treated with caution. In order to properly engage in the question one must first get a view of the
evolution of the law on bad character evidence.
Prior to the Criminal Justice Act 1989, (CJA 1989) at common law the accused was entitled to show
evidence of his good character for the purpose of suggesting the he was less likely to have
committed the offence. This evidence was only confined to evidence of reputation .
The advent of the CJA 1898 allowed the accused to be a competent (but not compellable) witness in
his own defence for the first time. Although the Act did not provide a definition of bad character it
was widely accepted to mean both reputation and disposition. If the accused elected to give
evidence, he had a shield against cross–examination about the commission or conviction of offences
not covered by the indictment, and about his bad character generally. The shield could be removed
in situations explained in s.1 (3) such as an assertion of good character or giving evidence against
any other person charged in the same proceeding .
Hence the prosecution was not allowed to cross–examine a defendant unless the defendant
intentionally threw away the shield by giving evidence of his good character as confirmed then by
Viscount Sankey in Maxwell .

This was relevant to my paper in answering the question of why there are certain expectations of
women in television news. The textbook, Gender, Race and Class in Media had a few chapters
relevant to my paper. Larry Gross wrote a chapter titled, "Out of the
Mainstream: Sexual Minorities and Mass Media." He discussed various stereotypes in our society
that lead to stereotypes in all areas of our lives. I found some of my sources from Oasis, and also
used a couple of magazine articles that were relevant to the subject. I focused on the questions that I
wanted to answer and drew points from the material that were relevant and provided substantial
evidence to answer my questions. I found that opinions and thoughts of women who had been
through the business were most helpful. There was one big limitation I faced if I wanted to prove
that women in television news were discriminated upon based on sex and age. Women have been
fired from their anchor positions, and it has seemed that the reasons were because of looks or aging.
But this is hard to prove. In August, Carol
Schrader, a woman anchor from KETV–TV in Omaha, Nebraska was asked to leave.
She said that it was because of her age, although her bosses didn't say that was the reason, stating

there's something missing from the list of names above– a group constituting nearly 51% of our

journalists. Scarce are women confidently voicing their political opinions on reputable news
channels. Scarce are truly powerful female journalists. In reality, this problem goes unnoticed by

were so blatantly marginalized in this industry. It is perfectly valid to question the relevancy of such
an obscure issue, but obscurity does not equate to unimportance. Portraying women unequally in the
media defies not only our principles, but also the nation's principles. How can we claim that we are

What is the Hearsay Rule? The hearsay rule is based inherently on the concise definition of hearsay.
In this regard, hearsay can be defined as any statement other than that made by an individual in the
process of testifying at a hearing or trial, which is offered for purposes of affording evidence of truth
pertaining to a particular matter. According to the Cornell University Law School (2014), the
hearsay rue is the rule that prohibits out of court statements from being admitted as evidence at a
trial. B and large, the hearsay rule is motivated intrinsically by the understanding in the belief that
hearsay is unreliable. For example, if a witnessed stopped at a scene of a car accident and a survivor
intimated to him or her that the driver caused the accident, this statement cannot be admitted as

Between this current quarter and the last, I pushed myself beyond limits on another section of the
Appalachian Trail. On the morning of day number 3 out of 6, I snapped a selfie of myself as I
crested a ridge line on a bald (treeless ridge line with unlimited views). The photo was unique and
looked manipulated with a filter due to the glare from the sunrise burning through thin patches of
fog spilling over the ridge as if the mountain was an airfoil. That photo is now my Facebook profile
picture and titled, "Nothing artificial." I have always pushed myself to be true and authentic in all I
do. That does not mean being perfect, it means being honest with myself.
Unfortunately, this strength of authenticity (i.e., the VIA strength of honesty is further defined as
being authentic with integrity) facilitates a mindset that does not tolerate others who are not. One of
my other strengths (as tested in a spiritual gifts test) is discernment. I can usually tell when someone
is not being authentic. I strive to be authentic and I expect the same from others if they want me to

Sexual harassment accusations regarding public figures has been one of the most popular news we
see on social media these days. "Sexual harassment becomes a crime only when there is a
nonconsensual touching or sexual contact that can be prosecuted." (Henning, 2017). Some of the
accused individuals are admitting their guilt in some of these situations, while many are denying
these allegations, particularly those that occurred decades ago. In many of the instances, money and
