's. The 1950's to
the 1960's was uncontrollably filled with violence. Our culture was shattered by the assassinations
of President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. At the same
time, body bags from Vietnam were building up from a war that was tearing our nation apart. Riots
and antiwar protesters marched across America. Many people worried that the US was getting out of
control. "The Sixties ended abruptly on August 9, 1969..." wrote Didon in The White Album. On
August 8,1969, director Roman Polaski's housekeeper found ... Show more content on

At the age of twenty–six Charles Manson was sent to the US penitentiary. By 1959 Charles had been
committed of rape, drug use, pimping, stealing, and fraud. Manson was emotionally insecure and
was lacking attention. Manson had obsessions with music; the Beatles and his guitar. He hoped that
in his future he would be employed in the music business. (UMKC) On March 21,1967, Charles was
released from prison for the second time. The 32 year old went to San Francisco. Charles Manson
protested his freedom, "Oh no, I can't go outside there..." "I know I won't be able to adjust to the
world, not after I spent all of my life locked up and my mind was free. I am content to stay in the
penitentiary, just to take my walks around the yard in the sunshine and play my guitar." The prison
guards ignored Manson and unleashed the evil man into society once again. For Charles Manson,
religion was a strong force that he used to manipulate the minds of his followers. When Charles was
34 he decided he wanted a family. Charles started to attract a group of followers, many of whom
were young women with troubled lives, rebelling against their parents and society. All of Charlie's
followers were weak willed people who were naïve, gullible, and easy to lead. Manson used LSD
and amphetamines to alter his followers personalities. (Manson) Manson's "family" referred to
Charles as "God" or "Jesus Christ." The family traveled around California trying to find

Charles Manson 's ' The Night Of The Tate Labianca Murders '
Charles Manson was one of the most well known murderers that didn 't actually kill anyone, instead
he had people do it for him. Helter Skelter or other known as Charles Manson brainwashed people
that are part of his "family" into thinking they should kill innocent people just because he told them
to. Part 1 of Helter Skelter was mainly about the people involved in his "family" that he had created,
the detectives that were in charge of the case, and the victims that were murdered and he briefly
touches on what happened the night of August 9th, 1969. The author talks about the night of the
murders and what exactly went on the night of the Tate–LaBianca murders. He also goes into depth
about some of the people that were murdered at 10050 Cielo Drive, like Jay Sebring, who was a
hairstylist and Abigail Folger who was an heiress to the Folger coffee fortune, then he talks about
Leno and Rosemary LaBianca who were the owners and founders of Wholesale Grocery Company.
Part 2 of the book was focused a lot on the girls in the Manson family even though it was titled "The
Killers", it even touched on the Hinman murder that had occurred before the Tate–LaBianca
murders. Susan Atkins, aka Sadie Mae Glutz was a big part in this chapter/part because she gave the
detectives a starting place for the murders. They had taken Susan to the Sybil Brand Institute in Los
Angeles, where she had a roommate there and her name was Ronnie Howard. Susan told Ronnie
everything about the murders , but

The Psycopathic Mental and Personality Disordr of Charles...
The Psycotic and
Abstract
How we live our childhood and grow up can have an impact on adult years and determine how our
minds are in regards to right and wrong. Charles Manson lived a terrible child hood, and no child
should have to go through what he went through. This does not excuse what we do wrong, morally
or unlawfully in our adult years, but can have a terrible impact on the mind. The schools for crime
causation will help to try to understand Charles Manson, his childhood, adult live, and life of crime.
Charles Manson Charles Manson was not any ordinary man. He did not have a happy child hood,
even in his teen years, and most of his life has been spent incarcerated. The schools of crime

The ego carries out those drives, and "relates desires to practical behavioral alternatives, and the
superego determines the standards of right and wrong acquired by the personality" (Schmalleger,
2007, p. 93). This relates to Charles Manson because he could only see past his needs and interests.
"People who lack fully developed superegos are often called psychopaths or sociopaths to indicate
that they cannot see beyond their own interests" (Schmalleger, 2007, p. 93). Manson had a plan and
he was determined to see it through. Again, this comes down to the psychopath in Manson. It al
leads back to Armageddon and not living in the real world. The main purpose for Charles Manson
and the Family to do the gruesome murders was because of his plans to inherit the earth as the world
ruler. Charles Manson was a smart man. Although his child hood was too horrible for any child to go
through, Manson had enough sense to create a plan to start the next world war, that he studied
Scientology and hypnosis. "Charles Manson, having grown up in reform schools and penitentiaries,
was trained by professional criminal minds" (Lerma, 2006, p. 1). Manson realized that he could use
scientology to his advantage, so he studied it and found a useful weapon. According to Arnie Lerma,
(2006): What cannot be debated is that there was something in Scientology that a serial killer
criminal mind found very appealing, useful...it was a TOOL that empowered him, that provided

Jim Jones And Charles Manson Persuasion
Cults
Two of America's most famous cult leaders are Jim Jones and Charles Manson, they are powerful
leaders that drove their followers to commit insanely violent, and crazy acts. Today, many people
wonder what gave those men such power to influence their followers to commit crimes.
Jim Jones, for example, was a visionary and he used religion to influence his followers to join his
"community". Jones persuasion was highly successful among the homeless, dispossessed, lonely,
and lower–middle–class. These individuals were drawn in large numbers to the Peoples Temple.
Using reams of personal documents and types of propaganda to recruit more people to Jonestown.
Jonestown gave them fellowship, a dream of social justice, social services clinics for free health
care, drug rehabs, legal aid, and a sense of purpose. Jones followers gave him all their worldly
possessions, money, and all the power he needed even though he was just as average as his
followers. Jones didn't start out as this powerful leader he came to be , he was born into a bitterly
unhappy home in Crete, Indiana. "Jones himself was also a drug addict, a sexual predator among
both sexes, and somehow he accomplished to fake to a large amount of people that he was against
everything that he was still doing in secret" (George Russell). Jim eventually found his place as a
member of a small Christian church in his home town. Jones said he joined the religion because he
never felt accepted, and he was drawn to fellow outcasts. He soon acquired a gift for charismatic
preaching and took it to neighborhoods that were populated primarily by African American in the
1950s. It was in these neighborhoods where he preached racial inclusion and gathered a mixed–race
congregation. This did not sit well with many people in this era before the civil rights movement,
and it added to his progressive reputation. He became head of the Indianapolis Human Rights
Commission, which is a large reason he would recruit different ethnicities to join his temple. Jones
also in order to get more members used informers in his audiences to get information out of the
unsuspecting faithful that he could reveal as evidence of clairvoyant powers, and he hired fake
invalids who would rise from

Charles Manson Cult Murders

  • 1. Charles Manson Criminology Paper Charles Manson "Helter Skelter" Criminology Professor Charles Manson "Helter Skelter" Charles Manson long and crazy life started at birth, and has not ceased since. He is still today one of the biggest icons in the murder mix, as being a serial killer. He is a man with many different powers and ways to draw people in. His long, hard, and crazy life all started with his mother, Kathleen "Kathy" Maddox. She was the youngest of three children born to Nancy and Charles Maddox, she ran away from her strict Fundamentalist Christian home when she was 15 years old to escape the cold, strict, and oppressive family (Sable, 2006). She was an alcoholic runaway at only 16 years old. She gave birth on November 12, 1934, at 4:40pm, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we may trust his memory, at least one guard incited other boys to rape and torture Manson, while the officer stood by and masturbated on the sidelines (Zayyan). In February 1951, Manson was arrested again in Beaver, Utah and sentenced for federal time because of a series of stolen cars. He started off in a minimum–security establishment, Manson assaulted another inmate in January of 1952, he was caught holding a razor blade to the boy's throat and sodomizing him (Zayyan). Manson was reclassified as "dangerous" and was transferred to a tougher lock up logging eight major disciplinary infractions, including three homosexual assaults by August of 1952 (Zayyan). He was then moved to Ohio reformatory a month later, and suddenly there he "turned" over a new leaf, becoming a "model" prisoner almost overnight, the cunning act was rewarding and he received parole in May of 1954. Following all of these crazy and different crimes in September 1955, Manson got off easy with five years probation, he celebrated by skipping a court date in Florida, and his probation was revoked, he was then picked up in Indianapolis on March 14, 1956, he was sent to the federal prison at Terminal Island, California, finally winning parole on September 30, 1958 (Zayyan). May 1, 1959 he was jailed in Los Angles, on charges of forging and cashing stolen U.S. Treasury checks, he escaped with probation which was swiftly revoked with his April 1960 ... • 5. Charles Manson Case First, I chose this case because of the reverberation of Charles Manson and his crimes. I first had knowledge of the Charles Manson case after it was referenced in the TV show, Criminal Minds, after a cult killed 7 people. Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Manson's life of crime started from as young as 10 years old. His first crime was robbing a liquor store in his home town. During his youth, he was continually sent to juvenile detention centers. However, time and time again he escaped and committed more petty crimes. In 1952, he was sent to the Federal Reformatory in Chillicothe, Ohio. Up until 1966, Manson was constantly in and out of prison. He was finally released from Terminal Island in 1967. Once out of prison, Manson made his to San Francisco with his early followers, including Mary Brunner and about 19 other women. This was the beginning of Manson's cult, The Manson Family. The Family later relocated to Spahn's Movie Ranch. After hearing The Beatles' White Album, Manson was convinced that the song "Helter Sketler" prophesied a race war between Africans Americans & Caucasians. His plan was to hide underground in Death Valley, California during the war, in which the Africans would be victorious in. However, he said the African Americans would not know how ... The members of Charles Manson's cult family were Leslie Van Houten, Bobby Beausoleil, Paul Watkins, Catherine "Gypse" Share, Mary Brunner, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabain, Steve Grogan, Patricia Krenwinkel, Charles Watson, and Squeaky Fromme. Almost all of the members came from middle working–class families and were generally happy people. Some of the members were also very religious like Charles Watson, for example, was a leader of a church youth group and enjoyed attending Sunday night services. The absence of a father, however, led some of his followers into a world of experimenting with drugs and running away. Their lost, rebellious souls found comfort in Charles Manson who became a father figure to them. 2. The 1960s was the decade of the Civil Rights Movement and of counterculture. The Civil Rights Movement saw the rise of social groups, like the Black Panther Party, who had had enough of being racially discriminated and would conduct boycotts, sit–ins, and marches in order to support their cause. Counterculture consisted of young people, known as hippies, who revolted against government agendas like the Vietnam War, and who wanted to live in a society that was based upon freedom and love. Manson believed that there would be a race war between blacks and whites and that black people would come on top. It became evident to Manson that Helter Skelter, the last final destructive war among men on the face of the earth, was not coming and it was up to him to create it. So, Manson took advantage of the counterculture happening in the 60's to led young people into believing the world would go to war and the only way to survive is to stick together. 3. In an era that sought love and peace, Manson was able to successfully manipulate the emotions of young people. Manson began his recruitment in the hippie ridden area of Haight Ashbury, San Francisco. There, Manson was able to croon his way into the minds of the young and vulnerable. Upon recruitment, Manson would tell his followers, while they were under the influence of LSD, to essentially erase everything they know about society and fill their minds with his philosophies because he was the embodiment of Jesus Christ. His followers did as he said because most of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Manson Murders One of the most heinous crimes ever committed in recent history is the Tate / LeBlanc murders masterminded by Charles Manson. Although he never physically killed anyone, Manson manipulated his followers to carry out these acts. How can a man manipulate people so easily into committing brutal murders? An even better question is how could his followers obey his command, without a second thought? I'm not sure we will ever get a definitive answer. Early history Charles Manson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Richard DeMargeno, a criminologist, believed Manson could control these people by taking the place of their father figures. "It wasn't a very difficult process. He was dealing with lonely insecure people in need of a father figure, people who didn't have much ego to begin with. What he did, in effect, was to tear down that ego and substitute himself, thus gaining enormous control over his followers." To his girls, Charles Manson was the man of their dreams, their knight in shining armor. Manson had replaced these girls' father figure, placing himself at the center of their lives. Manson soon recruited dozens of girls into his "Family." Many outsiders found him to be a persistent recruiter who came on strong with every girl he met, a narcist who treated his followers like possessions and barely showed any real affection to them. When a new girl was recruited, the biggest problem was polyamory. He preached that women should be submissive to men. Shockingly, these girls came to accept his ideas. Obviously, Charles had an unbelievable talent of manipulating people. Per online sources, Paul Watkins, said the following quote: "I lived with Charlie for about one year straight and on and off for two years. I know Charlie. I know him inside and out. I became Charlie. Everything I once was, was Charlie. There was nothing left of me anymore. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is when a person has "delusions of inflated power or worth," such as when Manson thinks he is God to his cult. Because of the information and research I have thus far, I could definitely associate Charles Manson with yet another diagnosis of a mental disorder. Using the DSM again, it shows that the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder is met by Manson. The symptoms of this disorder are those such as failure to conform to social norms, conning others, impulsivity, aggressiveness, recklessness, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. All of these can basically be made into adjectives that describe Manson perfectly. He never conformed to the "norms" of society because he was always an outcast. He partook in abnormal behaviors. As mentioned previously, he conned a woman out of $700, so conning people is another criteria met for this disorder. While in prison, Manson would regularly attack prison guards and other prisoners so aggression is met as well. He was obviously reckless and irresponsible considering he was a murderer. When interviewed about his murders he showed no signs of remorse and even laughed inappropriately. These are all symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder. The other criteria for this disorder is that one must have been acting in such manner since age of fifteen, at least be eighteen at time of diagnosis, and these symptoms must be present at all times, not just in schizophrenic episodes (4th ed., text ... • 41. Essay On Charles Manson How does someone get sentenced to death row for murders without actually killing a single person? For someone whose specialty is brainwashing and cult–building, this is quite the simple feat. In the words of Charles Manson, "We're not in Wonderland anymore Alice." To even remotely comprehend the mind of Manson, one must dive headfirst into his turbulent past, multiple murders, and current imprisonment. Troubled childhoods lie behind many criminals, and Charles Manson is no different. On November 12, 1934, Charles Milles Manson was born to a drug abusing, criminally involved, 16–year–old girl in Ohio ("Manson Family"). She is said to have sold him for a single pitcher of beer (Henderson). As one can expect, this was only the start of an extremely troubled life. By the age of 9, Manson had gone from residing with family members to living at reformatory schools. He was beginning to follow in his mother's footsteps, also committing his first theft at this age (Henderson). Young Charlie's life would take an even sharper downward turn as the years progressed. Most know Manson as a notorious cult leader who inspired his followers to do the unthinkable. Upon reaching age 34, Manson chose to start a "family" (Abbas). However, this one would be far different than any other family to ever exist. He pushed the boundaries of sanity for several young girls whom he lured into his evil movement. Charles believed that an enormous race war would bring about the end of the world. He predicted that African Americans would prevail. During all of this, he planned to hide out with his family in the desert, only to emerge and take over the world because he thought the African Americans would be unfit to lead themselves. He even referenced himself as Jesus Christ incarnate (Abbas). All of Manson's predictions came from what he thought were hidden messages in the song "Helter Skelter" by the Beetles (Henderson). It seemed as if all that was left to do was wait for the end to come. When the apocalypse failed to start, Manson took matters into his own hands. His master plan was to send members of his cult to commit murders, thinking African Americans would be blamed, thus the start of the race war. The first round of murders are ... The wording of the amendment states that "excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted" (Amendment VIII, U.S. Constitution). The aforementioned loophole in this amendment, however, is that it does not specifically define what punishments are, or are not, 'cruel and unusual.' Briefly, in the 1970s, the Supreme Court ruled that "the death penalty in most states was unlawful because it was being imposed in a discriminatory fashion. After this ruling, states had to change their death penalty procedures to satisfy the Court that they impose the death penalty fairly" (Gale Student Resources in Context). The ruling was revoked later, however, and death penalties have been handed out since then. There are 19 states that have abolished the death penalty within their own state, which areincluding Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and ... • 73. Research Paper On Charles Manson The name of Charles Manson When you hear the name Charles Manson, you think of one the wickedest man to ever walk the face of the earth. His name is well known in the hearts of America; not in a positive way. More in a heartbreaking and terrified way. Manson's childhood, his behavior, his ability to control and manipulate people the way he did is something no one could understand. He organized a cult like family and constructed them to do brutal things to several people. Here is one question for the brain, is Charles Manson a killer? Did he use his looks to prey on young innocent girls to do his dirty work? November 12,1934, 16–year–old prostitute Kathleen Maddox gave birth to a baby boy (Allan,2010). When the baby was born, she didn't know what to name him, so she gave him the name "No Name" Maddox for the first weeks of his life. Soon after he was given the name Charles Milles Maddox. Charles did not know who his father was, but Kathleen would soon run off and get married to a man by the name of William Eugene Manson, who would give Charles his last name of Manson. Charles would use the last name Manson for the remainder of his life. Charles would go neglected for the majority of his childhood life by his mother who was a severe alcoholic. During his life, Charles was tossed from relatives and foster homes. Kathleen and Charles were soon abandoned by William years after their marriage which caused Kathleen to go into deep depression. • 77. Charles Manson Psychology Charles Manson is an example of a leader who used his power for pure evil. Charles Manson was never actually found guilty of the murders committed in 1969. He was found guilty of first degree murder of directing the murders. He was originally sentenced to death but in 1972 the California Supreme Court invalidated all outstanding death sentences to life in prison. To this day, Charles Manson still has a loyal "cult–like" following. His leadership style was to prey on those who struggled in life, those who did not have a solid life and were looking for direction. Once he was able to reach them he would use coercion, fear and an array of drugs to keep them loyal. Manson had a hard childhood and it is believed that it was those psychological ... The group was about a hundred people and would soon start referring to themselves as the "Manson Family." This was the family many of them never had and so the desire to belong made them loyal to Manson. There was a core group within the Manson Family. It was composed of two young men, Charles "Tex" Watson, Bobby Beausoleil, and four young impressionable women. It would be this group that Manson was able to brainwash to commit murders. They believed he was Jesus and that they were in an "apocalyptic war". He was also able to get them to carry out the murders. Manson was at both homes but he never committed the acts of murder himself, having enough power over his core members that he could have them carry out his plans. On July 25, 1969 the Manson Family members murdered an acquaintance, Gary Hinman over money. August 8th, 1969 the Manson Family would murder again. This time they murdered an eight and half month pregnant actress, Sharon Tate in her home. They also murdered four others at the home. Then on August 9th, 1969 they murdered Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in their home. These are the only murders that ever went to trial but there are 35 other suspected deaths linked to the Manson ... • 81. Analysis Of The Yellow Pill By Charles Manson Charles Manson was a man behind the deaths of nine people in the late 1960s. He was a cult leader manipulated many of his followers to kill innocent people for many absurd reasons: that he was the second coming, that he was both Christ and the Devil, and that Armageddon was coming. Most people saw Manson as a madman. A select few, however, admired Manson for his cunning; to his own followers and in his own eyes, Manson was extremely clever, rather than being insane. In Rog Phillips' "The Yellow Pill," two men, by the names of Dr. Elton and Jerry Bocek, are either in a psychiatrist's office or in the vacuum of space. Jerry continuously tries to convince Dr. Elton that they are in a spaceship, yet Elton thinks that Jerry is insane. Evidence throughout "The Yellow Pill" shows that the two men are clearly on Earth, but that does not necessarily mean that Jerry is insane. Like Charles Manson, Jerry is simply well versed in manipulation; he did not have a skewed sense of reality at all. One of many flaws in Jerry's elaborate lie was when he first visited Dr. Elton's office. He was bound by a straightjacket and was guided by policemen, but he claimed to be tied up in ropes and surrounded by gearlockers. After a quick session with Jerry, Elton ordered the officers to take Jerry away and they did as they were told. However, when he left, Jerry had no explanation for how the policemen, supposedly inanimate gear lockers, were capable of taking him away from Elton's office. Phillips ... A few years after Charles was born Kathleen had married William Manson who gave Charles his last name. The marriage did not last long, after the divorce Charles was sent to an all boy school. At an early age Manson showed signs of a serial killer, in elementary he would gain followers of mostly gullible girls and tell them to attack other girls but when teachers questioned Manson he would tell them that the girls had done the acts on their own will and he had nothing to do with it. Charles Manson's teen years and 20's had been mostly served behind bars for petty crimes. At age 32 Charles Manson was released from a ten year sentence and was eager to create a family. Charles had pulled in multiple girls who had been runaways or lonely girls who just wanted to be a part of something bigger. Later as the family grew Manson had also pulled in men. Charles Manson Case Study Outline Final Case Study Topic and Outline Joe Cantu CRJ 308 Instructor: David Ojo December 8, 2014 Final Case Study Topic and Outline INTRODUCTION: For my final case study, I have chosen to review the case of the infamous Charles Manson. Still decades after his involvement with the gruesome Tate murders, his notoriety lives on. Society has presented him as the poster boy for serial killing psychopath, even though he was said to do nothing more than influence the behaviors of his so called "family". In this study I will aim to address what drove the monster to his delusional ways and how he became the voice of reason to those around him. MANSON'S EARLY LIFE: Manson's upbringing suggests environmental influence being cause for his actions. Manson was raised with no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone he believed that he could trust rejected him. His mother was in prison and he was forced to live with family members. The relationship between he and they never bonded and he chose a delinquent lifestyle resulting in him living and escaping from many different institutions. Manson had no social model to teach him how to live his life and was left to his own demise. THEORIES to SUPPORT BEHAVIOR: Erickson's theory of psychosocial development states that each stage of life is a turning point and has its own challenges. If the challenge is met, a feeling of self confidence occurs; if it is not met, a feeling of inadequacy occurs(Gilbreth, 2009) . He was faced with failure after failure in life and had very little social interaction. According to this theory, Manson would have grown up with a very strong sense of inadequacy, which would guide him to overcompensate in later years. Abraham Maslow's theory best proves the decline of Manson's mental health. Manson never fulfilled any of the categories for Maslow's hierarchy of needs. As a child he often stole his meals. The Death Of Charles Manson Most people won't remember that day because it never affected them, some people choose not to remember, and others... others are still shaken by the events of that day. The victims killed by Manson's followers were Abigail Ann Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, Steven Earl Parent, Sharon Tate Polanski, Jay Sebring and Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. These murders were highly publicized due to the fascinating story behind them and people involved. "Helter Skelter" was written by Vincent Bugliosi (a prosecutor during the Manson trial) and Curt Gentry, and gives a first–person description on the Manson murders and the trial that followed. He had visions and thoughts that displayed signs of paranoia and insanity. An example of this is shown in his appearance before his trial; "He completely shaved his head, because, he told newsmen, 'I am the Devil and the Devil always has a bald head'" (416). Most people, whether believing in the Devil or not, would consider what Manson said nonsensical. Furthermore, not even those who believe in the Devil would not assume that he was bald, and would certainly not shave their heads to have a similar appearance as him. Another example of Manson's delusional behavior is when he claims that his "Family" are the chosen people. "The chosen people were The Family, Charlie said. He would lead them to the desert, where they would multiply until they numbered 144,000. He got this, Poston said, 'from reading things in the Bible, from Revelations'" (369). When Manson read the Bible, he believed that certain prophecies were directed towards him and he was the one to fulfill them. With this being said, this goal is similar to what Grenouille and Manson wanted, to be remembered even after death. Grenouilles' goal was to require the ultimate scent to be accepted by his town or anywhere else he goes. Mansons goal was to let the world be shocked by the crimes that he and his group committed. Perhaps that this trait does influence serial killers to kill freely, but when doing such acts the question someone must ask is the murderer regret what they have done? If someone has killed another person for a reason, for example self–defense, then that is a common murder to report, but in Grenouilles' and Mansons' case they did not report the murder because they felt as though that killing the victim was necessary. "Psychopaths tend to not feel any emotion that is related to guilt..." (Uncategorized). In Perfume the killings that Grenouille committed goes beyond of what Manson has done up until both of their deaths. However, the reason why they killed in the first place do compare because of their childhood with the way they were both raised and how society has treated them. Although their stories before they became serial killers are similar, there is not anything else to compare the two on because Grenouille was smart, sneaky, and worked by himself with each kill when Manson on the other hand trusted individuals to kill with him and those same individuals would later ... The purposes of these killings are misunderstood by today's society, when ignoring Manson's philosophy. Although Manson never killed anyone, he went to prison in 1969 for masterminding the operation. Today's society has labeled Charles Manson as a mass–murderer who had no purpose through his cause. However, society overlooks the goal of Manson's plan, which included creating a better society. Therefore, Manson began to prepare for helter skelter by informing his family. Instead of waiting for helter skelter, Manson wanted to prevent it by creating a utopian society that excluded the African– American race. Above and beyond individuality, Manson felt that four important things needed preserved: air, water, trees, and animals. Mr. Manson commonly refers to these things as AWTA, and claims that his "family gave their lives to unite the brothers and sisters of the world" with these standards. The use of euphorics by Manson and his followers, provided an enhanced sense of individuality in an environment interacting with nature. Manson commonly used music to get his message out to other people, and generally, he would end a session with songs prophesizing helter skelter orchestrated by his guitar. Today, many of Manson's songs have been released under the Guns and Roses album name. This angers Manson and extends his argument that the rights of an individual are no longer safe. In his 1986 Parole Hearing Statement, Manson talks about how his "family wanted to stop a war and turn the government and world to peace." He goes farther to say that his masterplan included preserving ATWA, which would extend to enhance the individual. Both of these ideals were important to the transcendentalists of the 19th century. The belief that the individual, not the government was key to society, was important to the transcendental philosophy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Manson was now and then known as an evil criminal who was held accountable for the murders of innocent people in the late 1960's. The early childhood and persona of Manson led him to brainwashing a group of people known as the " Manson Family", who committed his murders. Manson is seen as a notorious killer without actually killing anyone himself. Charles Milles Maddox was born to a young sixteen year old named Kathleen Maddox who gave birth to him on November 12, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Regarding himself as Jesus Christ reincarnated, he promised to lead the drug induced teens to a hold out in Death Valley through which they would "all descend to live with a secret underground civilization (Klinghoffer 1)." Manson's Family consisted mainly of Bobby Beausoleil, Mary Theresa Brunner, Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van Houten, Linda Kasabian, Susan Atkins, Charles "Tex" Watson, Suzan LaBerge, and Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme (Nelson 1). There were as many as 50 people in the Family at a time, but these nine and Manson remained constant. These were also the ones who did the killing. When Manson met with his followers, he would sometimes sit on a rock and preach to them, acting as their God. He would tell them that the reason they were at this ranch jam–packed with stolen goods was to prepare them for Helter Skelter, the nuclear and race wars Manson predicted ("Charlie" 1). He derived the title Helter Skelter from the Beatles song off their White Album (Bugliosi 28). An excerpt from the lyrics of this song are: "Helter skelter, helter skelter, here she comes, ... They believed he was the reason society was so bad in the 1960's. The 1950's to the 1960's was uncontrollably filled with violence. Our culture was shattered by the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. At the same time, body bags from Vietnam were building up from a war that was tearing our nation apart. Riots and antiwar protesters marched across America. Many people worried that the US was getting out of control. "The Sixties ended abruptly on August 9, 1969..." wrote Didon in The White Album. On August 8,1969, director Roman Polaski's housekeeper found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the age of twenty–six Charles Manson was sent to the US penitentiary. By 1959 Charles had been committed of rape, drug use, pimping, stealing, and fraud. Manson was emotionally insecure and was lacking attention. Manson had obsessions with music; the Beatles and his guitar. He hoped that in his future he would be employed in the music business. (UMKC) On March 21,1967, Charles was released from prison for the second time. The 32 year old went to San Francisco. Charles Manson protested his freedom, "Oh no, I can't go outside there..." "I know I won't be able to adjust to the world, not after I spent all of my life locked up and my mind was free. I am content to stay in the penitentiary, just to take my walks around the yard in the sunshine and play my guitar." The prison guards ignored Manson and unleashed the evil man into society once again. For Charles Manson, religion was a strong force that he used to manipulate the minds of his followers. When Charles was 34 he decided he wanted a family. Charles started to attract a group of followers, many of whom were young women with troubled lives, rebelling against their parents and society. All of Charlie's followers were weak willed people who were naïve, gullible, and easy to lead. Manson used LSD and amphetamines to alter his followers personalities. (Manson) Manson's "family" referred to Charles as "God" or "Jesus Christ." The family traveled around California trying to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 145. Charles Manson 's ' The Night Of The Tate Labianca Murders ' Charles Manson was one of the most well known murderers that didn 't actually kill anyone, instead he had people do it for him. Helter Skelter or other known as Charles Manson brainwashed people that are part of his "family" into thinking they should kill innocent people just because he told them to. Part 1 of Helter Skelter was mainly about the people involved in his "family" that he had created, the detectives that were in charge of the case, and the victims that were murdered and he briefly touches on what happened the night of August 9th, 1969. The author talks about the night of the murders and what exactly went on the night of the Tate–LaBianca murders. He also goes into depth about some of the people that were murdered at 10050 Cielo Drive, like Jay Sebring, who was a hairstylist and Abigail Folger who was an heiress to the Folger coffee fortune, then he talks about Leno and Rosemary LaBianca who were the owners and founders of Wholesale Grocery Company. Part 2 of the book was focused a lot on the girls in the Manson family even though it was titled "The Killers", it even touched on the Hinman murder that had occurred before the Tate–LaBianca murders. Susan Atkins, aka Sadie Mae Glutz was a big part in this chapter/part because she gave the detectives a starting place for the murders. They had taken Susan to the Sybil Brand Institute in Los Angeles, where she had a roommate there and her name was Ronnie Howard. Susan told Ronnie everything about the murders , but ... The Psycotic and Abstract How we live our childhood and grow up can have an impact on adult years and determine how our minds are in regards to right and wrong. Charles Manson lived a terrible child hood, and no child should have to go through what he went through. This does not excuse what we do wrong, morally or unlawfully in our adult years, but can have a terrible impact on the mind. The schools for crime causation will help to try to understand Charles Manson, his childhood, adult live, and life of crime. Charles Manson Charles Manson was not any ordinary man. He did not have a happy child hood, even in his teen years, and most of his life has been spent incarcerated. The schools of crime causation and some of their ... The ego carries out those drives, and "relates desires to practical behavioral alternatives, and the superego determines the standards of right and wrong acquired by the personality" (Schmalleger, 2007, p. 93). This relates to Charles Manson because he could only see past his needs and interests. "People who lack fully developed superegos are often called psychopaths or sociopaths to indicate that they cannot see beyond their own interests" (Schmalleger, 2007, p. 93). Manson had a plan and he was determined to see it through. Again, this comes down to the psychopath in Manson. It al leads back to Armageddon and not living in the real world. The main purpose for Charles Manson and the Family to do the gruesome murders was because of his plans to inherit the earth as the world ruler. Charles Manson was a smart man. Although his child hood was too horrible for any child to go through, Manson had enough sense to create a plan to start the next world war, that he studied Scientology and hypnosis. "Charles Manson, having grown up in reform schools and penitentiaries, was trained by professional criminal minds" (Lerma, 2006, p. 1). Manson realized that he could use scientology to his advantage, so he studied it and found a useful weapon. According to Arnie Lerma, (2006): What cannot be debated is that there was something in Scientology that a serial killer criminal mind found very appealing, useful...it was a TOOL that empowered him, that provided ... • 153. Jim Jones And Charles Manson Persuasion Cults Two of America's most famous cult leaders are Jim Jones and Charles Manson, they are powerful leaders that drove their followers to commit insanely violent, and crazy acts. Today, many people wonder what gave those men such power to influence their followers to commit crimes. Jim Jones, for example, was a visionary and he used religion to influence his followers to join his "community". Jones persuasion was highly successful among the homeless, dispossessed, lonely, and lower–middle–class. These individuals were drawn in large numbers to the Peoples Temple. Using reams of personal documents and types of propaganda to recruit more people to Jonestown. Jonestown gave them fellowship, a dream of social justice, social services clinics for free health care, drug rehabs, legal aid, and a sense of purpose. Jones followers gave him all their worldly possessions, money, and all the power he needed even though he was just as average as his followers. Jones didn't start out as this powerful leader he came to be , he was born into a bitterly unhappy home in Crete, Indiana. "Jones himself was also a drug addict, a sexual predator among both sexes, and somehow he accomplished to fake to a large amount of people that he was against everything that he was still doing in secret" (George Russell). Jim eventually found his place as a member of a small Christian church in his home town. Jones said he joined the religion because he never felt accepted, and he was drawn to fellow outcasts. He soon acquired a gift for charismatic preaching and took it to neighborhoods that were populated primarily by African American in the 1950s. It was in these neighborhoods where he preached racial inclusion and gathered a mixed–race congregation. This did not sit well with many people in this era before the civil rights movement, and it added to his progressive reputation. He became head of the Indianapolis Human Rights Commission, which is a large reason he would recruit different ethnicities to join his temple. Jones also in order to get more members used informers in his audiences to get information out of the unsuspecting faithful that he could reveal as evidence of clairvoyant powers, and he hired fake invalids who would rise from ...
