The opening scene sets the immoral tone for the entire movie when Sebastian humiliates his therapist's daughter with nude pictures of her posted on the
Internet (his reasoning: she was charging too much). He then admits that he is tired of sleeping with these "insipid debutantes" and wants a challenge
worthy of his talents. At the same time Kathryn is upset that her ex–boyfriend dumped her for a ditzy klutz named Cecile (Selma Blair), and wants
Sebastian to "pop her cherry," so to speak, to humiliate the boyfriend. As it turns out, this is nothing new for Sebastian, who has a reputation as a

This is shown with Diane and her father. Her father clearly does not have a clean conscience, yet he believes that his way is justified and correct.
Diane realizes that her father is misguided upon critical review of the situation. This disillusionment with old society –society established prior to the
newest generation– is very common in young people. They realize that the accepted normal is reprehensible and needs to change. Meanwhile, old
society has a difficult time seeing the flaws in their ways or changing. Jim Court is a symbol for all of old society, trying to justify his
transgressions and ultimately failing to change his ways as evidenced by the scene at the prison. Diane Court giving him the pen was symbolic of
her moving on into her own life, rejecting the ideas of old society. This idea is not only challenging old people to look at how set in their beliefs they
have become, but also challenging young people to make changes in their own lives so that they do not succumb to the problematic nature of the old

The Lovers, By Rachel Mcadams And Ryan Gosling

Sound familiar? The lovers are named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, also known as Duke. As young people, these characters are played by Rachel
McAdams and Ryan Gosling. These actors portray first loves and heartbreak that tugs on your heartstrings beautifully just wanting and waiting for
more.
Starting off the movie with a beautiful scene looking across a sunrise–filled lake, which it gives off a comfortable, warm feeling to the viewers at home
or in the theater. Then it pans out to an elder Noah Calhoun (played by James Garner) taking his daily medicine in a nursing home. Third scene
shows an also elderly Allie Hamilton (Gena Rowlands) looking over the lake from her bedroom window. A nurse is asking her several questions
about how she is feeling and what she would like to do that day. Allie doesn't give off any interest in doing anything the nurse is suggesting. Noah
enters her room with a notebook, offering to read to her. The nurse insists that Allie should do something else but Allie quickly accepts Noah's offer
and sits herself down to listen to him read from the notebook that which she wrote many years ago. This sets up the opening of the classic love story,
"The Notebook."
The setting goes between a summer in South Carolina in the 1940's with the young version of the lovers and present day time with the elderly version

Jim Jones And The Jonestown Massacre
On November 18th, 1978 what would become known as one of the most detrimental days for many families occurred. Formally known as The
People's Temple Agricultural Project or in short The People's Temple, a substantial amount of citizens, most if not all of them being American were led
by Jim Jones in a term coined by Jones himself, "Revolutionary Suicide". Nine hundred and nine lives were taken on that devastating day (McGehee).
Jones used powerful methods of persuasion to gather nearly one thousand members of the People's Temple to migrate to Guyana in South America to
form the settlement known as Jonestown. It is believed that Jim Jones chose the secluded location of Guyana for the purpose of containing the
citizens so they could not flee their new formed society. Jones was for many of the members of Jonestown a father figure as most of the children on
the settlement called Jones father. The message behind Jones' society was acceptance, equality, and a sense of belonging in the world. The mass
suicide that occurred on November 18th, 1978 will later be known as The Jonestown Massacre. Jim Jones founded the People's Temple in the 1950's.
Jones feared a nuclear Holocaust and persuaded his congregation to relocate to California. Although his first congregation was a mainstream church,
Jones did not believe in God (Pick–Jones). The use of churches in Jones mission was just to help his cult grow. Jones is quoted, "He found it hard to

Jim Jones did a lot that seemed good in his life (Merlot). He worked with people of all different backgrounds to make their lives better and wanted to
solve social problems. He spoke against the racist stereotype of the white man and towards the new idea of a united racial group. Jones also did a lot of
bad in his life. Jim Jones was the craziest religious fanatic to live during the 20th century because he brainwashed most of his followers, abused his
power, and led the largest mass murder for that decade in a single event. Jones was born to a poor family in 1931 in Crete, Indiana. His father was an
alcoholic who had trouble keeping a job and a racist who associated with the KKK. Jim Jones' cruelty was seen in his childhood (McCormick Maaga).

loyalty. Jim Jones would even fake heart attacks or act like he was getting shot during the White Night events to see who would try to help him, and
who would run. Deborah Layton Blakey lived in Jonestown for a few months before leaving in the spring of 1978. After Blakey escaped she
attempted to get government officials involved in the problems going on in Jonestown, with little success. Blakey described the suicide plans in an
interview "We were informed that our situation had become hopeless and that the only course of action open to us was a mass–suicide for the glory of
socialism. We were told that we would be tortured by mercenaries– were we taken alive. Everyone, including the children was told to line up. As we
passed through the lines, we were given a small glass of red liquid to drink. We were told that the liquid contained poison and that we would die
within 45 minutes. We all did as we were told." (Ulman & Abse 1983, 653).
