2. My first experience
teaching…
In 1985 I earned my black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
I taught a community education class at SOC (currently
SOU) for 7 years. We had a number of students earn
their black belts.
I was somewhat of a bad ass in those days.
3. I’ve always loved to teach and
learn…
In 1986 I graduated cosmetology school to fulfill a
lifelong dream of becoming a hairdresser.
Soon after graduating I decided I wanted more out of
this career so I went to school at Matrix and became an
Educational Advisor.
Matrix gave me the unique opportunity to travel the
West Coast teaching other hairdressers how to use
their products and have a better understanding of how
to color and perm hair.
4. Matrix offered me a position as the
West Coast Educational Coordinator
Instead I decided to give up my position w/Matrix to get
married and settle down.
I owned a salon for a while but felt unfulfilled.
After my 1st child was born I decided to become an
aerobics instructor.
5. I taught a variety of exercise classes for 9
years, here is a list of just a few…..
You and me baby class – A class where new mom’s
could bring their baby and stop whenever needed.
Hi-Lo Aerobics – A beginner class for those just getting
started, very popular with the seniors.
Water Aerobics- an aqua workout for all ability levels
and ages.
Step aerobics – For the intermediate to advanced
exerciser high energy and lots of sweat.
6. When my kids started school.
I couldn’t let go.
So I started volunteering in the classroom.
I loved helping the children and really respected the
teachers.
It sparked a new avenue for my interest in teaching.
A more challenging road than ever before.
I decided to go to work in the school dist..
7. I started as an ERI
An ERI is an “Early Reading Interventionist” I delivered
a scripted program to the kindergardeners & 1st graders
in a fast and entertaining way. I did this for almost 3
years.
I loved the kinders and had a lot of fun with the
program. I got to entertain and teach (my favorite
combination).
The first year I was there I had the honor of being part
of the kindergarden team that had the highest gain in
reading in the district.
8. Currently I am the Computer
Lab Manager
I oversee up to 14 kids--grades 1st through 6th through
out the day.
I also help 2nd grade students that are struggling
readers improve their reading skills in a one on one
basis.
