Agricultural production entails investment of resources and farmers will have no incentive for
making investments in areas where there is little opportunity for marketing their products or if the
returns accruing from the sales of agricultural products do not reflect the opportunity cost of
investment. As a result, most farmers in areas with few marketing opportunities are engaged
primarily in subsistence agriculture, which has constrained improvement in their quality of life [3].
The problem of market access is linked to the inability of farmers to meet market standards, low
volumes of produce, wide dispersion of producers, presence of middlemen and perceived low prices
in the formal market [1–7]. Therefore, development policies in Ghana have focused on the
modernization and commercialization of the agricultural sector in addressing the major agricultural
production and marketing challenges.
[8,9]. The development policy of the Food and Agricultural Sectors II (FASDEP II) is notably
among these policies. It seeks to increase both the competitiveness and integration of farmers in
domestic and international markets by producing the required volumes as well as the quality of
commodities on a timely basis. Specifically, strategies adopted by this policy to

Identifying and analyzing global integrated marketing campaigns
Abstract
Integrated marketing is a strategy regarding the application of consistent brand messaging across
myriad marketing channels. It came about after businesses realized that they needed to offer their
customers more than the regular method of advertising. Integrated communication is mainly focused
on the consumer rather than the needs of an organization. It has improved the performance of many
businesses in various markets and their brands. This paper seeks to identify the global integrated
marketing campaigns and analyze them with the use of case studies in the television and print
media.
Introduction
In order for a business to create awareness of its products and convince people to buy them, it needs
to do a promotion of the product. This involves communication. The goal of promotion is create
awareness to consumers of a certain product in the market. Secondly, to persuade customers to
choose their product compared to rival products. Lastly, promotion aims to remind the customers on
the importance of buying the product. There are five main types of promotions:
Advertising
Personal selling
Sales promotion
Direct marketing
Public relations
The concept of integrated marketing communication (IMC) emerged in the late twentieth century.
This bore out of a realization by marketers that there was a need for businesses to offer more than
advertisements to their

occurs when a single firm dominates production and distribution in a particular industry, either
nationally or locally." (Campbell, Martin, Fabos) The Walt Disney Company is one of the world's
largest media conglomerate's which specializes in entertainment. The company overlooks, "the
movie, TV, toys and theme parks business by owning six of the top ten franchises in the world."

of Comcast's history from the day it was founded to its current stature.
Timeline of important events in the organization's history
Comcast Corporation was founded in 1963 by Julian A. Brodsky, Daniel Aaron, and Ralph J.

and mergers between 1986 and 1996. It is then that it transacted with E! Entertainment, E. W.

ABC and the Australian Multimedia Industry
As the ABC is an organisation heavily involved within the Australian Multimedia Industry, the tools
and equipment used are integral to the quality of the content produced. For different areas of
production, the tools and equipment used will differ, for example, when working in television,
equipment would include a set, cameras, tripods, microphones, props, lighting, video monitors and
teleprompter. To edit and deliver good quality television content, the department would use various
editing tools and software's during post–production focusing on almost all areas of audience
experience such as visuals and audio. Some of these tools include Photoshop, Adobe After Effects,
Flash and Computer–generated imagery (CGI). When working with radio, the equipment needed to
produce a podcast or broadcast includes a sound proof room or studio, sound boards, microphones
and switchboards and the tools used for editing would be solely based around sounds to enhance the
audience's aural experience, so this would include sound editing software such as audacity.
ABC Television works with independent producers to ensure that the content being delivered to the
public is diverse and unique. Strict processes are followed by both parties to ensure that the content
is of high quality and serves a purpose to the audience.

Executive Summary
The Gold Coast is indisputably Australia's most popular holiday destination and offers many
different types of beachfront accommodation, award–winning dining, shopping and thrilling
attractions. This marketing report aimed to devise a marketing strategy for this location. It began by
scanning the macro environment and found that the location is politically stable, although currently
the entire world is being severely affected by the economic recession. This has therefore meant that
non–essential spending is down, which will have a negative economic impact. Conversely, new
technologies such as efficient aircraft are allowing for more visitors to the region. A current concern
is that of global warming, being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The information is to be presented in report format, using logical steps in the strategic marketing
process, including scanning of the Macro Environments, SWOT Analysis. Then a review of the
existing marketing of the location and some of its competitors will be carried out before using this
existing information to research new promotional items.
1.3 Objectives
The key objectives are to identify the existing environment in which the location operates using the
macro environmental scan. This will lead to the SWOT analysis where marketing strengths,
weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats will present themselves based upon this research.
The next main objective will be to research new advertising and promotion avenues based upon the

Netball Is A Ball Sport Played By Two Teams Of Seven Players
Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early
versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had been
standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women 's Basketball
(later renamed the International Netball Federation (INF)) was formed. As of 2011, the INF
comprises more than 60 national teams organized into five global regions.
Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Each team attempts to
score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are
assigned specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement to
certain areas of the court. During general play, a player with the ball can hold on to it for only three
seconds before shooting for a goal or passing to another player. The winning team is the one that
scores the most goals. Netball games are 60 minutes long. Variations have been developed to
increase the game 's pace and appeal to a wider audience.
Netball is most popular in Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly
played by women. According to the INF, netball is played by more than 20 million people in more
than 80 countries.[12][13] Major transnational competitions take place, including the Netball
Superleague in Great Britain and the ANZ Championship in Australia and New Zealand. Three

Imperialism And Cultural Imperialism
Stephen Kwame through content analyses and observation techniques investigated the role of mass
communication in media imperialism in the world and its impact on the development that has led to
cultural imperialism in the world . The main objectives of the research are:
1. To define the effect of media domination on the cultural settings of the world.
2. To see how the western nations have become targets.
3. To define the magnitude of Americanization of beliefs through the media.
In studying the media, he discovered that at all levels of the human engagement, the samples of his

media hegemony'' (p.36) The case of South Korea is shown by (Jin, 2007) who admits that there are

Korea now produces and sends local television programmes in the export market in that region''

The attention of the project research in the mass media is so large that is has become enormous for
the scholars to comprehend. The research looks at mass communication as a trajectory to all
imperialism. It will be based on the belief that mass communication has necessitated cultural
imperialism. Owusu conducted a study of four items to pursue this fact. They include music, news
from television programming, the film, and the American and Western world domination of the
other nation's culture through the media. The belief is that the Northern Hemisphere and the West, in
particular, have projected the media/cultural hegemony. At some point, even some Western countries
like Canada has become worried of the Americanization of the world; it has to regulate the
American content coming into their media. The research on the press has become so varied that

The plan is to market these 3D releases by debuting in the consumer home with select Sony 3D
products. This launching would be during the high–traffic holiday retail season which will be
featured nationwide in the United States.
Disney recently announced it was launching eight mobile games for the iPhone, Android,
Blackberry and Java/Brew. Both companies are motivated by what seems to be a booming casual
gaming market.
Another Disney invention is the soon to be released netbook, a "Netpal" for 6–12 year–olds. Made
by netbook pioneer Asustek and selling for $350 at Toys "R" Us starting in late July. A version with
more storage and a longer battery will go through Amazon.com and other retailers. The widget
should go international by the end of the year. The Walt Disney Company is also now one of the
biggest players in the fast–growing social gaming business. Recently the company said it had agreed
to acquire Playdom–the outfit behind games like Social City, Sorority Life, and Market Street for up
to $763 million. Under the terms of the deal, Disney (DIS) will pay $563.2 million for Playdom up
front and an additional $200 million if the social gaming company meets certain unspecified growth
thresholds. For Disney purchasing Playdom, the No. 4 social gaming company on Facebook (and
No. 1 on MySpace), is a quick and easy way to extend its characters and brands to social games, a
market that could be worth $1.5 billion within three years.

Also, in order to define a certain phenomenon based on theory, I will hypothesize how extent the
thought and theory are connected. For instance, globalization affects the way of perception of the
world, which Tsagarousianou describes that "The global system of sovereign states has been familiar
both structurally and symbolically in the daily acts of imagination through which space and human
identity are construed. (Tsagarousianou, 2007, p175). I will analyze how the interviewer perceives
media as part of their daily life in their mind.
Method
I conducted an interview with 5 of the interviewer who is categorized as a contemporary immigrant.
The interview style is conducted through one to one conversation and it was conducted in question
conversation style with general questionnaires. In addition to the questionnaires, I expanded them in
depth by an additional conversation in order to figure out the meaning behind the answer. Also, I
conveyed them about what my aim of the questionnaires before conducting the interview. 4 of them

Television
I did this to make an account Television is a telecommunication medium that is used for transmitting
and receiving moving images and sound. Television can transmit images that are monochrome, in
color, or in three dimensions. The word television comes . Television may also refer specifically to a
television set, television program, or television transmission.
First commercially available in very crude form on an experimental basis in the late 1920s, then
popularized in greatly improved form shortly after World War II, the television set has become
commonplace in homes, businesses, and institutions, particularly as a vehicle for entertainment,
advertising, and news. During the 1950s, television became the primary medium for molding ...

The holes were spaced at equal angular intervals such that, in a single rotation, the disk would allow
light to pass through each hole and onto a light–sensitive selenium sensor which produced the
electrical pulses. As an image was focused on the rotating disk, each hole captured a horizontal
"slice" of the entire image.
Nipkow's design was not practical until advances in amplifier tube technology became available.
Later designs used a rotating mirror–drum scanner to capture the image and a cathode ray tube as a
display device, but moving images were still not possible due to the poor sensitivity of the selenium
sensors. In 1907, Russian scientist Boris Rosing became the first inventor to use a CRT in the
receiver of an experimental television system. He used mirror–drum scanning to transmit simple
geometric shapes to the CRT.
Using a Nipkow disk, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird successfully demonstrated the
transmission of moving silhouette images in London in 1925 and of moving, monochromatic images
in 1926. Baird's scanning disk produced an image of 30 lines resolution, just enough to discern a
human face, from a double spiral of lenses. This demonstration by Baird is generally agreed to be
the world's first true demonstration of TV, albeit a mechanical form no longer in use. Remarkably, in
1927, Baird also invented the world's first video recording system, "Phonovision;" because the

Public Service Broadcasting In Australia
There is no doubt that the proliferation of digital media has placed great stress on the already fragile
status of public service broadcasting (Miragliotta and Errington, 2012). The convergent media
environment alongside restraints on funding and skeptic views regarding their necessity have posed
great challenges altering the role of public service broadcasters in the 21st century. However, there
are many signs pointing toward a renewed government commitment within the Australian sector, to
suggest that what the digital revolution has brought is not only challenges but also opportunities
(Spigelman, 2013). By examining the recent movements of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation
(ABC) in addition to specific reference of the Special Broadcasting Company (SBS) this essay shall
seek to address the current debate surrounding the necessity of public service broadcasters in the
21st century. To this day, the charter written by John Reith, the first director general of the British
Broadcasting Company (BBC) in 1926, is believed to have established the principles governing
public service broadcasting. John Reith first set out his ideas about how public ... Show more

Much like traditional forms of media, public service broadcasting was feeling the effects of the
Internet on their audience. Skepticism from the government, commercial media and the general
public posed questions surrounding the necessity for the ABC to exist in the 21st century arguing
that in such a convergent age of media production and content, the original principles governing
public service broadcasting were both inadequate and inconsistent. In order for the ABC to combat
these challenges, associated with pessimistic questioning, the corporation underwent significant
'restructuring' of their internal operations with cuts to budgets and jobs, and reviews to increase their
internal efficiency (Miragliotta and Errington,

Analysis of the Music Industry
Music may be defined romantically as `the food of love ' (Shakespeare) or more prosaically as
`sound with particular characteristics ' (Wikipedia), but it is undeniably a `vibrant artform ' (Arts
Council England) and one which touches more people, in more ways, than any other art form.
In commercial terms, music certainly generates a higher market value than the other arts, although a
comprehensive market size for music in all its manifestations is impossible to calculate. Key Note
has put a value of £3.03bn on consumer spending on music in 2005, derived from three sectors:
recorded music (which accounts for the bulk of the market), live music and musical instruments.
However, data for other related markets are included, such as ... Show more content on

Each chapter of the report starts with more detailed definitions and coverage.
For coverage of recorded music, Key Note is grateful to the statistics and commentary provided by
the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), detailed later in this chapter under Key Trade Associations.
For other sectors, an important component of the report is the field research into the attitudes and
buying habits of UK consumers with regard to music, conducted for Key Note by NEMS Market
Research specifically for this report.
Report Background
This is the first edition of a Market Review of the Music Industry published by Key Note. Although
coverage is targeted mainly at the UK market, the global aspects of the music industry are given full
acknowledgment. In particular, it is recorded music – by far the largest market by value – that has
evolved a global structure. Since 2004, it has featured just four `majors ' owning dozens of famous
labels and holding recording contracts (or back catalogues) for the vast majority of the world 's top–
selling recording artists.
The `big four ' major groups, including the UK 's own `home–grown ' giant, EMI Group PLC, also
own rights to publish and to license the majority of successful songs, theme music, etc. These rights
are increasingly important as the market moves towards a more fluid, ICT (information and
communications technology)

400 kV high–tension transmission lines near Madrid
Electric power transmission or "high–voltage electric transmission" is the bulk transfer of electrical
energy, from generating power plants to substations located near population centers. This is distinct
from the local wiring between high–voltage substations and customers, which is typically referred to
as electric power distribution. Transmission lines, when interconnected with each other, become
high–voltage transmission networks. In the US, these are typically referred to as "power grids" or
just "the grid", while in the UK the network is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High–voltage overhead conductors are not covered by insulation. The conductor material is nearly
always an aluminium alloy, made into several strands and possibly reinforced with steel strands.
Copper was sometimes used for overhead transmission but aluminium is lower in weight for only
marginally reduced performance, and much lower in cost. Overhead conductors are a commodity
supplied by several companies worldwide. Improved conductor material and shapes are regularly
used to allow increased capacity and modernize transmission circuits. Conductor sizes range from
12 mm2 (#6 American wire gauge) to 750 mm2 (1,590,000 circular mils area), with varying
resistance and current–carrying capacity. Thicker wires would lead to a relatively small increase in
capacity due to the skin effect, that causes most of the current to flow close to the surface of the
wire.
Today, transmission–level voltages are usually considered to be 110 kV and above. Lower voltages
such as 66 kV and 33 kV are usually considered

Channel 7 Essay
Television news exists to inform and entertain the public regarding local, national, and international
news. A variety of news broadcasts are available for all subcultural classes to enable them to be
knowledgeable concerning sport, weather, finance, and general issues from around the world, using
this easily accessible and logical medium. Two of the most well–known services are Channel Seven
and the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC). The Channel Seven Network gains funds from
commercial revenue and concentrates on providing news that is appealing to the general public and
entertaining. High ratings are crucial to Channel Seven as it is privately owned and heavily relies on
the advertisement shown in between news segments. ABC news is owned and financed by the
Australian Government, therefore high ratings are not relied on and their focus is on providing
worldwide news with accomplished facts. These factors affect the content and perspective, which
are tailored to specific target audiences. Each news source has a distinct audience based on the

In a nutshell, it is because the economic benefits are grossly overstated and are outweighed by the
wide–ranging environmental, public health and weapons proliferation problems and risks. Uranium
accounted for 0.19 per cent of Australia's export revenue in 2011/12 (the last available figures)1. By
the most generous estimate, uranium accounts for 0.015% of all jobs in Australia.2 For Queensland,
there is the additional limitation that the state has around just 2% of Australia's uranium resources.
Clearly, the industry has no capacity to deliver significant economic or employment benefits.
Instead of acknowledging the extremely limited economic potential of uranium mining in
Queensland, the LNP state government, the Australian Uranium Association and the Queensland
Resources Council have continued a pattern of extravagant and unsubstantiated claims regarding
jobs, revenue and royalties. Enthusiasm is no substitute for evidence and limited sectoral self–
interest is not the same as the public interest. The assumptions and analysis of those promoting the
uranium sector in Queensland needs to be challenged and reviewed.

INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS
Resources
Tangible Resources Tangible resources help contribute to the development of capabilities and
competencies in a company. The biggest resource for Netflix, the world's largest online
entertainment subscription service, is CEO and founder Reed Hastings. Hastings founded Netflix in
1997, and launched the online subscription service in 1999. For the first four years, the subscriber
base was over 2 million (Maddox & Thompson, 2006). As of August 2005, Netflix employed
approximately 1,200 people in the United States. About 1,000 of them work in the company's
distribution centers around the country; close to 200 employees work at the company's headquarters
in Los Gatos; and 20 employees work in studios in Los Angeles (ChronicleJobs, 2005). Netflix
offers their members more than 55,000 DVD title selections. This is more than any other online
rental service in the United States. In 2005, Netflix shipped more than 1 million DVDs a day. Its
inventory was approximately 20 million DVDs, and Netflix spent $84.2 million acquiring new
DVDs. As of September 30, 2005, the company's balance sheet showed its DVD holdings at a net
value of $52.7 million after depreciation (Maddox &

Eisner's Mousetrap Disney's CEO says the company has a lot of varied problems he can fix. But
what if the real issue is something he can't face? By Marc Gunther Reporter Associate Carol Vinzant
September 6, 1999 FORTUNE Magazine) – Michael Eisner, the famously hands–on CEO of Walt
Disney, is up to his old tricks. Last night he screened a rough cut of Dinosaurs, Disney's big
animated movie for next summer; he loved the story but complained that some jokes were stale.
Today he's holding a four–hour brainstorming session about Mickey Mouse, looking for ways to
keep the 71–year–old rodent relevant. (One idea: a skateboarding Mickey.) Later, he'll watch Peter
Jennings' newscast on Disney–owned ABC and surf the Internet to see how the ... Show more

There's no quick fix in sight either. Tarzan, the $160 million summer blockbuster, won't have much
impact on earnings; the movie cost too much to make and isn't selling enough T–shirts and toys
because the market's glutted with Star Wars stuff. That's one of the scary things about today's
Disney: The company has grown so big and its problems are so far–reaching––ranging from the
phenomenon of "age compression" to the explosion of media choices––that they can't be fixed by a
couple of hit movies or TV shows or more Disney stores. The other scary thing is this: Disney seems
less able than ever to cope with adversity. That's because Eisner, for all his creativity and charisma
and grand plans, presides over an insular––some say arrogant––corporate culture where decision–
making is hierarchical, centralized, and slow. It's an utter mismatch for the Internet age. "This isn't
Mickey's house anymore," says a former Disney insider. "It's a multibillion–dollar company." Eisner
does have a plan. He is cutting costs and reengineering a company that got bloated with success.
He's making overseas growth a top priority. He wants Disney to be an Internet giant, taking on
Yahoo and America Online. And, yes, he'll keep on tweaking theme park rides and screening ABC
pilots and driving subordinates up the wall with his meddling, because he fervently believes that if
you demand high quality and develop synergy, financial results will

These recommendations are based on: (1) our newly completed two–year study of previous mass
media campaigns and innovative practices in advertising, marketing, and public relations; and (2)
our experience in implementing the Harvard Alcohol Project, a research–based media campaign
conducted in collaboration with the nation's broadcast, advertising, and entertainment industries.
What Can Mass Media Campaigns Accomplish In Health Promotion? When the broadcast media
emerged as a major force, many public health advocates assumed that the presentation of factual
information through public communication campaigns would automatically change attitudes and
lead to more healthful behavior. Subsequently, when several such campaigns produced
disappointing results, this boundless optimism was replaced by the highly pessimistic view that
mass media campaigns to change behavior are doomed to failure. Investigators recognized that a
campaign could reinforce existing behavior, but this was viewed as the most that could be achieved.
Pessimists noted that the apparent success of commercial advertising had raised unrealistic
expectations about the potential of mass media to change behavior. In fact, there are basic
differences in the goals of commercial advertising and public health campaigns. Commercial
advertising seldom is designed to bring about new attitudes or patterns of behavior; rather, it intends

Walt Disney Case
9–701–035 REV: JULY 25, 2001 D MICHAEL G. RUKSTAD DAVID COLLIS O The Walt Disney
Company: The Entertainment King I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing–that it was all
started by a mouse. –Walt Disney The Walt Disney Company's rebirth under Michael Eisner was
widely considered to be one of the th great turnaround stories of the late 20 century. When Eisner
arrived in 1984, Disney was languishing and had narrowly avoided takeover and dismemberment.
By the end of 2000, however, revenues had climbed from $1.65 billion to $25 billion under Eisner,
while net earnings had risen from $0.1 billion to $1.2 billion (see Exhibit 1). During Eisner's first 15
years, Disney generated a 27% annual total 1 return to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The result was Mickey Mouse. When Mickey failed to elicit much interest, Walt tried to attract a
distributor by adding synchronized sound–something that had 8,9 never been attempted in a cartoon.
His gamble paid off handsomely with the release of Steamboat 10 Willie in 1928. Overnight,
Mickey Mouse became an international sensation known variously as "Topolino" (Italy), "Raton
Mickey" (Spain), and "Musse Pigg" (Sweden). However, the company was still strapped for cash, so
it licensed Mickey Mouse for the cover of a pencil tablet–the first of many such licensing
agreements. Over time, as short–term cash problems subsided, Disney began to worry 11 about
brand equity and thus licensed its name only to "the best companies." The Disney brothers ran their
company as a flat, non–hierarchical organization, in which everyone, including Walt, used their first
names and no one had titles. "You don't have to have a title," said 12 Walt. "If you're important to
the company, you'll know it." Although a taskmaster driven to achieve creativity and quality, Walt
emphasized teamwork, communication, and cooperation. He pushed 13 himself and his staff so hard
that he suffered a nervous breakdown in 1931. However, many workers were fiercely committed to
the company. Despite winning six Academy Awards and successfully introducing new characters
such as Goofy and Donald Duck, Walt realized

Agricultural production entails investment of resources and farmers will have no incentive for making investments in areas where there is little opportunity for marketing their products or if the returns accruing from the sales of agricultural products do not reflect the opportunity cost of investment. As a result, most farmers in areas with few marketing opportunities are engaged primarily in subsistence agriculture, which has constrained improvement in their quality of life [3]. The problem of market access is linked to the inability of farmers to meet market standards, low volumes of produce, wide dispersion of producers, presence of middlemen and perceived low prices in the formal market [1–7]. Therefore, development policies in Ghana have focused on the modernization and commercialization of the agricultural sector in addressing the major agricultural production and marketing challenges.

Name: Lecturer: Course: Date: Identifying and analyzing global integrated marketing campaigns Abstract Integrated marketing is a strategy regarding the application of consistent brand messaging across myriad marketing channels. It came about after businesses realized that they needed to offer their customers more than the regular method of advertising. Integrated communication is mainly focused on the consumer rather than the needs of an organization. It has improved the performance of many businesses in various markets and their brands. This paper seeks to identify the global integrated marketing campaigns and analyze them with the use of case studies in the television and print media. Introduction In order for a business to create awareness of its products and convince people to buy them, it needs to do a promotion of the product. This involves communication. The goal of promotion is create awareness to consumers of a certain product in the market. Secondly, to persuade customers to choose their product compared to rival products. Lastly, promotion aims to remind the customers on the importance of buying the product. There are five main types of promotions: Advertising Personal selling Sales promotion Direct marketing Public relations The concept of integrated marketing communication (IMC) emerged in the late twentieth century. • 28. Netball Is A Ball Sport Played By Two Teams Of Seven Players Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had been standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women 's Basketball (later renamed the International Netball Federation (INF)) was formed. As of 2011, the INF comprises more than 60 national teams organized into five global regions. Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Each team attempts to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are assigned specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement to certain areas of the court. During general play, a player with the ball can hold on to it for only three seconds before shooting for a goal or passing to another player. The winning team is the one that scores the most goals. Netball games are 60 minutes long. Variations have been developed to increase the game 's pace and appeal to a wider audience. Netball is most popular in Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly played by women. According to the INF, netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries.[12][13] Major transnational competitions take place, including the Netball Superleague in Great Britain and the ANZ Championship in Australia and New Zealand. First commercially available in very crude form on an experimental basis in the late 1920s, then popularized in greatly improved form shortly after World War II, the television set has become commonplace in homes, businesses, and institutions, particularly as a vehicle for entertainment, advertising, and news. As an image was focused on the rotating disk, each hole captured a horizontal "slice" of the entire image. Nipkow's design was not practical until advances in amplifier tube technology became available. Later designs used a rotating mirror–drum scanner to capture the image and a cathode ray tube as a display device, but moving images were still not possible due to the poor sensitivity of the selenium sensors. In 1907, Russian scientist Boris Rosing became the first inventor to use a CRT in the receiver of an experimental television system. He used mirror–drum scanning to transmit simple geometric shapes to the CRT. Using a Nipkow disk, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird successfully demonstrated the transmission of moving silhouette images in London in 1925 and of moving, monochromatic images in 1926. Baird's scanning disk produced an image of 30 lines resolution, just enough to discern a human face, from a double spiral of lenses. • 48. Public Service Broadcasting In Australia There is no doubt that the proliferation of digital media has placed great stress on the already fragile status of public service broadcasting (Miragliotta and Errington, 2012). The convergent media environment alongside restraints on funding and skeptic views regarding their necessity have posed great challenges altering the role of public service broadcasters in the 21st century. However, there are many signs pointing toward a renewed government commitment within the Australian sector, to suggest that what the digital revolution has brought is not only challenges but also opportunities (Spigelman, 2013). By examining the recent movements of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in addition to specific reference of the Special Broadcasting Company (SBS) this essay shall seek to address the current debate surrounding the necessity of public service broadcasters in the 21st century. To this day, the charter written by John Reith, the first director general of the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) in 1926, is believed to have established the principles governing public service broadcasting. In order for the ABC to combat these challenges, associated with pessimistic questioning, the corporation underwent significant 'restructuring' of their internal operations with cuts to budgets and jobs, and reviews to increase their internal efficiency (Miragliotta and Errington, ... Analysis of the Music Industry Music may be defined romantically as `the food of love ' (Shakespeare) or more prosaically as `sound with particular characteristics ' (Wikipedia), but it is undeniably a `vibrant artform ' (Arts Council England) and one which touches more people, in more ways, than any other art form. In commercial terms, music certainly generates a higher market value than the other arts, although a comprehensive market size for music in all its manifestations is impossible to calculate. Key Note has put a value of £3.03bn on consumer spending on music in 2005, derived from three sectors: recorded music (which accounts for the bulk of the market), live music and musical instruments. Although coverage is targeted mainly at the UK market, the global aspects of the music industry are given full acknowledgment. In particular, it is recorded music – by far the largest market by value – that has evolved a global structure. Since 2004, it has featured just four `majors ' owning dozens of famous labels and holding recording contracts (or back catalogues) for the vast majority of the world 's top– selling recording artists. The `big four ' major groups, including the UK 's own `home–grown ' giant, EMI Group PLC, also own rights to publish and to license the majority of successful songs, theme music, etc. These rights are increasingly important as the market moves towards a more fluid, ICT (information and communications technology) ... By the most generous estimate, uranium accounts for 0.015% of all jobs in Australia.2 For Queensland, there is the additional limitation that the state has around just 2% of Australia's uranium resources. Clearly, the industry has no capacity to deliver significant economic or employment benefits. Instead of acknowledging the extremely limited economic potential of uranium mining in Queensland, the LNP state government, the Australian Uranium Association and the Queensland Resources Council have continued a pattern of extravagant and unsubstantiated claims regarding jobs, revenue and royalties. By Marc Gunther Reporter Associate Carol Vinzant September 6, 1999 FORTUNE Magazine) – Michael Eisner, the famously hands–on CEO of Walt Disney, is up to his old tricks. Last night he screened a rough cut of Dinosaurs, Disney's big animated movie for next summer; he loved the story but complained that some jokes were stale. Today he's holding a four–hour brainstorming session about Mickey Mouse, looking for ways to keep the 71–year–old rodent relevant. (One idea: a skateboarding Mickey.) Tarzan, the $160 million summer blockbuster, won't have much impact on earnings; the movie cost too much to make and isn't selling enough T–shirts and toys because the market's glutted with Star Wars stuff. That's one of the scary things about today's Disney: The company has grown so big and its problems are so far–reaching––ranging from the phenomenon of "age compression" to the explosion of media choices––that they can't be fixed by a couple of hit movies or TV shows or more Disney stores. The other scary thing is this: Disney seems less able than ever to cope with adversity. That's because Eisner, for all his creativity and charisma and grand plans, presides over an insular––some say arrogant––corporate culture where decision– making is hierarchical, centralized, and slow. It's an utter mismatch for the Internet age. "This isn't Mickey's house anymore," says a former Disney insider. "It's a multibillion–dollar company." Eisner does have a plan. He is cutting costs and reengineering a company that got bloated with success. He's making overseas growth a top priority. He wants Disney to be an Internet giant, taking on Yahoo and America Online.
