Technological Changes and Evolution
Over the course of a couple of years we've seen technology change and evolve as scientists and
developers continue to develop mobile devices that will intentional become daily necessities for the
human kind. Who would have thought that mobile devices and handheld devices would become so
popular that you can find a young toddler using one to learn about different subjects and activities?
Cellular devices, mobile devices, and computers have evolved so fast that they're being used not
only to search or make your standard call or internet browse but also to pay bills, video chat, and
pretty much anything you can think of. Companies are now combining their profiles with developers
to come up with applications for phones and different handheld devices in order to better interact
with their customers. With the new wave of technology breaking so many barrels, that scientist in
the past would have never thought of years ago during the era of the first light bulb, one tends to
wonder have we as a race become too dependent on technology? What about the reliability of these
applications we have come so use to using on a daily bases? How do these applications measure up
to the basic knowledge and fundamentals that we once only knew and used? In this essay we go into
depth on how technology specific mobile device applications have helped us as a race and what
possible risk may come with using these applications. During the 1990s individuals had embraced
the first major phase of the

The Impact Of Technology On Our Lives
Technology has innovated our lives drastically in many ways dating back to several years ago, from
the time of the invention of the very first microscope to the creation of the very first cellphone. The
evolution of technology has not only impacted the way we as a society function in our daily lives
but as well as how we manage to pursue a better economic living. The human population is and has
been facing a crisis that is often ignored by the excitement of the use of modern technology. The
conversation of technology replacing the use of mankind jobs is a topic that has built a sudden
interest and concern in many talks surrounding economists, politicians, workers and the
unemployed. So why does the unemployment rate increase when the production of new technology
also increases? Technology was first created to replace the use of mankind application work on
certain tasks. If this was not the case then tractors, calculators, vehicles, and computers would not
have been invented. It is very well obvious that the fear of the past has long arrived, many argued
and are still arguing that the advancement of technology will not only change the way we see and
value our daily tasks but as well as the way we create a revolution of unemployment crisis. In this
paper I will discuss the evolution of technology, the use of modern technology and how it has
affected our lives, the advantages and disadvantages of modern technology and finally last but not
least what economist have to say

Suffering The Pros And Cons Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a program that can perform tasks that a human can do, like speech
recognition, visual perception, language translation. AIs have been a very popular topic in scientists
and engineers. An example of artificial intelligence is Watson, this program can answer questions,
Watson was featured in a jeopardy game along with two former winners, Watson did, in fact, win
first place with one million dollars, but Watson was only given three clues to solve the question, the
program was not connected to the internet. The program quickly outsmarted his opponents, but had
trouble in other categories, meaning that the program beat human intelligence on the post topic.
Artificial Intelligence will become a superintelligence because of the progress rate, unstoppable
singularity, and brain improvement. Although, the rate of progress will eventually lead to an
intelligence explosion, in which this intelligence will surpass human intelligence. This means that
the AI will start off learning like a child, the basic learning, read, math, science. This may seem very
basic, but once the program learns, it can move on, the program will learn much quicker and faster
than the average human can, they can adapt and comprehend things much quicker but once this
program learns so much, space exploration will be easier to do by giving suggestion on creating an
object or machine that can go into space and record data faster and with fewer errors. An article

Human Intelligence And The Biomedical Engineering Field
Vernor Vinge states, "I have argued above that we cannot prevent the Singularity, that its coming is
an inevitable consequence of the humans ' natural competitiveness and the possibilities inherent in
technology." Technological singularity is on the verge of having a massive breakthrough but are we
ready for what it brings? Raymond Kurzweil, an American author, believes that singularity will
emerge in 2045. Technological singularity is an event in which artificial intelligent machines go
beyond human intelligence and have the possibility to redesign themselves. Scientific development
and enhancement is in our daily lives. The concept of creating intelligent machines was almost
deemed impossible but in the last decade, researchers and scientists have shown beyond doubt that
creating intelligent machines is possible. These artificial intelligent machines produce potential
benefits and problems in the biomedical engineering field, a field where scientists should not
continue to work to on due to the dangers this field poses. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary
Shelley, an inspired man by the name of Victor Frankenstein believed that he could create new life.
Victor had excessive self pride and had an idea that he could create this perfect creation of a human
that would obey his every command. Once Frankenstein accomplishes his goal and creates new life,
his creation looks more like a colossal brute. "His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles
and arteries beneath...his

The Benefits Of Artificial Intelligence
What's the first thing you think of when someone says, "Artificial Intelligence"? The Terminator?
Perhaps the Matrix trilogy? Ever since the inception of the computer, science fiction has brought us
scenes of super–intelligent computers who want to take over all of mankind. In reality, Artificial
Intelligence is still in it's infancy, and has done much more good for humans than bad. Over time,
people's perspective of AI has changed drastically. We have gone from thinking that AI will take
over the world and obliterate mankind to thinking about all the benefits we can get from AI. The
change in people's perspective lately towards a more positive view of AI has boosted the production,
sales, and advancement of home automation and AI, making ... Show more content on

As a species, we gained the ability to learn from each other and specialize further in whatever sector
we were skilled in. Specialization allowed humanity to use their time to do things besides just
surviving. People began to live longer, healthier lives, and the average man's contribution to society
increased. Then, in the last 25 years, we have seen the expansion of the information age. Never
before has there been a source of literally all of human knowledge. There have been great libraries
with thousands of books, but nothing that can even remotely compare to the level of ease of access
that the internet provides. What does this tell us? This says that the rate of humanity's technological
advancement is rapidly increasing. A common model for how quickly computers are advancing is
given by Moore's Law. Moore's law is a prediction made in 1965 by Gordon Moore, co–founder of
Intel, based on his observation of computer progress, that says that the number of transistors that can
fit on a chip of a given area doubles roughly every 18 months (Investopedia). Transistor count
correlates directly to performance and efficiency. Our progress on the power of computer and
abilities of Artificial Intelligence in the past couple years is enticing, but if progress continues at the
same rate, the famed, or to some infamous, singularity is right around the corner.

Technology : The Problem Of Technology
The Technological Dilemma: Blindly embrace our new found technology and face the extermination
of the Human Social Structure. As sci–fi as this might seem, society's full acceptance of technology
and its integration into the most small of tasks has far exceeded any consideration of the harm that
technology presents. There is no area of our social existence in which Technology has not grasped
its cold metal tentacles about. As we attempt to argue against the seemingly blind acceptance of
technology in this paper, think about each point and how technology might be better monitored in
your environment. You'll soon realize that the involvement of technology in everyday tasks of the
human culture is not really as good a thing as our leaders, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When I was younger, I spent a lot of time actually going outside and playing outdoor games with my
friends, like freeze tag and hide and go seek. These days, I find myself picking up my phone, getting
on some form of social media, playing some stupid game, or catching up on gossip or some other
electronic form of entertainment. In this, I am not alone. According to IDC, a subsidiary of
Independent Data Group (IDG), internet users spend an average of 32.7 hours a week on line. (IDC
2008) Mind you that, those hours are pretty much online hours only and do not include offline
computer use or gaming time, doing things like homework or even drafting research papers like this
one. The all inclusive number is undoubtedly much higher. Companies lure prospect consumers to
online stores through bright colorful ads, promised discounts or even spam. It is now almost a
standard practice for colleges to offer an entire Bachelor's or also even a Master's Degree completely
on line. As consumers are drawn into the electronic community and away from the real world, we
slowly become dependant on our technology. It's no wonder why our society spends so much time
online. In today's economy, technology and the internet offer a new realm of growth and as such,
any business with any hopes of survivability and future plans of growth has to consider this area as a
required key component. You'd be stuck to assemble a list of notable companies that are not at

Pros And Cons Of Fear Of Super Intelligence
Should we be scared of super intelligence? Superintelligence is an artificial intelligence that has its
own brain and can develop its own thoughts which is likely to be smarter than human in every
aspects including ability to work and social skills. Superintelligence can come in many forms of
technology including computers and robots. In today's world, there are many evidences which prove
that superintelligence exists in our society. There is no doubt why people to be scared of this kind of
technology that can think and make decisions on its own. With its abilities to evolve and self–learn
the environment, there are unlimit consequences that can derive from these machines. Torres has put
this in a very precise and easy to understand words, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Arend Hintze, there are four different types of fear about artificial intelligence
including fear of unforeseen, fear of misuse, fear of wrong social priorities, and fear of the
nightmare scenario; the first fear being fear of unforeseen. Even if the designers of the
superintelligence think they can control what they have made, they might not understand what the
machine is thinking. One of the examples of the real world being AlphaGo, the computer program,
have beaten the professional go player from South korea, Lee Sedol, who is one of the best go
players in the world. Go is one of the most complex board games with the most simple rules where
there are two players in which each one of them takes turn placing one of the stones given (black or
white) onto the 19 by 19 grid board. The purpose of the game is to create as much territories
surrounded by their own stones as possible. Once a player's stones are circled by the other player's
stones, those stones need to be removed from the board. Since there is no artificial intelligence that
have ever beat the brain of human before, the Alpha go, which was developed by a team of twenty
people, is considered one of the superintelligence. These kinds of artificial intelligence system that
can defeat human's brain could turn into something scary in the future. Thus, humans should be
aware of superintelligence and be responsible of what they have

The Advancement Of Technology
Even if we don't agree that humans evolved from another, now–extinct species, we can agree that
the habits of humanity have definitely evolved. Along with these advancements in the habits and
daily lives of humanity, the technologies that were available to them advanced. There are several
ideologists that have discussed their research on the subject on how exactly they believe that
technology has advanced and evolved, whether they be hand in hand with the evolution of mankind,
advanced through the incremental steps of humanity's capability to harness energy, or possibly it's
the limitations that humanity faces that causes leaps in technology. These views were held by three
researchers of the advancement of technology: Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler. The
advancement of technology is dependent on the advancement of humanity. This is the view that
sociologist Gerhard Lenski held about how the evolution of technology can best be described and
observed. Lenski believed that, through levels, the capabilities of humanity is what was defined
through the amount that the humans of that time period understood about their surroundings. This is
observable, Lenski thought, by understanding the information that humanity had in different time
periods. In the beginning, humanity was nomadic. They only relied on creating tools that would help
them in hunting for meat and gathering plants and water. Next, humans realized that they could
create tools that could help them

Digital Information Technology : The Convergence Of...
The rise of digital technology convergence has made it achievable for technological organizations to
deliver video, audio, and text material by the same wired, wireless or fiber–optic connections. In the
past communications technology were separate and they provided specific services. Telephone and
computer services regulated on different platforms. With digital technology convergence, a new age
of multimedia has been introduced whereas images and data can be imported together to create a
single network that distributes more efficient and effective services to the consumer of information
content. Many of the content that is made today is in the fashion of a digital format, which offers
consumers a spectrum of options to choose from, for the content that wants to consume. Digital
technology convergence is allowing companies to blend and produce better and adequate services.
With digital technology convergence, communication has become more effortless and faster as
audiences can communicate directly with one another and with authors and publishers of mass
media content through email, online forums, and other interactive media. In conclusion, one can say
that digital technology convergence confits the combination of technologies of broadcasting,
telecommunications, computing, and printing. This approach has in various ways changed the very
attributes of mass communication and is rapidly changing media and journalism as several types of
mass media increasingly converge into a

regretfully informs you the person you love the most in your life is tragically going pass away due to
an incurable disease. Instantly, overwhelming feelings of despair and anger burn inside your chest
while graphic scenes of funeral details and goodbyes flood your mind eventually propelling you to
the rhetorical question everyone asks, "Is there anything we can do?" Then, The Doctor hands you a
pamphlet saying, "Have you ever heard of nanotechnology?" This Doctor is no "Mad Scientist"; in
fact, he is a highly trained professional that has saved several lives with his proposition. What would
you say? This small–scale scenario is the perplexing situation the human race will have to face in
the near future. Although some would consider the merger of technology and human biology a
completely "crack pot" idea, It is this hasty decision of judgment that explains our reaction to fear.
This fear resonates with most of the population globally since it is this very generation that has
witnessed the exponential growth of technology. Physically, psychologically and spiritually,
technological singularity threatens our future and shakes the foundation of morality. However, does
this change bring about negative or positive ramifications? With Technological Singularity's future
being so unpredictable, it would not be wise to ignore its possibilities especially since it was the

Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology
Mr. Ray Kurzweil, renowned inventor and author of The Singularity is Near, wrote in 2001 that
technological progress was increasing twofold every decade, "We won't experience 100 years of
progress in the 21st century–it will be more like 20,000 years of progress (at today's rate)" (qtd. in
Berman and Dorrier). We are only in the beginning of the 21st century and yet technology is
advancing faster than our ability to adapt! Technology has given society convenience and a higher
standard of living with the creation of the internet, smartphones, increasingly useful robots, and
artificial intelligence that learns (Rosoff). In the past couple of decades, continued integration of
technology in society has dramatically increased, resulting in significant problems with respect to
invasion of privacy and loss of basic freedoms. Technology has enabled governments and large
corporations to collect personal data. Facial recognition and surveillance technology are being used
for more than just "security." Although this rise in technology has provided society with many
different freedoms and benefits, technology will eventually lead to a society with little or no
freedom. Reporting your Data In the beginning, technological progress increased personal freedoms.
Technological advances in machinery freed workers from the burden of repetitive and boring tasks
that could be done more efficiently and reliably by a machine. The creation of search engines in the

The Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology In The World
While thinking about technology created by mankind, look at carbon dioxide gases produced by
burning fossil fuels, resulting in the greenhouse effect. The power of the atom for nuclear power
plants or the power of the atomic bomb. The use of Freon used in cooling systems for refrigeration
to preserve food has caused holes in the ozone. Technology used today has provided people the
advantage of having more leisurely time. Having gained time, we can choose to use it in productive
or self–destructive ways.
In today's world, while interacting with technology through social media, apps, e–mail, web chat
rooms, texting on cell phones, etc. these are used for communicating with people far away. It is the
main way people now like to communicate, this affects our social and emotional lives in many
ways. While this lacks the social interaction with people face to face. It is easier to tell someone no
when you don't have to look at them directly. It is even easier to say no by texting, then you don't
have to use your voice to communicate with them. The electronic media of broadcasters of both
television and radio have been the main sources of news for years. Now information is shared
quickly and more easily through the web. In today's technological world there are positive and
negative effects. Depending on how responsible we use the tools to communicate because we can
choose to use them in a productive or self–destructive way.

Course Review on The Era of Technological Evolution Essay
Every chapter in this course was very informative in its own way. Every era has experienced a
technological evolution, what matters the most is who adapts and get benefited from that
technology. One of the chapter which was very interesting was the The information systems and the
Design of work. Information technology in today's world has touched a new height whose motto is
to make things simpler. It was only with the help of technology we are able to shrink our desktop
computer so small that now we can make it fit easily in our pockets (Mobile Phones) (Arvind,
Richard & Ann, 2005). One of the concepts which were focused is the fusion of IT in today's life.

The second concept which is according to me is in the chapter Governance of information Systems
Organization. The main description about the IT governance process is that the decision making
rights in the company are being divided among the stakeholders who are in the enterprise and this
will also help to make and monitor the strategic and crucial decisions of the IT (Ryan, 2004). This
chapter also mentioned about the three models of governance which are centralized, decentralized
and federal. With the advancement of the information technology, the need of Information security
and governance has increased a lot. Every organization stores data which is an important asset to
them. This misuse of technology had led hackers to get into the company's system and steal or
provide harm to their data. So, in order to safe guard its data, a company has to follow a security
framework or practices. This is possible with the implementation of Information security strategies,
security policies, etc. I work in the security and compliance department at CMS at one of my work
is to do the gap analysis on the existing IT policies and update them in according to the NIST
(National Institute of Security and Technology) and COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and
Related Technology) standards. The IT security policies of CMS are being followed my many
agencies and as I work in the security department, I came to realize the importance of security as

The Possibilities of Technological Influences on Evolution
Introduction In humanity, as in all of life, the most successful traits in producing offspring will also
become the most prevalent. There is a belief that because we no longer fight for our survival, we
will no longer evolve. Evolution, however, has no goal or foresight. Though we have seized the need
to fight, and have triumphed to the top of the animal food chain, we continue to change and develop
by whatever is most successful for production. This could be beneficial, but could also have
detrimental effects. This paper will discuss these positive and negative possibilities, as well as how
technology could greatly alter our evolutionary path.
The Ideal of the Body
The initial future envisioned by the author was admittedly an ideal one. It's easy to imagine that
without limit to food and shelter that would otherwise inhibit our potential, we may become taller.
History shows that this has long been the trend and humanity could perhaps come to a 6'5" average,
or even higher, but at this point much taller mates would likely cease to be attractive as we would be
reaching our peak of structural stability. Humans much taller than this would be over encumbered by
their own density, and have inhibited walking capabilities (Fowler, 2006). Because of this, the
author predicted the possibility of an increasingly uniform height, as both very tall and shorter
members of society are selected against. Large amounts of body hair also tend to be chosen against
and humans would likely

virtually any geographical location. The internet has become one of the greatest tools for academic
research, and it has become invaluable in terms of communicating with nearly any person at any

I think along with many other distinguished technologists, that our future is optimistic, assuming we
have the power to overcome some obstacles with technology today and learn to engineer technology
and social behaviors around those particular hindrances. These issues are widely debated nowadays,
and will most likely will be debated more and more as we draw nearer to the era where artificial
intelligence is more capable and powerful than our own human intelligence. These issues bring up
inherently significant philosophical matters. This subject forces us to consider the foundation of
human intelligence, and how that foundation could be expanded upon and furthered with
technology. If technology surpasses innate human boundaries, do our mortal and corporeal
understandings of ethics and morality still stand if we are no longer the superior beings? It is
imperative that we learn to define and understand how intelligence ran by processors is different
than the intelligence that exists naturally within the human mind. How much will our biological
intelligence and environmental acumen transform as we approach the age of Singularity? Ray
Kurzweil adroitly asks, "...What is the Singularity? From my perspective, the Singularity is a future

Cultural Evolution vs. Technological Innovation
Historically, in the relationship between human culture and technology, cultural evolution has
lagged behind the pace of technological innovation. Technology is the human solution to fulfilling
human needs. As these needs change, new technologies will supplement the old ones; inevitably
changing the culture which created it, resulting in a co–evolution of technology and culture; and
impacting the future of their culture. The disparate rate of cultural vs. technological evolution has
consequences which cloud the prospect of the future of the human race unless we change the

today for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the creation of technologies which transcend the rudimentary is not possible without
social stratification. Social stratification is only possible after humans are not in immediate danger
of extinction Social stratification occurs when resources are limited, and as a result of as a result of
agricultural surplus/taxes (Erlich 265). The smaller the number of people in a culture devoted to
food production, the more people have the free time and in which to develop it. Technological
advances in turn encourage a classed society; "it is not by chance that today the global maps f
illiteracy and poverty so nearly coincide"(Erlich 268). So the more technologically advanced a
society is, the more stratified it is, but technology has other consequences also.
The domino effect of technology can be divided into two different categories, macroevolution and
microevolution. Erlich defines cultural macroevolution as, "the shaping of cultural trajectories by
environmental factors"( 260); and microevolution as, "change driven by the internal dynamics of
societies mixed with historical contingency and chance"(Erlich 269) Other examples of cultural
microevolution are "technological advances and new trade and political movements"(Erlich 269)
Technologies will inevitable change the cultures that create them, resulting in a co–evolution of
technology and culture; and impacting the future of their culture. The main idea is

Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman 's Thinking Fast And Slow Essay
In a paper published in 2011 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers
tested the common caricature of legal realism that "justice is what the judge ate for breakfast". They
studied eight parole judges in Israel over 50 days in a 10 month period, who spent their entire days
reviewing applications for parole. What they found was shocking, that the percentage of favorable
rulings dropped gradually to nearly zero within each decision session and returned abruptly to
around 65% after a break. This is illustrated in the diagram below, where dotted lines indicate food
breaks. This was after accounting for different variables and checking for alternative explanations.
This goes to show that the human mind is limited. Even moral decisions made by highly educated
individuals cannot escape the curse of mental fatigue as shown by the Israelian judge study. The
human rationality is also often plagued by hindsight bias, the anchoring effect, the bandwagon
effect, negativity bias, amidst a whole list of cognitive biases, best illustrated in Daniel Kahneman's
Thinking Fast & Slow.
If we could design a machine that can make decisions without the fallibility of human rationality,
would it then be a better idea to let the machines make decisions on our behalf, and save us from the
mistakes of our minds?
My answer is that we should not allow machines to make moral decisions on our behalf. Humans'
rationality might not be perfect, but we are not irrational and

Mark Collard's lecture was about risk, demography, and technological evolution in non–industrial
populations and he discussed the evolution of tool use among a variety of groups of hunter–
gatherers and food–producing communities. Collard states that the number and complexity of tools
varies greatly among populations and he focuses on why this variation exists. He starts off by
discussing and analyzing toolkit variation in both hunter–gatherer and farming societies and then
moves on to discuss overall technological variation in these societies and the possible explanation
for it. He lists four hypotheses that help explain this variation in toolkits among groups. They are the

He then moves on to food producers (farmers) instead of hunter–gatherers. He notes that population
size is a major driver in technological variation among food– producers and there is no evidence of
risk of resource failure in these larger groups. I think that the most interesting question posed by
Mark Collard is whether there is a difference between hunter–gatherers and food producers in
regards to toolkit variation. Not only is he interested in the difference between the two group types,
he uses multiple variables and hypotheses to measure and analyze these differences. If I was to do
this experiment, it would have never crossed my mind to compare groups of different composition
and social structure. I would have thought that humans are all capable of the same activities and that
global variation among toolkit complexity and richness was due mostly to environmental factors.
The most important thing I learned was how tool use evolved over time, leading to our species'
current use of advanced tools. Even though Collard did not speak about humans over a long period
of time or directly about human evolution, one can deduce that as our species evolved from foragers
to organized societies, our toolkit complexity and richness increased dramatically. Given the

New revolutionary technologies are emerging fast to address this issue of increased electrical power
generation and storage needs. An example is teams of MIT scientists that have created a synthetic,
self–assembling chloroplast that can be break and reassemble repeatedly, a self–restoring solar cell.
(Dillow, 2010). Another example is a company called Bloom Energy, which is producing tiny fuel
cell boxes called "Bloom Boxes." Two of these can power an average U.S. home. Each device is
about the size of a standard brick. Although they need to be surrounded by a larger unit that takes in
an energy source, they are still about the size of a refrigerator. This alternative is already being
tested by companies such as Google and eBay (Siegler, 2010). One striking feature of brain tissue is
its compactness. The memory capacity in this small volume is potentially immense. For computer
capacity, to begin to approach that of a human brain, as we get closer to the physical limits of silicon

manufacturers would possibly need to experiment with other production techniques and materials.

situations. We can make logical approximations and find "good enough" solutions. This type of
decision–making will undoubtedly be hard to match but there are already robots

Essay On Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence: Helpful or dangerous? Ever since 1956, when John McCarthy coined the
term "artificial intelligence" (AI) for computer systems that are able to perform tasks that normally
require human intelligence, AI has grown into something incredible. When one looks at what AI
really is, it can be quite alarming. The world today is dominated by technology; this means that it is
in houses, work places, schools and more. To many, this is a good thing that people should continue
to improve on. However, there are many risks in looking at what can happen with AI and people can
argue for both sides. That being said, in examining both the risks and rewards of artificial
intelligence, AI is dangerous and should not be taken any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once these weapons are hacked, nobody will be able to understand the extent to which AI will spin
out of control. All of this being said, the possibility of an uncontrollable warfare is absolutely
terrifying and cannot be overlooked. AI needs to be controlled and people need to be stopped from
developing it any further; the risk is much larger than the reward in situations such as these. To
continue, another very real risk is that the AI is programmed to do something helpful, but ends up
developing its own destructive way of doing it. In an article produced by the Future of Life Institute,
Benefits & Risks of Artificial Intelligence, this could happen this could happen "whenever we fail to
fully align the AI's goals with ours, which is strikingly difficult." There are many places this can
happen; one of those being on the battlefield where machines can turn into absolute killers who
choose their own targets. Another problem is that even if humans do program AI to do a specific job
and they do it correctly, AI will always find a way to grow. As stated in Amitai and Oren Etzioni's
article, Should Artificial Intelligence Be Regulated?, "computers will continue to advance and give
birth to rapid technological progress that will result in dramatic and unpredictable changes for
humanity" (Etzioni 32). There will soon come a time where AI will become too powerful for

The Technological Evolution Of The Media Industry
The technological evolution has played an inevitable and indispensable role in changing the facade
of the world. In particular, recent developments and innovations in the field of science and
technology have transformed the entire paradigm of media industry. It has been established that in
the contemporary or technology driven media environment, the traditional concept of ownership,
intellectual property, as well as copyright has become a controversial point (Sutherland–Smith,

High–tech media tools and platforms have superficially changed the way in which people used to
consume media. It has been established that the recent technological advancements have played a
significant role in building entirely new and unique media environment. In accordance with the
views of Bird (2011), the "new current contemporary age of information and technology" has
substantially enabled the individuals to actively contribute and consume the media sources. It is
significant to bring into the notice that such practices were impractical to be attained by the
consumers, in the past years. Before the emergence of internet as well as web 2.0 technologies, the
communication, distribution, and creation of ideas was generally aided by the "corporate
middlemen". It is due to the fact that it was quite difficult and impossible (to some extent) for the
average person to coordinate in a free and independent manner. However, the evolution and
development of contemporary and higher innovative web applications had changed the entire facade
of the media consumption trends. In this account, it has been assessed that the web based
applications and state–of–the–art technologies have completely democratised this process (Muir,
2013). It is because; by using these technologies, the users can easily participate in the consumption
of media through

When I first enrolled in Technology and Society, I honestly did not know what to think of this class.
I thought I was going to feel awkward because maybe it was going be a class full of nerds, which
there wasn't, and all we would talk about was different kinds of inventions and how they effected
society. After completing the course it was pretty much true, the class discussed many inventions
and how they have effected society throughout the years, even how society has effected technology.
One of the main topics that was covered in the class was how many different definitions there was
of what was considered technology. The biggest lesson that was taught was how technology and
society have been linked so closely throughout history, and now ... Show more content on

Everyone has seen that kid with music blasting out of his headphones, or the girl rapidly texting on
her phone. The youth of today are constantly drawn in technological advancements that promote
nonstop communication and instant satisfaction, whether through cell phones, video games, laptops,
or iPod/MP3 players. Before the invention of these devices, family members would sit together
around the table and play games together. However, since the invention of video games, those kinds
of entertainment have changed to games played individually, and the impact of such games on
family relations is apparent. Nowadays instead of watching TV together or eating a family meal,
everyone in the family is in a separate room, either playing video games, watching football, on their
computers or on their phones. Though, in some cases, technology helps parents to communicate
with their children and know their location, it is not always enough for children's safety just to stay
connected with the family. People are so fascinated by their smart phones or laptops that they are
blind to others around them. Consequently, spending less time with family and more time with
different gadgets can cause the loss of tight contacts with close relations.
But are these technological advancements a good thing? I believe that the growth of technology has
negatively influenced the social interactions of today's youth because it isolates people from reality,

The Pros And Cons Of Belize
There are about 1 billion instant messenger accounts that are active around the world and there are
currently 17 billion devices that are connected or related to the internet and the use of the internet
(Computer Freaks, 2014). We are living in the era of technology, the period noted by abundant
publication, consumption, and manipulation of information especially by computers and computer
network. The relationship between society and technology is analogous to the relationship between
our eyes and the brain. But is the technological era helping or harming our society? In this essay I
will be discussing the pros and cons of the technological era, as well to what extent Belize is coping
with it.

Therefore, to what extent is Belize coping with the technological era? On December 2014, the Prime
Minister Honorable Dean Barrow said that the year 2015 would be the year of technology (Channel
5 Belize, 2014). As a result, on the month of February 2015, the Government issued 9,000 tablets to
tertiary level students and as well provided free access to Wi–Fi in each park of the country's
municipalities. In addition, the Prime Minister also said that with the help of Koreans they are
making plans towards building a Technology University in Belmopan. It all sounds great, but there
are still plenty of drawbacks. Belize is second to lowest in Broadband Internet speed in the
Caribbean (Channel 5 Belize, 2015). As reported by a survey made by the International issues from
a Caribbean Perspective (ICT PLUS), Belize heads the list with the highest prices but lowest
download speed. Moreover, as reported in Forbes website when it comes to technology, Belize is
"currently dicey". The article goes on stating that "Belize has DSL but it isn't always easy to get,
service isn't that reliable and data speeds are relatively slow particularly against European standards"
(Enderle, 2012). Even though the Government gave tablets to students, there is a great need of
improvement in our Education system with better access of internet, printing services and
educational tools. Our Health sector also needs to adapt the new equipments that are available.
Therefore, there is still a lot of room of improvement for Belize while coping in this technological

Draw from the sociotechnical debate to discuss the emergence of two technologies – one developed
before 1920 and one after. What are the implications of your analysis for our understanding of
technological innovations? You are advised to choose technologies we have been discussing in the
lectures and seminars.
There is no denying that technology has been an ever–apparent part of the human society. Today,
technology is used in a variety of ways and is essential for the survival of the human society. While
technology is wholly accepted as an essential part of life, there has always been a debate whether it

It views technology as the utilization of existing scientific knowledge in society. For example, the
creation of a laptop, which stemmed from the creation of the computer or the steam boat which
came about due to the application of 2 previous inventions, the boat and the steam engine
(Petrakaki, 2014). Hence it argues that these creations cannot be considered new as it draws upon
something that already exists and not "disembodied inspiration" as mentioned by MacKenzie and
Wajcman (1985). In Social Determinism, technology does have a limited amount of power as it may
open up more opportunities, however the choice to exploit it remains in society's power (White,
1978). Technology is not independent and requires an existing infrastructure to be able to run, like a
mobile phone, which requires connections with network towers before it can be used to make phone
calls.
Social Determinism also talks about how the shaping of technology can be due to economic,
political, cultural reasons and by social norms. In terms of economic reasons, the progress in
technology has often been linked with improving profit or revenue margins as well as reducing costs
(Petrakaki, 2014). For example, the assembly line, which came about in the 1800s, was made to
improve the efficiency and reduce costs for companies, as it required lesser manpower (Walker,
1952). Culture does shape technology, as the same form of technology may possess different
features in different countries. For example, in

The Negative Effects Of Modern Technology
Technology is the distribution of intelligence that deals with the arrangement and use of industrial
means and their relationship with life, society, and the environment. Since the establishment of
modern technology has been entangled with it. On average a smartphone user will check their
phones 150 times a day–––––. And that is just how the people cooperate with their Smartphone.
Technology has a large negative effect on society. Neurologists worry that if unless we wake up to
the catastrophe that the appliance–filled, stimulant enhanced 21st century is doing to the human
brain. Humans could be sleepwalking towards a forthcoming in which most of the living things
eventually become artificial. Electricity is the advanced technology that separates the line between
living and nonliving machines, and between our bodies and the outside world. There are several
reasons how today's machinery could be helping the civilization, however it is needed to be
cautioned that there are more considerable cons that come along with technology as well. For
instance, children are becoming too reliable on technology that they have an absence of any physical
abilities thus becoming lazy and overweight. Or having teenagers not have skills in writing that are
mandatory for everyone to effectively communicate with each other exclusively in a professional
environment. Today's civilization lives in a world of artificial intelligence that is blinded from all of
the cons. Modernized technology has played a very important role in affecting both types of
relationships. Although modern technology helps people to connect with the past, present, and the
future, it has subsidized to the eradication of relationships. Examples of modern technology that has
impacted relationships include smart phones, laptops, and computers. Furthermore, the internet is
the most dedicated modern technology used in the form of emails, Facebook, MySpace, and
Snapchat. Modern technology has not accomplished to entitle people to fully express their feelings.
This is because without face to face communication, emotions could be misunderstood which often
results in conflicts. Technology has been a cause to the loss of many intimate bonds that are created

This is the question many expert media theorists and journalists ask, and a clear answer is not

optimistic, assuming we gain the power to overcome upcoming obstacles with technology in the
present. We will have to learn to engineer technology based on human interaction and be able to
regulate social behaviors around these particular hindrances. These issues at hand, are widely
debated nowadays, and will most likely will be debated more and more as we draw nearer to the era
of extraordinarily capable and powerful artificial intelligence. This subject matter brings up many
inherently significant philosophical matters. This topic forces us to consider the foundation of
human intelligence, and how that groundwork could be expanded upon and implemented within our
future's technology. If we surpasses innate human boundaries with technology, do our mortal
understandings of ethics and morality still stand, when we are no longer the superior creatures? It is

1. How did technological developments affect the evolution of jazz? Jazz as we know it has existed
for over a century, with its roots stemming from the low–tech history of the slave fields, and
European classical music. Throughout the 20th century, however, new advancements in technology
would change music forever, and Jazz is no exception. As technology advanced, so too did complex
compositions of the artists, and even our definition of music as a whole. The first innovation which
revolutionized Jazz was Thomas Edison's phonograph, the first device capable of recording and
reproducing sound. As musicians previously learned through reading sheet music, it was impossible
to discern the variations in tone and improvisation from a musical work. The phonograph was
revolutionary for its time, as musicians could now learn through listening to details within the
music. The device also helped transform Jazz to a national genre, as the advent of recording allowed
one musician to listen to the works of another from afar.
Early recording companies such as Columbia and the Victor Talking Machine Company sprang up
as a result of this invention. Though the later disc record phonographs (also known as
"gramophones") won the format war against Edison's cylindrical phonograph, Edison himself began
the chain of innovation. If not for the phonograph, the Original Dixieland Jazz Band would not have
recorded their first composition. Consequently, no later Jazz recordings would be

How Has Human Technology Evolved Over Time?
Long before there was the genre of science fiction, humanity has questioned the future what it
brings. How it will be different tomorrow from how it is today and how to prevent or make it
possible. Such wonderings bring about inventions such as an ancient earthquake detector in the form
of a vase with dragons on the outside that would drop a ball into a bowl in the direction of the
quake. Or the invention of many weapons in the time of war to gain an advantage over the enemy. If
we look at how both have changed and evolved over time, I pose a question that I am trying to find
sources to answer for an average adult audience. How has human technology evolved over time, and
what does this mean for how it can and will change in the future?
I would like to start with the source I thought was the worst for such a paper, 23 Incredible New

Argumentative Essay On Technology
In a world that is so reliant on technology, it is hard – if not impossible – to imagine a time without
it. Technology and artificial intelligence (or AI) have not only become a tool, but an extension of
ourselves. Our own present–day evolution may be difficult to witness or track, but we can measure
our growth through our advances in technology. Like everything humans might encounter or create,
technology has the potential to harm us – the same tools we utilize for the greater good of our
society can be used by those who wish to harm us and have access to the same information.
However, despite this I believe that the definitive and potential good that technology presents far
outweighs the definitive and potential negatives, and I believe that technology is beyond beneficial
to us. It's easy to be fearful of technological advancements and artificial intelligence when we do not
understand how they work. An important thing to keep in mind is that, even though we may not be
aware of it, we are constantly helping artificial intelligence improve. In the beginning, many
believed that artificial intelligence could be created simply by providing instructions to a machine,
then allowing it to discern the information within bounds of the direction. This provided far too
much room for error, because the machine would be incapable of considering what went against the
"typical" instruction, so the machine would automatically disregard it. A wonderful example of this
would be regarding

Argumentative Essay On Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is a topic within the public media that has existed for decades, but is now a
concern due to the reality of human advancement and innovation in the field of science and
technology. Many people believe that computers will become self–aware or sentient and view
humanity as a disposable resource and gain supremacy. Reasoning that research on the technology
should halt and not become more advance. Whereas others believe they will help catapult research
and the economy forward, supporting the operations and innovations the technology offers. The
complicated and divided solutions to the debate aren't obvious, but there are more benefits to
improving artificial intelligence than there is stopping it. Therefore, the negative effects people
believe will occur can be resolved. There are different types of artificial intelligence that many
institutes and companies believe in. However, they all share the same belief of a self–aware,
conscious, human–like, computer system, the type of AI people fear. Disregarding that an AI is a
computer much like a phone or laptop, one must consider that if something is sentient like a person
or animal, should they be treated like one? And if not, is it discrimination or racism when it is
treated like an item? Slavery treated people based on race or social status differently, the bottom
being slaves. Some might argue that machines don't have a "soul" or aren't alive. There are hundreds
of questions and ideas that have no clear

technology has rapidly progressed, allowing creative potential for filmmakers. Films are often due

The stop motion animation sequences were filmed separately from the live action scenes with the
actors. These two parts were then combined to create the illusion that the ape was towering over the
actors. In the 2005 remake of the film, director Peter Jackson relied on Computer–Generated
Imagery (CGI) to animate Kong. This use of CGI gave the director greater artistic control of the
narrative. Many of the sets were computer–generated, as well as Kong himself. To combine both the
actors and the computer–generated images together, chroma keying was used. In the scene where
Ann Darrow is placed in the hand of Kong, the actress was filmed against a green screen, and held
by a large green hand. When this scene was merged with the digital Kong, a composite image shows
Kong holding her. Since chroma–keying technology did not exist in the 1930's, a full–sized, fur
covered hand had to be constructed to create the effect of Kong holding the actor. The difference
between the visual effects in both versions is significant, making is apparent that the remake has
displayed great technological advancement. These advancements also make the film more
believable, and emphasise the story.
Another aspect of the film that had a significant impact was colour. In the original version of King
Kong, the film was shot in black and white. Sometimes there can be implications with interpreting

A Revolution Is A Dramatic And Wide Reaching Change
A revolution is a dramatic and wide–reaching change in the way something works or is organized or
in people 's ideas about it. Mankind has experienced three life changing revolutions that Yuval Noah
Harari discusses in his book Sapiens. There has been a cognitive, an agricultural, and a scientific
revolution, and now Nick Bostrom explores in his book, Superintelligence, how life would advance
with a fourth one, a transhuman revolution. Finding the right path to artificial intelligence (AI) will
lead to advancements for humankind that in relation to the past three revolutions could result in the
start of a new journey, or in the end of the life humans now know.
In relation to the previous three revolutions, the transhuman revolution will share many similarities
in the patterns that occurred in each revolution. The main foundation of any revolution is
cooperation, curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be true for the agricultural,
cognitive, and scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as
well. Along with this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence.
Bostrom proves this when he states, "Humanity has gained enormously in collective intelligence
over the course of history and prehistory. The gains come from many sources, including innovations
in communications technology, such as writing and printing, and above all the introduction of
language itself..." (Kindle Locations 1443–1446).

Capitalism In Brave New World
Evolution is a natural process of the world. Dinosaurs are no longer in existence, and the giant
pandas are not too far behind. Yet when it comes to humans, people have trouble acknowledging
that the human race, too, will have to come to an end; or as Kurzweil predicts, will have to adapt
into something better in terms of evolution. However, the current state of society, in which everyone
is strung on a hierarchy until the day he dies, the singularity will produce a less that favorable result.
Though "inevitable and imminent," the singularity will make people increasingly unhappy by
enhancing the socially constructed hierarchies that separate us from free will (Singularity).
Capitalism prevents us from valuing ourselves, which is why we aren't happy. In Brave New World,
it is obvious that capitalistic ideals drive the society, in which their sole purpose is to consume, as
they believe that "[one] can't consume much if [one sits] still and [reads] books" (Brave New World
50). The desire to produce, consume, and earn money at the end of it all makes us stray from the
activities that bring people the most pleasure. We are so caught up in making money and getting
ourselves higher on the never–ending hierarchy that the idea of leisure and happiness is forgotten.
Though the technology that supports capitalism is thought to be highly developed and is a result of
our most intellectual advances, the reality is that we are becoming reliant on technology in order to
make us happy;

Technological Changes And Evolution

  • 1. Technological Changes and Evolution Over the course of a couple of years we've seen technology change and evolve as scientists and developers continue to develop mobile devices that will intentional become daily necessities for the human kind. Who would have thought that mobile devices and handheld devices would become so popular that you can find a young toddler using one to learn about different subjects and activities? Cellular devices, mobile devices, and computers have evolved so fast that they're being used not only to search or make your standard call or internet browse but also to pay bills, video chat, and pretty much anything you can think of. Companies are now combining their profiles with developers to come up with applications for phones and different handheld devices in order to better interact with their customers. With the new wave of technology breaking so many barrels, that scientist in the past would have never thought of years ago during the era of the first light bulb, one tends to wonder have we as a race become too dependent on technology? What about the reliability of these applications we have come so use to using on a daily bases? How do these applications measure up to the basic knowledge and fundamentals that we once only knew and used? In this essay we go into depth on how technology specific mobile device applications have helped us as a race and what possible risk may come with using these applications. During the 1990s individuals had embraced the first major phase of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Impact Of Technology On Our Lives Technology has innovated our lives drastically in many ways dating back to several years ago, from the time of the invention of the very first microscope to the creation of the very first cellphone. The evolution of technology has not only impacted the way we as a society function in our daily lives but as well as how we manage to pursue a better economic living. The human population is and has been facing a crisis that is often ignored by the excitement of the use of modern technology. The conversation of technology replacing the use of mankind jobs is a topic that has built a sudden interest and concern in many talks surrounding economists, politicians, workers and the unemployed. So why does the unemployment rate increase when the production of new technology also increases? Technology was first created to replace the use of mankind application work on certain tasks. If this was not the case then tractors, calculators, vehicles, and computers would not have been invented. It is very well obvious that the fear of the past has long arrived, many argued and are still arguing that the advancement of technology will not only change the way we see and value our daily tasks but as well as the way we create a revolution of unemployment crisis. In this paper I will discuss the evolution of technology, the use of modern technology and how it has affected our lives, the advantages and disadvantages of modern technology and finally last but not least what economist have to say ... • 5. Suffering The Pros And Cons Of Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a program that can perform tasks that a human can do, like speech recognition, visual perception, language translation. AIs have been a very popular topic in scientists and engineers. An example of artificial intelligence is Watson, this program can answer questions, Watson was featured in a jeopardy game along with two former winners, Watson did, in fact, win first place with one million dollars, but Watson was only given three clues to solve the question, the program was not connected to the internet. The program quickly outsmarted his opponents, but had trouble in other categories, meaning that the program beat human intelligence on the post topic. Artificial Intelligence will become a superintelligence because of the progress rate, unstoppable singularity, and brain improvement. Although, the rate of progress will eventually lead to an intelligence explosion, in which this intelligence will surpass human intelligence. This means that the AI will start off learning like a child, the basic learning, read, math, science. This may seem very basic, but once the program learns, it can move on, the program will learn much quicker and faster than the average human can, they can adapt and comprehend things much quicker but once this program learns so much, space exploration will be easier to do by giving suggestion on creating an object or machine that can go into space and record data faster and with fewer errors. • 7. Human Intelligence And The Biomedical Engineering Field Vernor Vinge states, "I have argued above that we cannot prevent the Singularity, that its coming is an inevitable consequence of the humans ' natural competitiveness and the possibilities inherent in technology." Technological singularity is on the verge of having a massive breakthrough but are we ready for what it brings? Raymond Kurzweil, an American author, believes that singularity will emerge in 2045. Technological singularity is an event in which artificial intelligent machines go beyond human intelligence and have the possibility to redesign themselves. Scientific development and enhancement is in our daily lives. The concept of creating intelligent machines was almost deemed impossible but in the last decade, researchers and scientists have shown beyond doubt that creating intelligent machines is possible. These artificial intelligent machines produce potential benefits and problems in the biomedical engineering field, a field where scientists should not continue to work to on due to the dangers this field poses. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, an inspired man by the name of Victor Frankenstein believed that he could create new life. Victor had excessive self pride and had an idea that he could create this perfect creation of a human that would obey his every command. Once Frankenstein accomplishes his goal and creates new life, his creation looks more like a colossal brute. "His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath...his ... • 9. The Benefits Of Artificial Intelligence What's the first thing you think of when someone says, "Artificial Intelligence"? The Terminator? Perhaps the Matrix trilogy? Ever since the inception of the computer, science fiction has brought us scenes of super–intelligent computers who want to take over all of mankind. In reality, Artificial Intelligence is still in it's infancy, and has done much more good for humans than bad. Over time, people's perspective of AI has changed drastically. We have gone from thinking that AI will take over the world and obliterate mankind to thinking about all the benefits we can get from AI. The change in people's perspective lately towards a more positive view of AI has boosted the production, sales, and advancement of home automation and AI, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a species, we gained the ability to learn from each other and specialize further in whatever sector we were skilled in. Specialization allowed humanity to use their time to do things besides just surviving. People began to live longer, healthier lives, and the average man's contribution to society increased. Then, in the last 25 years, we have seen the expansion of the information age. Never before has there been a source of literally all of human knowledge. There have been great libraries with thousands of books, but nothing that can even remotely compare to the level of ease of access that the internet provides. What does this tell us? This says that the rate of humanity's technological advancement is rapidly increasing. A common model for how quickly computers are advancing is given by Moore's Law. Moore's law is a prediction made in 1965 by Gordon Moore, co–founder of Intel, based on his observation of computer progress, that says that the number of transistors that can fit on a chip of a given area doubles roughly every 18 months (Investopedia). Transistor count correlates directly to performance and efficiency. Our progress on the power of computer and abilities of Artificial Intelligence in the past couple years is enticing, but if progress continues at the same rate, the famed, or to some infamous, singularity is right around the corner. ... • 11. Technology : The Problem Of Technology The Technological Dilemma: Blindly embrace our new found technology and face the extermination of the Human Social Structure. As sci–fi as this might seem, society's full acceptance of technology and its integration into the most small of tasks has far exceeded any consideration of the harm that technology presents. There is no area of our social existence in which Technology has not grasped its cold metal tentacles about. As we attempt to argue against the seemingly blind acceptance of technology in this paper, think about each point and how technology might be better monitored in your environment. You'll soon realize that the involvement of technology in everyday tasks of the human culture is not really as good a thing as our leaders, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I was younger, I spent a lot of time actually going outside and playing outdoor games with my friends, like freeze tag and hide and go seek. These days, I find myself picking up my phone, getting on some form of social media, playing some stupid game, or catching up on gossip or some other electronic form of entertainment. In this, I am not alone. According to IDC, a subsidiary of Independent Data Group (IDG), internet users spend an average of 32.7 hours a week on line. (IDC 2008) Mind you that, those hours are pretty much online hours only and do not include offline computer use or gaming time, doing things like homework or even drafting research papers like this one. The all inclusive number is undoubtedly much higher. Companies lure prospect consumers to online stores through bright colorful ads, promised discounts or even spam. It is now almost a standard practice for colleges to offer an entire Bachelor's or also even a Master's Degree completely on line. As consumers are drawn into the electronic community and away from the real world, we slowly become dependant on our technology. It's no wonder why our society spends so much time online. In today's economy, technology and the internet offer a new realm of growth and as such, any business with any hopes of survivability and future plans of growth has to consider this area as a required key component. • 13. Pros And Cons Of Fear Of Super Intelligence Should we be scared of super intelligence? Superintelligence is an artificial intelligence that has its own brain and can develop its own thoughts which is likely to be smarter than human in every aspects including ability to work and social skills. Superintelligence can come in many forms of technology including computers and robots. In today's world, there are many evidences which prove that superintelligence exists in our society. There is no doubt why people to be scared of this kind of technology that can think and make decisions on its own. With its abilities to evolve and self–learn the environment, there are unlimit consequences that can derive from these machines. Torres has put this in a very precise and easy to understand words, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Arend Hintze, there are four different types of fear about artificial intelligence including fear of unforeseen, fear of misuse, fear of wrong social priorities, and fear of the nightmare scenario; the first fear being fear of unforeseen. Even if the designers of the superintelligence think they can control what they have made, they might not understand what the machine is thinking. One of the examples of the real world being AlphaGo, the computer program, have beaten the professional go player from South korea, Lee Sedol, who is one of the best go players in the world. Go is one of the most complex board games with the most simple rules where there are two players in which each one of them takes turn placing one of the stones given (black or white) onto the 19 by 19 grid board. The purpose of the game is to create as much territories surrounded by their own stones as possible. Once a player's stones are circled by the other player's stones, those stones need to be removed from the board. Since there is no artificial intelligence that have ever beat the brain of human before, the Alpha go, which was developed by a team of twenty people, is considered one of the superintelligence. These kinds of artificial intelligence system that can defeat human's brain could turn into something scary in the future. • 15. The Advancement Of Technology Even if we don't agree that humans evolved from another, now–extinct species, we can agree that the habits of humanity have definitely evolved. Along with these advancements in the habits and daily lives of humanity, the technologies that were available to them advanced. There are several ideologists that have discussed their research on the subject on how exactly they believe that technology has advanced and evolved, whether they be hand in hand with the evolution of mankind, advanced through the incremental steps of humanity's capability to harness energy, or possibly it's the limitations that humanity faces that causes leaps in technology. These views were held by three researchers of the advancement of technology: Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler. The advancement of technology is dependent on the advancement of humanity. This is the view that sociologist Gerhard Lenski held about how the evolution of technology can best be described and observed. Lenski believed that, through levels, the capabilities of humanity is what was defined through the amount that the humans of that time period understood about their surroundings. This is observable, Lenski thought, by understanding the information that humanity had in different time periods. In the beginning, humanity was nomadic. They only relied on creating tools that would help them in hunting for meat and gathering plants and water. Next, humans realized that they could create tools that could help them ... • 17. Digital Information Technology : The Convergence Of... The rise of digital technology convergence has made it achievable for technological organizations to deliver video, audio, and text material by the same wired, wireless or fiber–optic connections. In the past communications technology were separate and they provided specific services. Telephone and computer services regulated on different platforms. With digital technology convergence, a new age of multimedia has been introduced whereas images and data can be imported together to create a single network that distributes more efficient and effective services to the consumer of information content. Many of the content that is made today is in the fashion of a digital format, which offers consumers a spectrum of options to choose from, for the content that wants to consume. Digital technology convergence is allowing companies to blend and produce better and adequate services. With digital technology convergence, communication has become more effortless and faster as audiences can communicate directly with one another and with authors and publishers of mass media content through email, online forums, and other interactive media. In conclusion, one can say that digital technology convergence confits the combination of technologies of broadcasting, telecommunications, computing, and printing. This approach has in various ways changed the very attributes of mass communication and is rapidly changing media and journalism as several types of mass media increasingly converge into a ... One day your Doctor regretfully informs you the person you love the most in your life is tragically going pass away due to an incurable disease. Instantly, overwhelming feelings of despair and anger burn inside your chest while graphic scenes of funeral details and goodbyes flood your mind eventually propelling you to the rhetorical question everyone asks, "Is there anything we can do?" Then, The Doctor hands you a pamphlet saying, "Have you ever heard of nanotechnology?" This Doctor is no "Mad Scientist"; in fact, he is a highly trained professional that has saved several lives with his proposition. What would you say? This small–scale scenario is the perplexing situation the human race will have to face in the near future. Although some would consider the merger of technology and human biology a completely "crack pot" idea, It is this hasty decision of judgment that explains our reaction to fear. This fear resonates with most of the population globally since it is this very generation that has witnessed the exponential growth of technology. Physically, psychologically and spiritually, technological singularity threatens our future and shakes the foundation of morality. However, does this change bring about negative or positive ramifications? With Technological Singularity's future being so unpredictable, it would not be wise to ignore its possibilities especially since it was the human race, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology Mr. Ray Kurzweil, renowned inventor and author of The Singularity is Near, wrote in 2001 that technological progress was increasing twofold every decade, "We won't experience 100 years of progress in the 21st century–it will be more like 20,000 years of progress (at today's rate)" (qtd. in Berman and Dorrier). We are only in the beginning of the 21st century and yet technology is advancing faster than our ability to adapt! Technology has given society convenience and a higher standard of living with the creation of the internet, smartphones, increasingly useful robots, and artificial intelligence that learns (Rosoff). In the past couple of decades, continued integration of technology in society has dramatically increased, resulting in significant problems with respect to invasion of privacy and loss of basic freedoms. Technology has enabled governments and large corporations to collect personal data. Facial recognition and surveillance technology are being used for more than just "security." Although this rise in technology has provided society with many different freedoms and benefits, technology will eventually lead to a society with little or no freedom. Reporting your Data In the beginning, technological progress increased personal freedoms. Technological advances in machinery freed workers from the burden of repetitive and boring tasks that could be done more efficiently and reliably by a machine. • 23. The Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology In The World While thinking about technology created by mankind, look at carbon dioxide gases produced by burning fossil fuels, resulting in the greenhouse effect. The power of the atom for nuclear power plants or the power of the atomic bomb. The use of Freon used in cooling systems for refrigeration to preserve food has caused holes in the ozone. Technology used today has provided people the advantage of having more leisurely time. Having gained time, we can choose to use it in productive or self–destructive ways. In today's world, while interacting with technology through social media, apps, e–mail, web chat rooms, texting on cell phones, etc. these are used for communicating with people far away. It is the main way people now like to communicate, this affects our social and emotional lives in many ways. While this lacks the social interaction with people face to face. It is easier to tell someone no when you don't have to look at them directly. It is even easier to say no by texting, then you don't have to use your voice to communicate with them. The electronic media of broadcasters of both television and radio have been the main sources of news for years. Now information is shared quickly and more easily through the web. In today's technological world there are positive and negative effects. Depending on how responsible we use the tools to communicate because we can choose to use them in a productive or self–destructive way. People are spending too much time looking at a screen and ... • 25. Course Review on The Era of Technological Evolution Essay Every chapter in this course was very informative in its own way. Every era has experienced a technological evolution, what matters the most is who adapts and get benefited from that technology. One of the chapter which was very interesting was the The information systems and the Design of work. Information technology in today's world has touched a new height whose motto is to make things simpler. It was only with the help of technology we are able to shrink our desktop computer so small that now we can make it fit easily in our pockets (Mobile Phones) (Arvind, Richard & Ann, 2005). One of the concepts which were focused is the fusion of IT in today's life. The IT effect has affected almost every field and this statement is supported by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second concept which is according to me is in the chapter Governance of information Systems Organization. The main description about the IT governance process is that the decision making rights in the company are being divided among the stakeholders who are in the enterprise and this will also help to make and monitor the strategic and crucial decisions of the IT (Ryan, 2004). This chapter also mentioned about the three models of governance which are centralized, decentralized and federal. With the advancement of the information technology, the need of Information security and governance has increased a lot. Every organization stores data which is an important asset to them. This misuse of technology had led hackers to get into the company's system and steal or provide harm to their data. So, in order to safe guard its data, a company has to follow a security framework or practices. This is possible with the implementation of Information security strategies, security policies, etc. I work in the security and compliance department at CMS at one of my work is to do the gap analysis on the existing IT policies and update them in according to the NIST (National Institute of Security and Technology) and COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology) standards. The IT security policies of CMS are being followed my many agencies and as I work in the security department, I came to realize the importance of security as even a single loop hole is ... • 27. The Possibilities of Technological Influences on Evolution Introduction In humanity, as in all of life, the most successful traits in producing offspring will also become the most prevalent. There is a belief that because we no longer fight for our survival, we will no longer evolve. Evolution, however, has no goal or foresight. Though we have seized the need to fight, and have triumphed to the top of the animal food chain, we continue to change and develop by whatever is most successful for production. This could be beneficial, but could also have detrimental effects. This paper will discuss these positive and negative possibilities, as well as how technology could greatly alter our evolutionary path. The Ideal of the Body The initial future envisioned by the author was admittedly an ideal one. It's easy to imagine that without limit to food and shelter that would otherwise inhibit our potential, we may become taller. History shows that this has long been the trend and humanity could perhaps come to a 6'5" average, or even higher, but at this point much taller mates would likely cease to be attractive as we would be reaching our peak of structural stability. Humans much taller than this would be over encumbered by their own density, and have inhibited walking capabilities (Fowler, 2006). Because of this, the author predicted the possibility of an increasingly uniform height, as both very tall and shorter members of society are selected against. Large amounts of body hair also tend to be chosen against and humans would likely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Cultural Evolution vs. Technological Innovation Essay... Cultural Evolution vs. Technological Innovation Historically, in the relationship between human culture and technology, cultural evolution has lagged behind the pace of technological innovation. Technology is the human solution to fulfilling human needs. As these needs change, new technologies will supplement the old ones; inevitably changing the culture which created it, resulting in a co–evolution of technology and culture; and impacting the future of their culture. The disparate rate of cultural vs. technological evolution has consequences which cloud the prospect of the future of the human race unless we change the historical blueprint and try to thwart our disposition towards ignoring the responsibility we have today for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the creation of technologies which transcend the rudimentary is not possible without social stratification. Social stratification is only possible after humans are not in immediate danger of extinction Social stratification occurs when resources are limited, and as a result of as a result of agricultural surplus/taxes (Erlich 265). The smaller the number of people in a culture devoted to food production, the more people have the free time and in which to develop it. Technological advances in turn encourage a classed society; "it is not by chance that today the global maps f illiteracy and poverty so nearly coincide"(Erlich 268). So the more technologically advanced a society is, the more stratified it is, but technology has other consequences also. The domino effect of technology can be divided into two different categories, macroevolution and microevolution. Erlich defines cultural macroevolution as, "the shaping of cultural trajectories by environmental factors"( 260); and microevolution as, "change driven by the internal dynamics of societies mixed with historical contingency and chance"(Erlich 269) Other examples of cultural microevolution are "technological advances and new trade and political movements"(Erlich 269) Technologies will inevitable change the cultures that create them, resulting in a co–evolution of technology and culture; and impacting the future of their culture. • 33. Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman 's Thinking Fast And Slow Essay In a paper published in 2011 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers tested the common caricature of legal realism that "justice is what the judge ate for breakfast". They studied eight parole judges in Israel over 50 days in a 10 month period, who spent their entire days reviewing applications for parole. What they found was shocking, that the percentage of favorable rulings dropped gradually to nearly zero within each decision session and returned abruptly to around 65% after a break. This is illustrated in the diagram below, where dotted lines indicate food breaks. This was after accounting for different variables and checking for alternative explanations. This goes to show that the human mind is limited. Even moral decisions made by highly educated individuals cannot escape the curse of mental fatigue as shown by the Israelian judge study. The human rationality is also often plagued by hindsight bias, the anchoring effect, the bandwagon effect, negativity bias, amidst a whole list of cognitive biases, best illustrated in Daniel Kahneman's Thinking Fast & Slow. If we could design a machine that can make decisions without the fallibility of human rationality, would it then be a better idea to let the machines make decisions on our behalf, and save us from the mistakes of our minds? My answer is that we should not allow machines to make moral decisions on our behalf. Humans' rationality might not be perfect, but we are not irrational and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mark Collard's lecture was about risk, demography, and technological evolution in non–industrial populations and he discussed the evolution of tool use among a variety of groups of hunter– gatherers and food–producing communities. Collard states that the number and complexity of tools varies greatly among populations and he focuses on why this variation exists. He starts off by discussing and analyzing toolkit variation in both hunter–gatherer and farming societies and then moves on to discuss overall technological variation in these societies and the possible explanation for it. He lists four hypotheses that help explain this variation in toolkits among groups. They are the Diet hypothesis, the Risk hypothesis, the Mobility hypothesis, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He then moves on to food producers (farmers) instead of hunter–gatherers. He notes that population size is a major driver in technological variation among food– producers and there is no evidence of risk of resource failure in these larger groups. I think that the most interesting question posed by Mark Collard is whether there is a difference between hunter–gatherers and food producers in regards to toolkit variation. Not only is he interested in the difference between the two group types, he uses multiple variables and hypotheses to measure and analyze these differences. If I was to do this experiment, it would have never crossed my mind to compare groups of different composition and social structure. I would have thought that humans are all capable of the same activities and that global variation among toolkit complexity and richness was due mostly to environmental factors. The most important thing I learned was how tool use evolved over time, leading to our species' current use of advanced tools. Even though Collard did not speak about humans over a long period of time or directly about human evolution, one can deduce that as our species evolved from foragers to organized societies, our toolkit complexity and richness increased dramatically. An example is teams of MIT scientists that have created a synthetic, self–assembling chloroplast that can be break and reassemble repeatedly, a self–restoring solar cell. (Dillow, 2010). Another example is a company called Bloom Energy, which is producing tiny fuel cell boxes called "Bloom Boxes." Two of these can power an average U.S. home. Ever since 1956, when John McCarthy coined the term "artificial intelligence" (AI) for computer systems that are able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, AI has grown into something incredible. To many, this is a good thing that people should continue to improve on. However, there are many risks in looking at what can happen with AI and people can argue for both sides. To continue, another very real risk is that the AI is programmed to do something helpful, but ends up developing its own destructive way of doing it. In an article produced by the Future of Life Institute, Benefits & Risks of Artificial Intelligence, this could happen this could happen "whenever we fail to fully align the AI's goals with ours, which is strikingly difficult." There are many places this can happen; one of those being on the battlefield where machines can turn into absolute killers who choose their own targets. Another problem is that even if humans do program AI to do a specific job and they do it correctly, AI will always find a way to grow. As stated in Amitai and Oren Etzioni's article, Should Artificial Intelligence Be Regulated?, "computers will continue to advance and give birth to rapid technological progress that will result in dramatic and unpredictable changes for humanity" (Etzioni 32). Hence it argues that these creations cannot be considered new as it draws upon something that already exists and not "disembodied inspiration" as mentioned by MacKenzie and Wajcman (1985). In Social Determinism, technology does have a limited amount of power as it may open up more opportunities, however the choice to exploit it remains in society's power (White, 1978). Jazz as we know it has existed for over a century, with its roots stemming from the low–tech history of the slave fields, and European classical music. Throughout the 20th century, however, new advancements in technology would change music forever, and Jazz is no exception. As technology advanced, so too did complex compositions of the artists, and even our definition of music as a whole. The first innovation which revolutionized Jazz was Thomas Edison's phonograph, the first device capable of recording and reproducing sound. As musicians previously learned through reading sheet music, it was impossible to discern the variations in tone and improvisation from a musical work. The phonograph was revolutionary for its time, as musicians could now learn through listening to details within the music. The device also helped transform Jazz to a national genre, as the advent of recording allowed one musician to listen to the works of another from afar. Early recording companies such as Columbia and the Victor Talking Machine Company sprang up as a result of this invention. Though the later disc record phonographs (also known as "gramophones") won the format war against Edison's cylindrical phonograph, Edison himself began the chain of innovation. Or the invention of many weapons in the time of war to gain an advantage over the enemy. If we look at how both have changed and evolved over time, I pose a question that I am trying to find sources to answer for an average adult audience. How has human technology evolved over time, and what does this mean for how it can and will change in the future? I would like to start with the source I thought was the worst for such a paper, 23 Incredible New Technologies You'll See by 2021. A blog post that talks about technology that are believed to appear in the next ten years from before the paper was written (Wire, 2013). While there are some positives to the source: it being written with the average reader in mind, and some of the predictions close to when the year it was guessed. There are also heavier cons that make it the worst. There is no way to know where the information came from as there are no sources listed anywhere on the page. Many of the predictions to a reader today would see are incorrect or know that it has grossly overestimated how much it has integrated into society. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Argumentative Essay On Technology In a world that is so reliant on technology, it is hard – if not impossible – to imagine a time without it. Technology and artificial intelligence (or AI) have not only become a tool, but an extension of ourselves. Our own present–day evolution may be difficult to witness or track, but we can measure our growth through our advances in technology. Like everything humans might encounter or create, technology has the potential to harm us – the same tools we utilize for the greater good of our society can be used by those who wish to harm us and have access to the same information. However, despite this I believe that the definitive and potential good that technology presents far outweighs the definitive and potential negatives, and I believe that technology is beyond beneficial to us. It's easy to be fearful of technological advancements and artificial intelligence when we do not understand how they work. An important thing to keep in mind is that, even though we may not be aware of it, we are constantly helping artificial intelligence improve. In the beginning, many believed that artificial intelligence could be created simply by providing instructions to a machine, then allowing it to discern the information within bounds of the direction. This provided far too much room for error, because the machine would be incapable of considering what went against the "typical" instruction, so the machine would automatically disregard it. A wonderful example of this would be regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Argumentative Essay On Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence is a topic within the public media that has existed for decades, but is now a concern due to the reality of human advancement and innovation in the field of science and technology. Many people believe that computers will become self–aware or sentient and view humanity as a disposable resource and gain supremacy. Reasoning that research on the technology should halt and not become more advance. Whereas others believe they will help catapult research and the economy forward, supporting the operations and innovations the technology offers. The complicated and divided solutions to the debate aren't obvious, but there are more benefits to improving artificial intelligence than there is stopping it. Therefore, the negative effects people believe will occur can be resolved. There are different types of artificial intelligence that many institutes and companies believe in. However, they all share the same belief of a self–aware, conscious, human–like, computer system, the type of AI people fear. Disregarding that an AI is a computer much like a phone or laptop, one must consider that if something is sentient like a person or animal, should they be treated like one? And if not, is it discrimination or racism when it is treated like an item? Slavery treated people based on race or social status differently, the bottom being slaves. Some might argue that machines don't have a "soul" or aren't alive. There are hundreds of questions and ideas that have no clear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Technological Evolution in the Film Industry Essay As times are changing, knowledge and information are also changing. With that, the development of motion picture complexity has changed the film industry by a continuing technological evolution. It is evident that films have changed significantly over the last 100 years. The intricacy of filmmaking technology has rapidly progressed, allowing creative potential for filmmakers. Films are often due to technological advances, or even to reintroduce a classic story. Some examples of films that have been remade include Scarface (1932), remade in 1983, and The Magnificent Seven (1960), remade in 1998. King Kong (1933) is another example of a film that has been remade. The remake, King Kong (2005), directed by Peter Jackson, shows technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stop motion animation sequences were filmed separately from the live action scenes with the actors. These two parts were then combined to create the illusion that the ape was towering over the actors. In the 2005 remake of the film, director Peter Jackson relied on Computer–Generated Imagery (CGI) to animate Kong. This use of CGI gave the director greater artistic control of the narrative. Many of the sets were computer–generated, as well as Kong himself. To combine both the actors and the computer–generated images together, chroma keying was used. In the scene where Ann Darrow is placed in the hand of Kong, the actress was filmed against a green screen, and held by a large green hand. When this scene was merged with the digital Kong, a composite image shows Kong holding her. Since chroma–keying technology did not exist in the 1930's, a full–sized, fur covered hand had to be constructed to create the effect of Kong holding the actor. The difference between the visual effects in both versions is significant, making is apparent that the remake has displayed great technological advancement. These advancements also make the film more believable, and emphasise the story. Another aspect of the film that had a significant impact was colour. In the original version of King Kong, the film was shot in black and white. Sometimes there can be implications with interpreting the emotions in the film. Colour in film is a huge ... Technological Convergence Convergence is defined as the interlinking of computing and other information technologies, media content, and communication networks that have arisen as a result of the evolution and popularization of the internet as well as the activities, products and services that have emerged in the digital media space. Convergence is loosely defined as the occurrence of two or more things coming together to eventually meet and or in which old and new intersects or builds upon. Although for the consumer convergence simply means "convenience". Technological convergence is the trend of technologies that bring together a myriad of media. • 71. A Revolution Is A Dramatic And Wide Reaching Change A revolution is a dramatic and wide–reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in people 's ideas about it. Mankind has experienced three life changing revolutions that Yuval Noah Harari discusses in his book Sapiens. There has been a cognitive, an agricultural, and a scientific revolution, and now Nick Bostrom explores in his book, Superintelligence, how life would advance with a fourth one, a transhuman revolution. Finding the right path to artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to advancements for humankind that in relation to the past three revolutions could result in the start of a new journey, or in the end of the life humans now know. In relation to the previous three revolutions, the transhuman revolution will share many similarities in the patterns that occurred in each revolution. The main foundation of any revolution is cooperation, curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be true for the agricultural, cognitive, and scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as well. Along with this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence. Bostrom proves this when he states, "Humanity has gained enormously in collective intelligence over the course of history and prehistory. The gains come from many sources, including innovations in communications technology, such as writing and printing, and above all the introduction of language itself..." The rapid evolution of how we investigate queries or entertain our children is creating vast demographic gaps as small as three years as technology is seemingly enveloping our way of life, communication and how we portray ourselves. Throughout time, we, as a human race, have always tried to transcend our limitations by developing tools to ensure our dominance and advancement to better our society. However I believe it has come to the point where our rapid development of Information technology throughout the years particularly in the last 30, is breeding a socially incompetent society where crucial life skills such as body language and the art of face to face interaction is being lost through the use of Social network sites, texting and ... • 75. Capitalism In Brave New World Evolution is a natural process of the world. Dinosaurs are no longer in existence, and the giant pandas are not too far behind. Yet when it comes to humans, people have trouble acknowledging that the human race, too, will have to come to an end; or as Kurzweil predicts, will have to adapt into something better in terms of evolution. However, the current state of society, in which everyone is strung on a hierarchy until the day he dies, the singularity will produce a less that favorable result. Though "inevitable and imminent," the singularity will make people increasingly unhappy by enhancing the socially constructed hierarchies that separate us from free will (Singularity). Capitalism prevents us from valuing ourselves, which is why we aren't happy. In Brave New World, it is obvious that capitalistic ideals drive the society, in which their sole purpose is to consume, as they believe that "[one] can't consume much if [one sits] still and [reads] books" (Brave New World 50). The desire to produce, consume, and earn money at the end of it all makes us stray from the activities that bring people the most pleasure. We are so caught up in making money and getting ourselves higher on the never–ending hierarchy that the idea of leisure and happiness is forgotten. Though the technology that supports capitalism is thought to be highly developed and is a result of our most intellectual advances, the reality is that we are becoming reliant on technology in order to make us happy; ...
