Madeleine L Engle Essay
Madeleine L'Engle: "We have to be braver than we think we can be, because God is constantly
calling us to be more than we are." ("Madeleine L'Engle") Madeleine L'Engle had a very intriguing
life. Her famous writing style was affected by her childhood and family. Madeleine L'Engle was
born on November 29, 1918 in New York City (Marcus 3). Ever since she was five years old, she
had the ambition to be an author (Hunter). L'Engle was always self–conscious about her appearance.
She said the reason for her insecurities were due to her long neck and lack of coordination (Hunter).
At the age of twelve, Madeleine's family decided to move to Europe. She attended a Swiss boarding
school during her stay. A few years later, she returned to the United States and went to a school in

The first book she ever published was titled A Small Rain. It was issued in 1945 when L'Engle was
twenty–seven years old. One of her most famous books was A Wrinkle in Time which was
published in 1963. After her success with the famous book, she wrote four more books to complete
the series. L'Engle got the idea for A Wrinkle in Time while on a two month cross–country vacation
she took with her family. Her family definitely had an impact on her writings, for some of her
characters were based on her kids. L'Engle's son, Bion, was portrayed as Charles Wallace Murray,
an important character in A Wrinkle in Time, and Rob Austin, an important character in one of her
well know series, Meet the Austins, which was published in 1960. Bion died in 1999 when he was
forty–seven. L'Engle received many awards for her numerous books. She was given the American
Library Association's Margaret Edwards award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Young
Adult Literature as well as the legendary Newbury award for A Wrinkle in Time. Although L'Engle's
books always presented Christianity as a major theme in her books, she started writing more openly
about God around the 1970s

Teaching And Mentoring Experience For Undergraduate Students
Teaching and Mentoring Experience
Teaching has been a fundamental component of my academic training. I have been actively involved
in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring high school and undergraduate research students throughout my
doctoral and postdoctoral work at the City University of New York (CUNY). I taught General
Chemistry (I & II) laboratory courses and recitation sections at CUNY for four years. I volunteered
as a physical chemistry tutor for undergraduate students from CUNY. At St. John 's College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences, my teaching assignment included a General Chemistry Laboratory course
that also involved a synergistic approach to conducting several laboratory sessions guided
simultaneously by two instructors.
Along with Dr. Ruth Stark and her graduate students at City College, I designed a curriculum for a
biophysics foundation course ("Touring the tomato: A suite of chemistry laboratory experiments")
geared for undergraduate and high school students seeking research experience through CUNY's
College Now program. The eight–module course introduces a panel of analytical techniques for
studying the structural properties of biopolymers obtained from an inexpensive source such as the
tomato fruit at increasingly detailed molecular levels. In its final phase, students design independent
research projects related to structural investigations of various biomaterials obtained from fruits and
vegetables. We tested our new curriculum by giving a summer

it is my favorite picture books for children 's because children prefer this type of books specially for
the kids four years and under.
Example for that when I was in the center I saw the teacher taught kids alphabet like she make
letters out of play–dough. she play the "memory game" with matching lower case to upper case.
There has many pictures they put in the wall for the children and their family every child has a
pictures on his or her cabinet.
I have seen in the center teachers from different nationalities, for example Iraqi and Mexican
teachers and America But they all speak English with kids.
I have also seen in the center many sections for children to play, for example dramatic section,
Block center, Science, sensory, art, quiet area, math area, writing and listening area.
I saw kids doing their breakfast and when they were done they went to there table and ate there eggs
and toast then the other side there were dramatic area and they were there costumes like Spiderman.
one girt was a Princess and one was a firefighter and they were so cute when they played. The
environment is very good for playing for kids at this center I saw. also I saw the outdoor
environment of this center it is very good too.
At this center has sand area, slid area, a big grass area for the ball, a big box water to play the kids
and there has many bike and swing also they has storage for the toys and wood's toy. so the children

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Hunter College
As a member of a small community I have always dreamt of going away to college. Currently I go
to Hunter College in Manhattan, which although is a very nice school, it also takes me two hours by
ferry and train to get to class on time. I have also visited the campus and felt more at home than by
going to a commuter school in the city. Hunter College does not offer much of a campus life and it
would be hectic for me to join a club or a sport due to the travel time. This disappoints me because
in high school I used to do a lot of community service, I was in a lot of clubs and I was also on some
team sports. I know if I were to go to the University of Delaware that more options would be open
to me to be involved in school as an active member of

I was born July 6th 2001 to my mother; Arlishia Cornist and father, Rickey Smith– Hunter in Dallas,
Texas. I was given the name Patience because at the time my mom was going through a time where
she needed to learn how to patient. Even though I was fine at birth, the doctors had to keep me there
for an extra day for tests since I had the sickle cell trait. As a child I was very spoiled until later that
next year on September 10th 2002 my baby brother Rico Hunter was born. Most of my family is
Creole, Cherokee Indian and Black which I now understand since over half of my families on both
sides are from Louisiana. Unfortunately a year after my brother was born my parents got divorced
and we moved away from our apartments in Mesquite to be close to our grandparents. Since then I
now live in Oak Cliff with my mom, brother and both of my grandparents. We often go on vacations
twice every year. One I vaguely remember was when we took a trip to Disneyworld in Florida and
stayed at a hotel where they brought out lions for entertainment every day. My grandparents are real

Hunter College Application Research Paper
Hunter College and I, hold a familiar sight. Like Hunter College I admire the diversity and Hunter's
student body is diverse like New York itself. Diversity is something that teaches society to excel at a
higher altitude. Diversity gives people a new mindset to erase all the narrow–minded thoughts
people have against each other, as well as experiences. Experience's are what shape us into the
person we are today. They change a person's perspective and fade into memories, good or bad. My
parents are immigrants from Pakistan so life was not easy in the kickoff. I remember we didn't have
ample money for food so we would suffice with eating popcorn for dinner on most nights, and
dipping bread in milk for breakfast jumpstarted our day. Looking at how much my parents
progressed inspired me and made me realize that this country is made for dreams to come true. I
was the oldest so my parents put a lot of effort in me. They taught me to be creative and remember
my roots. I was a very confident kid and would be full of life until I graduated fifth grade. Watching
middle school shows frightened me because of how ill–mannered the kids behaved to the main
character. I never thought I was about to play that part. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I digested the fact that something is appreciated only if it's about to be taken away. I remember all
the doctors buzzing around her like flies; her life was at stake and at the last moment the doctors

realized this is the profession I wanted to pursue. My first step was volunteering to change her

The Story Of My Search
Lilly Bjorkquist
The Story of My Search It's no secret that the economy has not been the best in the past five or so
years, and a lot of schools have taken the hardest hit from that. Public schools have had to cut many
different programs and areas of study because it is simply just too expensive to teach all of them and
provide the correct materials for the students. This is causing the quality of students education to go
down, and they aren't receiving all of the benefits that they should be. The education that a student
receives starting in elementary school and all the way up into high schools sets them up for how
they will do in college, and that will determine how they are going to live the rest of their lives.
Since my future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools also cut sports, extra circular activities, and other events that make school fun for the
students. I want to see how they deal with these cuts but yet still give the students the proper
education. Overall, I just want to find out how schools make up for the classes that are taken out of
the schools, and what they think is the best way to deal with this situation. My search had its good
and bad points, but over all it was pretty successful and took me about two weeks to complete. I
found out a lot of things that I didn't know, but some of the things were obvious from attending a
public high school. At some points it was difficult to find information to back up what I wanted to
explain, but for the most part I had a handful of good and credible sources to use. I used a few
websites that were from major new sites, a former teacher, and school websites themselves. I got the
majority of my information from the news sites, and that was very interesting because the different
states showed different ways that they cut programs and how it differed depending on the school
and the area. It also showed how some of them were similar and some of the cuts were placed in the
same areas but not always. Another thing that I did was to interview one of my former teachers to
see what her feelings where on the budgets cuts and how it directly effected her. It was good to hear
some feedback from someone who was experiencing the cuts first

Who Is Hunter Jordan's Death In The Color Of Water
In the book, " Color of Water" by James Mcbride, Ruth and James dealt with their stepfather's death
differently. Ruth used the bike he rode on to remember him while James acted rebellious. Both
James and Ruth suffered at the end due to their stepfather's death and they both showed that losing a
family member is horrible to overcome. To begin with, James was doing great in school and made
his parents proud by maintaining decent grades but everything changed once the tragedy of Hunter
Jordan's death occurred. James saw Jordan as a father role model and was so hurt with his death. In
the book Mcbride says, " I always thought of him as Daddy," (Mcbride 6). James focus on school

Riding the bicycle Hunter Jordan had brought was her way of showing how much her kids meant
for her and how strong she was. She also became the person to motivate her children. "Now she
seemed intent on playing the piano, dodging bill collectors, forcing us into college through sheer
willpower..." (7). Since Jordan died, she stood up and tried to do what Hunter did for their children.
She forced them to go to school and get an education since that was important in their life. The last
way Ruth dealt with her grief over Jordan's death was when she refused to learn how to drive.
"Daddy's old car sat out front for weeks, parked at the curb.Silent.Clean.Polished. Every day she
rode her bike right past it, ignoring it," (7). This shows how strong she is the way she passes by the
car like nothing. She acts like Hunter jordan is still alive by not even touching his

Why Do Athletes Be Paid
Many athletes are praised for their performances in middle school and high school; however, when
they realize they have made it to pay at a college level they tend to relax. Because of the constant
praise athletes get an ego and tend to think because they are the best they do not have to try as hard
as others on the team (or other athletes in general). They stop grinding (or putting in work) because
they think they have already made it and their job is done. Some people are not as fast, skilled, or
talented as other, but if you put work in you can still make it. Eric says that while others are relaxing
and taking it easy while you are grinding soon enough you are going to pass them and become better
than them. You have the drive and drive can

Often student–oriented teaching provides a relatively convenient platform for active learning, and I
count upon feedback from students to restructure my teaching methods. I appreciate that the use of
technology can breathe new life into the traditional way of teaching a subject. Based on my
interdisciplinary academic training, I realize that classroom teaching can prepare students to apply
knowledge and skills, gained from studying a specific subject, to a variety of areas. I find it
particularly rewarding that classroom teaching also offers an interactive means for motivating
undergraduate students toward a self–teaching process. My teaching and mentoring experiences
have made me realize that a key element of my teaching process should focus on engaging students
in learning by connecting their ideas and organizing their thoughts on a topic. Relying on my
research training, I am striving to build part of my basic teaching approach that can extend my
endeavors to encourage students toward an independent thinking process. I have recognized that an
efficiently operating teaching method requires an iterative process of adjustment and revision; there
is no ready–made recipe or single–faceted approach to devise an effective and rewarding teaching

Becoming A Physical Therapist For Doctors And Physicians
Within our homes, schools, and community, there are many different fields of medicine to
accommodate for the accelerating demand for doctors and physicians. With so many fields and
concentrations of medicine, different schools have emerge to keep up with the demand. Now, not
only are there primary care physicians, but also fields such as pediatrics and physical therapy. Since
entering college, I have always had an internal debate and frustration on what I wanted to do and
who I wanted to become and if I really did want to pursue a career in healthcare or engineering. Just
recently deciding to aspire to become a physical therapist, I became so lost in how I was to pursue
my career and the steps needed to achieve it. I have always thought that one only needed to take the
MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) and a letter of recommendation along with required
coursework was all that was needed to become a doctor. Compiling this report allowed me to further
research my desired healthcare career pathway and the experiences being a doctor comes with it.
Although not a physical therapist, I consulted Dr. Judy A. Hunter, MD to discuss her work and
experiences within the healthcare field. Dr. Hunter, a Pediatrician at Healthcare Partners Medical
Group and Providence Little Company of Mary has been medicine for 31 years. Graduated in 1983
with her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Dr. Hunter

Medicine : A Long Unfortunate History Of Pseudoscience And...
Medicine has a long unfortunate history of pseudoscience and folklore. In medieval times, the
prescribed cure for a sick child would be to place a gourd in the crib of the infant. Pseudosciences
such as astrology plagued the sick public with helpless cures. Many ills were thought to be soothed
by bleeding the patient, which in reality did nothing, but harm the patient. It was said that early
doctors would, "bleed, blister, and purge their patients to early graves." Most of the naive
philosophies involving medicine were incorrect due to a lack of knowledge involving the workings
body and anatomy of the body. The body was seen as a holy temple, not to be entered by dissection
or studies for science. Many sickness were even thought to be the wrath of God and a punishment
for a patients sins. There were, in general, no use of pain killers or understanding of germ theory.
For generations, all that was known and taught about the skills of surgery and medicine originated
from the sacred texts of Galen and Hippocrates. However, even those texts were writhe with
inaccuracies and pseudoscience. Largely, it was not until John Hunter became his lucrative
involvement in the field of medicine that human anatomy, and therefore human sickness, started to
become understood. John Hunter was a bit of an unlikely character to have contributed so much to
modern health. Coming from a large family on a Scottish farm, John Hunter never even finished
grade school. He was known for his disdain of

Symbolism In The Color Of Water
In the color of water it is unreasonably considerable to see how James and his mother Ruth, deal
with the same kinds of emotions that they show throughout the story. When Hunter jordan die's it
becomes rather difficult for James, as he interprets his step father's death with sadness. Like his
mother himself, she also is sad and tries to accept the fact that he has gone. In the book, James talks
about how Jordan, his step dad was a great dad and that he liked the fact of him being different. In
chapter 2, James describes his stepfather as someone that he truly admired and that he loved even
though he wasn't his real father. " He was seventy two when he died, trim, strong, easygoing,
seemingly infallible, and though he was my step father."

Persuasive Essay On The Benefits Of Playing Football
One of America's favorite pastime is football, and millions of Americans spend many hours a week
watching games on TV and in stadiums. Many people look up to American Football players as
heroes for good reason. Football is a very exciting game with amazing moments with many happy
and sad moments. I would allow my son to play football because it teaches teamwork, it provides
college and career opportunities, and it builds self–confidence.
One reason why I would allow my son to play football is because it would teach my son the
importance of teamwork and collaboration. "With dozens of players working towards one common
goal, the bond many kids develop with each other is priceless. – Hunter Hewitt." Football can create
many amazing friendships and will not allow the player to feel alone. Not only would it make my

them at a great advantage compared to normal students who usually depend on others and cannot

benefits, there is a dark side to it. Football is infamous for the amount of concussions people have
within the games. This can be fatal, and cases of death have happened, even to high school students.
However, even though there is a great risk of playing football, the reward of lessons and bravery are
great. The discipline and toughness will help my son or child throughout life. In fact, the sport itself

Fear story
In a little town called Shadow Bay, there was the Walsh Family this was no ordinary family or any

wrong. So she did what any 17–year–old girl would do and she followed her mom to work on
Thursday, January 12th and Liv knew once her mom made a right turn towards Shadow Bay High
School instead of a left to the hospital her suspicions were correct. Her mother had met with her
English teacher Mr. Phillips this wasn't a parent–teacher conference meeting though, this is was
what Liv had feared most her mother was having an affair. Liv didn't go straight to her father with
this new knowledge because deep down she already knew he knew. If a teenage girl can figure it out
so can a 45–year–old man. Later that night, things were tense among the Walsh family, after dinner
Walter confronted Mary about the affair and that's when Liv knew things would only get worse from

Hunter Clifton I Like To Write Analysis
There are constant times in life when we to take a second look at something, whether it is an object,
a place, an idea, or even an idea. Through this second look, we get a different perspective about it,
either positive or negative. In my interview with Hunter Clifton, I asked her if she likes to write. She
answered, "I like to write." It seems common at first to just "like" to write, but if you asked her eight
years ago if she liked to write, she would have just plain out said "No!" Hunter grew up in
Columbus Ohio with a love for Jesus, serving others, and missions. Her desire to write, however,
took a while longer to develop. It required a little bit of time and a lot of God's assistance. Her
experience in writing starts in Saint Brendan Middle School. During this time, she joined a writing
club. This club used to hold several competitions that allowed writers to show their skill. Hunter
competed in these. Unfortunately, she did not win any of the competitions. She did not even receive

Sweat, Stress, And Tears Essay
Sweat, Stress, and Tears
From the time an American student reaches the 6th grade, they are taught that the key to life is to do
well in high school so that they can get accepted into the best possible colleges. However, this was
not the case in our parents' generation. My parents never attended college, let alone got a high
school diploma. At the age of seven, they were working and that was their normalcy, whereas, in
today's generation, the process of elementary, middle, and high school is what we are taught the
minute we enter this world. Although some students may agree, while others disagree, college is a
no brainer for some whereas it is not even an option for others.
At an early age, our family, schools, and media feeds have already embedded the word "college"
into our young minds; we are taught that if we do not attend college we will not get a job, meaning
no future and no money, something we all want, in this essay, I will be discussing the difference
between those who stopped their education at an early age, those with a college education, and those
who simply cannot afford it.
There are four key topics I will be addressing in order to explain whether students should or should
not attend college. First, I will discuss the historical background of universities before the 21st
century. Next, I will review the methods our parents used to continue without a college degree.
Then, I will discuss today's version of a college education and the debt some may face

Why Is College So Important?
Why is college so important? A few years ago, most people only obtained their high school diploma
and would receive any job in the market, but colleges have become the twenty–first century key to
success. Jobs are now being given to those who are more educated and college provides this extra
education. It is not the same as high school. High school education consists of a more general
knowledge, which is a small amount of information about all the topics, but college is focused on
the major. College graduates have more comprehension in their area than those with a high school
diploma. As President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "A man who has never gone to school may
steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad."
(Chicago Tribute). His point is that the more educated a person is; the higher goals they can obtain.
College is the best way to succeed because it provides more education about deeper knowledge and

Why Do You Buy An Apple?
According to the Merriam–Webster dictionary, a commodity is defined as something that is bought
and sold. There are many obvious examples of commodities in our world today. Silver, gold, wheat,
oil, apples and beef are bought and sold everyday in the American markets. A price or value is
placed on a commodity based on factors of supply and demand for the buyer intended purchase.
Although prices may vary slightly due to such things as state taxes or shipping costs, it is
understood that in a the marketplace a commodity has a determined value no matter where or how it
is purchased.
There are typically few differences between the commodities. Whether you buy an apple in

Every college is different and unique. There are large universities with tens of thousands of students
and there are small colleges with only hundreds of students. Every college curriculum is different.
They may offer the same core courses such as English or Math, but the vast majority of courses
differ significantly from college to college. These courses can range from fine arts to pre med with
hundreds of classes in between. Every campus is different. Large universities are big enough to
warrant their own zip code with amenities such as stadiums, libraries, dining halls, and exercise
facilities. While, on the other hand, small community colleges operate in one building with only
classrooms and a cafeteria.
Another reason that colleges are not commodities is because of the cost of tuition. The "cost of the
service", varies from school to school. Tuition can range anywhere from $4,000 to $50,000 and all
costs in between. Because of the differences in tuition, it is difficult to determine a common
marketplace worth or value of a college degree. This is expressed in the article when he says, "First,
most everyone now evaluates college in purely economic terms, thus reducing it to a commodity
like a car or a house." (The Washington Post) Is it more valuable to go to an expensive college
because it costs more and therefore is "worth" more? Or should the value of a college degree be
based on the starting salary of

Analysis: The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
"The Color of Water" is an autobiography by James McBride. The book chronicles the trials and
tribulations of McBride and his mother as they struggle with their identities. Throughout the book
McBride alternates between his own story and that of his mother's. This novel takes an in–depth
look at the transformation of McBride and his mother as they evolve in acknowledging their
identities. McBride never knew his mother's heritage growing up. Whenever McBride would
question his mother about her ethnicity, she would say she was "light–skinned", which generated a
long–standing confusion regarding his own racial identity.
McBride's mother, Ruth McBride Jordan, was born in Poland to a white Polish Orthodox Jewish
family. The family immigrates to the United States when Ruth is very young. Ruth's father was a
rabbi, who was very abusive to his family and forced the family to move to the south, where he
opens a grocery store in an area that was predominantly racially black. Ruth was a child when
schools implemented racial segregation and there was pervasive discrimination against blacks and
Jews. When McBride's mother Ruth is narrating, she describes her difficult life with her birth family
and how everyone left her. Ruth describes how her older brother, Sam, left her family and went
north because of their father's abuse. Ruth's brother eventually joins the military, ... Show more

The Dangers Of Deer Overpopulation
In the early twentieth century, hunter–funded state and federal conservation programs rescued deer,
elk, bears, turkeys and more from disappearing. Hunting benefits the environment and the economy
due to the risk of overpopulation of animals, the taxes on hunting license and hunting equipment,
jobs, along with the crops planted by hunters feeds the animals. "In the early twentieth century, there
were approximately 500,000 white–tailed deer inhabiting the United States."(Swihart) "Since then,
several studies have been conducted proving that there are problems with deer overpopulation.
Research has displayed that there are three prominent units that the causes come from; human
overpopulation, elimination of their natural predators , along with lack of hunting to control the
population."(Lane) Human overpopulation has affected the deer population due to the fact that as
the human population has increased the need for homes, food and water supply, as well as other
extra things such as malls, highways and much more. The need for those has resulted in humans
cutting down trees and destroying the habitats of the deer which has lead to the population moving
to other areas and causing disease because the population is to high none area. The eradication of
their natural predators is the result of removing the deers natural predators; this would result in the
deer overpopulating. The lack of hunting to control the population would lead to an increase in the

Contention One: Paying College Athletes is Logistically Impossible Not only do different college
sports bring in vastly different amounts of revenue, but different athletes on individual teams bring
in vastly different amounts of revenue. Due to these differences, it is impossible to make a
determination as to how funding would be allocated. William Jung Texas Christian University, 3
May 2013 explains Different athletes, even on the most profitable sports teams, bring in vastly
different levels of revenue economics research articles have estimated the marginal revenue product
(MRP) of a student–athlete in major college sports. The most recent study finds that the median
MRP was about $44,000, which exceeds the average value of a scholarship, and that the mean MRP

DACA provides undocumented individuals the opportunity to legally work in the United States.
This is beneficial to undocumented individuals especially those pursing Higher Education because it
allows them to make money they can possibly use to cover there tuitions expenses. DACA is very
similar to The Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, which has not
yet to be passed. The DREAM Act legislation "would provide undocumented students who arrived
in the United States before the age of sixteen, have lived in this country for at least five years, and
are of "good moral character" temporary residency for six years, during which time they must obtain
at least an associate's degree or complete two years of military service." (Diaz–Strong, Gomez,
Luna–Duarte, & Meiners, 2010, p.30) Once completion of the requirements they would be eligible
for citizenship.
The working permit DACA allows permission to immigrants to be in the United States but does not
consider these individuals citizen therefore still deny undocumented students federal aid for college.
This policy is a short–term benefit that could be discontinued and lead to deportation. Another major
disadvantage about this short–term benefit policy is the age and resided qualification.

Steve Jobs Motivation
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do
what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you
haven't found it yet, keep looking." (Jobs). A person's life revolves around their ambitions as Steve
Jobs revealed in a 2005 commemorative address at Stanford University. Jobs was not a man who
took his work lightly. In fact, he lived his life so that he impacted the whole world. Steve Jobs'
pursuit of doing great work and loving what he did can be traced through his early life, his time as a
business executive, and even though his legacy, where his ideas live perpetually.
Steve Jobs' life could be described with three words– "Abandoned. Chosen. Special" (Isaacson 27).
First, he was abandoned because his biological parents gave him up for adoption shortly after his
birth. His birth mom, Joanne, demanded that he be adopted by scholarly people of high caliber, yet
she settled for a loving but lower class couple. So it was that Steve was adopted by Paul and Clara
Jobs (Moisescot). Twenty years passed, and it seemed like all Steve would be was abandoned and
chosen. In school, Steve was unmotivated and never completed his homework. One of his fourth–
grade teacher's saw this, so she bribed him with money to get him to accomplish his work. This
method of motivation proved to be effective in obtaining Steve's attention (Hunter 7). Steve

African American Student Achievement
Working thesis: The reason why African American students do not have a high rate of academic
achievement is because of racism and prejudices, the way they are educated by educators, and their
incomes.
Racism and prejudices seem to be one of the causes for why African American students achieve low
in academics. According to Garry Bold, even though funding levels of black schools are the same as
wealthy white schools, predominately black schools will remain unequal. The reason why
predominately black schools remain unequal is because educational reforms such as the No Child

As discussed by Jabari Mahiri, African American culture and discussions about African American
youth cannot be eliminated when trying to help educate black students. In detail, two African–
American teachers who taught in the same high school had two different outcomes with their
students. The reason there were two different results between the teachers was because one teacher
decided to introduced and exposed the students to familiar faces that they can relate to and African
American issues. In addition, Quassan Castro Writer, Activist, Columnist, Poet, Educator and
Culture Critic suggested some tips and strategies to teach African American students because he
noticed that there is staggering amount of African American students dropping out of high school
and not attending college. Specifically, Castro mentioned that main three tips all Educators Must
Know About Educating African American and Latino Students is 1) Connect with Parents.
"Establish a positive connection with parents from the first day of class. A phone call to report good
news is as equally vital to the success of your student as informing parents when children are
struggling" (Castro). 2) Cultural Images. "Due to the overexposure to white identities in media,
African American and Latino students need to see images of themselves where they are not
portrayed as inferior or subordinate to white culture." (Castro). 3) Value of Education and Real Life.
"Express the value of education. Explain the varying levels of educational possibilities one can
attain. Do not assume your students know how many high school credits they need to graduate. Do
not assume your students knows what a bachelors, masters or doctorate program consists of"
(Castro). These particular sources link the issue of African American students not having a high rate

Madeleine L Engle Essay

  • 1. Madeleine L Engle Essay Madeleine L'Engle: "We have to be braver than we think we can be, because God is constantly calling us to be more than we are." ("Madeleine L'Engle") Madeleine L'Engle had a very intriguing life. Her famous writing style was affected by her childhood and family. Madeleine L'Engle was born on November 29, 1918 in New York City (Marcus 3). Ever since she was five years old, she had the ambition to be an author (Hunter). L'Engle was always self–conscious about her appearance. She said the reason for her insecurities were due to her long neck and lack of coordination (Hunter). At the age of twelve, Madeleine's family decided to move to Europe. She attended a Swiss boarding school during her stay. A few years later, she returned to the United States and went to a school in South ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first book she ever published was titled A Small Rain. It was issued in 1945 when L'Engle was twenty–seven years old. One of her most famous books was A Wrinkle in Time which was published in 1963. After her success with the famous book, she wrote four more books to complete the series. L'Engle got the idea for A Wrinkle in Time while on a two month cross–country vacation she took with her family. Her family definitely had an impact on her writings, for some of her characters were based on her kids. L'Engle's son, Bion, was portrayed as Charles Wallace Murray, an important character in A Wrinkle in Time, and Rob Austin, an important character in one of her well know series, Meet the Austins, which was published in 1960. Bion died in 1999 when he was forty–seven. L'Engle received many awards for her numerous books. She was given the American Library Association's Margaret Edwards award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Young Adult Literature as well as the legendary Newbury award for A Wrinkle in Time. Although L'Engle's books always presented Christianity as a major theme in her books, she started writing more openly about God around the 1970s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Teaching And Mentoring Experience For Undergraduate Students Teaching and Mentoring Experience Teaching has been a fundamental component of my academic training. I have been actively involved in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring high school and undergraduate research students throughout my doctoral and postdoctoral work at the City University of New York (CUNY). I taught General Chemistry (I & II) laboratory courses and recitation sections at CUNY for four years. I volunteered as a physical chemistry tutor for undergraduate students from CUNY. At St. John 's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, my teaching assignment included a General Chemistry Laboratory course that also involved a synergistic approach to conducting several laboratory sessions guided simultaneously by two instructors. Along with Dr. Ruth Stark and her graduate students at City College, I designed a curriculum for a biophysics foundation course ("Touring the tomato: A suite of chemistry laboratory experiments") geared for undergraduate and high school students seeking research experience through CUNY's College Now program. The eight–module course introduces a panel of analytical techniques for studying the structural properties of biopolymers obtained from an inexpensive source such as the tomato fruit at increasingly detailed molecular levels. In its final phase, students design independent research projects related to structural investigations of various biomaterials obtained from fruits and vegetables. We tested our new curriculum by giving a summer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Narrative: My Trip To Hunter College As a member of a small community I have always dreamt of going away to college. Currently I go to Hunter College in Manhattan, which although is a very nice school, it also takes me two hours by ferry and train to get to class on time. I have also visited the campus and felt more at home than by going to a commuter school in the city. Hunter College does not offer much of a campus life and it would be hectic for me to join a club or a sport due to the travel time. This disappoints me because in high school I used to do a lot of community service, I was in a lot of clubs and I was also on some team sports. I know if I were to go to the University of Delaware that more options would be open to me to be involved in school as an active member of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. College Application Autobiography I was born July 6th 2001 to my mother; Arlishia Cornist and father, Rickey Smith– Hunter in Dallas, Texas. I was given the name Patience because at the time my mom was going through a time where she needed to learn how to patient. Even though I was fine at birth, the doctors had to keep me there for an extra day for tests since I had the sickle cell trait. As a child I was very spoiled until later that next year on September 10th 2002 my baby brother Rico Hunter was born. Most of my family is Creole, Cherokee Indian and Black which I now understand since over half of my families on both sides are from Louisiana. Unfortunately a year after my brother was born my parents got divorced and we moved away from our apartments in Mesquite to be close to our grandparents. Since then I now live in Oak Cliff with my mom, brother and both of my grandparents. We often go on vacations twice every year. One I vaguely remember was when we took a trip to Disneyworld in Florida and stayed at a hotel where they brought out lions for entertainment every day. My grandparents are real big on ... • 7. Hunter College Application Research Paper Hunter College and I, hold a familiar sight. Like Hunter College I admire the diversity and Hunter's student body is diverse like New York itself. Diversity is something that teaches society to excel at a higher altitude. Diversity gives people a new mindset to erase all the narrow–minded thoughts people have against each other, as well as experiences. Experience's are what shape us into the person we are today. They change a person's perspective and fade into memories, good or bad. My parents are immigrants from Pakistan so life was not easy in the kickoff. I remember we didn't have ample money for food so we would suffice with eating popcorn for dinner on most nights, and dipping bread in milk for breakfast jumpstarted our day. Looking at how much my parents progressed inspired me and made me realize that this country is made for dreams to come true. I was the oldest so my parents put a lot of effort in me. They taught me to be creative and remember my roots. I was a very confident kid and would be full of life until I graduated fifth grade. Watching middle school shows frightened me because of how ill–mannered the kids behaved to the main character. I never thought I was about to play that part. ... I remember all the doctors buzzing around her like flies; her life was at stake and at the last moment the doctors saving her. Examining the doctors they seemed nothing less than heroes to me. That's when I realized this is the profession I wanted to pursue. • 8. The Story Of My Search Lilly Bjorkquist The Story of My Search It's no secret that the economy has not been the best in the past five or so years, and a lot of schools have taken the hardest hit from that. Public schools have had to cut many different programs and areas of study because it is simply just too expensive to teach all of them and provide the correct materials for the students. This is causing the quality of students education to go down, and they aren't receiving all of the benefits that they should be. The education that a student receives starting in elementary school and all the way up into high schools sets them up for how they will do in college, and that will determine how they are going to live the rest of their lives. Since my future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools also cut sports, extra circular activities, and other events that make school fun for the students. I want to see how they deal with these cuts but yet still give the students the proper education. Overall, I just want to find out how schools make up for the classes that are taken out of the schools, and what they think is the best way to deal with this situation. My search had its good and bad points, but over all it was pretty successful and took me about two weeks to complete. I found out a lot of things that I didn't know, but some of the things were obvious from attending a public high school. At some points it was difficult to find information to back up what I wanted to explain, but for the most part I had a handful of good and credible sources to use. I used a few websites that were from major new sites, a former teacher, and school websites themselves. I got the majority of my information from the news sites, and that was very interesting because the different states showed different ways that they cut programs and how it differed depending on the school and the area. It also showed how some of them were similar and some of the cuts were placed in the same areas but not always. Another thing that I did was to interview one of my former teachers to see what her feelings where on the budgets cuts and how it directly effected her. It was good to hear some feedback from someone who was experiencing the cuts first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Who Is Hunter Jordan's Death In The Color Of Water In the book, " Color of Water" by James Mcbride, Ruth and James dealt with their stepfather's death differently. Ruth used the bike he rode on to remember him while James acted rebellious. Both James and Ruth suffered at the end due to their stepfather's death and they both showed that losing a family member is horrible to overcome. To begin with, James was doing great in school and made his parents proud by maintaining decent grades but everything changed once the tragedy of Hunter Jordan's death occurred. James saw Jordan as a father role model and was so hurt with his death. In the book Mcbride says, " I always thought of him as Daddy," (Mcbride 6). James focus on school change drastically. "Now she seemed intent on playing the piano, dodging bill collectors, forcing us into college through sheer willpower..." (7). Since Jordan died, she stood up and tried to do what Hunter did for their children. She forced them to go to school and get an education since that was important in their life. The last way Ruth dealt with her grief over Jordan's death was when she refused to learn how to drive. "Daddy's old car sat out front for weeks, parked at the curb.Silent.Clean.Polished. • 10. Why Do Athletes Be Paid Many athletes are praised for their performances in middle school and high school; however, when they realize they have made it to pay at a college level they tend to relax. Because of the constant praise athletes get an ego and tend to think because they are the best they do not have to try as hard as others on the team (or other athletes in general). They stop grinding (or putting in work) because they think they have already made it and their job is done. Some people are not as fast, skilled, or talented as other, but if you put work in you can still make it. Eric says that while others are relaxing and taking it easy while you are grinding soon enough you are going to pass them and become better than them. You have the drive and drive can ... Often student–oriented teaching provides a relatively convenient platform for active learning, and I count upon feedback from students to restructure my teaching methods. I appreciate that the use of technology can breathe new life into the traditional way of teaching a subject. Based on my interdisciplinary academic training, I realize that classroom teaching can prepare students to apply knowledge and skills, gained from studying a specific subject, to a variety of areas. I find it particularly rewarding that classroom teaching also offers an interactive means for motivating undergraduate students toward a self–teaching process. My teaching and mentoring experiences have made me realize that a key element of my teaching process should focus on engaging students in learning by connecting their ideas and organizing their thoughts on a topic. Relying on my research training, I am striving to build part of my basic teaching approach that can extend my endeavors to encourage students toward an independent thinking process. I have recognized that an efficiently operating teaching method requires an iterative process of adjustment and revision; there is no ready–made recipe or single–faceted approach to devise an effective and rewarding teaching ... • 12. Becoming A Physical Therapist For Doctors And Physicians Within our homes, schools, and community, there are many different fields of medicine to accommodate for the accelerating demand for doctors and physicians. With so many fields and concentrations of medicine, different schools have emerge to keep up with the demand. Now, not only are there primary care physicians, but also fields such as pediatrics and physical therapy. Since entering college, I have always had an internal debate and frustration on what I wanted to do and who I wanted to become and if I really did want to pursue a career in healthcare or engineering. Just recently deciding to aspire to become a physical therapist, I became so lost in how I was to pursue my career and the steps needed to achieve it. I have always thought that one only needed to take the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) and a letter of recommendation along with required coursework was all that was needed to become a doctor. Compiling this report allowed me to further research my desired healthcare career pathway and the experiences being a doctor comes with it. Although not a physical therapist, I consulted Dr. Judy A. Hunter, MD to discuss her work and experiences within the healthcare field. • 13. Medicine : A Long Unfortunate History Of Pseudoscience And... Medicine has a long unfortunate history of pseudoscience and folklore. In medieval times, the prescribed cure for a sick child would be to place a gourd in the crib of the infant. Pseudosciences such as astrology plagued the sick public with helpless cures. Many ills were thought to be soothed by bleeding the patient, which in reality did nothing, but harm the patient. It was said that early doctors would, "bleed, blister, and purge their patients to early graves." Most of the naive philosophies involving medicine were incorrect due to a lack of knowledge involving the workings body and anatomy of the body. The body was seen as a holy temple, not to be entered by dissection or studies for science. Many sickness were even thought to be the wrath of God and a punishment for a patients sins. There were, in general, no use of pain killers or understanding of germ theory. For generations, all that was known and taught about the skills of surgery and medicine originated from the sacred texts of Galen and Hippocrates. However, even those texts were writhe with inaccuracies and pseudoscience. Largely, it was not until John Hunter became his lucrative involvement in the field of medicine that human anatomy, and therefore human sickness, started to become understood. John Hunter was a bit of an unlikely character to have contributed so much to modern health. Coming from a large family on a Scottish farm, John Hunter never even finished grade school. Through this second look, we get a different perspective about it, either positive or negative. In my interview with Hunter Clifton, I asked her if she likes to write. She answered, "I like to write." It seems common at first to just "like" to write, but if you asked her eight years ago if she liked to write, she would have just plain out said "No!" Hunter grew up in Columbus Ohio with a love for Jesus, serving others, and missions. Her desire to write, however, took a while longer to develop. It required a little bit of time and a lot of God's assistance. Her experience in writing starts in Saint Brendan Middle School. During this time, she joined a writing club. • 21. Sweat, Stress, And Tears Essay Sweat, Stress, and Tears From the time an American student reaches the 6th grade, they are taught that the key to life is to do well in high school so that they can get accepted into the best possible colleges. However, this was not the case in our parents' generation. My parents never attended college, let alone got a high school diploma. At the age of seven, they were working and that was their normalcy, whereas, in today's generation, the process of elementary, middle, and high school is what we are taught the minute we enter this world. Although some students may agree, while others disagree, college is a no brainer for some whereas it is not even an option for others. At an early age, our family, schools, and media feeds have already embedded the word "college" into our young minds; we are taught that if we do not attend college we will not get a job, meaning no future and no money, something we all want, in this essay, I will be discussing the difference between those who stopped their education at an early age, those with a college education, and those who simply cannot afford it. There are four key topics I will be addressing in order to explain whether students should or should not attend college. First, I will discuss the historical background of universities before the 21st century. Next, I will review the methods our parents used to continue without a college degree. Then, I will discuss today's version of a college education and the debt some may face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Why Is College So Important? Why is college so important? A few years ago, most people only obtained their high school diploma and would receive any job in the market, but colleges have become the twenty–first century key to success. Jobs are now being given to those who are more educated and college provides this extra education. It is not the same as high school. High school education consists of a more general knowledge, which is a small amount of information about all the topics, but college is focused on the major. College graduates have more comprehension in their area than those with a high school diploma. As President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad." (Chicago Tribute). His point is that the more educated a person is; the higher goals they can obtain. College is the best way to succeed because it provides more education about deeper knowledge and moral value. It also opens up more job opportunities, and practical knowledge about the discipline and enlightened understanding. College allows for students to gain a deeper knowledge in all aspects of education. Yes, education is reading books, but college is focused more on making an analytical opinion of what is read and putting this information into practice. College education emphasizes on the future career of that person. It gives that person the opportunity to learn more information on a certain topic. Hunter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
