What Is Crocs Competitive Advantage
Crocs Strategy for Competitive Advantage
With revenue from Crocs shoe sales reaching to $680 million in 2007, it is clear that the company has
developed a successful strategy. Not all of the success can be contributed to the design of the product.
Although their products were in high demand, there are more underlying factors that have paved the
way for Crocs to be competitive in the shoe market. Crocs supply chain design and use of vertical
integration revolutionized speed and quality of order fulfillment.
Traditionally, the shoe industry was seasonal and based on projections of future trends. Retail stores
would need to place orders several months before the shoes would even hit the shelves. As orders
were made early in the year, manufacturers would begin production for shipment later in the year.
Since inventory supply depended on expected sales, stock could not be quickly replenished as it ran
out. The executives at Crocs decided to branch out from the traditional production schedules and
develop a lean production model. As sales increased or decreased, Crocs managed to speed up and
slow down production throughout the year to quickly replenish depleted inventory. Since the shoes
were easily made with the foam mold design, rapid production and order fulfillment came easily for
Crocs. This approach attracted the attention of many footwear retailers. With Crocs shoes being made
to order, stores could more easily control inventory without worrying about a

Situational Transitions
In life people constantly experience changes. Whether the change is bad, good, expected or
unexpected, it always occurs. Similarly, people also go through transitions. However, unlike change,
which is a shift in what a person is used to, a transition is a turning point that often causes a major
reshaping in a person s life (Transitions Class Notes, 2010). There are five types of transitions that a
person can experience. The transitions include developmental, health illness, organizational,
situational, and multiple (Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). A situational transition in
particular is when a person experiences a reshaping in their lifestyle (Hampton, 2010). That being
said, immigration is considered to be a situational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another difference noted between the articles is that Perriera et al. (2007) focuses more on Latino
immigrant youth whereas Birman et al. (2007) and Gaytan et al. (2007) do not draw on a particular
ethnic group but on immigrant youth in general. Evidently, migrating to a new country can be
challenging for immigrant youth. Having a lack of resources available to meet their needs and family
conflict surrounding cultural preferences, can lead to the youth to have feelings of powerlessness and
despair. Powerlessness is the perception that one lacks the capacity or authority to affect an outcome
(Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). Without the proper resources available to immigrant youth
in their new culture and surroundings, they can feel as if there is nothing they can do to assist them to
progress in their new life. Also, because of family conflict, youth may feel as if they cannot talk to
their parents about their difficulties and therefore have nobody to support them through this
challenging time. This can cause them to feel defeated and believe themselves to be inadequate in
their capabilities. As a result, feelings of guilt and shame can arise, which in turn can cause them to
have a consistent negative outlook and continuously cause them to believe that they will fail. It is
important to recognize the impact of feeling of powerlessness as it can significantly affect the ability
of the newcomer youth

Immigrants In The Antebellum Period
With different time periods comes contrasting views, problems, and achievements. The settlers in the
colonies faced different hardships, but also had some similarities with immigrants in the Antebellum
period. The settlers from the Antebellum period came from Ireland and Germany, while the colonists
came from England. Despite being in different time periods and involving diverse groups of people,
these immigrants had many similarities, and differences. The people in both time periods had reasons
for immigrating, faced problems, and had goals they wished to achieve upon their arrival.
The Antebellum period took place before the Civil War, and after the Civil War of 1812. Brought on
by a need for laborers and immigrants in search of economic opportunity, this time period was
significantly shaped by many factors including the rise of abolition and the prominence of slavery. The
United States offered more jobs and opportunity to make a living rather than either starving or dealing
with political turmoil. Around 7 million people migrated to America from 1820 1870. One third of this
new population was Irish and one third was German. Around 1845 in Ireland, a potato famine struck
and caused millions of Irish people to starve. Because of this, over 1.25 million Irish moved to the
United States to escape it. The Irish immigrants were mostly poor and unskilled, while the immigrants
from Germany were skilled laborers and professionals who came from various economic classes. The

Mental Illness In Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
In Godwin s story A Sorrowful Woman , the mother has a series of very complex feelings and
emotions. From the story, it can be inferred that this is a woman with a sudden onset of mental illness,
a woman who has lost her identity and sense of belonging; and a woman who is consciously aware of
all this, knowing she is a burden to her loved ones.
This mother shows signs of her mental illness almost right off the bat, when, after looking at her son,
she began yelping without tears, retching in between (39). The onset of this illness appears to be very
sudden. The story begins with One winter evening she looked at them....the sight of them made her so
sad and sick she did not want to see them ever again (39). It seems as if just one evening she suddenly
begins to feel this way. When the son says, It s alright Mommy (39), causing the father to respond
Mommy is sick (39), shows that the father did not have time to explain this to the son any time before.
There is no evidence given in the story as to what caused her mental illness, though we can infer that
the onset was quite sudden. Throughout the story, the woman is never identified, only being referred
to as the woman (40). So we never have a sense of her identity outside of the fact that she is a wife
and a mother with a mental illness. She also tries to find herself and her identity. She was a young
queen, a virgin in a tower, she was the previous inhabitant, the girl with all the energies. She tried

Sharon Olds Sex Without Love
Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love is a poem about the way one individual feels about having sex
without love. The speaker in the poem has a difficulty understanding why two people would want to
have sex without being in love. In the first two lines of the poem, the speaker says, how do they do,
the ones who make love / without love (Olds). The speaker seems to be questioning as to how people
have sex without love as though that wasn t something that could happen. There are different literary
elements that Olds uses throughout her poem to help us better understand how the speaker feels. These
elements help us to gain insight that the speaker feels that people should not have emotionless and
meaningless sex but should strive to find someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In lines 4 8, the speaker says, fingers hooked / inside each other s bodies, faces / red as steak, wine,
wet as the / children at birth whose mothers are going to / give them away. The speaker is comparing
the two lovers to nothing but a piece of meat. The comparison is more or less showing us how sex
without love really feels. It is also saying that sex without love is emotionless and only requires the
partner s presence. Towards the end of the quote, the speaker is also comparing having sex without
love to a mother who has just given birth and choses to give her baby up. This could be one of the
repercussions of having sex without love. Sharon Olds uses another simile later on in the poem that
gives us another insight on how to speaker feels. The speaker goes on to say, just factors, like the
partner / in the bed, and not the truth, which is the / single body alone in the universe / against its own
best time (Olds). This comparison goes on to say that even though there isn t any love between the
two lovers, there is still pleasure in the act even if it is meaningless. This quote is also saying that even
though there is someone else in the bed with you, you are still alone. In the end, all that you will be
left with is yourself and there will never be that intimate connection that you get while having sex

Easy Rider Analysis
In Easy Rider, the mid 20th century intriguing drama directed by Dennis Hopper, we were drawn back
to 1969 to shed light on the influences of drugs, sex, and culture as the characters began to question
the American system in this counterculture movement. The counterculture movement provoked an
alternative lifestyle that came about during the Vietnam War. The tensions following the protests of
human inequalities embodying racial segregation and the frustration faced with the draft system
resulted in the Civil Rights Movement. This film, Easy Rider, helped to formulate and to transition
over to the New Hollywood slump era. With the experimentation of new drugs such as cocaine and
marijuana, people yearned to grasp a fresh perspective on life through the usage of these substances.
These hippies, especially the characters throughout the film, Billy and Wyatt, wanted to acquire
different forms of these perceptions so they were not viewed as inadequate within society. The essence
embodied throughout the film exhibits Billy and Wyatt aspiring to find freedom through Hopper s
usage of stylistic forms through film editing and cinematography. These stylistic forms do not work in
isolation, but rather work together to create the underlying message in the quest to find themselves.
Even from the very start of the film, formalist elements are exemplified throughout the camera
movement as being jerky and careless. While still alluring in the natural presence expressed
throughout the captivating views of scenery during the sequences of the cross country motorcycle ride.
Easy Rider s central theme is freedom; while Billy and Wyatt embark on an adventure throughout
America in pursuit to find a community to establish their roots. They traveled to many destinations
from Los Angeles to New Orleans to get that sense of belonging to join society harmoniously. They
essentially could not find what they were ultimately searching for. As the film initially starts, the
chopper detailed in authentic American features arrives at the La Contenta Bar, a rugged bar located in
California to participate in a drug deal. The inefficient and weak looking machines they drive, which
is a depicted as the American dream, exemplifies

Pros And Cons Of E-Learning
E learning
E learning is a new field of learning based on technologies that emerged in last few decades. The
number of learners who use e learning is increasing and become larger than before. This article shows
an overview of e learning , pros , and cons of using it.
Definition of e learning e learning defined as learning utilizing electronic technologies to access
educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom (what is learning?, n.d ). Another definition
is is an umbrella term that describes education using electronic devices and digital media (E learning,
November, 5, 2015). The letter e refers to electronic , Luskin (2001) explains e as exciting, energetic,

Synchronous learning
Learning and teaching process occurs at the same time, the trainer and learners interact with each
other and share the ideas, details, and solutions during the session while they are physically separated
from place shift . There are many examples of synchronous learning such as virtual classroom,
audio/video conferencing, online lectures, listening to a live radio broadcast, and two way live satellite
broadcast .( Yakaraju G ,2014)
Desynchronous learning
The main distinction between synchronous learning and this approach is that no interaction between
trainer and learners because learning and teaching process occurs in separated times (not at the same

The Ritual Core Of Fascist Theatre
Fascism and Rituals : History has revealed a close connection between theatrical presentation of
rituals and dictatorial politics. Rituals are acts which are meant to connect to the very core of the
human soul , the centre of his most elementary being . Naturally , any fascist dictatorial politics tries
to exploit rituals as a mass medium to perpetuate it s ideology. A fascist regime consolidates its
authority not only by military power but also by popular consensus and use of ritualistic theatre plays
a major role in manufacturing consensus. Gunter Berghaus in his essay The Ritual Core of Fascist

The Cost Of Transportation In The United States
Transportation is the process of which people get from one location to another; however, it comes at a
cost. The price we all pay when we take a method of transportation comes in two forms. The first form
is time and the second is a monetary value. In recent days it seems like the cost that correlates to
transportation is rising. As raw materials like oil and coal become scares throughout the world the
price for those materials increase as the demand increases. With the cost of raw materials increasing it
sends a shock wave down the economic ladder which leads to transportation cost rising. On the other
hand, the time it takes to travel your destination also gets longer since more people are on the road
which ultimately leads to a slower commute time. The United Nations stated that in 2050, the world
population will increase from 7.2 billion to 9.1 billion people (United Nations, 2015). ... Show more

Windshield Survey Analysis
Subsystems 4 6
Introduction
Through a windshield survey one is able to assess a city. While touring through a city, one can
evaluate and assess many different parts that make up the city. In this survey specific attention and
detail was paid attention to in regards to three subsystems of the city. The three subsystems that will
be discussed are education, recreation, and politics government.
Education
Through the tour of Sentinel City, one school area was noted. It is unable to be determined if it is a
private school or public school. There are school buses in the area that are most likely used to bring
the children to and from the school. Although buses are available, it still remains possible that some

Some parts of city life are seen as positive attributes, and with the good, there are negative attributes
as well. If I were to be considering purchasing a home in Sentinel City, I would first weigh the pros
and cons of moving there. The diversity of the city is one thing I see as a positive factor, the different
sections of the city present exposure to different cultural things like different people, food, and music.
This diversity is a welcomed mix in life. The proximity of medical care to the city is another plus to
moving into Sentinel City. It is comforting to know emergency care is only minutes away. This would
also likely be my place of employment, so commuting to work would be very short and easy. The
elevated rail system will fall in to both the positive and negative details in Sentinel City. Being near a
public train system makes commuting affordable, and convenient. In contrast to what appears to be the
good details of the city, there are also negative ones. The elevated train can prove to be disruptive,
noisy, and polluting. Another down side to Sentinel City, is the lack of supermarkets within the city.
There are bodegas throughout, but no larger options for food shopping. This lack of options is a
potential health problem. According to Fiechtner et al, (2016), there is a correlation with
fruit/vegetabel intake, weight status, and proximity to a supermarket. Lastly, the lack of bike lanes in

Surrogacy Should Be Allowed In Australia
The legal framework internationally has made it complex for intended parents to receive the title of
parentage if the child is born overseas via commercial surrogacy arrangements. This has resulted in
many Australians becoming stranded overseas after having a child through a surrogate mother, as they
are unable to apply for citizenship for the child under the Australian Citizenship Act, due to the
obscurities of the definition of parent/s. Consequently the current surrogacy laws have not stopped the
exploitation of under paid women willing to be surrogates; they have simply moved them to poorer
countries such as Nepal, Thailand and India. Thus Surrogacy in Australia presents many legal and
social issues within our country.
In 2014 a commercial surrogacy arrangement was made between an Australian couple and a desperate

The agency should be subject to requests of commercial surrogacy which will then be received by an
expert panel team who can approve or dismiss the request once appropriate background checks,

parents with essential services to guide them through the process; this could include counselling
before the process starts, during the process and after the process.
An appropriate source of financial compensation for the surrogate mother, managed by a third party,
such as Centrelink or a specialised government organisation for surrogates as mentioned above. The
compensation the surrogates could possibly receive from this institute includes expenses incurred due
to the pregnancy including maternity clothes and lost wages. Expert Hammarberg states that allowing
surrogates to receive financial compensation may make it easier to recruit surrogates in Australia and
therefore reduce the need of people who undertake illegal surrogacy overseas. (Hammarberg,

The Travesty of the Albigensian Crusade
The Albigensian Crusade was started by the Roman Catholic Church under the order of Pope Innocent
III as what was actually a travesty of a religious movement, as it had hardly any religious impact. It
did, however, lead to immense political, pecuniary, and sociocultural alteration in the Holy Roman
Empire and France in the 13th Century AD because it really wasn t about religion; it was about power.
Wealth was spread and lost throughout the Holy Roman Empire and France as the fighting raged on.
Southern France s political power was abolished and replaced as a result of the attacks on Languedoc,
a powerhouse for beliefs contrary to Roman Catholicism. A cultured was razed and a society was
forever changed.
Languedoc was home to many trade towns on the Mediterranean Sea as well as the Atlantic Ocean
(Tyerman 576). It had been very prosperous and had become a fairly wealthy region; however the
destructive nature of the crusade s campaigns including: looting and burning cities, and decimating its
residents led to the atrophy of Languedocs economy. The Albigensian crusade was a sumptuous
endeavour (Tyerman 97) meaning that the Church, who sponsored the crusade, would need to acquire
the funds necessary to support the crusaders. Which wasn t too difficult, as the Church actually
controlled most of the wealth in the Holy Roman Empire (Roberts 124) through taxing its members.
Taxation of citizens of the empire and donations from the more affluent and pious aristocrats financed

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Beeswara
Apply a moisturizer or a conditioner to retain alligator leather s natural oils and compounds and
maintain its luxurious appearance and texture. Beeswax is a good conditioner for this type of leather.
Use cleaning products that are specifically formulated for alligator leather. The wrong chemicals,
especially those in cowhide leather cleaning agents, can do more harm than good by darkening the
leather and damaging its skin.
Just like human skin, alligator leather can manifest adverse reactions to cleaning products. When using

negative reactions.

One coat of wax or polish at a time is generally enough.
Apply a stain and water protector.
To be added under ADVANTAGE OF CAIMAN SKIN heading:
As we have mentioned earlier, caiman leather is relatively cheaper compared to crocodile and alligator
leather. This does not mean that caiman skin is of inferior quality, though. Part of the reason caiman
leather is more affordable is that caimans are not as hard to find. There are farms where caimans are
grown specifically for their skin.
The fact that caiman leather is not as soft or pliable as crocodile and alligator leather does not make
caiman skin low quality. In fact, its rigid body is highly ideal for boots, handbags, and other items that
need to hold their shape.
Also, although caiman leather has smaller tiles, it does have deeper ridges that give it more character
and personality. The Hornback, for instance, is favored by some manufacturers and designers because
of their distinctive scales, which add to the final product s appeal.
Finally, caiman leather has a rich history behind it. Back in the 30 s and the 40 s, it became a popular
raw material for women s handbags, briefcases, and small

My Christian faith has been a cornerstone throughout my life, calming and supporting me within the

Comparing Plato s Allegory Of The Cave And The Matrix
In Plato s Allegory of the Cave and the Wachowskis The Matrix, the ideas of truth are that it can only
be defined by how far one is willing to think outside of their own reality. Both the allegory and the
film depict truth as a key of sorts for individuals to break free from their imprisonment. This can be
seen by Neo s physical escape from the pod, which he had been unknowingly trapped in his whole life
and his ascension to light after being swept down the pod s tube. The tube which swept Neo away is
alike to the freed prisoner being dragged...into the sunlight by force in Plato s allegory; the two
characters are being forced to have their senses enlightened once they ve been freed from the chains
on their bodies (but their minds still need to get adjusted to seeing the world in a new way). However,
the allegory and the film differ in that Plato s prison is a physical cave which houses it s prisoners,

Arthur Leander s Station Eleven
The nature of one s history has an inevitable effect on their future. In many cases, the forthcoming
situations that one faces are based on recollections of the past and their interpretation of it. Within the
novel, Station Eleven, author Emily St. John Mandel develops a plethora of characters whose past
actions and memories have a considerable effect on their future. This is exemplified through the
impact that Arthur s turmoil lifestyle has on him as he ages, Tyler s development of radicalistic beliefs
due to his exposure towards profound ideology from a very young age, along with Kirsten s change in
perspective and formation of interests due to prior actions and memories. Throughout his acting
career, Arthur Leander s dramatic lifestyle as well as series of tumultuous events impact him greatly.
As decades go by, Arthur s previous affairs reshape his mentality for the future. His fame results in a
substantial lack of privacy, and after years of encountering such exposure to the public, his sole desire
is to be left in peace. Despite this, during the opening years of his acting career, Arthur is desperate for
his first glimpse of fame and wants to be famous (St. John Mandel, 110). As his career progresses, this
desire begins to vanish due to his loss of personal privacy; largely due to the media. Arthur ... Show

How Customization And Service Quality
Customization and service quality are both important aspects for any successful restaurant. These
components have many different qualities that can ultimately be very beneficial for businesses or quite
the contrary. By executing these qualities in a particular restaurant setting it is likely that the given
company will prosper. For my application paper I will focus in on how customization and service
quality can be improved specifically at Charley G s Restaurant in Lafayette, Louisiana. Charley G s
Restaurant takes pride in having exceptional service. The staff is very accommodating to customers
and do they do their best to provide phenomenal service. The restaurant is equipped with Point of
Sales system which helps waiters quickly and efficiently send orders out to the kitchen which is very
beneficial when it comes down to customizing particular orders. In fact, both the line cook and the
saucier chef for the restaurant were both definitely in favor of using the technology. Jordan Causey, a
line cook for Charley G s, commented You can type in specifically what each customer wants. It
speeds up the ordering process tremendously because the orders are immediately sent to our kitchen
staff (Causey). (See exhibit 1) Because the kitchen gets the orders in so quickly, it accelerates the
entire cooking and service process immensely. Although we have come to the conclusion that the POS
system is definitely an advantage to Charley G s, it also has one downfall, personal errors

Hence the scheme proves itself superior to the DC machine. The problem faced by FOC scheme is
complexity in its implementation due to dependence of machine parameters, reference frame
transformation. Later DTC was introduced. Direct torque control (DTC) method is used to control the
torque (finally speed) in variable frequency drives of three phase AC electric motors. From the
measured voltage and current of the motor an estimate of the motor s magnetic flux and torque is
calculated. Integrating the stator voltages, stator flux linkage is estimated. Cross product of measured
motor current vector and estimated stator flux linkage vector results in estimated torque. The
estimated flux magnitude and torque are then compared with their reference values. If either the
estimated flux or torque deviates from the reference more than allowed limits, the transistors of the
variable frequency drive are turned OFF and ON in such a way that the flux and torque errors will
return in their tolerant bands as fast as possible. Thus direct torque control is one form of the
hysteresis control. The method requires only the stator resistance to estimate the stator flux and torque.
The basic DTC scheme [1] consists of two comparators with specified bandwidth, switching table,
voltage source inverter, flux and torque estimation block. Like every control method has some
advantages and disadvantages, DTC method has too. Some of the advantages are lower parameters
dependency, making

Wb Yeats As A Dynamic Poet
William Butler Yeats is one of the most renowned Anglo Irish poets and a winner of the Nobel Prize
for Literature in 1923. As a representative symbolist poet his primary focus was to place his love for
his origins, literature, philosophy and history in his art. The world that he presents in his works is a
mixture of natural, human and cultural values. There is constant renewal, experimentation and utter
dedication to the craft of poetry in his works. Of all the poets in our course, WB Yeats is easily our
favorite. His poetry has a dynamic quality. Several aspects of his poetry that appeal the most to us are
the political or polemical dimension to his work, his use of nature as a theme and his reflection on old
age, body and the soul and finally his discussion on mysticism and reincarnation of the ... Show more

One of the most important aims of poetry is to give the reader aesthetic pleasure. But what is more
important is that it should present reality truthfully and defend human values artistically. It should
envision a society where people can live a better life. Yeats did just that. The greatness of his poetry
lies in the fact that it interprets the contemporary political events within the framework of a
philosophical system. All the great poets speak of people and rise above the petty politics of their
class. The cross the boundary of politics and enter into the realm of philosophy. Yeats too rose above
the ephemerality of politics and made an attempt to achieve permanence in poetry by following the
philosophical system. Being from an Anglo Irish family, he could have easily gone to the English side
but what he chose was to represent the repressed Irish people. He was a nationalist but he spoke of all
nations colonized by the British. He had a special sympathy for India. As a poet he was concerned
with human values and believed that there should be a proper balance between the matter and

Fences, The Heart And Spirit Of The Average Man
Fences tells the story of Troy, a sour sanitation worker desperately clinging to the notion that he could
have played Major League Baseball. He is unlikeable and unfair, at times cruel and severe, however
these actions are a result of his turbulent childhood, his constant defeat in the face of adversity, be they
his baseball career or the struggles of his day to day life. A tragedy in the truest sense, Fences
chronicles the heart and spirit of the average man (Miller). The mold Wilson uses to cast Troy has its
share of cracks and imperfections, but rather than focusing on the many faults on the surface of an
underprivileged life, it is paramount that the origins of these cracks and the sources of these
imperfections is understood; only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fence can also be viewed as the symbolic obstacles Troy faces in throughout his life. Poverty and
homelessness as a young man, 15 years in prison, the color line in baseball, all are fences which he
was unable to surmount.
Like many tragic stories the underlying struggle is that of the individual attempting to gain his rightful
position in his society (Miller). Fences is full of struggles starting for Troy as soon as he comes into
this world. Troy is born in 1904 into a less than perfect world and by the time he is fourteen years old
he leaves Alabama to escape his abusive father. He runs away to Pittsburgh, following the promise
that there are good jobs there. Wilson sets the scene in Steel City , a place of great importance to him.
He was born there and sets nine out of the ten plays in the neighborhood of the Hill District (Wardi 1).
His relationship with his father is lacking, something that he is determined to improve upon with his
own children, but as time progresses, it becomes apparent that the apple hasn t fallen far from the tree.
As a father Troy doesn t have much to go off of, the only love he has ever know has come from his
father. His mother left when he was young, as did all of the women his father courted: He wasn t good
for nobody (Wilson 556). So in addition to his absent father figure

Native American Civil War Essay
After the Civil War, thousands of Americans poured into the Great Plains on a collision course with
western Indian tribes. Homesteaders, ranchers, and miners encroached on Indian lands and threatened
native game and ways of life. They called on the U.S. Army to crush Indian resistance and confine
tribes to government controlled reservations. The resulting white, indian conflicts often took a
particularly brutal turn and ultimately resulted in the near de struction of the indigenous
peoples.Warfare between Europeans and Indians was common in the seventeenth century. In 1622 the

Indian raids often encouraged by the British were influential in causing the United States to declare
war on Great Britain in 1812. Someone by the name of Andrew Jackson led the counterthrust winning

Theme Of Conflict In Eveline
Do you remember the hardships you went through as a teenager? If you are a teen, what are some
things you struggle with? Without a doubt, being a teen is very difficult. Teens are emotional,
rebellious, awkward, lost, etc. The list goes on and on. But it definitely doesn t help when an abusive
father is involved. Both Evelyn and Eleanor struggle with abuse from the men in their family, but take
upon it differently. Although, they both have lover to keep their mind off their home life, but what
happens when conflict bursts between them? What happens when their only escape is lost? What do
they do then? Both stories portray how conflict impacts their decision making. The protagonist of the
short story Eveline and the book Eleanor and Park both present the hardships of being a teenager
through the conflict they have with their father.
In the short story Eveline , Eveline s mother and Harry, her brother, are also involved in the mental
and physical abuse and of course she feels pity for them, though she doesn t stop it.
As she mused the pitiful vision of her mother s life laid its spell on the very quick of her being that life
of commonplace sacrifices closing in final craziness. (Joyce, 5)
Who could blame her, though? She knows he won t stop and trying to do so will only make things
worse.
Even now, though she was over nineteen, she sometimes felt herself in danger of her father s violence.
(Joyce, 2)
Eleanor has a similar mindset. Her new stepfather

Personal Narrative On My Converse
Navy blue with silver eyelets, no laces, a white toe cap, and a black racing stripe. What could be so
special about a shoe? To a child, shoes are just something that you sport until your feet bust out of
them, or until you wear holes into them. I was eight years old when my feet stopped growing, when I
got my first pair of converse, and when my shoe obsession began. The first place I took my Converse
was on the third grade trip to Camp Mary Orton. I was nervous about going somewhere new for an
entire week, but my fresh out of the box shoes gave me the confidence to do anything. The muddy
earth no longer daunted me and the idea of climbing a wooden pole named after a diaper company
(the Pamper Pole) did not shake me. The thought of failing to scale a rock wall could not phase the
confidence that my new shoes provided. If the shoes could walk me through the halls of the school,
perfectly matching the plaid of my jumper, then I could handle whatever challenges camp threw at me.
Two years of wear on the already faded blue created a dull black. I forgot about the color they had
once been and began wearing them with everything. At 11, my favorite outfit was a slouchy Hello
Kitty top with black leggings and my distressed blue converse. I wore that outfit when I boarded the
plane to Europe, scared as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

canvas shoes. I am the confident 50s high school basketball star racing down the court and my

Formal Analysis of Raging Bull Essay
Formal Analysis of Raging Bull Martin Scorsese s film Raging Bull is considered by many to be one
of the greatest sports films of all time. The plot focuses on the professional and personal life of boxer
Jake LaMotta. In the opening sequence, the film uses narrative, mise en scene, cinematography,
editing, and sound to provide a framework for the rest of the picture. These elements also help to
establish the film s themes of nostalgia, isolation, loneliness, and suffering. In addition to setting up
the film s themes, these elements also help to create two distinct personas of the main character Jake
LaMotta. The narrative form exhibited in the opening sequence seems simple at first glance, but
actually conveys a multitude of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Occasionally, the scene will be interrupted by the sudden appearance of flashbulbs penetrating the
smoky air. This not only lends a feeling of authenticity for the setting and time period, it also reflects
the sudden outbursts of violence prevalent throughout the rest of the film. LaMotta himself is
shrouded in his robe and shadows, making his face impossible to see, however his gloved fists are
easily seen as he gracefully throws jabs and stalks the left side of the ring. This introduces his fists as a
motif that is repeated throughout the film. For example, LaMotta sees his hands as being too small,
later he abuses them against a cell wall, and most obviously are a symbol of his livelihood. His fists
are a tool, which he uses to punish others, as well as himself. The scene cuts to a sign, in the middle of
the screen, that reads An Evening with Jake LaMotta and the audience hears the voice of LaMotta for
the first time, which will lead to the next scene. The use of the word evening signals the transition that
is about to take place. The audience has seen LaMotta early in his career and now are about to witness
him in his career s twilight. This short scene ends when a man crosses in front of the sign, creating a
swiping effect. Now, the third scene begins. The viewer is presented a medium shot of an older,
overweight, and sloppy LaMotta. Juxtaposing the composition of the opening scene where LaMotta is
seen on the left

The Countess Of Pembroke s Arcadia And Astrophel And Stella
Sir Philip Sidney, sixteenth century poet responsible for such works as The Countess of Pembroke s
Arcadia and Astrophel and Stella, was a man that led an almost idealistic life. While not actually
noble, he was the grandson of the Duke of Northumberland, as well as the godson of Philip II of Spain
(Poetry Foundation). He was born on the 30th of November in 1554, and died on the 17th of October
in 1586 from a wound sustained in a minor skirmish (Biography.com). During his life he served as a
courtier and minor ambassador to Queen Elizabeth I, being sent to France as part of a delegation sent
to solidify a peace treaty (Poetry Foundation). However, even with his appearances in court and his
exceptional academic talents, it is for his poetry that he is best remembered today. From the time he
was nine years old, Philip ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His Arcadia was referenced by Shakespeare himself, and a character inspired by him appeared in
Shakespeare s own Twelfth Night (Biography.com). One of his most influential works however, was
The Defence of Poesy, in which he emphasized the importance of poetry in society (Poetry
Foundation). The Defense of Poesy referenced several historical and ancient poets such as Plato and
analyzed them, breaking down their ideals to reinforce his own (Poetry Foundation). Though Sir
Philip Sidney lived a rather forgettable life, his poems have outlived him and served as influence to
multiple other historical writers, Shakespeare included. His work, published post mortem in the 1590
s, was the most important thing he left behind (Ringler). He did however manage to serve as an
ambassador for the Queen during his lifetime, a post which sent him to France and then Germany
following the outbreak of violence during his stay in Paris (Poetry Foundation). He received his
knighthood in 1583, three years before his death from gangrene, and is otherwise rather forgettable in

  • 2. What Is Crocs Competitive Advantage Crocs Strategy for Competitive Advantage With revenue from Crocs shoe sales reaching to $680 million in 2007, it is clear that the company has developed a successful strategy. Not all of the success can be contributed to the design of the product. Although their products were in high demand, there are more underlying factors that have paved the way for Crocs to be competitive in the shoe market. Crocs supply chain design and use of vertical integration revolutionized speed and quality of order fulfillment. Traditionally, the shoe industry was seasonal and based on projections of future trends. Retail stores would need to place orders several months before the shoes would even hit the shelves. As orders were made early in the year, manufacturers would begin production for shipment later in the year. Since inventory supply depended on expected sales, stock could not be quickly replenished as it ran out. The executives at Crocs decided to branch out from the traditional production schedules and develop a lean production model. As sales increased or decreased, Crocs managed to speed up and slow down production throughout the year to quickly replenish depleted inventory. Since the shoes were easily made with the foam mold design, rapid production and order fulfillment came easily for Crocs. This approach attracted the attention of many footwear retailers. With Crocs shoes being made to order, stores could more easily control inventory without worrying about a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Situational Transitions In life people constantly experience changes. Whether the change is bad, good, expected or unexpected, it always occurs. Similarly, people also go through transitions. However, unlike change, which is a shift in what a person is used to, a transition is a turning point that often causes a major reshaping in a person s life (Transitions Class Notes, 2010). There are five types of transitions that a person can experience. The transitions include developmental, health illness, organizational, situational, and multiple (Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). A situational transition in particular is when a person experiences a reshaping in their lifestyle (Hampton, 2010). That being said, immigration is considered to be a situational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another difference noted between the articles is that Perriera et al. (2007) focuses more on Latino immigrant youth whereas Birman et al. (2007) and Gaytan et al. (2007) do not draw on a particular ethnic group but on immigrant youth in general. Evidently, migrating to a new country can be challenging for immigrant youth. Having a lack of resources available to meet their needs and family conflict surrounding cultural preferences, can lead to the youth to have feelings of powerlessness and despair. Powerlessness is the perception that one lacks the capacity or authority to affect an outcome (Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). Without the proper resources available to immigrant youth in their new culture and surroundings, they can feel as if there is nothing they can do to assist them to progress in their new life. Also, because of family conflict, youth may feel as if they cannot talk to their parents about their difficulties and therefore have nobody to support them through this challenging time. This can cause them to feel defeated and believe themselves to be inadequate in their capabilities. As a result, feelings of guilt and shame can arise, which in turn can cause them to have a consistent negative outlook and continuously cause them to believe that they will fail. It is important to recognize the impact of feeling of powerlessness as it can significantly affect the ability of the newcomer youth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Immigrants In The Antebellum Period With different time periods comes contrasting views, problems, and achievements. The settlers in the colonies faced different hardships, but also had some similarities with immigrants in the Antebellum period. The settlers from the Antebellum period came from Ireland and Germany, while the colonists came from England. Despite being in different time periods and involving diverse groups of people, these immigrants had many similarities, and differences. The people in both time periods had reasons for immigrating, faced problems, and had goals they wished to achieve upon their arrival. The Antebellum period took place before the Civil War, and after the Civil War of 1812. Brought on by a need for laborers and immigrants in search of economic opportunity, this time period was significantly shaped by many factors including the rise of abolition and the prominence of slavery. The United States offered more jobs and opportunity to make a living rather than either starving or dealing with political turmoil. Around 7 million people migrated to America from 1820 1870. One third of this new population was Irish and one third was German. Around 1845 in Ireland, a potato famine struck and caused millions of Irish people to starve. Because of this, over 1.25 million Irish moved to the United States to escape it. The Irish immigrants were mostly poor and unskilled, while the immigrants from Germany were skilled laborers and professionals who came from various economic classes. The Germans ... • 5. Mental Illness In Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman In Godwin s story A Sorrowful Woman , the mother has a series of very complex feelings and emotions. From the story, it can be inferred that this is a woman with a sudden onset of mental illness, a woman who has lost her identity and sense of belonging; and a woman who is consciously aware of all this, knowing she is a burden to her loved ones. This mother shows signs of her mental illness almost right off the bat, when, after looking at her son, she began yelping without tears, retching in between (39). The onset of this illness appears to be very sudden. The story begins with One winter evening she looked at them....the sight of them made her so sad and sick she did not want to see them ever again (39). It seems as if just one evening she suddenly begins to feel this way. When the son says, It s alright Mommy (39), causing the father to respond Mommy is sick (39), shows that the father did not have time to explain this to the son any time before. There is no evidence given in the story as to what caused her mental illness, though we can infer that the onset was quite sudden. Throughout the story, the woman is never identified, only being referred to as the woman (40). So we never have a sense of her identity outside of the fact that she is a wife and a mother with a mental illness. She also tries to find herself and her identity. She was a young queen, a virgin in a tower, she was the previous inhabitant, the girl with all the energies. She tried these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Sharon Olds Sex Without Love Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love is a poem about the way one individual feels about having sex without love. The speaker in the poem has a difficulty understanding why two people would want to have sex without being in love. In the first two lines of the poem, the speaker says, how do they do, the ones who make love / without love (Olds). The speaker seems to be questioning as to how people have sex without love as though that wasn t something that could happen. There are different literary elements that Olds uses throughout her poem to help us better understand how the speaker feels. These elements help us to gain insight that the speaker feels that people should not have emotionless and meaningless sex but should strive to find someone ... In lines 4 8, the speaker says, fingers hooked / inside each other s bodies, faces / red as steak, wine, wet as the / children at birth whose mothers are going to / give them away. The speaker is comparing the two lovers to nothing but a piece of meat. The comparison is more or less showing us how sex without love really feels. It is also saying that sex without love is emotionless and only requires the partner s presence. Towards the end of the quote, the speaker is also comparing having sex without love to a mother who has just given birth and choses to give her baby up. This could be one of the repercussions of having sex without love. Sharon Olds uses another simile later on in the poem that gives us another insight on how to speaker feels. The speaker goes on to say, just factors, like the partner / in the bed, and not the truth, which is the / single body alone in the universe / against its own best time (Olds). This comparison goes on to say that even though there isn t any love between the two lovers, there is still pleasure in the act even if it is meaningless. This quote is also saying that even though there is someone else in the bed with you, you are still alone. In the end, all that you will be left with is yourself and there will never be that intimate connection that you get while having sex while in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Easy Rider Analysis In Easy Rider, the mid 20th century intriguing drama directed by Dennis Hopper, we were drawn back to 1969 to shed light on the influences of drugs, sex, and culture as the characters began to question the American system in this counterculture movement. The counterculture movement provoked an alternative lifestyle that came about during the Vietnam War. The tensions following the protests of human inequalities embodying racial segregation and the frustration faced with the draft system resulted in the Civil Rights Movement. This film, Easy Rider, helped to formulate and to transition over to the New Hollywood slump era. With the experimentation of new drugs such as cocaine and marijuana, people yearned to grasp a fresh perspective on life through the usage of these substances. These hippies, especially the characters throughout the film, Billy and Wyatt, wanted to acquire different forms of these perceptions so they were not viewed as inadequate within society. The essence embodied throughout the film exhibits Billy and Wyatt aspiring to find freedom through Hopper s usage of stylistic forms through film editing and cinematography. These stylistic forms do not work in isolation, but rather work together to create the underlying message in the quest to find themselves. Even from the very start of the film, formalist elements are exemplified throughout the camera movement as being jerky and careless. While still alluring in the natural presence expressed throughout the captivating views of scenery during the sequences of the cross country motorcycle ride. Easy Rider s central theme is freedom; while Billy and Wyatt embark on an adventure throughout America in pursuit to find a community to establish their roots. They traveled to many destinations from Los Angeles to New Orleans to get that sense of belonging to join society harmoniously. They essentially could not find what they were ultimately searching for. As the film initially starts, the chopper detailed in authentic American features arrives at the La Contenta Bar, a rugged bar located in California to participate in a drug deal. The inefficient and weak looking machines they drive, which is a depicted as the American dream, exemplifies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The price we all pay when we take a method of transportation comes in two forms. The first form is time and the second is a monetary value. In recent days it seems like the cost that correlates to transportation is rising. As raw materials like oil and coal become scares throughout the world the price for those materials increase as the demand increases. Some parts of city life are seen as positive attributes, and with the good, there are negative attributes as well. If I were to be considering purchasing a home in Sentinel City, I would first weigh the pros and cons of moving there. The diversity of the city is one thing I see as a positive factor, the different sections of the city present exposure to different cultural things like different people, food, and music. This diversity is a welcomed mix in life. The proximity of medical care to the city is another plus to moving into Sentinel City. It is comforting to know emergency care is only minutes away. This would also likely be my place of employment, so commuting to work would be very short and easy. The elevated rail system will fall in to both the positive and negative details in Sentinel City. Being near a public train system makes commuting affordable, and convenient. In contrast to what appears to be the good details of the city, there are also negative ones. The elevated train can prove to be disruptive, noisy, and polluting. Another down side to Sentinel City, is the lack of supermarkets within the city. There are bodegas throughout, but no larger options for food shopping. This lack of options is a potential health problem. • 13. Surrogacy Should Be Allowed In Australia The legal framework internationally has made it complex for intended parents to receive the title of parentage if the child is born overseas via commercial surrogacy arrangements. This has resulted in many Australians becoming stranded overseas after having a child through a surrogate mother, as they are unable to apply for citizenship for the child under the Australian Citizenship Act, due to the obscurities of the definition of parent/s. Consequently the current surrogacy laws have not stopped the exploitation of under paid women willing to be surrogates; they have simply moved them to poorer countries such as Nepal, Thailand and India. The Travesty of the Albigensian Crusade The Albigensian Crusade was started by the Roman Catholic Church under the order of Pope Innocent III as what was actually a travesty of a religious movement, as it had hardly any religious impact. It did, however, lead to immense political, pecuniary, and sociocultural alteration in the Holy Roman Empire and France in the 13th Century AD because it really wasn t about religion; it was about power. Wealth was spread and lost throughout the Holy Roman Empire and France as the fighting raged on. Southern France s political power was abolished and replaced as a result of the attacks on Languedoc, a powerhouse for beliefs contrary to Roman Catholicism. A cultured was razed and a society was forever changed. Languedoc was home to many trade towns on the Mediterranean Sea as well as the Atlantic Ocean (Tyerman 576). It had been very prosperous and had become a fairly wealthy region; however the destructive nature of the crusade s campaigns including: looting and burning cities, and decimating its residents led to the atrophy of Languedocs economy. The Albigensian crusade was a sumptuous endeavour (Tyerman 97) meaning that the Church, who sponsored the crusade, would need to acquire the funds necessary to support the crusaders. In many cases, the forthcoming situations that one faces are based on recollections of the past and their interpretation of it. Within the novel, Station Eleven, author Emily St. John Mandel develops a plethora of characters whose past actions and memories have a considerable effect on their future. This is exemplified through the impact that Arthur s turmoil lifestyle has on him as he ages, Tyler s development of radicalistic beliefs due to his exposure towards profound ideology from a very young age, along with Kirsten s change in perspective and formation of interests due to prior actions and memories. Throughout his acting career, Arthur Leander s dramatic lifestyle as well as series of tumultuous events impact him greatly. As decades go by, Arthur s previous affairs reshape his mentality for the future. His fame results in a substantial lack of privacy, and after years of encountering such exposure to the public, his sole desire is to be left in peace. Despite this, during the opening years of his acting career, Arthur is desperate for his first glimpse of fame and wants to be famous (St. John Mandel, 110). As his career progresses, this desire begins to vanish due to his loss of personal privacy; largely due to the media. Arthur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These components have many different qualities that can ultimately be very beneficial for businesses or quite the contrary. By executing these qualities in a particular restaurant setting it is likely that the given company will prosper. For my application paper I will focus in on how customization and service quality can be improved specifically at Charley G s Restaurant in Lafayette, Louisiana. Charley G s Restaurant takes pride in having exceptional service. The staff is very accommodating to customers and do they do their best to provide phenomenal service. The restaurant is equipped with Point of Sales system which helps waiters quickly and efficiently send orders out to the kitchen which is very beneficial when it comes down to customizing particular orders. In fact, both the line cook and the saucier chef for the restaurant were both definitely in favor of using the technology. Jordan Causey, a line cook for Charley G s, commented You can type in specifically what each customer wants. It speeds up the ordering process tremendously because the orders are immediately sent to our kitchen staff (Causey). (See exhibit 1) Because the kitchen gets the orders in so quickly, it accelerates the entire cooking and service process immensely. Although we have come to the conclusion that the POS system is definitely an advantage to Charley G s, it also has one downfall, personal errors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence the scheme proves itself superior to the DC machine. The problem faced by FOC scheme is complexity in its implementation due to dependence of machine parameters, reference frame transformation. Later DTC was introduced. Direct torque control (DTC) method is used to control the torque (finally speed) in variable frequency drives of three phase AC electric motors. From the measured voltage and current of the motor an estimate of the motor s magnetic flux and torque is calculated. Integrating the stator voltages, stator flux linkage is estimated. Cross product of measured motor current vector and estimated stator flux linkage vector results in estimated torque. The estimated flux magnitude and torque are then compared with their reference values. If either the estimated flux or torque deviates from the reference more than allowed limits, the transistors of the variable frequency drive are turned OFF and ON in such a way that the flux and torque errors will return in their tolerant bands as fast as possible. Thus direct torque control is one form of the hysteresis control. The method requires only the stator resistance to estimate the stator flux and torque. The basic DTC scheme [1] consists of two comparators with specified bandwidth, switching table, voltage source inverter, flux and torque estimation block. Like every control method has some advantages and disadvantages, DTC method has too. Some of the advantages are lower parameters dependency, making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of all the poets in our course, WB Yeats is easily our favorite. His poetry has a dynamic quality. But what is more important is that it should present reality truthfully and defend human values artistically. It should envision a society where people can live a better life. Yeats did just that. The greatness of his poetry lies in the fact that it interprets the contemporary political events within the framework of a philosophical system. All the great poets speak of people and rise above the petty politics of their class. The cross the boundary of politics and enter into the realm of philosophy. Yeats too rose above the ephemerality of politics and made an attempt to achieve permanence in poetry by following the philosophical system. Being from an Anglo Irish family, he could have easily gone to the English side but what he chose was to represent the repressed Irish people. • 29. Personal Narrative On My Converse Navy blue with silver eyelets, no laces, a white toe cap, and a black racing stripe. What could be so special about a shoe? To a child, shoes are just something that you sport until your feet bust out of them, or until you wear holes into them. I was eight years old when my feet stopped growing, when I got my first pair of converse, and when my shoe obsession began. The first place I took my Converse was on the third grade trip to Camp Mary Orton. I was nervous about going somewhere new for an entire week, but my fresh out of the box shoes gave me the confidence to do anything. The muddy earth no longer daunted me and the idea of climbing a wooden pole named after a diaper company (the Pamper Pole) did not shake me. The thought of failing to scale a rock wall could not phase the confidence that my new shoes provided. If the shoes could walk me through the halls of the school, perfectly matching the plaid of my jumper, then I could handle whatever challenges camp threw at me. Two years of wear on the already faded blue created a dull black. I forgot about the color they had once been and began wearing them with everything. Occasionally, the scene will be interrupted by the sudden appearance of flashbulbs penetrating the smoky air. This not only lends a feeling of authenticity for the setting and time period, it also reflects the sudden outbursts of violence prevalent throughout the rest of the film. LaMotta himself is shrouded in his robe and shadows, making his face impossible to see, however his gloved fists are easily seen as he gracefully throws jabs and stalks the left side of the ring. This introduces his fists as a motif that is repeated throughout the film. For example, LaMotta sees his hands as being too small, later he abuses them against a cell wall, and most obviously are a symbol of his livelihood. His fists are a tool, which he uses to punish others, as well as himself. The scene cuts to a sign, in the middle of the screen, that reads An Evening with Jake LaMotta and the audience hears the voice of LaMotta for the first time, which will lead to the next scene. The use of the word evening signals the transition that is about to take place. The audience has seen LaMotta early in his career and now are about to witness him in his career s twilight.
