Follow your students progress in school stay up on homework. A new grade for each subject will be
posted weekly.
• Email: Please make sure to read emails from me and the office. They will include upcoming events,
sign-ups, and just a way to check in with each other
• Classtag: Announcements, homework, and events happening in the classroom will be posted here.
Possibility to have sign ups for events as well. Make sure to join and download the app.
• Google Classroom: Students have recieved an account and assignments are posted on classrooms.
Parents can be invited to receive a summary. (Please let me know to add your email.)
3. A S S I G N M E N T S
• Please encourage your child to use the assignment book to keep track of
their schedule, assignments and other things.
• I will help them track assignments with the Calendar and To-Do list
features in Google classrooms.
• Homework will be shared on Classtag daily along with any other special
event or announcements for the day.
4. H O M E W O R K P O L I C I E S
• Homework is collected on due dates.
• Incomplete/unexcused homework:
• Students will need to fill out a ”pink slip” and get it signed by a parent if
they have late work.
• Late work is marked down 10% for being late for two weeks. After two
week it will be marked down 20%
5. T E S T A N D Q U I Z Z E S
• Quizzes are given periodically to check for understanding of the material.
• If time is available, there will be a review of the material prior to the
assessment. If a student is absent during a review, they will not
automatically be exempt from the quiz or test. It is the responsibility of each
student to know the material.
• All test and quizzes will be announced ahead of time, although the teacher
has the option of giving a pop quiz when appropriate.
6. C L A S S S C H E D U L E & D E T A I L S
• Bible:
• Memory work is due weekly on Wednesday and Friday.
• Each student will receive a memory packet for the whole year. (This document will go
home in the next pick/drop off day.) It will also be posted on homeroom Google
classroom.
• Social Studies: Mr. Smith
• Test, quizzes, color maps, map quizzes and homework
• Studying early civilizations and explorers of the United States
7. • Art will be done throughout the year. Usually once every two weeks.
• Christian Character is throughout the year and is a student character development/ leadership program.
• Handwriting will be practiced through out the week.
• Writing: Step-up to Writing will focus on different styles of writing, outlining and planning five (5)
paragraph papers. Students will also work on lengthening our paragraphs and providing details with
transitions.
• Science: Mrs. Mansfield
• Course will cover Earth, Life and Chemistry
• Tests will be given at the end of each section. A study guide will be given two days prior to a test.
8. • Reading: California Treasures, and Chapter Books
• Will have a reading log and reading menu that will be assigned on
Mondays and collected the following Monday.
• We will read short stories that focus on different compression skills.
• We will also read a novel either as a whole class or in small groups call
Lit. Circles.
• Students will complete a book report at home on a genre book quarterly.
9. • Math:
• Big Ideas Math
• Goal is to help bridge from 4th grade to 6th grade by the end of the year
• Will use Big Ideas as main textbook but Sadlier to supplement and refresh concepts.
• Will not complete Big Ideas, but will cover all the standards and more that are required for 5th
grade.
• Homework is to reinforce the math concept being taught.
• When doing homework, encourage them to try to do their best. If there is a question have them
circle it and ask about it in class the next day.
