4. New French Law Bars Work Email After Hours
• A new French law establishing workers’ “right to disconnect” goes into effect from 1st Jan 2017.
• The law requires companies with more than 50 employees to establish hours when staff should not send or
answer emails.
• The goals of the law include making sure employees are fairly paid for work, and preventing burnout by
protecting private time.

After-Hours Email, Work-Family
Balance and Identification“
Highlight:-
Even the anticipatory stress of expecting
after-hours emails might have a negative
effect on our well-being.
Checking email less frequently
reduces stress
Highlights:-
• Limiting the frequency of checking email
throughout the day reduced daily stress.
• Lower daily stress predicts greater well-
being (e.g., higher positive affect).

"Professionals who find the right balance between private and work life perform far better in their job than those who arrive shattered," said Mettling.
Managers who worked at home between 8pm and midnight rose from a third to 52 per cent in just 10 years, according to Technologia, a French firm which aims to reduce risks to workers.
The country's economic crisis has made many employees afraid of losing their jobs and work longer hours inside and outside the office as a result, according to the firm's director.
Jean-Claude Delgenes of Technologia told The Local: "We have poor self-control when it comes to new technology. Work spills over into people's private lives.
A new study, “Exhausted But Unable to Disconnect,” authored by Liuba Belkin of Lehigh University, William Becker of Virginia Tech and Samantha A. Conroy of Colorado State University, shows it’s not just the amount of time spent on work emails, but the anticipatory stress and expectation of answering after-hours emails that is draining employees. Using data collected from 297 working adults, the study looked at the role of organizational expectation regarding “off”-hour emailing and found it negatively impacts employee emotional states, leading to “burnout” and diminished work-family balance, which is essential for individual health and well-being.
A study out of the University of British Columbia found that participants who were assigned to check their email only three times a day were found to be less stressed than those who could check their emails continuously.
The survey responses showed that women rated kissing as generally more important in relationships than men. Furthermore, men and women who rated themselves as being attractive, or who tended to have more short-term relationships and casual encounters, also rated kissing as being more important.
In short relationships, survey participants said kissing was most important before sex, less so during sex, was less important again after sex and was least important at other times. In committed relationships, where forming and maintain a lasting bond is an important goal, kissing was equally important before sex and at times not related to sex.
In the current study, the team found that kissing's importance changed for people according to whether it was being done in long-term or short-term relationships. Particularly, it was rated by women as more important in long-term relationships, suggesting that kissing also plays an important role in mediating affection and attachment among established couples.
As human communication is rapidly migrating from the physical world to the digital world, it is crucial to develop affective communication systems to enable the expression of intimacy, emotion and empathy over the Internet, as these are essential elements in forming social relationships. A multisensory, real-time kissing device, Kissenger, is developed to transmit multisensory kissing sensations remotely using mobile phones. The aim is to provide an intimate communication channel for families and friends to physically interact with each other remotely, in order to effectively convey deep emotions and intimacy through a multisensory internet communication experience
In animals, ventral stroking for >5 days increases oxytocin (OT) activity and decreases blood pressure (BP), but related human studies are few. Thus, relationships between self-reported frequency of partner hugs, plasma OT and BP levels were examined in 59 premenopausal women before and after warm contact with their husbands/partners ending with hugs. Higher baseline OT before partner contact was associated with lower BP and heart rate, and met criteria to be a partial mediator of the lower resting BP shown by women reporting more frequent hugs (P < 0.05). OT levels during post-contact stress were unrelated to hugs or BP. Menstrual cycle phase did not influence any OT measure. Thus, frequent hugs between spouses/partners are associated with lower BP and higher OT levels in premenopausal women; OT-mediated reduction in central adrenergic activity and peripheral effects of OT on the heart and vasculature are pathways to examine in future research.
People who have sex frequently (one or two times a week) have significantly higher levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA).1 Your IgA immune system is your body's first line of defense.
Its job is to fight off invading organisms at their entry points, reducing or even eliminating the need for activation of your body's immune system. This may explain why people who have sex frequently also take fewer sick days.
Men who made love regularly (at least twice a week) were 45 percent less likely to develop heart disease than those who did so once a month or less, according to one study.3
Sexual activity not only provides many of the same benefits to your heart as exercise but also keeps levels of estrogen and testosterone in balance, which is important for heart health.
