Metathreate In Hamlet Essay
William Shakespeare was well known for his use in metathreate, a play which features another play
as a part of the plot. First time that we see the making of metathreate was when Hamlet declares in
Act II, where he announces a whole plot to 'catch' his uncle Claudius, and force him into a genuine
confession of the murder of his father. Due to the fact that Hamlet has been entrusted with the duty
of avenging his father's death by his father's Ghost. He was then told learns that his father may be
murdered by Claudius, but he hesitates to execute the command of the Ghost and Claudius' sin. All
he need and want now is to have a strong proof before taking any revenge and allows time to lapse
until the arrival of the players. Their arrival somehow inspires him with a sudden idea of enacting a
whole play to catch the conscience of Claudius.
At first, Hamlet has struggles during the first part of the play with the admonition from the Ghost of
his father to avenge his murder. He surely wants to be a loyal son and he hates his uncle, however,
he's not too quick to commit murder himself. And that's why he decides that he needs some
confirmation of his uncle's guilt, and therefore, he had this whole plan to 'catch' him ... Show more

Throughout the play, Hamlet himself try to raises the issue of seeming when he insists that others
may likely only seem to be in mourning, but however, he genuinely is in mourning as well. Due to
the fact that basically no one in the play is actually what they have seem, or more specifically, no
one is actually playing the role that is expected, for example, when Hamlet acts insane or when
Ophelia, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, Polonius, and Claudius all act as

Personal Narrative: Hunting Ghosts
I don't really remember this dream, so I'm going to try my best on the one part I do remember. I was
in a team where we had to hunt ghosts and I was a psychic. The members that were on my team was
Levi (Attack on Titan) and a few other people that I didn't really recognize. We were on a mission
where we had to check out a house. We had just gotten into the house and had searched the whole
place. We had gone to the back yard, and Levi had started talking to the owner of the house. While
Levi was talking to the owner a couple of team members and I went to investigate a noise that I had
heard on the other side of the yard. When we got there a ghost had grabbed one of the team
members and basically made him explode. When that had happened, we

A Haunted House Analysis
In Virginia Woolf's A Haunted House, images of darkness and light have numerous symbolic
meanings. Light is associated with the presence of the ghostly couple that roams the speaker's home,
but it has symbolic meanings beyond that–it represents the insight and truth the speaker gains from
observing the couple. In addition, as is revealed by the last lines of the story and the images of
darkness used in the story (which provide a counterpoint to the symbolism of light), light represents
the love and happiness that comes from union. Overall, light plays a major role in the development
of one of the major themes of the story: human relationships are more valuable and lasting than any
tangible riches or treasures.
Light imagery is associated with the ghostly couple throughout much of Virginia Woolf's work. For
instance, in section 3, the speaker states that she uses the reflection of sunlight in the drawing room
window to tell if the ghosts are present. In sections 4 and 5, light seems to describe the ghostly
couple itself: "But the beam of the lamp falls straight from the window...Wandering through the
house...the ghostly couple seek their joy." By linking the presence of light with the presence of the
ghost couple, Woolf uses light as an illuminating and revealing force. The light the ghosts bring with
them opens her eyes and mind to presences she would otherwise be ignorant of. Furthermore, the
light of the ghosts reveals an important truth to the speaker at the end of the story,

Comparing Film 'The Ghost And The Darkness'
The Ghost and the Darkness is a 1996 American ancient adventure film supervised by Stephen
Hopkins and starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. The film is constructed on The Man–Eaters
of Tsavo by John Henry Patterson, the man who literally killed both real lions. While the real man–
feeders were, like all the lions from the Tsavo region, a more hostile, maneless diversity, those used
for filming were literally the least hostile available, for both security and equisite reasons. The lions
in the film's were two male lions with manes. The lions were brothers named Caesar and Bongo,
who were inhabitants of the Bowmanville Zoo in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, both of brothers
were also marked in George of the Jungle. The film also marked three other lions: two lions from
France and one lion from the USA. In the film, both the lions are pictured having manes. In the
reality, the man–feeders lacked manes, as male Tsavo lions hold either minimum manes or none at
all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This movie or film is based on an amazing true story. In 1898 two African lions, locally known as
"The Ghost" and The Darkness", mudered a number of employers on the East Africa Rail road at the
Tsavo River and stopped the project until the workers were hunted down and report by a British
supervisor. The event was described in the book titled "The Man–feeders of Tsavo" which became,
in 1996, the basis for a film starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer. Today, the ascended
taxidermy skins of two lions are on the display in the Field Museum in Chicago. In 1996, Patterson's
1907 book, The Man–Eaters of Tsavo, was modified into a Hollywood screenplay sub– titled "The

Paranormal Activity in Wisconsin
Wisconsin is the home of many people, but it is also the home of many locations of paranormal
activity. Paranormal sightings have been reported all over Wisconsin, ranging from haunted houses
to paranormal creatures. These sightings have been reported in the northern part of Wisconsin and
even the southern part. In this paper, three popular locations will be talking about, including their
histories.
What is the paranormal you say? Glenn G. Sparks, C. Leigh Nelson, and Rose G. Campbell in "The
Relationship Between Exposure To Televised Messages About Paranormal Phenomena And

Players from all over the country claimed that at least one unusual thing happened to them while
staying at the Pfister hotel.
Wisconsin doesn't just have haunted houses. On a country road in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, many have
reported witnessing a creature that has the same characteristics as what we would call a werewolf.
Eventually, the creature was named the "Beast of Bray Road." This creature is also considered the
"Werewolf of Wisconsin."
One of the first sightings was in 1936 by Mark Schackelman. According to Linda S. Godfrey in her
book, The Beast of Bray Road: Tailing Wisconsin's Werewolf, Schackelman "encountered a strange
creature on the St. Colletta's grounds at midnight on two separate nights. The first night, he found
the creature kneeling atop a Native American burial mound. The strange, upright being appeared to
be clawing the ground but fled when the watchman approached" (24).
The beast supposedly has the body of a man covered in fur and the head of a wolf with pointed ears.
Some claim to have photos of it as evidence but many don't believe that those photos are real.
Encounters were still being reported with the Beast of Bray Road. Unfortunately, the last reported
encounter was in

The Importance Of Paranormal Activity
Did you know that according to Michael Lipka, 18% of Americans say that they have seen a ghost.
Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant
because people will know if it's a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity.
A second reason why it's relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what's happening
and know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about
paranormal activity for example saying it's your brain and it's not real. Paranormal activity is real.
Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific
evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it's happened before to
people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. A family friend said, "Our
younger boy Connor came down and asked me Mom, who's the old man upstairs with a blanket
around him." Then another time she said her husband was gone, so it was just her and the kid, and
they heard a bunch of noises down in the basement so she called 911. The cops came with their guns
out and they went down into the basement and found nobody, but all the stuff was tipped over. Later,
they contacted the former owners daughter and asked her to come over and she confirmed it was her
Dad (Connor and the daughter described him the same way), so she went into the house and yelled,

Narrative What Are Ghosts Essay
In the middle of the night I was sound asleep, until I got this weird sensation throughout my mind
that made me feel like I was being watched and awoke. When I sat up I noticed an average–looking
man standing in the darkness of my bedroom. Frightened, I grabbed my blanket, moved closer to the
wall, and followed the man with my wide–open eyes. Eventually, he made his way into my half–
open closet door. I ran to turn the light on faster than a wimpy kid who punched the tough guy in
school. Unlike most people would, I went straight to the closet door; when I opened the door, I
found nothing. It's easy to assume that I didn't get too much sleep that night. I am not positive what
happened during that mind–puzzling night, but I think the man ... Show more content on

There are many factors that contribute to the transformation of a spirit: whether or not one did good
deeds, the amount of spiritual practice, destiny, death cause, funeral, spiritual rituals, self–esteem,
have desires that weren't fulfilled, negative thoughts, anger, harmed people during lifetime, or
doesn't have spiritual thoughts or practices (What Are Ghosts). Occasionally, the ghost will attach to
a person, place or object.
Some ghosts are rather weak and highly dependent on the place or person they are attached to. They
are sometimes called earthbound spirits. Some other ghosts have gained so much energy that they
can move around and even make objects move with their energy. These are called poltergeists.
(What to Do)
Poltergeists are one kind of ghost that one would not enjoy to have in their company. "Very strong
poltergeists have a limited ability to slam doors or make objects fall on your head" (What to Do).
"They derive pleasure out of exerting control over and tormenting humans and other subtle–bodies"
(What Are Ghosts). Ghosts take the energy from their victim's breath and use the breath to provide
the them with energy. Ghosts that had addictions to chemicals, such as addictive drugs and alcohol,
will feed off of humans with a similar addiction (Spiritual Compass). Spirits "can feed off of your
fear" (Spiritual Compass). "Emotionally they can scare you, but only if you are afraid of them"
(What to Do). The fear is what

Persuasive Essay On Ghosts
Have you ever driven on the road and spotted an abandoned, creepy, old building – whether it's an
old factory, hospital, or house – and hearing that it was haunted by the people who once lived there?
Well, in some places you'll find that there are still quite of bit of these buildings around; some being
used as historical locations while others are being used as a functioning house. But when it all
comes down to ghost and spirits, people, of course, have different opinions and beliefs on the
subject.
Some people, for example, say that ghost don't exist and are just used to scare people, especially
around Halloween. While other people strongly believe in life after death and provide scientific
evidence to back up their claims. Then there are individuals who just aren't sure what to believe
when it comes to paranormal science. So, if you're investigating into the paranormal, you can be as

The Paranormal By Benjamin Radford
This article by Benjamin Radford expresses err in belief of the paranormal by presenting the
argument that ghost hunters frequent mistakes in their investigations, thus rendering their results
invalid. Any belief in ghost–like creatures cannot be considered as legitimate because the evidence
is not legitimate. He claims that ghost hunting does not require any kind of professional license, so
any results are a product of effectiveness rather than skill. Furthermore, when findings are
interpreted, investigators tend to disregard any alternative explanation and heed to the emotions of
the supposed victims, which injects bias into any evidence that is collected. In terms of collected
evidence, Radford asserts that it is gained unscientifically

The Truth About Ghosts And Demons Essay
"Oren Peli once said, 'The thing I find really scary about ghosts and demons is tat ylu don't really
know what they are or where they are. They're not very well understood. You don't know what they
want from you. So it's the kind of thing you don't even know how to defend yourself against.
Anything that's unknown and mysterious is very scary.'" Controversial topics range from global
tragedies to the newest video game. One that has lived for centuries, is whether or not the
supernatural and paranormal exist. Like every discussion, there are believers, and there are skeptics.
Scientists tend to be the skeptics, while those with an adventurous mind tend to be those who
believe that some other–world being exist. Scientists use experimentation to give explanations as to
why someone would have a paranormal experience, and most have been successful in what they
were proving, but those who are believers also give excellent points to why their experiences have
no scientific proof with them making it hard to choose a side. Since the dawn of time, there were
ghosts, and every person has their own belief, but many might not know for sure because of the
variety of explanations. French from the University of London calls belief in ghosts a
"misinterpretation of natural phenomena" (French, October 2014, para 1). He explains that from a
psychological perspective, it is almost impossible to believe in such an idea. Modern neuroscience
has concluded that no consciousness could survive

Fears Of The Supernatural During The Elizabethan Era
Fears of the Supernatural During the Elizabethan Era, many strange superstitions became common
around Europe. Some of these are still evident in society today. Why do people think that black cats
mean bad luck? Why do people say "God bless you," after somebody sneezes? And what does this
have to do with ghosts? During the Shakespearean time period, superstitions were caused by the
creation of ghost stories, provoked greatly by plays, and were blamed for misfortune. The word
superstition is often used very loosely, and should first be defined, before being used. "Derived from
super 'above', and stare 'to stand', the Latin Superstitio signifies a 'standing over' or 'survival',
describing an irrational or a credulous attitude towards magico–religious beliefs and practices in a
modern civilized community long after these primitive ideas and customs have been abandoned by
the more sophisticated section of society" (James 289). The exact definition of the word
"superstition," from the Gale database, tells us that the belief in superstitions was popular long after
society had cast aside the thoughts from society. During this time, the belief of superstitions was
growing more, as was the creation of plays and ghost stories. The belief in superstitions was caused
mostly by ghost stories. One of the most famous ghost stories is that of Queen Isabella of France.
The upper rooms (of Castle Rising) are said to be haunted by the ghost of one of the castle's most
notorious former

The Devil's Backbone Analysis

people love to hear stories from fairytales to ghosts stories. Another constant is that these stories are

"sickens the soul" is the turning lump we feel in our stomach every time we worry or fear the worst.

Taking a Look at Poltergeist
Poltergeist are loud supernatural ghosts that are not something you want to mess with. Have you
ever had the bed shake unexpectedly? Or have the power go out when there's a not even a storm? Or
maybe even had some disappearing objects... Well this could be the result of a Poltergeist. We
believe that Poltergeists are real. (MOLLY)
Poltergeist hauntings have been going on for a very long time. Several historical poltergeist cases
have been well documented. One of the first poltergeist cases was the Thornton Heath Poltergeist
Case. One August night the family was woken in the middle of the night by their radio, which had
somehow turned itself on. The radio was turned to the foreign language station. At christmas time an
ornament was taken off the tree by an unseen presence, and thrown a the fathers forehead. Near new
years eve footsteps were heard in the attic. Accounts of poltergeist encounters have been happening
since this time. People in history probably wouldn't lie about there being a ghost in their house. If it
was just a made up thing how would so many people have evidence of poltergeist? So do you
believe poltergeists are real? (CLAIRE)
Poltergeists center people usually that are teens. Their attacks are usually towards people that have
sadness in their life and depression. They are life like creatures that throw things, scratch you, and
just wreck your house. They are not nice to you and can last anywhere from 3 hours to 3 years it can

Difference Between Supernatural And Supernatural
In today's production of films, ghosts and paranormal beings are a popular topic. However, even
with today's modern science, there is no legitimate proof of ghosts or spirits. When unexplainable
things happen when no one else is around, the idea of a paranormal being might seem rational.
Despite the speculation of the phenomenon, what exactly is paranormal activity and how do residual
areas become haunted by these spirits? The terms "supernatural" and "paranormal" are often
confused. Supernatural is relating more to faith or something we cannot completely comprehend or
prove with our sciences. Where–as paranormal is something that cannot be explained with current
knowledge and technology, but most likely has a scientific reason for why it's happening. (Kelly)
The difference between both supernatural and paranormal has to do with being able to explain and
understand the paranormal with whatever available science. Religion might often be pushed into the
category for supernatural, as with the science available, we cannot fully explain ideologies of
religion. With the paranormal, mediocre equipment is used to supposedly make contact with the
supernatural. It's believed that the supernatural will eventually be able to be explained with
advanced science. There have been many reports of residual areas all around Kansas that have been
determined as either haunted or rich with paranormal activity. A famous example is the Topeka State
Hospital, which was an asylum that was in

The Ghost In Hamlet's Vengeance
The story, Hamlet, could be seen as one full of tragedy, love, and vengeance. Yet, the story could
also be seen as one filled with bouts of psychotic episodes of different characters specifically
Hamlet's. Hypothetically speaking, there seems to be a progress from being a protagonist to an
antagonist within Hamlet's character. Many could say it could have been his thirst for vengeance of
hunting down his father's killer and brother, Claudius. It's seen that The Ghost is an embodiment of
Hamlet's grief yet there are questions why Hamlet had became the man he was.Why does this figure

Image Of Death In Hamlet
In Hamlet, death is present at the three levels, the literal, the perceptual and the conceptual. At the
literal level, the skulls are not only seen but smelt olfactory imagery in Hamlet is closely related to
the theme of death. Indeed, when the king asks Hamlet about the corpse of Polonius, the sarcastic
Prince answers: if you find him not within this month, you shall nose him as you go up the stairs
into the lobby
(Hamlet, IV, iii, 36–38)
The king himself describes his murderous deeds as smelling to heaven. The image of rot is pervasive
in the play. The play, therefore, does not address sight and hearing alone. It also presents us with
odors. The odors of Hamlet vex the reader and the audience. Not only are they offensive, but also ...

Their identities are created either through memory or through imagination. The skulls are remnants
or traces of a past existence. They have two opposite layers of meaning. First, they represent death.
Second, they are the traces of a past life. Indeed, the identities Hamlet gives to the skulls are of
people who may or may not have lived once. Identity, therefore, is always related to life. The
gravedigger tells Hamlet that Ophelia is "one that was a woman" (Hamlet, V, I, 140). Hamlet
himself says that his father "was a man" (Hamlet, I, ii, 188). Gender disappears as one dies. Dead

doors unexplainably locking, mysterious footsteps, and strange yet recognizable noises and/or odors.
The explanation for this is typically a ghost, which modern researchers define as an image of a

Essay about Why we believe in ghosts

Why people believe in ghosts.
Lying in bed in the middle of the night while sleep eludes me, a noise breaks through the silence. Oh
my God! What was that!? Maybe it was just my imagination, or maybe it was just the house settling.
There it is again! I must be hearing things. I get cold and my body starts to shiver uncontrollably. I
peek to where the sound comes from and I could swear I see something through the dark room; it
appears even darker than the surrounding area. Oh my! I think it just moved. My breathing becomes
labored and I pull the covers over my head, trying to calm myself down while making my brain
work through what just happened. Was I dreaming? Or did I just see a ghost?

The belief in Doppelgangers and poltergeist has also crossed the ocean over to the U.S. Many
people still report poltergeist activity in their homes.
Another example of a cultures belief in ghosts is Ireland's and Scotland's (also known as the Celt's)
belief in Samhain or All Hallow's Eve. Samhain is a festival that is celebrated from October 31st to
November 2nd. Samhain is a time of the year that celebrates the last harvest before the winter
comes, and is dedicated to the "Lord of the Dead" (Guiley 19). The Celt's believe that the dead will
come out of their final resting place and mess with the crops. Also, it is believed that communication
with the dead is easier during Samhain. It is said that the veil that separates the living from the dead
is at its thinnest during this time. The Lord of the Dead holds a sentencing of spirits, where if they
were good they can exist in the form of a human, and if they were bad, the form of an animal.
Offerings of food and drink are made to the Lord of the Dead so he would not be so severe in his
sentencing. Many Celt's would dress up on Samhain to confuse the spirits that were roaming around
so they wouldn't stop, but continue to pass them by (Guiley 19). This festival is still celebrated today
as Halloween. Currently, Americans hold by some of the old traditions by dressing up and making
offerings by handing out candy. Many Celt's still hold beliefs in the old ways. Celt's also believe in

History Of St. Albans Sanatorium
St. Albans Sanatorium has a beautiful Sphinx–like presence that literally vibrates with remarkable
energy. She will often call out to certain people, pulling them into her arms and into her service. I
know, because she chose me to help save her and I am not alone. When I first came to St. Albans I
was working with merchandising. At that time I was afraid of the dark hallways and empty rooms of
the old asylum. I quickly overcame my fear of the place and it was replaced by a love of the
building and what it had meant for so many who had come before me. We are its caretakers. Those
of us, both paid and volunteer who strive to keep the doors open to a place worth saving, a place that
was once the caretaker to so many within its care. Those of us who are now here carry on the vision
of people like Don Hanauer, former Director of Operations for St. Albans. He saw the beauty in this
building and had a vision of restoring it to its former glory. As outlined in the final chapter of this
book, we have worked on a number of special events developed to generate funding for the
structure's restoration. At some point, Don's vision for St. Albans became mine. After Don left I
knew that I would need to lead the effort to take the sanatorium from disrepair back into wholeness.
The beauty and Spirit of this historic landmark now draws paranormal investigators from all over
America and beyond, to walk the hallways with the intent of encountering its remaining residents.

The Philosophy Behind Phantoms
A ghost is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal that can appear in visible form or other
manifestation to the living. These paranormal beings have been talked about for many years.
Witnesses admitted to having seen spirits walking among Earth after death; taking on many forms
and supposedly haunt various buildings and locations. Ghosts, phantoms, apparitions, spirits, and
specters are divergent words, but all define a being that was once living but is now earthbound. No
actual evidence has been found to prove their existence, so scientists are unable to claim that they
exist. There is reason to believe that spirits may roam Earth due to the ... Show more content on

Shadow ghosts are unexplained shadows that are dark in color and are said to be evil, or bad luck,
for their gloomy appearance. Commonly spotted in reflective areas, such as mirrors and windows,
most are seen inside houses or outside at a distance, so anywhere where the presence of ghosts are
felt would have the chance of holding a phantom there (Stone 20–21).
Furthermore, ghosts have made history through encounters with iconic figures. One of the first
evidence of ghost sightings came from the first century A.D.; by the Roman author and statesman,
Pliny the Younger. He was well known for the stories of his encounters with these phantoms, and
became one of the most significant ghost story writers during the Roman Empire. Haunting his
home in Athens, he claimed to have seen an apparition in the form of an old man with a long beard,
clasping rattling chains. Another witness of ghost sightings included Lucian, a Greek writer, and
Roman Plautus, who also wrote noteworthy ghost stories as well. The first poltergeist was revealed
in 856 A.D. afflicting a family who lived i a farmhouse in Germany. Lucian claimed that the
phantom involved threw stones, started fires, and caused a major disturbance for the scarred family

Ghost Hunt Research Paper
If you believe in ghosts, you aren't alone. A YouGov survey of about 1,000 people says that 45% of
people believe that ghosts or spirits of the dead can come back and interact with us. It kind of
sounds crazy to believe that people can stick around after they die and even interact with objects in
our world, but so many people swear they have encountered something that they can't explain. I've
always grew up really skeptical of these things. The Idea that spirits stick around with us after death
is an ancient one, and is incorporated into countless literature, from the Bible to "Macbeth". It has
inspired so many different kinds of media like horror movies, ghost stories, and tv shows. I grew up
watching some of these things, and the question always remained in my head: Are ghosts real? I
really wanted to answer that in this senior project. I think I finally have a good answer that I'm going
to stick with. Ghost hunting dates back to the 18th century. Groups like the Society for Psychical

existence, how can we feel their presence and does science proof the existence of ghost. In
traditional belief and fiction, a ghost (sometimes known as a spectre (British English) or specter
(American English), phantom, apparition or spook) is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal

This theory concerning ghosts remains unproven. We ponder if it is also possible that this type of
ghost is just trapped in time, unable to communicate or interact with the living due to severe
emotional trauma – a self–created mental prison, if you will. Both ghost theories regarding non–
reactive ghosts will have to be worked on in the future to see which has merit. Another type of ghost
is called a poltergeist, which many believe to be the projected psychokinetic energy of a living
person that creates movement of objects and various noises. Though the word "poltergeist" is
German for "noisy ghost," this type of phenomenon is not attributed to ghosts by those who have
studied such accounts. It seems true poltergeist haunting activity is typically centred around a female
adolescent in the home who is unwittingly producing the disturbance. The disturbance typically
ceases over time, as the adolescent ages.
A theory regarding ghosts centres around the previously described condition the earthbound spirits
find themselves in. For these reasons, we believe many a haunting occurs, as ghosts are suffering
and in need of assistance in easing the emotional pain. We believe that we are finding most ghostly
activity, such as noises, dreams, visible appearances, various disturbance, communications,
touching, and even attacks, can all be explained by coming to understand the desperate minds of
pained, disembodied spirits.

A pseudoscience that millions of people are interested in is Ghost. Ghosts are spirits that survived
death to live in another realm. Many people in many different cultures believe that when a person
dies only their body ceases to exist. (Spiritual Science Research Foundation, n.d.) It is believed that
the person's subconscious mind, ego and soul continues to exists and moves to another realm.

Ghosts In The Illiad
Although it is unknown when people began to believe in ghosts, but from the evidences it is dated
back to ancient Mesopotamian religion as well as Egypt culture in the Bronze age (3300–1200 BC).
The belief was started by the concept of the souls from the Near East religions (which, were
influenced from the ancient Greek religion). In ancient Mesopotamian culture, death was considered
'no turning back point'. The land of the dead was known as Irkalla, "land of no return", where the
souls reside in darkness and hunger. No soul can leave Irkalla, however, ghosts could appear to
living people to ask for proper burial or to correct what the living had done improperly to them.

Homer's depiction of classical ghosts are just plain warriors–mostly from Troy–who would murmur
heroic deeds they did in hollow tone to each other and reside under Hades's realm for eternity. They
are not harmful to any living once the proper burials were performed and coins were placed under
their tongues. When they did appear to the living for some particular reason they are mere puffs of
smoke. Although in Illiad, Achilles is approached by his dead comrade, Patroclus, who appeared
with the same stature and clothes as a living, asking him to cremate his body. Some classical ghosts
also appear to the living to give advices as well. The early medieval ghosts, however, the
phenomena were heavily influenced by the advent of Christianity. The church, in order to attract
converts, therefore offer alternative doctrine of afterlife. It was believed that souls might be
punished after death, but eventually all will be saved. The bad souls would become demons. These
ghosts would indirectly reveal their presence, in case of report by Greek writer regarding the fourth
of Nicaea, whom found the dead bishops' signatures upon the document in front of their tomb, or on
some occasion, ghosts appeared to be dirty, disfigured, and livid as in Perpetua's story when she saw
her dead brother. After that, in the early fourteen century, it was believed that ghosts are ubiquitous
from the great famine and Black Death. The theme of death were more recognized and emphasized
as well as purgatory and limbo. Most spirits communicated with the living through dreams and the
subject often concerned with confessions, consequences of not confessing their sins, and baptism,
warning the living that ones should confess their sins and baptize before they die. Then, in sixteenth
century, the witches, demons, and evil spirits waiting to trick the living are became the topic as well

The Existence of Ghosts
In folklore, mythology, and modern media such as literary fiction, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a
dead person or animal that can appear, invisible form or other manifestation, to the living.
(Wikipedia). The existence of ghosts has always been an alerting and spooky, debatable motion that
humans are curious of. There have been countless amounts of evidence gathered by paranormal
investigators or ghost hunters. From videos of moving objects, recordings of voices from spirits
through EVP, and even pictures of ghosts themselves. All of which the world sees as undeniable or
fraudulent evidence based on one's own self–belief. However, with numerous accounts of
documentation from not only paranormal investigators, but actual people from across the world, it's
almost impossible to not believe that such phenomenon exist on earth, and those who do not are just
terrified to accept it.
To determining whether or not the existences of ghosts are true, there are many resources we use
that can gather massive information. "To investigate if environmental fluctuations actually occur in

Descriptive Essay On Haunted House
If there was one thing that has grasped my attention as much as it caused me nightmares, it was
haunted houses. Not the type of haunted houses that pop up around Halloween and frighten you with
organized jump scares. I mean real haunted houses with a backstory. The kind where someone ended
up being murdered on the property and the person's spirit lingers years later. That's what I am on the
search for. My interest started after I had accidently watched My Paranormal Encounter while
channel surfing at the age of 10. Ever since that day I've been doing research on paranormal activity:
attempting to discover a way to conquer my fear. It's been a decade since I first began and myself,
along with a few friends, have been preparing for almost a year to further my research by visiting a
real haunted house. Convincing myself that I was ready for this was more difficult than convincing
the others involved. Even now as I sit in the back of some beat up van I feel like we should go back.
I shifted my attention from the view of cornfields outside the window to the front where Tony and
Cheryl sat jamming out to some song by Guns n' Roses with the windows down. They started
waving their hands around like fools, attempting to keep everyone lively since we had been on the
empty road for several hours without stopping much. Behind me, Kurt opened the mini cooler,
which sat upon miscellaneous crumbs that had always coated the colorless carpet, and snickered.

The Night The Ghost Got In
Has one ever witnessed a paranormal encounter? "The Night the Ghost Got In" is written by James
Thurber and takes place November 17, 1915. Footsteps are heard down stairs and each family
member has a different theory on what is making those footsteps. Like any family things get out of
hand fast. James Thurber delivers a great tale on paranoia, the struggle of PTSD while adding some
humor.
Paranoia is a common feeling in the story. Everyone can relate to a time when a door closed
unexpectedly, or unexplainable noises can were heard. So many thoughts of what it could be can
lead people to paranoia. When the boy in the story first hears the footsteps, he just assumes it's a
ghost. The paranoia builds up when he wakes his brother up to investigate the ghost. The mother
then wakes and hears the noise, but instead of a ghost she thought it was burglars. The mothers
paranoia escalates quickly and the cops show up. Then the grandfathers paranoia of deserters leads
him to shooting a cop. By the end of the night no one knows what happen and what the cause of the
noise was. Also, no one really rationally thought about things and what other possibilities the noise
could be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Night the Ghost Got In, Thurber used humor to lessen the serious condition called PTSD.
Back in 1915 PTSD was not a known condition. In the story Thurber has the grandfather suffer from

people who abandoned duty without permission. Many soldiers in the war did not like deserters and
therefore why the grandfather tried to shoot them. He even has a gun next to him (page 3). Some
people may have a grandfather that also, has PTSD and has acted the same way. This is a way to
connect with the reader and relate. PTSD is a serious condition, that when one hears about it they

Metathreate In Hamlet Essay

  • 1. Metathreate In Hamlet Essay William Shakespeare was well known for his use in metathreate, a play which features another play as a part of the plot. First time that we see the making of metathreate was when Hamlet declares in Act II, where he announces a whole plot to 'catch' his uncle Claudius, and force him into a genuine confession of the murder of his father. Due to the fact that Hamlet has been entrusted with the duty of avenging his father's death by his father's Ghost. He was then told learns that his father may be murdered by Claudius, but he hesitates to execute the command of the Ghost and Claudius' sin. All he need and want now is to have a strong proof before taking any revenge and allows time to lapse until the arrival of the players. Their arrival somehow inspires him with a sudden idea of enacting a whole play to catch the conscience of Claudius. At first, Hamlet has struggles during the first part of the play with the admonition from the Ghost of his father to avenge his murder. He surely wants to be a loyal son and he hates his uncle, however, he's not too quick to commit murder himself. And that's why he decides that he needs some confirmation of his uncle's guilt, and therefore, he had this whole plan to 'catch' him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Personal Narrative: Hunting Ghosts I don't really remember this dream, so I'm going to try my best on the one part I do remember. I was in a team where we had to hunt ghosts and I was a psychic. The members that were on my team was Levi (Attack on Titan) and a few other people that I didn't really recognize. We were on a mission where we had to check out a house. We had just gotten into the house and had searched the whole place. We had gone to the back yard, and Levi had started talking to the owner of the house. While Levi was talking to the owner a couple of team members and I went to investigate a noise that I had heard on the other side of the yard. When we got there a ghost had grabbed one of the team members and basically made him explode. When that had happened, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Haunted House Analysis In Virginia Woolf's A Haunted House, images of darkness and light have numerous symbolic meanings. Light is associated with the presence of the ghostly couple that roams the speaker's home, but it has symbolic meanings beyond that–it represents the insight and truth the speaker gains from observing the couple. In addition, as is revealed by the last lines of the story and the images of darkness used in the story (which provide a counterpoint to the symbolism of light), light represents the love and happiness that comes from union. Overall, light plays a major role in the development of one of the major themes of the story: human relationships are more valuable and lasting than any tangible riches or treasures. Light imagery is associated with the ghostly couple throughout much of Virginia Woolf's work. For instance, in section 3, the speaker states that she uses the reflection of sunlight in the drawing room window to tell if the ghosts are present. In sections 4 and 5, light seems to describe the ghostly couple itself: "But the beam of the lamp falls straight from the window...Wandering through the house...the ghostly couple seek their joy." By linking the presence of light with the presence of the ghost couple, Woolf uses light as an illuminating and revealing force. The light the ghosts bring with them opens her eyes and mind to presences she would otherwise be ignorant of. Furthermore, the light of the ghosts reveals an important truth to the speaker at the end of the story, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Comparing Film 'The Ghost And The Darkness' The Ghost and the Darkness is a 1996 American ancient adventure film supervised by Stephen Hopkins and starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. The film is constructed on The Man–Eaters of Tsavo by John Henry Patterson, the man who literally killed both real lions. While the real man– feeders were, like all the lions from the Tsavo region, a more hostile, maneless diversity, those used for filming were literally the least hostile available, for both security and equisite reasons. The lions in the film's were two male lions with manes. The lions were brothers named Caesar and Bongo, who were inhabitants of the Bowmanville Zoo in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, both of brothers were also marked in George of the Jungle. The film also marked three other lions: two lions from France and one lion from the USA. In the film, both the lions are pictured having manes. In the reality, the man–feeders lacked manes, as male Tsavo lions hold either minimum manes or none at all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This movie or film is based on an amazing true story. In 1898 two African lions, locally known as "The Ghost" and The Darkness", mudered a number of employers on the East Africa Rail road at the Tsavo River and stopped the project until the workers were hunted down and report by a British supervisor. The event was described in the book titled "The Man–feeders of Tsavo" which became, in 1996, the basis for a film starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer. Today, the ascended taxidermy skins of two lions are on the display in the Field Museum in Chicago. In 1996, Patterson's 1907 book, The Man–Eaters of Tsavo, was modified into a Hollywood screenplay sub– titled "The Ghost and the Darkness", which gazed Val Kilmer as Patterson and Michael Douglas as a fictional big game hunter personality Charles ... Paranormal sightings have been reported all over Wisconsin, ranging from haunted houses to paranormal creatures. These sightings have been reported in the northern part of Wisconsin and even the southern part. In this paper, three popular locations will be talking about, including their histories. Wisconsin doesn't just have haunted houses. On a country road in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, many have reported witnessing a creature that has the same characteristics as what we would call a werewolf. Eventually, the creature was named the "Beast of Bray Road." This creature is also considered the "Werewolf of Wisconsin." One of the first sightings was in 1936 by Mark Schackelman. According to Linda S. Godfrey in her book, The Beast of Bray Road: Tailing Wisconsin's Werewolf, Schackelman "encountered a strange creature on the St. Colletta's grounds at midnight on two separate nights. The first night, he found the creature kneeling atop a Native American burial mound. The strange, upright being appeared to be clawing the ground but fled when the watchman approached" (24). The beast supposedly has the body of a man covered in fur and the head of a wolf with pointed ears. Some claim to have photos of it as evidence but many don't believe that those photos are real. • 11. The Importance Of Paranormal Activity Did you know that according to Michael Lipka, 18% of Americans say that they have seen a ghost. Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant because people will know if it's a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity. A second reason why it's relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what's happening and know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about paranormal activity for example saying it's your brain and it's not real. Paranormal activity is real. Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it's happened before to people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. A family friend said, "Our younger boy Connor came down and asked me Mom, who's the old man upstairs with a blanket around him." Then another time she said her husband was gone, so it was just her and the kid, and they heard a bunch of noises down in the basement so she called 911. The cops came with their guns out and they went down into the basement and found nobody, but all the stuff was tipped over. Later, they contacted the former owners daughter and asked her to come over and she confirmed it was her Dad (Connor and the daughter described him the same way), so she went into the house and yelled, "this is not your ... • 13. Narrative What Are Ghosts Essay In the middle of the night I was sound asleep, until I got this weird sensation throughout my mind that made me feel like I was being watched and awoke. When I sat up I noticed an average–looking man standing in the darkness of my bedroom. Frightened, I grabbed my blanket, moved closer to the wall, and followed the man with my wide–open eyes. Eventually, he made his way into my half– open closet door. I ran to turn the light on faster than a wimpy kid who punched the tough guy in school. Unlike most people would, I went straight to the closet door; when I opened the door, I found nothing. It's easy to assume that I didn't get too much sleep that night. I am not positive what happened during that mind–puzzling night, but I think the man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Occasionally, the ghost will attach to a person, place or object. Some ghosts are rather weak and highly dependent on the place or person they are attached to. They are sometimes called earthbound spirits. Some other ghosts have gained so much energy that they can move around and even make objects move with their energy. These are called poltergeists. (What to Do) Poltergeists are one kind of ghost that one would not enjoy to have in their company. "Very strong poltergeists have a limited ability to slam doors or make objects fall on your head" (What to Do). Persuasive Essay On Ghosts Have you ever driven on the road and spotted an abandoned, creepy, old building – whether it's an old factory, hospital, or house – and hearing that it was haunted by the people who once lived there? Well, in some places you'll find that there are still quite of bit of these buildings around; some being used as historical locations while others are being used as a functioning house. The Paranormal By Benjamin Radford This article by Benjamin Radford expresses err in belief of the paranormal by presenting the argument that ghost hunters frequent mistakes in their investigations, thus rendering their results invalid. Any belief in ghost–like creatures cannot be considered as legitimate because the evidence is not legitimate. He claims that ghost hunting does not require any kind of professional license, so any results are a product of effectiveness rather than skill. Furthermore, when findings are interpreted, investigators tend to disregard any alternative explanation and heed to the emotions of the supposed victims, which injects bias into any evidence that is collected. They're not very well understood. You don't know what they want from you. So it's the kind of thing you don't even know how to defend yourself against. Anything that's unknown and mysterious is very scary.'" Controversial topics range from global tragedies to the newest video game. One that has lived for centuries, is whether or not the supernatural and paranormal exist. Like every discussion, there are believers, and there are skeptics. Scientists tend to be the skeptics, while those with an adventurous mind tend to be those who believe that some other–world being exist. Scientists use experimentation to give explanations as to why someone would have a paranormal experience, and most have been successful in what they were proving, but those who are believers also give excellent points to why their experiences have no scientific proof with them making it hard to choose a side. Since the dawn of time, there were ghosts, and every person has their own belief, but many might not know for sure because of the variety of explanations. French from the University of London calls belief in ghosts a "misinterpretation of natural phenomena" (French, October 2014, para 1). He explains that from a psychological perspective, it is almost impossible to believe in such an idea. Modern neuroscience has concluded that no consciousness could survive ... • 25. Fears Of The Supernatural During The Elizabethan Era Fears of the Supernatural During the Elizabethan Era, many strange superstitions became common around Europe. Some of these are still evident in society today. Why do people think that black cats mean bad luck? Why do people say "God bless you," after somebody sneezes? And what does this have to do with ghosts? During the Shakespearean time period, superstitions were caused by the creation of ghost stories, provoked greatly by plays, and were blamed for misfortune. The word superstition is often used very loosely, and should first be defined, before being used. "Derived from super 'above', and stare 'to stand', the Latin Superstitio signifies a 'standing over' or 'survival', describing an irrational or a credulous attitude towards magico–religious beliefs and practices in a modern civilized community long after these primitive ideas and customs have been abandoned by the more sophisticated section of society" (James 289). The exact definition of the word "superstition," from the Gale database, tells us that the belief in superstitions was popular long after society had cast aside the thoughts from society. During this time, the belief of superstitions was growing more, as was the creation of plays and ghost stories. The belief in superstitions was caused mostly by ghost stories. One of the most famous ghost stories is that of Queen Isabella of France. The upper rooms (of Castle Rising) are said to be haunted by the ghost of one of the castle's most notorious former ... Or have the power go out when there's a not even a storm? Or maybe even had some disappearing objects... Well this could be the result of a Poltergeist. We believe that Poltergeists are real. (MOLLY) Poltergeist hauntings have been going on for a very long time. Several historical poltergeist cases have been well documented. One of the first poltergeist cases was the Thornton Heath Poltergeist Case. One August night the family was woken in the middle of the night by their radio, which had somehow turned itself on. The radio was turned to the foreign language station. At christmas time an ornament was taken off the tree by an unseen presence, and thrown a the fathers forehead. Near new years eve footsteps were heard in the attic. Accounts of poltergeist encounters have been happening since this time. People in history probably wouldn't lie about there being a ghost in their house. If it was just a made up thing how would so many people have evidence of poltergeist? So do you believe poltergeists are real? (CLAIRE) Poltergeists center people usually that are teens. Their attacks are usually towards people that have sadness in their life and depression. The Birmingham Police have over 100 recorded reports of unexplainable activity that has been experienced by people while at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama over the years. And those are just the ones that have been reported. Between the years of 1882 to 1971 Sloss Furnace, and its employees, were tasked with turning coal and ore into steel. That steel went on to shape the industrial revolution, from New York skyscrapers, to bridges in the south, Sloss Furnace had a hand in it all. • 35. Difference Between Supernatural And Supernatural In today's production of films, ghosts and paranormal beings are a popular topic. However, even with today's modern science, there is no legitimate proof of ghosts or spirits. When unexplainable things happen when no one else is around, the idea of a paranormal being might seem rational. Despite the speculation of the phenomenon, what exactly is paranormal activity and how do residual areas become haunted by these spirits? The terms "supernatural" and "paranormal" are often confused. Supernatural is relating more to faith or something we cannot completely comprehend or prove with our sciences. Where–as paranormal is something that cannot be explained with current knowledge and technology, but most likely has a scientific reason for why it's happening. (Kelly) The difference between both supernatural and paranormal has to do with being able to explain and understand the paranormal with whatever available science. Religion might often be pushed into the category for supernatural, as with the science available, we cannot fully explain ideologies of religion. With the paranormal, mediocre equipment is used to supposedly make contact with the supernatural. It's believed that the supernatural will eventually be able to be explained with advanced science. There have been many reports of residual areas all around Kansas that have been determined as either haunted or rich with paranormal activity. Samhain is a festival that is celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd. Samhain is a time of the year that celebrates the last harvest before the winter comes, and is dedicated to the "Lord of the Dead" (Guiley 19). The Celt's believe that the dead will come out of their final resting place and mess with the crops. Also, it is believed that communication with the dead is easier during Samhain. It is said that the veil that separates the living from the dead is at its thinnest during this time. The Lord of the Dead holds a sentencing of spirits, where if they were good they can exist in the form of a human, and if they were bad, the form of an animal. Offerings of food and drink are made to the Lord of the Dead so he would not be so severe in his sentencing. Many Celt's would dress up on Samhain to confuse the spirits that were roaming around so they wouldn't stop, but continue to pass them by (Guiley 19). When I first came to St. Albans I was working with merchandising. At that time I was afraid of the dark hallways and empty rooms of the old asylum. • 71. Ghost Real Research Paper The team of investigators is finished recording for today. They begin reviewing the footage and come across a strange sound that was not witnessed at the time of recording. Ghosts are considered to be spirits of deceased people. They are known to possess objects and haunt people. Their existence is very controversial because there is little evidence in order to prove they are real. Ghosts are real because there is photographic evidence, auditory evidence, and there is no way to prove that they are not real. There is photographic evidence for the existence of ghosts. Paranormal investigators have uncovered old photos, that could not have been edited at the time in which was being taken, with a ghost photobombing it (Cryptid). Photographs taken ... These people say that images can be edited and photoshopped to make it appear that there is a ghost in it, however, nowadays it is easier to edit photos, but when photography was first invented, it was nearly impossible to edit the pictures. They also claim that Audio recordings are fake and just made to entertain people, however, true paranormal investigators spend hours upon hours of recording suspicious, haunted places and most people are amateurs that do not fully understand the process of hunting ghosts. Their last counter point is that if there is no way to prove the existence of ghosts, then why try to prove their existence if they cannot be proven. If you haven't already guessed it these are some examples of paranormal activity. Good morning Ms. Bozzelli and fellow classmates, today I will be talking to you about paranormal activity, how they could be found, what they are capable of, and haunted locations. People always hear about ghosts and some maybe have witnessed one, however one common question is how are they spotted and what gadgets are used? One tool used to hunt ghosts is a ambient temperature sensor. This is used to indicate temperature changes and see if there are abnormal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When you've visited this location, have you ever felt like there was the feel of energy or an extra presence with you? If you were asking yourself is the R.O.M haunted? The answer to that would be yes. The first owner of this museum was Charles Currelly, he worked at there for 35 years and retired in 1946. Charles passed away in 1957, however his spirit has not left the building. The museum workers have claimed that they have seen Charles wandering around on the main floor in a nightshirt. Also there has been a museum next door that is now closed because there was apparently a little girl's spirit who say with the live audience when shows were going on. Ghosts have been a controversial debate for a while now and there is no scientific proof to their existence. However many people so seem to have the belief they are out there. People have retold several stories and personal experiences proving that ghosts are a living thing. If it is proven in the future that the existence of ghosts are not real, it could be a good thing knowing that there is nothing harmful out after us. Although if ghosts do exist it would be cool to be able to communicate with the dead and have their spirits in our presence. Do you believe in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Descriptive Essay On Haunted House If there was one thing that has grasped my attention as much as it caused me nightmares, it was haunted houses. Not the type of haunted houses that pop up around Halloween and frighten you with organized jump scares. I mean real haunted houses with a backstory. The kind where someone ended up being murdered on the property and the person's spirit lingers years later. That's what I am on the search for. My interest started after I had accidently watched My Paranormal Encounter while channel surfing at the age of 10. Ever since that day I've been doing research on paranormal activity: attempting to discover a way to conquer my fear. It's been a decade since I first began and myself, along with a few friends, have been preparing for almost a year to further my research by visiting a real haunted house. Convincing myself that I was ready for this was more difficult than convincing the others involved. Even now as I sit in the back of some beat up van I feel like we should go back. I shifted my attention from the view of cornfields outside the window to the front where Tony and Cheryl sat jamming out to some song by Guns n' Roses with the windows down. They started waving their hands around like fools, attempting to keep everyone lively since we had been on the empty road for several hours without stopping much. Behind me, Kurt opened the mini cooler, which sat upon miscellaneous crumbs that had always coated the colorless carpet, and snickered. "Who wants a Coke?" he hollered to ... • 77. The Night The Ghost Got In Has one ever witnessed a paranormal encounter? "The Night the Ghost Got In" is written by James Thurber and takes place November 17, 1915. Footsteps are heard down stairs and each family member has a different theory on what is making those footsteps. Like any family things get out of hand fast. James Thurber delivers a great tale on paranoia, the struggle of PTSD while adding some humor. Paranoia is a common feeling in the story. Everyone can relate to a time when a door closed unexpectedly, or unexplainable noises can were heard. So many thoughts of what it could be can lead people to paranoia. When the boy in the story first hears the footsteps, he just assumes it's a ghost. The paranoia builds up when he wakes his brother up to investigate the ghost. The mother then wakes and hears the noise, but instead of a ghost she thought it was burglars. The mothers paranoia escalates quickly and the cops show up. Then the grandfathers paranoia of deserters leads him to shooting a cop. By the end of the night no one knows what happen and what the cause of the noise was. Also, no one really rationally thought about things and what other possibilities the noise could be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Night the Ghost Got In, Thurber used humor to lessen the serious condition called PTSD. Back in 1915 PTSD was not a known condition. In the story Thurber has the grandfather suffer from PTSD. He thought the policemen were deserters and tries to shoot them (page 3). Deserters were people who abandoned duty without permission. Many soldiers in the war did not like deserters and therefore why the grandfather tried to shoot them. He even has a gun next to him (page 3). Some people may have a grandfather that also, has PTSD and has acted the same way. This is a way to connect with the reader and relate. PTSD is a serious condition, that when one hears about it they only hear the horrible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
