2. Music videos demonstrate genre
characteristics.
• K-Pop
• BTS – Boy in love
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8MfJg68oCs
• One characteristic of the K-Pop genre is choreographed dance routines,
which can be seen in the video for 'Boy in love'. The French Institut
national de l'audiovisuel defines K-pop as a "fusion of synthesized music,
sharp dance routines and fashionable, colorful outfits" and all of these can
be seen in the organised extravagance of 'boy in love', meaning it is typical
of the modern K-Pop genre.
3. A relationship between lyrics and visuals
• I want to break free – Queen
• https://youtu.be/f4Mc-NYPHaQ
•
• The relationship between lyrics and visuals in 'I want to
break free' give an amplified meaning to the song. The
video depicts a house- wife, played by Freddie Mercury,
who is stuck in a mundane daily life of household chores.
Paired with the lyrics, it is suggested to the viewer that the
house-wife portrayed in the video and possibly Mercury
himself, wanted to 'break free' from the lives they lead.
4. A relationship between music and visuals
• Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFWC4SiZBao
• The relationship between the music and the visuals in the
'Ultraviolence' video give a romantic, almost bridal feel. The
video shows Lana Del Rey as a bride, walking through fields
and eventually into an empty church. The music, in parts,
mimics the traditional 'Bridal chorus', but towards the end the
key changes as the visuals show her alone in a church. This
gives the video a sad tone.
5. The demands of the record label will demand a lot
of close up shots of the artist – develop a 'star
persona'
• Vogue – Madonna
• https://youtu.be/GuJQSAiODqI
• As well as a number of close ups of Madonna's face, she creates a
'star persona' as a very stylish artist.
6. Frequent reference to the notion of looking
• Buttons – Pussy Cat Dolls
