unmatched one, throughout human
history. It has the made the world

contributed towards Flattening of
world
Mushrooming TV Channels
Mobile phones
Social networking sites,
Blogging
Youth and Technology
 The Technological media, TV, mobiles, SNS and
blogging, have enabled the people to connect,
meet and collaborate with each other with equal
power and empowered them to reach farther, deeper
and cheaper as never before
 The number of users, of course youth, on each of
these sites is, alarmingly increasing day by day.
They prefer to socialize online rather than go and
meet people in person.
What do these young people disclose
on these social networking sites?
 Many use such sites to share their views, plans, likes
and dislikes, experiences about sports, gardening
and cinema, build friendships, business and other
related interests.
 They do lot of deals, whether it is in business or
relationships or finding partners is casually done
through these social networking sites
 The top five categories of blogs are entertainment,
current affairs, personal, fashion and technology.
Changing Life Style of Youth
Many don’t spend time for any outdoor
physical activity.
They stop relating to people in the
actual world, even with their own family
members.
They are professionally excellent but
they find difficult to cope up with
uncertainties of life

They adapt to different life style which
makes them compromise on values
Every five among ten are alcoholics.
Their role models are only celebrities
The unconventional comments on
serious issues by TV models have
dire consequences on their value
system.

 They show much interest in music, film and
clothing styles due to media influence
 They do not profess religion with its real
meaning.
 They don’t find any meaning in going to
temple/church or attending the weekly
worships.

 Where are we heading towards?
 Where would these technological media take us
ultimately? to Social Crisis? Social unrest? Disintegration
of society
 What types of people are in the making?
 What types of human relationships are in the becoming?
 How could a teacher instill values in youth in this virtual
world?
 Will educational institutions take this issue seriously in
the atmospheres of commercialization of education?
 Can educational institutions really create value-based
society?
Real Meaning of education
 The aim of education is not accumulation of
facts and information but it is a process of
transforming a man into human.
 The ideal of the institutions of higher
learning, according to Dr. Radha Krishnan, is
setting quest for peace and truth.
UGC and its objectives of granting
Autonomy to colleges
Acquisition of knowledge
Development of full-fledged
personality
Contribution to the society
Suggestions amidst this challenging
Scenario
1. Teach the subject to impart both knowledge
(Skills) and values. Every subject has its
own inherent (in-built) value. Focus on that
effectively
2. Every seminar/program must orient towards
with any of the value of national, human or
environment interest
3. Organizing students support service
programes- NSS, NCC, YRC, RRC, Current
Events Club, Fine Arts Club, Harmony club
and the like- by highlighting its inherent
values very explicitly
4. Promoting transparent and effective
governance of college office and
departments to enable the students to
understand the intricacies of effective and
honest administration
 Enabling them to identify the village based
problems and their causes through
extension activities
 Arranging for debates and group
discussions on ethical issues in Moral
classes in Association meetings
Fruits of value-based life
 Life is meaningful
 Life purpose is clear
 Life vision and goals are clear
 Decisions are easier
 Choices are clear
 Stress is reduced
 Feeling of fulfillment
Conclusion
 Materialism rusts while values are for ever.
 If the education system and educators are
able to educate and implant the values and
its fruits in students we are not far away in
producing value based society.

Youth and Technology  The Technological media, TV, mobiles, SNS and blogging, have enabled the people to connect, meet and collaborate with each other with equal power and empowered them to reach farther, deeper and cheaper as never before  The number of users, of course youth, on each of these sites is, alarmingly increasing day by day. They prefer to socialize online rather than go and meet people in person.

What do these young people disclose on these social networking sites?  Many use such sites to share their views, plans, likes and dislikes, experiences about sports, gardening and cinema, build friendships, business and other related interests.  They do lot of deals, whether it is in business or relationships or finding partners is casually done through these social networking sites  The top five categories of blogs are entertainment, current affairs, personal, fashion and technology.

  • 9. Changing Life Style of Youth They adapt to different life style which makes them compromise on values Every five among ten are alcoholics. Their role models are only celebrities The unconventional comments on serious issues by TV models have dire consequences on their value system.
  • 10. Changing Life Style of Youth  They show much interest in music, film and clothing styles due to media influence  They do not profess religion with its real meaning.  They don’t find any meaning in going to temple/church or attending the weekly worships.
  • 11. The following Questions arise….?  Where are we heading towards?  Where would these technological media take us ultimately? to Social Crisis? Social unrest? Disintegration of society  What types of people are in the making?  What types of human relationships are in the becoming?  How could a teacher instill values in youth in this virtual world?  Will educational institutions take this issue seriously in the atmospheres of commercialization of education?  Can educational institutions really create value-based society?
  • 12. Real Meaning of education  The aim of education is not accumulation of facts and information but it is a process of transforming a man into human.  The ideal of the institutions of higher learning, according to Dr. Radha Krishnan, is setting quest for peace and truth.

Promoting transparent and effective governance of college office and departments to enable the students to understand the intricacies of effective and honest administration
  • 16.  Enabling them to identify the village based problems and their causes through extension activities  Arranging for debates and group discussions on ethical issues in Moral classes in Association meetings
  • 17. Fruits of value-based life  Life is meaningful  Life purpose is clear  Life vision and goals are clear  Decisions are easier  Choices are clear  Stress is reduced  Feeling of fulfillment
  • 18. Conclusion  Materialism rusts while values are for ever.  If the education system and educators are able to educate and implant the values and its fruits in students we are not far away in producing value based society.
