The Four Major Components Of The Communication-Persuasive...
The communication–persuasion paradigm has four major facets, which include the sender, message,
target, and effect. The sender is a critical component of the communication–persuasion paradigm in
the sense that a persuasive communication process depends, in part, on the characteristics of the
sender (Jowett, & O'donnell, 2014). People place expectations on others based on a range of factors,
which can be social, political, economic, professional, and moral. As such, there are people who can
be described as famous or trendsetters on the mentioned grounds. The persuasiveness of a piece of
information is determined by the level of fame or respect that the sender of such a message enjoys
among a group of people (Dubois, Rucker, & Galinsky, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a message about delivering the selves from the oppression of a regime presented
without many facts are highly persuasive when the target is the oppressed population. Generally, the
levels of reasoning of the target and his or her abilities in understanding the information and any
possible consequences are important in achieving the outcome. The target is important because he or
she is the one generating feedback, which is crucial in understanding whether the message reached
the right person as intended. Additionally, it is significant because it is useful in assessing the effects
of the communicated information. Lastly, the persuasiveness of a communication process depends
on the effects it has caused (Jowett, & O'donnell, 2014). The effect is evaluated in light of the
changes that are observed since the communication was made and the feedback that has been
provided by the receiver. For example, the percentages of voter turnout in a certain area when their
political kingpin advises them not to participate in voting.
The effectiveness of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in persuading people, particularly the African
Americans was a factor of him as a trendsetter source, the appealing nature of the contents of his
messages, and the carefully selected intended targets (Arceneaux, Johnson, & Cryderman,

The Future of Scholarship Essay
The Future of Scholarship
Introduction:
The development and rapid movement in the field of technology has changed the face of modern
society from what it was twenty years ago. Information and communication technologies have
changed dramatically even in the last ten years. Electronic mail, listservs, and the Internet, to name a
few, are all parts of the new technology that is re–defining scholarly communication. In her article
entitled "Scholarly Communication" Christine Borgman states that "[r]esearch was clustered around
three variables: producers of the communication . . ., artifacts of communication . . . and
communication concepts." (146) The impact of the new communication technologies to scholarly
communication cannot be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The division of knowledge into disciplines, however, doesn't impose a pre–ordained order and
doesn't easily transfer to the modern workplace. Many reports have stressed the importance of
incorporating interdisciplinarity into the undergraduate experience at the research university." (13)
Elsewhere she states that "[d]isciplinarity is specialized scientific exploration of a particular
homogenous subject matter, producing new knowledge and making obsolete old knowledge.
Therefore, disciplinary activity results in continuous formulations and reformulations of the present
body of knowledge about the subject matter." (Coleman "The New Scholarship" 1) With this in
mind, interdisciplinarity occurs when "curricula and/or research and innovation are organized
around a problem that is too broad to be studied/solved using just the methods and knowledge in one
discipline (Coleman "Interdisciplinarity" 9) When such a problem is addressed within the scholarly
community, interdisciplinarity leads directly into collaboration. Maria Bordons and Isabel Gomez
define scientific collaboration as "two or more scientists working together on a joint research
project, sharing intellectual, economic and/or physical resources." (198) This definition however,
can easily be expanded to all areas of the scholarly community.
As more and more interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching and research occurs, there

My object during this course was a short video commercial with thematic line of "More Rice" with
implicit meaning that when someone serving you with rice and asks you for serving with more rice
it means that he/she wants to spent more time with you or he/she really take care of you. The title of

love and affection for working mothers who serve their children well and always care for their
health and education, grow them up and make them able to compete in the world for a better life

Importance Of Writing On Communication
Conversational Writing Today, technology is continuously advancing. Computers, cell phones, and
tablets are becoming lighter, faster, and more accessible. As we now have access to many more
communicative devices, our rate of communication with others has greatly increased. But, the ways
of conversing are changing. In the past, conversation was the exchange of ideas, sentiments,
observations, and findings through face–to–face interactions. Now, conversation happens through
texts, emails, and even social media. As the method of conversation has changed, has the way in
which we engage others remained the same? As our exposure to writing with technology advances,
it is important to fully comprehend the ways in which we enter writing through a conversational
lense rather than just an individual activity. As students, writing typically carries a different and old
way of communication. Many times, students are taught how to synthesize other's work in a formal
tone. In doing so, students enter into a conversation. As they attempt to enter into this conversation
through writing, what should they expect to gain? Writers should have a specific goal and motive in
order to engage a targeted audience. Margaret Kantz, a famous author explains the importance of
developing creativity from textual sources. In fact, Kantz states that writers should "have a goal of
saying something new" (Kantz, 436). In doing so, writers should attempt to enter into a conversation
with the intent to leave

Scholarly Journals On Scientific Communication
The publication of scientific work is critically important to scientific communication (Twaij et al.
2014). Scientists communicate their new research or studies to their audience by publishing their
work in scholarly journals and books. People who are not from the area of expertise or are
unfamiliar with the given topic must be able to trust in the credibility of published journal articles. A
common process that controls the high quality of scientific publication is called 'peer review', which
ensures that the published work has met the specific standards of a given discipline, a process that
usually begins with a professional reviewing of an author's article by a community of qualified
experts before publication. The reviewers are usually chosen from relevant academic fields and in
some cases, the authors are allowed to suggest names of their preferred peer reviewers (Bornmann
2011). The reviewer is responsible for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the paper, giving
constructive comments along with acceptance–revision–rejection decisions (Do 2003) to the author.
More importantly, the peer review process makes a substantial contribution to determine whether the
manuscript contains any "fatal" flaws (Brand 2012), such as plagiarism, duplicated research or even
wrong science. Therefore, peer review plays a critical role in scientific communication by improving
the quality of published papers. A survey conducted by Ware showed that a majority of authors

sectors. The way leaders in managerial positions communicate determines their effectiveness and
success in achieving high levels of performance and success in their organizations. There are
numerous books that provide an insight into effective leadership and communication. One of such
books is by Atwater and Waldman (2012). This paper provides a summary, contextual analysis and

including human resource management and organizational behavior, organizational leadership, and
organizational communication (Atwater & Waldman, 2012, pp. 62). The book explicitly explains
some of the major areas that are usually difficult to or less understood in leadership. For instance, it
outlines concepts such as sending and receiving feedback during open communication (Atwater &
Waldman, 2012, pp. 14). This is a topic in leadership that is regarded as multifarious and difficult to
understand, as it causes exigent dilemmas even at managerial level. The book supports its arguments
by citing evidence–based research, case examples, ideas, and practical suggestions. By doing so, it
equips current and future leaders with the necessary tools for preventing communication problems
and solving leadership dilemmas in their organizations. The book, based on its well supported
content and arguments, can be termed as a vital literary work that explains the concept of leadership
in many contexts. The book proceeds to support its arguments and suggestions on leadership with
evidence drawn from relevant psychological theories (Atwater & Waldman, 2012, pp. 101). The
book provides an excellent and well researched review and discussion of the key characteristics of
open communication. The characteristics are critical in leadership as managers use them to ensure

Abstract
The shift towards the use of electronic media in scholarly communication appears to be an
inescapable imperative. However, these shifts are uneven, both with respect to field and with respect
to the form of communication. Different scientific fields have developed and use distinctly different
communicative forums, both in the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see notable risks in a pure laissez–faire "let them work it out for themselves" approach. Large
amounts of money, resources, and effort are being committed (by government agencies, by
academic departments, by publishers, by professional societies, and by individual researchers) to the
development, maintenance, and promotion of various forms of communications technologies for use
in global science. However, in the absence of a valid theory of how scholarly fields adopt and shape
technology, scientists and policy–makers are left only with context–free models, and hence
resources may be committed to projects that are not self–sustainable, that wither, and that do not
effectively improve the scientific communications system of the field. The consequences may not
only be sub–optimal use of financial resources, but also wasted effort on the part of individual
researchers, and even data languishing in marginal, decaying, and dead systems and formats. The
purpose of this JASIS perspectives article is to deepen our understanding of the future of electronic
communications in science. It is difficult to predict the longterm future, as too many contingencies
can and will shape long–term outcomes to make meaningful predictions. One may casually predict
that that many if not all research journals will issue electronic editions in the 21st century; however,
more complex issues about the role of

The academic article was written as a way to publish results of a study. It quickly laid out the

all the methods and statistics that were collected, and what conclusions were made. It mainly
focused on how energy drinks can lead to the drinking of more and various sugar– based drinks.

How much time do you think went into the creation of each of these sources? Think about the
process it took the author to find the information, write, and get the material published? Is there any
oversight (for example, an editor) before getting the material published?
I believe all three of these had some type of editing involved but to different extents. Obviously the
academic article would have gone through a peer review process in order to be published. The
academic article would have taken much longer to complete than the other two.
The magazine article would have taken some time to publish as it is a quarterly magazine (although
if this article was only published online this might not be relevant), and it would have had a good
amount of editing. There is an editor whose job is to help decide what gets published and what
doesn't but this process most likely lets through more than the same process in the academic world
does. The author had many sources and took his time writing covering the issue in a thorough
manner.
The news article had to get information from multiple sources and sort through the data of a
scientific study. This would have taken sometime and the editing process some more. This could
have taken some days or weeks to finish. It had only approximately 500 fewer words than the
magazine

A Research Study On Network Density While Managing...
It is quite impossible for a student to do his/her PhD in isolation. PhD is a research degree and prime
objective of the PhD research is to contribute to building scholarship of a field of study. As in most
cases, PhD students should work with a mentor or a group of mentors building networks is
necessary to facilitate such collaborative ventures in the academia.
In order to build networks in my field, I approach my mentors and fellow researchers whether I can
be a part of their research. Apart from that I always look for the opportunities to attend conferences
and seminars to be introduced with scholars in the field of my interest. Conference and seminars are
very useful means to build networks as many scholars share their contacts and research interests to
each other. I pick those scholars from the conference brochures whose research interest matches
with my own interests. I try to contact them after the conference and show my interest to collaborate
with them in publishing.
It is important to think about network density while managing networks and getting desired results
of those. I have been able to keep full network density while building and managing networks with
the scholars working in academia. Comparing to that, networks with practitioners, community
workers and other professionals are not that much dense. It is quite natural for me to have more
density in academic networks as I work in academia and prefer to build cross relationships with
other people in

turnover. In the articles that I have analyzed, I discovered many examples of crisis communications
and its importance. I will discuss the Bridgestone–Firestone Corporation's image restoration
campaign and explain Benoit's theory of image restoration. Also, I will discuss how crisis
communications fits into public relations models. Two examples for discussion will be how
supervisors should convey bad–news to their employees, and group communication within
employee turnover. My last example for this discussion will be Bill Clinton's image repair discourse.

different types of bad news, and the different strategies that were used. Wagoner and Waldron
applied a politeness theory to this study concluding that "the nature of the face threat inherent in a
bad news event should be reliably associated with the use of redressive strategies." (p. 201) The
authors finish their study by stating that "no doubt leaders and followers adjust their behavior during
these episodes based on their relational and communicative history and the anticipated relational
consequences of the event." (p. 207) This study conducted gives a good view on crisis
communications within the work place. This type of communication is important to ease tension and
allow for a positive working environment. Without companies being aware of positive crisis

What is Discourse?
When I began the quarter I had no previous any knowledge about "discourse", as the quarter
progressed I have learned a lot about this idea of discourse. Although there are a lot of different
ideas of what "discourse", I think they share some common things. You become a member of an
institution or group, that share similarities and have a specific goals to accomplish that pertain to
literacy. You have to be able to work as a group to make sure you accomplish these common goals.
There are a couple of things that they have in common. First of all you have to have lexis, which is
important in able to communicate and have these special language . This allows you to distinguish
yourself from other communities, and allows you to communicate with the members of the group. If
you don't understand the lexis, than you will not be accepted by the group. Another important part is
having one or more genres, which is important to make sure that the goals of the group get met. The
last thing that I think is important is that you having boundaries or rules, that people know are not
okay to do. For example, in an academic community everyone would agree that plagiarism is
completely wrong and accepted. These are a couple of things that I found present throughout all the
articles I read.
My favorite scholarly article so far has been, " Discourse Communities and Communities of
Practice: Membership, Conflict, and Diversity" by Ann M. Johns. John's communities of practice, I

Examples Of Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is very important in terms of an individual completing his or her work. In other
words, the individual should be completely honest and do their best to complete their work without
plagiarism or finding an easy way to get the job done. It is considered unethical to do something that
prevents an individual from being honest about their work. For example, John is worried about
getting a D in his Spanish class if he does not do well on his midterm. His GPA will also be affected
if he gets a D. On the day of his midterm, Jane, a student in John's Spanish class, sits by him. She
notices that he is looking at papers in his backpack secretively and assumes he is cheating. However,
Jane does not know what to do due to the fact that John helped her on a project the previous
semester. If Jane were to ask me how I would handle the situation, I would recommend that she

Communication Accommodation Theory: Intergroup Theory Of...
Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) is an intergroup theory of interpersonal
communication. Communication Accommodation Theory has sparked a great deal of research over
the past five decades, with parallel and intersecting traditions of experimental, survey, and
discourse–based research examining the dynamics of communication. Social distance plays a large
role in our communicative lives and can be understood through two key concepts: convergence and
divergence. Convergence refers to ways in which we can use communication to overcome forms of
social distance. Depending on the specific communicative context, convergence can come in several
ways, including identifiable metaphors, narratives, and anecdotes, or even nonverbal forms of
communication, such as body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People accommodated their communication while interacting with a person who has higher
standards and other characteristics which they believe is better than them. And the divergent exhibits
an opposite characteristic as it emphasizes the difference among the close relations with each other.
Communication accommodation theory is influenced by social psychology and is guided by four
major assumptions. While communicating there will be similarity and difference in the speech and
behavior. The characteristics that people exhibit is based on our experiences and the cultural
backgrounds that we grew up in. A conversation is evaluated by understanding the perception of the
speech and behavior of the other. Through evaluation, people decides to accommodate and fit in.
The social status and belonging are determined by language and behaviors. While people
communicate, they tend to accommodate the behaviors of those who are in the higher social status
than them. This theory guides and defines the behaviors of people the accommodation process

Australia. Dr. Arli is highly qualified and experienced in conducting studies using different
methodologies like depth interviews, systematic reviews and surveys. The article examines how
features of social media impact on consumer attitudes towards social media and how this affects
people's loyalty to brands. The researcher found out that entertainment has the biggest impact on the
attitudes of the consumers towards social media activity of a brand. The findings of the study also
suggest that the informativeness and usefulness of social media positively affect attitudes of the
consumers. The author of the article demonstrated that the attitude

Sprott Learning Goal
The learning goal 'Communications Capabilities' requires "students ... to prepare and present well–
organized and effective reports on business issues using appropriate supportive technologies" (cite
sprott learning). Over the course of the month of January, I have experienced different events that
have enhanced my learning in this area. These events fall under the first, third, and fourth learning
objectives of Communications Capabilities.
The third objective requires students to "demonstrate professionalism when interacting with peers,
faculty, and business professionals in formal and informal business settings" (cite sprott learning). I
exhibited a professional demeanor in my informal group meetings with my Capsim group. As a
group member, it is expected that one must act professionally with his or her peers, but as the CEO
of my group I have learned to put even further stress on my professionalism. In my influential
position, I am expected to lead my group with orders and by example and in order to gain the trust
and support of my group members, it is paramount that I conduct myself in a manner that reflects
the values of myself (as a student and a leader), our group, and particularly the values of Sprott. I
demonstrated my professionalism when I introduced all of our Capsim group members to each
other, as I was responsible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

group to present our ideas in the briefing note, and as a group we had to effectively communicate to

Essay on Academic vs Mainstream Writing
There are many differences between articles written for scholars and articles written for popular
audiences. According to Anne Johns, the author of "Discourse Communities and Communities of
Practice," there are ten conventions or moves that exist only in academic prose and when violated,
author is seen as an outsider of the discourse community. John Swales ("Create a Research Space"
(CARS) Model Research Introductions) and Ken Hyland also talk about writing and the similarities
between all academic writing in "Create a Research Space" (CARS) Model Research Instructions
and "Disciplinary Courses". Based on research by Swales, Hyland, and Johns on academic writing,

"Koreans use the term "hallyu" to describe the phenomenon. It refers to the "Korean Wave" of
entertainment that has swept across the shores of almost every single country in the region, even
increasingly beyond" (Farrar 1).
The passages above are saying essentially the same thing, however, the one published by CNN is
not as detailed as the scholarly one, and it only gives enough information for readers to know what
the Korean Wave is. Also, in academic articles there are no pictures because unlike popular writers,
scholars do not rely on pictures as a medium of capturing their readers' attention or interest them in
reading the article.
The Structure of Mainstream Articles Mainstream articles tend to be 1–3 pages long, but page length
is not the only difference from academic articles. Headlines are also a big aspect in popular as it is
one of the mediums used to get people to read the article, even though at times the headline may not
always be related to the content of the article. In popular articles you will see pictures and for online
magazines you also see advertisements for different products, this is because unlike scholars,
mainstream writers depend

Humpback Whale Communication
Whales are highly intelligent creatures and possess many human like qualities such as the ability to
teach, learn, cooperate, and grieve. They communicate using echolocation, by which sounds are able
to travel for miles as the sound waves propagate in the water (Whale Communication and
Vocalizations, 2015). The sounds will echo back to the whale that sends them and this form of
communication can travel at a speed of one mile per second. Different species of whales take on
various forms of communication as is evident by the humpback whale, Megaptera novaeangliae,
who communicate by singing. Both male and female humpback whales vocalize, but only the males
produce the characteristically loud and complex "song" with distinct themes and melodies ... Show

The communication between humpback whales of different regions is shown by a pattern of
horizontal transmission of multiple song types in an unidirectional pattern eastward through the
populations in the western and South Pacific over an 11–year period displays (Murray et al., 2012).
"Most song types were first documented in the eastern Australian population and spread to New
Caledonia and Tonga, and then on to American Samoa, the Cook Islands, and finally to French
Polynesia" (Garland et al., 2011). This example of cultural transmission of behavior was replicated
in multiple populations in a vast geographic region and the level and rate of change of this cultural
transmission is unparalleled by any other nonhuman animal (Murray et al., 2012). The vocal linkage
between the Indian and South Pacific Ocean basins raises the question of how far a single song type
can be horizontally transmitted and how adaptive humpback whales are to change in their habitat
(Southern Indian ocean humpback whales found singing different tunes, 2015). Investigating the
underlying mechanisms of song evolution may allow insights into the transmission of cultural traits
and the evolution of culture and behavior in humpback

Infidelity And Relationships
To gain more insight on how social media can cause infidelity in relationships, I searched "social
media impact on relationships" and an article, written in the summer of 2015, by Lori Ann Wagner,
and published by the Journal of Individual Psychology caught my eye. Wagner's article, "When Your
Smartphone Is Too Smart for Your Own Good: How Social Media Alters Human Relationships"
argues that mediated communication is changing the way that humans interact with each other.
Wagner states that humans desire social connections and the easiest way to meet those needs are
through social media. Humans use their five senses –– touch, taste, see, hear, and smell –– to really
understand their environment around them. Social media interferes with our ... Show more content

I completely agree with that statement. When one is put in the same shoes as another, they can see
and feel the same emotions that the other portrays. Empathy is important because it bonds the
human connections. Another major point of Wagner's article was that social media can cause less
honest relationships. This is another statement that I found to be true. It is so easy to lie and scam
over the internet because anyone can take the identity of everyone since mediated communication
can block our full understanding of the environment. To debate with her statements, the reason why
"People today generally prefer 'mediated communication' rather than personal interaction..."
(Wagner 116) is because communication between this generation is very different from the past
generations who have not grown up with this much technology or social media. In other words, it is
much more simple to have little conversations over technology than to meet face–to–face every time
someone has to say something. Also, I believe that social media allows a broader spectrum for
communicating with family and loved ones. Wagner also thinks that " obsessions with texting,
updating statuses, and using Snapchat are sounding a death knell for real conversation" (Wagner
116) but I think that deep and

The Importance Of Parental Involvement In Education
Parents are a primary role in their child's developing stages of life, especially education. Even if they
do not realize it, parents play a major part in whether their child succeeds academically or not.
Studies have been done to demonstrate the need for parental involvement in children's school life;
the question is how involved should parents be. There are multiple views on how involved a parent
should be in their child's education. Children need a support system to help guide them throughout
their school career; the argument between many is how involved parents should be in their child's
academics. There are differing views on how involved parents should be in their child's education.
Some people believe that parents should be majorly involved in their child's education because it
promotes learning positively and results in higher test scores. Those who believe this viewpoint
argue that parents can be involved intensely in helping with homework. There are differing opinions
within the pro–parent involvement category, including some that think parents communicating and
supporting is important, but not controlling their child. The opposing view believes that parents
should allow their children to discover their strengths and weaknesses academically. Some argue
this means little to no parental involvement, while others say that minor involvement such as
encouragement is acceptable. Students in English 131 should care about this topic because it applies
to their education

Personal Theories Of Ethnocentrism And Conformity Orientation
Personal theories are individual theories of communication that help people describe and explain a
myriad of circumstances, experiences, and interactions with others. Not everyone's personal theories
are the same, however, each personal theory contains fundamental communicational applications or
concepts; these applications are the backbone of personal theories. Scholarly theories are similar to
personal theories however scholarly theories provide objective explanations on communication My
personal theory on my relationship with my family applies to the concepts of ethnocentrism and
conformity orientation, while my tendency to avoid the term "one day," applies to the concepts of
self–development and monochronic time.
When I was younger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Approximately two years ago, I realized that "one day" is a very arbitrary phrase. I was promised
that "one day" I would reunite with one of my dearest friends, however, as the months passed, I
received not a single word. Months turned into years and to my disappointment, the reunion never
happened. Therefore, one day is synonymous with never. From then and on, I replace "one day"
with the phrase, "one of these days" because then it doesn't imply that it is never going to happen; it
implies that it will happen, but not just right now. My personal theory best exemplifies self–
development which is essentially another aspect of individual communication. An individual
undergoes self–development from his or her earliest of interactions. In this respect, the individual
learns from his or her experiences. My personal theory embodies this principle because from my
experience of the term "one day," I have realized how often individuals utilize it in their vernacular
and they always never follow through on their "one day" promises. Additionally, my personal theory
applies to the concept of monochronic time. When individuals pay attention to and do solely one
activity at a time is monochronic time. I live in monochronic culture and I behave according to
monochronic time, and my interpretation of "one day" or "one of these days," is simply my effort to

Communication can be defined as intentional or deliberate actions that influence and impact a

As I reflect on the process of writing this rhetoric analytic research paper on two different scholarly

no clue how to do it until we were granted the rhetoric worksheets. It was a challenge writing this
paper because prior to the peer review, I did not choose the appropriate articles. I had two from the

articles' context, the overall purpose of the articles, and the articles' exigency, or relevancy.
The scholarly article, Dressed and Groomed for Success in Elementary School Student Appearance
and Academic Adjustment is written by Caroline Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Cote–Lussier, and Clancy
Blair. This scholarly, peer–reviewed article is about how instructor's negative perceptions, biases,
and academic adjustments for their students can not only hinder student's potential in the classroom,
but also their outlook on schools, specifically in elementary grades.
The second scholarly article, Critical Race Theory and Whiteness of Teacher Education is written by

Whiteness within it and how the targeted audience can be challenged.
Due to the fact that the articles are different, then the purposes for these articles differ. The purpose
of the first article is to see how "theory and research suggest that students' academic experiences are
likely to be associated with their general appearance and demeanor" (Fitpatrick et al. 32). It is to
inform the audience of teachers and policy makers, on how teachers are pre–judging their students

In addition, there are a number of initiatives designed to reproduce classic and modern texts by

countries is steadily increasing. [4] Curiously though, the EJS remains virtually the only journal
devoted to sociology on the internet. At the time of this writing, the Yahoo index [5], generally
considered the most comprehensive index for the WWW, of Sociology Journals contains two

The Importance Of Poverty In Literature
The way things are written can have an effect on the audience drawn in. Most people are used to
generalized, every day vocabulary, as opposed to more complex and intricate words and grammar.
When reading an article, the easier the words are to interpret, the easier the article is to read.
However, this is not always the case. Sometimes, papers are going to be written using more
advanced vocabulary. They may even include data in the form of charts and tables. This is when it
gets harder for a general audience to read and interpret. It may be more accurate and scientific, but is
it too complex for people the comprehend? For example, there is a controversial topic of poverty on
the rise. Some people believe it is due to how one grows up, others believe it is the lack of
compensation, and some even believe it all deals with race. The two articles, "What Do We Think
Poverty Looks Like?", written by Tracie McMillan, and, "Poverty, Race, and the Contexts of
Achievement: Examining Education Experiences of Children in the U.S. South", written by Maryah
Stela Fram, Julie E. Miller–Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn, reveal thoughts on what contributes to
poverty. The difference is, these two articles are using two very different genres. The scholarly
article, written by Maryah Stella Fram, Julie E. Miller–Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn focuses on poverty
and what social workers can do to minimize the effects. The writers of this article chose to focus on

Informative Essay On Social Media
Technological advances in our world over the past decade have impacted our society tremendously.
With these advances have come new social media websites that people all around the world use in
their everyday life. Social media started out as a means of communication from person to person but
has drastically grown to be even a source of news and a reporting channel. The world can be
updated on events that occur within seconds through the use of websites and cellular apps with the
most popular today being Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The increased speed of reporting news
and other things however does not necessarily determine all things posted via social media to be
valid. With the click of a few buttons on your phone, anybody has the capability to post a status or
tweet that has the potential of being viewed by thousands to millions of people. The article Tweeting
Fast Matters, But Only if I Think About It: Information Updates on Social Media uses the popular
platform Twitter in a study to determine whether or not there is a correlation between the speed of
updates and how people determine source credibility (Spence, Lachlan, & Edwards, 55). Twitter and
other social media platforms are useful in reporting news fast and keeping people connected but not
all information shared online should be assumed true. Twitter is a social media platform that allows
people to post messages or "tweets" publically with the option for others to reply to the message.

Why Do We Use Social Networking Sites Ruining Community?
"Internet and mobile technology seems to be subtly destroying the meaningfulness of interactions
we have with others, disconnecting us from the world around us, and leading to an imminent sense
of isolation in today's society" (Nilles, 2012). The 'real world' in my considerations is decades ago
we used to go in person to speak to someone yet now with enhanced technology we can address to
someone with one click through social networking sites. We send wishes, information and
condolences all through text and messages as before we used to go in person to send these thoughts.
The basic social networking websites being accessed at school concludes to be a risk factor that
affects the students and the environment around them. Social networking is frequently turning into a
swap for building and setting up associations in our society today and on a very basic level it's
leading to negative impacts. Human connections are rich and chaotic. We tend to choose technology
as a way to communicate rather than conversation for mere connection. (Turkle, 2012). In this paper
I am going to discuss about recently developed social networking websites are destroying

Many laypersons and experts feel texting can be very detrimental to an individual's ability to write a
proper piece of formal writing free from textspeak. Texting has become the primary way of
communication, and the abbreviated way that words in texts are created it could logically be correct.
Individuals that predominantly text, especially during foundation periods could have a difficult time
adjusting their style to create scholarly writing needed in their education and potential job markets.
Michaela Cullington addressed this subject in her essay "Does Texting Affect Writing". Cullington
suggests that texting is not as detrimental to formal writing as some believe. Cullington states,
"Many experts would agree that there is no harm in textspeak, as long as students continue to be
taught and reminded that occasions where formal language is expected are not the place for it"
(Cullington). Cullington conducted her own research that revealed parallel results of the experts
featured in her essay. The detrimental effects of texting can be minimized by the reinforcement of
correct scholarly writing by parents and educators particularly during crucial foundational periods. I

and formal writing, however I am concerned that we are seeing the first generations of

The Four Major Components Of The Communication-Persuasive...

  • 1. The Four Major Components Of The Communication-Persuasive... The communication–persuasion paradigm has four major facets, which include the sender, message, target, and effect. The sender is a critical component of the communication–persuasion paradigm in the sense that a persuasive communication process depends, in part, on the characteristics of the sender (Jowett, & O'donnell, 2014). People place expectations on others based on a range of factors, which can be social, political, economic, professional, and moral. As such, there are people who can be described as famous or trendsetters on the mentioned grounds. The persuasiveness of a piece of information is determined by the level of fame or respect that the sender of such a message enjoys among a group of people (Dubois, Rucker, & Galinsky, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a message about delivering the selves from the oppression of a regime presented without many facts are highly persuasive when the target is the oppressed population. Generally, the levels of reasoning of the target and his or her abilities in understanding the information and any possible consequences are important in achieving the outcome. The target is important because he or she is the one generating feedback, which is crucial in understanding whether the message reached the right person as intended. Additionally, it is significant because it is useful in assessing the effects of the communicated information. Lastly, the persuasiveness of a communication process depends on the effects it has caused (Jowett, & O'donnell, 2014). The effect is evaluated in light of the changes that are observed since the communication was made and the feedback that has been provided by the receiver. For example, the percentages of voter turnout in a certain area when their political kingpin advises them not to participate in voting. The effectiveness of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in persuading people, particularly the African Americans was a factor of him as a trendsetter source, the appealing nature of the contents of his messages, and the carefully selected intended targets (Arceneaux, Johnson, & Cryderman, ... • 5. The Future of Scholarship Essay The Future of Scholarship Introduction: The development and rapid movement in the field of technology has changed the face of modern society from what it was twenty years ago. Information and communication technologies have changed dramatically even in the last ten years. Electronic mail, listservs, and the Internet, to name a few, are all parts of the new technology that is re–defining scholarly communication. In her article entitled "Scholarly Communication" Christine Borgman states that "[r]esearch was clustered around three variables: producers of the communication . . ., artifacts of communication . . . and communication concepts." The division of knowledge into disciplines, however, doesn't impose a pre–ordained order and doesn't easily transfer to the modern workplace. Many reports have stressed the importance of incorporating interdisciplinarity into the undergraduate experience at the research university." (13) Elsewhere she states that "[d]isciplinarity is specialized scientific exploration of a particular homogenous subject matter, producing new knowledge and making obsolete old knowledge. Therefore, disciplinary activity results in continuous formulations and reformulations of the present body of knowledge about the subject matter." (Coleman "The New Scholarship" 1) With this in mind, interdisciplinarity occurs when "curricula and/or research and innovation are organized around a problem that is too broad to be studied/solved using just the methods and knowledge in one discipline (Coleman "Interdisciplinarity" 9) When such a problem is addressed within the scholarly community, interdisciplinarity leads directly into collaboration. Maria Bordons and Isabel Gomez define scientific collaboration as "two or more scientists working together on a joint research project, sharing intellectual, economic and/or physical resources." (198) This definition however, can easily be expanded to all areas of the scholarly community. As more and more interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching and research occurs, there ... • 9. Importance Of Writing On Communication Conversational Writing Today, technology is continuously advancing. Computers, cell phones, and tablets are becoming lighter, faster, and more accessible. As we now have access to many more communicative devices, our rate of communication with others has greatly increased. But, the ways of conversing are changing. In the past, conversation was the exchange of ideas, sentiments, observations, and findings through face–to–face interactions. Now, conversation happens through texts, emails, and even social media. As the method of conversation has changed, has the way in which we engage others remained the same? As our exposure to writing with technology advances, it is important to fully comprehend the ways in which we enter writing through a conversational lense rather than just an individual activity. As students, writing typically carries a different and old way of communication. Many times, students are taught how to synthesize other's work in a formal tone. In doing so, students enter into a conversation. As they attempt to enter into this conversation through writing, what should they expect to gain? Writers should have a specific goal and motive in order to engage a targeted audience. Margaret Kantz, a famous author explains the importance of developing creativity from textual sources. In fact, Kantz states that writers should "have a goal of saying something new" (Kantz, 436). In doing so, writers should attempt to enter into a conversation with the intent to leave ... • 13. Scholarly Journals On Scientific Communication The publication of scientific work is critically important to scientific communication (Twaij et al. 2014). Scientists communicate their new research or studies to their audience by publishing their work in scholarly journals and books. People who are not from the area of expertise or are unfamiliar with the given topic must be able to trust in the credibility of published journal articles. A common process that controls the high quality of scientific publication is called 'peer review', which ensures that the published work has met the specific standards of a given discipline, a process that usually begins with a professional reviewing of an author's article by a community of qualified experts before publication. The reviewers are usually chosen from relevant academic fields and in some cases, the authors are allowed to suggest names of their preferred peer reviewers (Bornmann 2011). The reviewer is responsible for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the paper, giving constructive comments along with acceptance–revision–rejection decisions (Do 2003) to the author. More importantly, the peer review process makes a substantial contribution to determine whether the manuscript contains any "fatal" flaws (Brand 2012), such as plagiarism, duplicated research or even wrong science. Therefore, peer review plays a critical role in scientific communication by improving the quality of published papers. A survey conducted by Ware showed that a majority of authors (91%) ... There are numerous books that provide an insight into effective leadership and communication. One of such books is by Atwater and Waldman (2012). It also extensively focuses on open communication, which is applicable in numerous fields, including human resource management and organizational behavior, organizational leadership, and organizational communication (Atwater & Waldman, 2012, pp. 62). The book explicitly explains some of the major areas that are usually difficult to or less understood in leadership. For instance, it outlines concepts such as sending and receiving feedback during open communication (Atwater & Waldman, 2012, pp. 14). This is a topic in leadership that is regarded as multifarious and difficult to understand, as it causes exigent dilemmas even at managerial level. The book supports its arguments by citing evidence–based research, case examples, ideas, and practical suggestions. By doing so, it equips current and future leaders with the necessary tools for preventing communication problems and solving leadership dilemmas in their organizations. The book, based on its well supported content and arguments, can be termed as a vital literary work that explains the concept of leadership in many contexts. The book proceeds to support its arguments and suggestions on leadership with evidence drawn from relevant psychological theories (Atwater & Waldman, 2012, pp. 101). The book provides an excellent and well researched review and discussion of the key characteristics of open communication. The characteristics are critical in leadership as managers use them to ensure that all feedback, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Different scientific fields have developed and use distinctly different communicative forums, both in the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see notable risks in a pure laissez–faire "let them work it out for themselves" approach. Large amounts of money, resources, and effort are being committed (by government agencies, by academic departments, by publishers, by professional societies, and by individual researchers) to the development, maintenance, and promotion of various forms of communications technologies for use in global science. However, in the absence of a valid theory of how scholarly fields adopt and shape technology, scientists and policy–makers are left only with context–free models, and hence resources may be committed to projects that are not self–sustainable, that wither, and that do not effectively improve the scientific communications system of the field. The consequences may not only be sub–optimal use of financial resources, but also wasted effort on the part of individual researchers, and even data languishing in marginal, decaying, and dead systems and formats. The purpose of this JASIS perspectives article is to deepen our understanding of the future of electronic communications in science. In 1–2 paragraphs, please describe what you see as the major differences between these information sources. (Need help? Start with the key message, language, and writing style of each one.) The academic article was written as a way to publish results of a study. It quickly laid out the information it had to provide in a summary and then proceeded to be more detailed about the study, all the methods and statistics that were collected, and what conclusions were made. It mainly focused on how energy drinks can lead to the drinking of more and various sugar– based drinks. The news article seemed more like a discussion about sugary drinks and how it's linked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How much time do you think went into the creation of each of these sources? Think about the process it took the author to find the information, write, and get the material published? Is there any oversight (for example, an editor) before getting the material published? I believe all three of these had some type of editing involved but to different extents. Obviously the academic article would have gone through a peer review process in order to be published. The academic article would have taken much longer to complete than the other two. The magazine article would have taken some time to publish as it is a quarterly magazine (although if this article was only published online this might not be relevant), and it would have had a good amount of editing. There is an editor whose job is to help decide what gets published and what doesn't but this process most likely lets through more than the same process in the academic world does. The author had many sources and took his time writing covering the issue in a thorough manner. The news article had to get information from multiple sources and sort through the data of a scientific study. This would have taken sometime and the editing process some more. This could have taken some days or weeks to finish. It had only approximately 500 fewer words than the magazine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. A Research Study On Network Density While Managing... It is quite impossible for a student to do his/her PhD in isolation. PhD is a research degree and prime objective of the PhD research is to contribute to building scholarship of a field of study. As in most cases, PhD students should work with a mentor or a group of mentors building networks is necessary to facilitate such collaborative ventures in the academia. In order to build networks in my field, I approach my mentors and fellow researchers whether I can be a part of their research. Apart from that I always look for the opportunities to attend conferences and seminars to be introduced with scholars in the field of my interest. Conference and seminars are very useful means to build networks as many scholars share their contacts and research interests to each other. I pick those scholars from the conference brochures whose research interest matches with my own interests. I try to contact them after the conference and show my interest to collaborate with them in publishing. It is important to think about network density while managing networks and getting desired results of those. I have been able to keep full network density while building and managing networks with the scholars working in academia. Comparing to that, networks with practitioners, community workers and other professionals are not that much dense. It is quite natural for me to have more density in academic networks as I work in academia and prefer to build cross relationships with other people in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, I will discuss how crisis communications fits into public relations models. Although there are a lot of different ideas of what "discourse", I think they share some common things. You become a member of an institution or group, that share similarities and have a specific goals to accomplish that pertain to literacy. You have to be able to work as a group to make sure you accomplish these common goals. There are a couple of things that they have in common. First of all you have to have lexis, which is important in able to communicate and have these special language . This allows you to distinguish yourself from other communities, and allows you to communicate with the members of the group. If you don't understand the lexis, than you will not be accepted by the group. Another important part is having one or more genres, which is important to make sure that the goals of the group get met. The last thing that I think is important is that you having boundaries or rules, that people know are not okay to do. For example, in an academic community everyone would agree that plagiarism is completely wrong and accepted. These are a couple of things that I found present throughout all the articles I read. My favorite scholarly article so far has been, " Discourse Communities and Communities of Practice: Membership, Conflict, and Diversity" by Ann M. Johns. Communication Accommodation Theory has sparked a great deal of research over the past five decades, with parallel and intersecting traditions of experimental, survey, and discourse–based research examining the dynamics of communication. Social distance plays a large role in our communicative lives and can be understood through two key concepts: convergence and divergence. The sounds will echo back to the whale that sends them and this form of communication can travel at a speed of one mile per second. Different species of whales take on various forms of communication as is evident by the humpback whale, Megaptera novaeangliae, who communicate by singing. This is another statement that I found to be true. It is so easy to lie and scam over the internet because anyone can take the identity of everyone since mediated communication can block our full understanding of the environment. To debate with her statements, the reason why "People today generally prefer 'mediated communication' rather than personal interaction..." From then and on, I replace "one day" with the phrase, "one of these days" because then it doesn't imply that it is never going to happen; it implies that it will happen, but not just right now. My personal theory best exemplifies self– development which is essentially another aspect of individual communication. Also, organizing the paper was difficult because I was not sure how to exactly write a rhetoric paper on articles. After the peer review, I received great advice on how I can ... Although these two articles are scholarly and educational, they do differ in conditions like the articles' context, the overall purpose of the articles, and the articles' exigency, or relevancy. The scholarly article, Dressed and Groomed for Success in Elementary School Student Appearance and Academic Adjustment is written by Caroline Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Cote–Lussier, and Clancy Blair. This scholarly, peer–reviewed article is about how instructor's negative perceptions, biases, and academic adjustments for their students can not only hinder student's potential in the classroom, but also their outlook on schools, specifically in elementary grades. The second scholarly article, Critical Race Theory and Whiteness of Teacher Education is written by Christine E. Sleeter. This article is about how teacher education can be changed by addressing the Whiteness within it and how the targeted audience can be challenged. Due to the fact that the articles are different, then the purposes for these articles differ. The purpose of the first article is to see how "theory and research suggest that students' academic experiences are likely to be associated with their general appearance and demeanor" (Fitpatrick et al. 32). It is to inform the audience of teachers and policy makers, on how teachers are pre–judging their students based off of their initial appearance and relating that to their competence at school. The Effect of Electronic Journals on Scholarly Communication In recent years, scholarly communication has virtually exploded into the on–line electronic world. This has brought a number of demonstrable benefits to the scholarly communication process as well as highlighting a number of inefficiencies and obstacles to the full deployment of information technology. However, the explosion has also brought a spate of credulous accounts concerning the transformative potential of information technology. These accounts, though well intentioned, do not contribute to a sociological understanding of information technology in general, or its effect on the scholarly communication process more specifically. In order to develop our understanding of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, there are a number of initiatives designed to reproduce classic and modern texts by digital imaging or SGML [2] markup. [3] The EJS has experienced similar growth. From sporadic access to the WWW server just over a year ago when the journal was founded, we are now viewed by over 1500 individuals each month from 38 countries around the world. Most documents are served to the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany and Sweden. However access by other countries is steadily increasing. [4] Curiously though, the EJS remains virtually the only journal devoted to sociology on the internet. At the time of this writing, the Yahoo index [5], generally considered the most comprehensive index for the WWW, of Sociology Journals contains two listings. One is for the Electronic Journal of Sociology and the other for a Hungarian journal entitled Replika. In this paper, I will provide an overview of the issues surrounding the emergence of electronic journal publication while attempting to relate them to our experience at the Electronic Journal of Sociology. Some of these issues are straightforward and include the direction in which e– publication is moving, the benefits of electronic publication, and the obstacles to its full deployment. These I will deal with in the first two sections of the paper. However there are currents in the emerging debates which are strongly reminiscent of the popular and semi–academic eulogies to the ... • 66. The Importance Of Poverty In Literature The way things are written can have an effect on the audience drawn in. Most people are used to generalized, every day vocabulary, as opposed to more complex and intricate words and grammar. When reading an article, the easier the words are to interpret, the easier the article is to read. However, this is not always the case. Sometimes, papers are going to be written using more advanced vocabulary. They may even include data in the form of charts and tables. This is when it gets harder for a general audience to read and interpret. It may be more accurate and scientific, but is it too complex for people the comprehend? For example, there is a controversial topic of poverty on the rise. Some people believe it is due to how one grows up, others believe it is the lack of compensation, and some even believe it all deals with race. The two articles, "What Do We Think Poverty Looks Like?", written by Tracie McMillan, and, "Poverty, Race, and the Contexts of Achievement: Examining Education Experiences of Children in the U.S. South", written by Maryah Stela Fram, Julie E. Miller–Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn, reveal thoughts on what contributes to poverty. The difference is, these two articles are using two very different genres. The scholarly article, written by Maryah Stella Fram, Julie E. Miller–Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn focuses on poverty and what social workers can do to minimize the effects. The writers of this article chose to focus on an expert audience that have deep knowledge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Informative Essay On Social Media Technological advances in our world over the past decade have impacted our society tremendously. With these advances have come new social media websites that people all around the world use in their everyday life. Social media started out as a means of communication from person to person but has drastically grown to be even a source of news and a reporting channel. The world can be updated on events that occur within seconds through the use of websites and cellular apps with the most popular today being Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The increased speed of reporting news and other things however does not necessarily determine all things posted via social media to be valid. With the click of a few buttons on your phone, anybody has the capability to post a status or tweet that has the potential of being viewed by thousands to millions of people. The article Tweeting Fast Matters, But Only if I Think About It: Information Updates on Social Media uses the popular platform Twitter in a study to determine whether or not there is a correlation between the speed of updates and how people determine source credibility (Spence, Lachlan, & Edwards, 55). Twitter and other social media platforms are useful in reporting news fast and keeping people connected but not all information shared online should be assumed true. • 70. Why Do We Use Social Networking Sites Ruining Community? "Internet and mobile technology seems to be subtly destroying the meaningfulness of interactions we have with others, disconnecting us from the world around us, and leading to an imminent sense of isolation in today's society" (Nilles, 2012). The 'real world' in my considerations is decades ago we used to go in person to speak to someone yet now with enhanced technology we can address to someone with one click through social networking sites. We send wishes, information and condolences all through text and messages as before we used to go in person to send these thoughts. The basic social networking websites being accessed at school concludes to be a risk factor that affects the students and the environment around them. Social networking is frequently turning into a swap for building and setting up associations in our society today and on a very basic level it's leading to negative impacts. Human connections are rich and chaotic. We tend to choose technology as a way to communicate rather than conversation for mere connection. (Turkle, 2012). Many laypersons and experts feel texting can be very detrimental to an individual's ability to write a proper piece of formal writing free from textspeak. Texting has become the primary way of communication, and the abbreviated way that words in texts are created it could logically be correct. Individuals that predominantly text, especially during foundation periods could have a difficult time adjusting their style to create scholarly writing needed in their education and potential job markets. Michaela Cullington addressed this subject in her essay "Does Texting Affect Writing". Cullington suggests that texting is not as detrimental to formal writing as some believe. Cullington states, "Many experts would agree that there is no harm in textspeak, as long as students continue to be taught and reminded that occasions where formal language is expected are not the place for it" (Cullington). Cullington conducted her own research that revealed parallel results of the experts featured in her essay. The detrimental effects of texting can be minimized by the reinforcement of correct scholarly writing by parents and educators particularly during crucial foundational periods. I am in agreement with Cullington on the point that students are able to differentiate between informal and formal writing, however I am concerned that we are seeing the first generations of ... There are several ways to accomplish this, one of those ways is to look the part, in other words dress for the role. Secondly, when we communicate within our discipline, understanding how to speak and write the language of your profession is essential. However, we need balance in our communication skills, verbal and written, not too complex or simple, but effective enough to communicate with a distinctive professional voice. In my disciplines (Social Work and Art Education), there are several different levels; one of those is learning to speak the language of scholarly art educators such as, having knowledge of the different art ... It is essential to always preserve the relationship because it is vital to the client's success of treatment. It is also imperative to consider the way in which information is delivered to clients and their family or caregivers. One must eliminate jargoning while attempting to communicate with clients. The use of scientific terminology of a particular study can become lost when engaging with a client or family members. When evaluating a client you are wondering and determining the type of treatment or intervention you would like to introduce. As each client is different, what works for client A may not be effective with client B. In determining the type of intervention there should be a certain level of research along with the gained professional and educational knowledge obtained. While researching treatments there are bound to be a multitude of fad treatments. It is important to research and steer away from alternate treatments also known as AltTs. These treatments are those that attempt to mimic ABA interventions but are not scientifically found. There has been little or no research provided, they have no scientific data, or they may be unsupported. Very few if any have cohesive research studies on entire treatment packages. Using any of these treatments would be deemed unethical. That is why research is key. A lot of AltTs disguise themselves as ABA; when in fact ABA is a science and science is "the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment." ABA seeks to understand and alter behaviors by observation, study, and proven scientific techniques. Using such treatments could, potentially, do more harm than good.
