Business Process Redesign or Reengineering
Business Process Redesign or Reengineering
Business Process Redesign (BPR) or Reengineering is "the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to achieve dramatic
improvements in critical, contemporary measures of performance, such as cost, quality, service, and speed" (Hammer and Champy, Reengineering).
Since the BPR idea has surfaced it has been under constant ridicule by the popular press.
They say it takes far too long, creates management headaches, fails 70% of the time, and it's only for big companies with big checkbooks (Hydrel...).
However,
I feel that with the right plan, the right people, and total commitment from those involved, BPR or Reengineering can work for any company.

However, this idea didn't last long due to the overwhelming number of replies from the "Ideas To Bank On," which was a suggestion box. And TCB
was forced to create about 180 process teams. Which included senior managers, process managers, team leaders, and about 1,800 employees (Betting...).
This move, however, caused a bit of turmoil in the whole process due to he fact that, many employees weren't use to works in groups. And
eventually led to the redesign phase, one that went to drastic measures and wiped the slate clean. This time, however, the bank knew what it had to
do. So this time TCB moved quickly through the process, and it led to quick results. They began by redesigning the bank's lines, question certain
products, eliminated processes, and apply newer technologies. And finally a blue print emerged. Which included narrative descriptions of processes,
new flowcharts, all projects cost/benefit analyses, and the implementation of strategies. The benefits of this process were significant: 16,000 ideas,
1005 projects, 1,100 positions to be terminated, and $43M in reduced expenses (Betting...). So now that a new plan is in place TCB has taken the
appropriate steps to keep them in working order. The 1,005 recommendations have been assigned to teams within the line of business. Formal project
plans for each team are developed and gathered weekly and are loaded into a database for tracking by other interdependencies

into, they will sell those shares and make the investment in some other company or investment opportunity. This loss of confidence would cause Dell
Computer to have to make up that working capital in other ways such as cutting staff or looking for ways to cut spending. On the other hand, if an
investor feels confident that his or her investment would bring them the returns that they desire from Dell, it would infuse Dell with additional working
capital to bring

Define and describe the implementation phase and illustrate with an example.
The implementation phase is where all relevant steps and processes are carried out in order to put a planned system into action. Once installed software
is tested and reviewed to make sure the selected solutions are addressing the organisations requirements. Implementation is affected by multiple factors
like the context of the organisation; its size, the roll out plan and current structures just to name a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without a clear understanding of the organisation and systems contextual factors an implementation plan can be ineffective and waste valuable
resources.
Two examples of contextual factors are:
Company Size: Company size will dictate many areas of system implementation, Larger companies can afford to vast numbers of workers learning
how to use new systems at a given time while they are installed at their work stations without losing a significant amount of productivity. On the other
hand smaller companies of fewer than 30 employees cant afford to have large numbers of workers out learning how to use a system, they would need a
more precise implementation plan so that the business can maintain an acceptable level of productivity.
Technological maturity: Technological maturity refers to whether systems which are to be implemented are first gen which totally new and little
testing and reference from how other companies or second third and so forth. Later generations are more viable as there are more likely to be other
companies which can give accurate reviews and vouch for the quality of service. This contextual factor ties back to the company size where small
companies cant afford to use untested systems as they may not have the finances available to keep changing around.

In a call centre environment, when the customer logs a call for a IT issue, the calling department will answer his call and log the case. He will
then be transferred to the technical department who will assist him with 1st level troubleshooting. In the event he cannot solve the problem, the
matter will be escalated to a level 2 support and also a product specialist. After his issue has been resolved, he will be transferred to the payment
department where he will pay for the IT services he has used. After making payment, he will receive an email from the feedback department where
they will ask the customer for feedback for the case. This slows down the entire process of resolving the problem from end to end. One of the main
goal in BPR is to optimize the processes that takes place within the organization and reduce lead time. In order to do so, businesses has to look at its
processes from a clean state perspective. For a company to be able to streamline their processes, they have to add value to their customers through their
processes. Processes should maintain its ability to add value to customers. For those processes that do not, we can automate them and put the focus on
adding value. This will result in higher customer satisfaction, better efficiency, elimination of watse and greater ROI(Park, 2008). BPR Methodologies

The Business Process Model
Business Process Model
Business Process Model is a set of technologies and standards for the design, execution, administration, and monitoring of business processes. (Havey
2005)
There are some benefits for using a process model. Firstly, it can improve process communication. To succeed in a business, members of a firm
should have a distinct idea of the daily tasks. For example, who is the one to bring the products of CMP to major distributors and how the products
brought to the market. A clear communication is important in operation. It can help members of CMP to understand their ideas clearly and quickly.
This will improve business processes and also increase productivity of members when they are doing their work.
Furthermore, process model also helps in consistency. Consistency is one of the keys to succeed in business. Such as, implement process in consistent
manner and then give the documented process to the members so they can remember to do the right thing. This can help our company to make better
decisions and we can have the business rule documented down to avoid further confusion. For instance, members of CMP can resolve problem in a

The process simulation of business process model is an essential tool for us to ensure that the processes are optimized. It allows us to understand the
process flows and can help us in identifying the weaknesses in process for improvement. It can also reduce our process cycle time and increases
productivity of resources and members that can allow CMP to produce more product than before. Hence improving operational efficiencies is important
to CMP. As a manufacturing company, it can helps in ensuring a smooth operation, increase product output, bring the products to market to the
potential buyers and in turn increase the company's

Improving Efficiency with Business Process Modeling
In order for businesses to be successful, they must find out what the customer wants and meet that need. This can be difficult when dealing with the
ever–evolving trends of today's society. Businesses must remain flexible and constantly be experimenting with new technology and ideas to better
provide their services to the customer. To help accomplish this goal,Business Process Modeling can be used to provide a solution, to help refine and
organize business processes, which may in return make the business more efficient.
A key feature of any successful business is how the business provides its services to customers. This is often done through business processes, a
collection of organized tasks or activities that are intended to accomplish a specific goal. (Pittarese, 2014) These tasks may encompass different
functional areas and are designed to "create value for the customer."(Pittarese, 2014) Though a business is successful and may have been around for
quite some time, they often find the need to update their business processes, in order to keep up with customer demands, technological advances, and
to improve efficiency within their company. One way of doing this could be through business process modeling, a tool used by businesses to create a
diagram of the various business processes and actions that are carried out within a company.
In order to create a business process model, a business must first identify and create the current business process model, which is

Business Process Reengineering
Q. Describe each of the four kinds of organizational change that can be promoted with information technology. What is business process reengineering?
What steps are required to make it effective? How does it differ from business process management? Explain with example.
In an organization, there are major risks and uncertainties in systems development that need to be addressed by the management. Determining when
new systems and business processes can have the greatest impact is involved in these challenges. This may be the reasons why organizational change
and development is becoming a common scenario to talk about involving management, organizations, business, and leadership. With the fast–changing

Retailers and recording stars were rebelling––it took the company as much as 20 days to deliver a big order for a hit CD, and then nearly 20% of the
order would be missing. Small, incremental improvements would not have been adequate, so the company reengineered its entire distribution process
with dramatic effects on on–time delivery and order fill rates. In business process reengineering, the organization can develop the business vision and
process objective. It can identify the processes to be redesigned (core and highest payback) and understand and measure the performance of existing
processes. It can also identify the opportunities for applying information technology and build a prototype of the new process.
PARADIGM SHIFT It is about changing the very nature of the business and the structure of the organization itself, whole new products or services
that didn 't even exist before. In other words, paradigm shifts deals with major disruption and extreme change. Paradigm is a complete mental model of
how a complex system works or functions. In other words, a paradigm shift involves rethinking the nature of the business and the organization. It is a
complete re–conception of how the systems should function. For example, higher education is undergoing a major paradigm shift in the online

To make matters even more confusing, there are those within the Business Analyst community who have begun to distinguish between business
analysts who focus on defining software requirements and those business analysts who are focused on improving business processes. SAP, for
example, has set up a website1 for Business Process eXperts (BPXs), a group of analysts with more extensive business process capabilities.
This vagueness between BA and BPM roles creates confusion in practice and academia, which impacts on role designs, skills assessment, human
resource development, recruitment and professional development. The impact of such was made clear at a Leonardo Process Days 2010 conference
panel where BA and BPM role differentiation was reviewed. An outcome of this discussion was a consensus that i) Practitioners struggle to recognise
and articulate the skills required (BA, BPM or both?) for various organisational initiatives and how to locate appropriate talent to fill these roles ii)
Academics fail to position BA and BPM as separate professions and often bundle them as the same in their course descriptions and marketing iii)
Students and prospective candidates for employment vacancies therefore remain confused about the specific skill sets required of a BPM professional

Business Process Of A Business
ABSTRACT
"Re–building is the crucial reevaluating and radical overhaul of business methods to attain emotional upgrades in discriminating, contemporary
measures of execution, for example, cost, quality and pace" (Hammer & Champy–1993). Re–designing concentrates on the association 's business
forms. Business Process Reengineering is the methodology of looking into how function is carried out in distinctive levels of an association and
considering how to enhance things. The primary disadvantage is that there is no structural methodology for BPR. This paper give an audit of BPR

BPR concentrates on methods and not on undertakings, occupations or individuals. It attempts to update the key and quality included procedures that
rise above hierarchical limits.
2. BACKGROUND TO BPR
The thought of reengineering an association is not so much new, yet the advancement of reengineering as a current idea for business got from a 1990
article by MIT teacher Michael Hammer. Michael Hammer characterizes business methodology reengineering in his book Re–engineering the
Corporation as major reevaluating and radical upgrade of business procedures to realize emotional upgrades in execution. By the early years of the
1990s, organizations around the United States were receiving reengineering as a valuable change process. Reengineering remains a successful
instrument for associations striving to work as successfully and proficiently as could be expected under the circumstances.
3. THE BENEFIT OF BPR ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE
Business Process Reengineering is the way to changing how individuals work. The two foundations of any association are the individuals and the
courses of action. Reengineering an association offers various profits for general benefit. The reengineering procedure distinguishes components of an
association that are making expenses with few advantages and makes fundamental changes. At times, these conformities are changes to the way a
division works together; in different cases, these

Essential Need For Business Process Reengineering
This essay will discuss the essential need for Business Process Reengineering (BPR) to be included in the success of an ERP implementation,
specifically the role of, steps needed, and results of the BPR. Businesses are often siloes in their functional establishment, but the organization as a
whole needs to operate across these functional areas in order to serve the processes of the organization. Management within functional areas are more
interested in the measures of success within their functional control, but this leads to issues across the organization with communication and a
breakdown of efficiency and customer satisfaction. BPR will look to dissect these silos and implement more cross functional processes that run the
length of the company's value stream. Rather than a narrow view of the processes within sales, services, manufacturing etc., the organization may want
to address the quote to cash process that takes you from the initial quote to a customer, through the sales order, manufacturing/procurement, fulfillment
/shipping, invoicing to receiving to the cash payment. How does one measure success, part of the reason for BPR is to restructure in order to better
measure success. In this event you can establish key performance indicators that will help track, validate, and measure a specific cycle time through
multiple functional areas. Positive side effects will be to increase the communications and collaboration of individuals since they are all tied to the

The latter orientation is one where real value may be added for the enterprise. Definitions of the term business process vary, but most researchers
suggest that it comprises a number of interrelated activities that cut across functional boundaries in the delivery of an output (Bevilacqua & Thomhill,
1992; Davenport & Short, 1990; Thomas, 1994). The looseness of this type of definition has led to significant variations in establishing the number of
processes in a business. For example, Thomas (1994) cites the case of one large bank which estimated that it had three core processes while another
reckoned it had seventeen. In the past, information technology has been applied to help improve business operations. However, the technology has
generally been applied as part of process rationalisation, that is, the primary motivation behind the use of technology is to automate or expedite existing
manual processes, and the processes themselves have been largely left intact. The futility of this approach has been bluntly summarised by Drucker
(1986) in his declaration: "there is nothing more useless than to do efficiently that which shouldn 't be done at all". The application of information
technology has resulted in incremental gains, but this is still a long way short of the dramatic 10–fold improvement that has been identified as
necessary. Also, the incremental benefits

Introduction
"I think that this is the work of angels. In a world where so many people are so deprived, it 's a sin to be so inefficient." This is what Dr. Michael
Hammer had to say when discussing his 1990s breakthrough business process reengineering idea (The Economist). As defined by Dr. Hammer himself,
reengineering is to "use the power of modern information technology to radically redesign our business processes in order to achieve dramatic
improvements in their performance.(HARVARD BUS REV)" The theme of my Management and Leadership class at Concordia is innovation and it
enhanced my desire to learn about different innovative techniques in the business setting. We have oft discussed that if a business doesn't innovate then
it will go extinct (Daft and Marcic 311). Business process reengineering is one of the most influential business change movements of all time and it has
been mired in controversy and shaken up the business world with both positive and negative contributions

The costs and the benefits should be determined by the team responsible for the implementation of the new system. This information will then need to
be used in order to perform a robust feasibility study.
A feasibility study will need to take into consideration the different forms of feasibility that are associated with the project. Legal, human resource,
economic, technological and operational factors should all be considerations in the feasibility study (Shelley, Cashman & Rosenblatt, 2003). At the
conclusion of the study, the costs and benefits for the organization as well as resource requirements and which subject matter experts should play roles

Business Process and Lean Six Sigma
Know What Counts. Measure What Matters. Deliver Results. Lean Six Sigma and the Quest for Continuous Improvement.
What if you could make innovation an integral part of your process? No one argues against continuous improvement. The concept of improving
results and performance on a continual basis is universally hailed as a great idea. Doing it is another matter. First off, in order to improve
continuously, you have to improve initially. Sometimes it's easy to see the flaws. Most of the time, it's not. That's why business results are often a
mixed bag: two steps forward, one step back, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Simply stated, the goal is better, then better still.

Application Of A Business Process Modeling
Abstract– BPM is typically performed by business analysts, who provide expertise in the modeling discipline. Every business requires some form of
investment and enough customers to whom its output can be sold on a consistent basis in order to make a profit. A series of action or steps to be
taken in order to achieve a particular end. Business process modeling enables a common understanding and analysis of a business process. A process
model can provide a comprehensive understanding of a process. An enterprise can be analyzed and integrated through its business processes. Hence
the importance of correctly modeling its business processes. Business analysts can use IBM Blueworks Live to denote milestones at various points in
the process life cycle, including the point at which the process is ready to be implemented in IBM BPM. IBM Blueworks Live is a cloud–based
business process modeler, belonging under the set of IBM SmartCloud applications. The application is designed to help organizations discover and

Strategy
MAK consultants understand that Dynatrix lacks a clearly defined strategy that drives the organisation. As such, actions should be taken to outline the
goals and objectives of Dynatrix so every member of the organisation knows exactly what they are working toward namely through a "vision
statement". A vision statement encapsulates this idea of the shared values and beliefs held within Dynatrix that drives the firm to achieve one common
goal.
Strategic Positioning
Everything should begin with a corporate strategy. "Quality and customer responsiveness" are two value propositions emphasized in Dynatrix's current
strategy. Value proposition is "the value that a product or service provides to customers". (Harmon, 2007) In the case of Dynatrix it can potentially be
the accessories of the hand held device, not the hand held device itself which can provide the platform for their strategic position. Thus Dynatrix needs
to develop a positioning strategy to target customer's needs. Treacy and Wiersema's three generic positioning strategies distinguish between three value
propositions pertaining to customer needs:

BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT –APPROACH & CHALLANGES
INTRODUCTION
Business process improvement initiatives prove to be some of the toughest projects for project managers. This is for a number of reasons, including:
Most such projects affect the entire business, and it takes a significant amount of time to understand those affects
There are many "moving parts" and trying to get the right resources secured for the project at the right time is frequently difficult to accomplish
Some project managers can't get past the fact that the process improvement initiative is an actual project and not an operation
The work of the business must keep moving forward even with changes in processes

What Exactly Is a Process?
A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In short, a process is a process, no matter how large or small. It is important to note the following key points.
Many ITS processes exist and each maps in some way to a service provided to either an internal or external ITS customer.
Processes often have touch points, and there are potential implications for customers when issues with one process impacts the processes that touch it.
Why Improve a Process?
Process improvement refers to making a process more effective, efficient, or transparent. Process improvement is relevant to all ITS areas because
processes naturally degrade over time for any number of reasons. An organization that conducts process improvement focuses on proactive problem
resolution in order to avoid operating in crisis management mode when process degradation occurs. Process improvement helps an organization:
View process value through the eyes of the customer;
Define, manage, and measure a process in order to regularly evaluate it using data–driven information;
Break down process silos by contributing to an understanding of how processes interact and impact one another and customers;
Reduce unnecessary business costs.
Process improvement at ITS does not place blame for process degradation. The primary goal is to identify and understand issues in order to recognize
solutions and implement improvements to stay aligned with customer needs and expectations.

Understanding The Business Process Change
Understanding Business Process Change
To speak intelligently about the importance of understanding business process change as it relates to employment, it is important to define what
business process change means. In the simplest of terms, business process change is a modification to a company's existing business process. This
process could be manual, automated or both. The goal of such changes are to improve the performance and productivity of a company. Advances in
technology and globalization are two of the major drivers behind the increased popularity of business process change. "Change and relentless
competition calls for constant innovation and for constant increases in productivity... both call for an intense focus on how work gets ... Show more

After reviewing the videos, I realized that these changes could affect my department but did not realize to what extent. Had I fully understood the
ramifications of these changes, could I have taken a few precautions? Possible but there is no guarantee. Concerning future employment plans, I hope
to be on the positive end of any upcoming business process changes be it formal or informal.
Organizational change: Formal or Informal
In terms of organizational change, business process changes is a part of the overall process. It also includes reviewing and modifying management
structures. Therefore, it is understandable why the term "organizational change" is often synonymous with the term organizational structure. Moreover,
organizations have both a formal or informal structure. In today's evolving business environment, globalization, technological advances, changing
consumer demand, economic conditions and competition are significant drivers that change how businesses operate. Characteristic organizational
change can include three main stages: establishing the need for the change, implementation of said change and monitoring the change. Regardless of
the scope and impact of the organizational change, the need for formal process changes are key to effective organizational change.

The Business Process Reengineering ( Bpr )
Business Process Reengineering (BPR) can be defined as the optimization of end to end processes, and transform the manual tasks to automation
through analysis the data and restructure of workflows between and within the organizations or enterprises. The BPR comprises improvement in
critical areas such business functions, service, quality and time response via in–depth use of Information Technology. InBusiness Process Improvement
(BPI), the process of an organization is improved by identifying the specific operations skills or a group of employees' skills in order to have more
efficient workflows, as well as overall business growth. The Business Process Reengineering (BPR) strategy becomes more radical, lengthy, difficult
and vast for many organizations. The BPI strategy is less radical, less lengthy, less disruptive and more incremental approach. The process is also
known as functional process improvement. Taco Bell is a Fast Food company in USA, had difficulty to survive on severe competition in the market.
While expanding their business, they were facing problem to increase and retain customer's relationship and satisfaction. The company had several

Disadvantages of Business Process Outsourcing Essay
In the recent decade, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has become a usual business phenomenon from a new business strategy in the bank
industry around the world. Banks are increasingly outsourcing more activities to third parties and relying more heavily on vendors now more than
ever before. (Deloitte, 2012) The Swiss bank UBS is not an exception. Since UBS set up the UBS India Service Centre in Hyderabad in 2006, parts of
its back–office and middle–office functions have been outsourced to lower–cost places during the following years, such as India, China, Philippine and
Poland. Most recent news says that UBS will begin outsourcing its fixed income trading platform to two technology groups in an attempt to save costs.
(Reuters, 2014) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
BPO that is contracted outside a company's country is called offshore outsourcing (Tas, J. & Sunder, S. , 2004)
Offshore outsourcing represents one aspect of how globalization is occurring in the current economies. Globalization is the interdependency of
transportation, distribution, communication, and economic networks across international borders. (Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly, Konopaske, 2009) It
means that the labor supply market is globalized and that cross–cultural management can become essential and more important than ever before.
BPO is not simply moving jobs to a distant country and starting saving cost right away. BPO in the banking industry requires bank to provide on–site
training, which normally takes from three months to a full year. (Overby, 2003) The training is a knowledge transfer process from one organization to
another, which is necessary and critical to make sure the work can be transferred from onshore to offshore people smoothly. It's a significant stage of
outsourcing implementation, which may determine outsourcing will be a success or not.
Below case shows how the offshore outsourcing is occurring during the implementation stage.
Team A is UBS investment banking operations located in UK. It is planed to be offshore outsourced to an external company located in a foreign
country. A team of offshore workers came to UK and started to learn tasks sitting beside their onshore partners

Business Process Description Is A Map
V.APPROACH TO BPMN Business process description is a map that helps us to navigate through our business activities. Using a map for
navigation is quite normal in many activities, e.g., it is a must when we need to move something or be moved ourselves from one place to another.
We have different maps for navigating in the physical space, marine maps, road maps, hiking maps, etc. The choice of a map depends on what we
want to move, where and by what means. If we travel by car we need a road map, if we travel on foot in a mountain area, we need a hiking map.
What is more, we may need several different types of maps, in case of emergency. For example, a simplified road map that shows how to get from
one point to another will not help if we make a wrong turn somewhere on the way. We will need a detailed road map to get back to our initial course.

functionally structured and processes are not identified, it is suitable to use input/output view (for example, IDEF0), or agent–related view (for
example, RAD). Input/output view suit mostly organizations that have formal ways of internal communications via some objects, like documents,
files, etc. Then the processes can be discovered by following the movement of these objects inside the organization. Agent–related view suit mostly

The Success Of An Organization Or Business Process
Are you tired of smiling and nodding when someone talks about these concepts because you "sort of get what they are but not really?"
You're not alone.
Those of us in the industry who live and breathe this stuff meet people every day who have no idea what we do and why it's important to the success
of an organization or business.
Q. OK, so what is a Business Process?
A. Pretty much everything you do at work.
It's true! Everything is a process, whether you know it or not. It can be formally documented or just live in the experience and know–how of your
employees, but trust us – there are processes all around you.
Think of it this way.
A process can be defined as a series of actions or steps that are undertaken in order to achieve a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grab keys, briefcase, and coat.
When we say "business" process, we are referring to processes that happen every day at work in order to achieve a specific outcome. Do these sound
familiar? What steps do you think apply to each?
Recruitment
Performance evaluations
Customer service
Strategic planning
Approvals
Each of these processes (and dozens of others) happens every single day in most businesses, and if you're lucky, they are smooth and efficient and
wonderful and everything goes well all of the time and all your employees and customers are happy with them.
Q. So Business Process Improvement then, is just making things run more smoothly at work?
A. Yes! It's also about making those improvements with a specific end in mind:
Improving customer satisfaction,
Making employees happier,
Improving efficiency (getting more done, and with less resources)
Saving time, and/or
Improving the bottom line.
When we undertake business process improvement, we do so because something is wrong, and we have noticed a trigger of some sort.
Q.What sort of trigger?
A. It could be so many things. Let's use an example to illustrate.
Let's talk about your car. If you don't own a car, just pretend you do (and since you're pretending, you can make it the car of your dreams while you're
at it. Go ahead and get fancy!)
Driving your car is a process:
Unlock doors.
Sit in driver's seat.
Put key in ignition.
Start car.
Check mirrors.
Place foot on brake.
Put car in gear.
Check mirrors again.

In 1990, Michael Hammer, a former professor of computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), published an article in the
Harvard Business Review, in which he claimed that the major challenge for managers is to obliterate non–value adding work, rather than using
technology for automating it.[2] This statement implicitly accused managers of having focused on the wrong issues, namely that technology in
general, and more specifically information technology, has been used primarily for automating existing processes rather than using it as an enabler for
making non–value adding work obsolete. Hammer's claim was simple: Most of the work being done does not add any value for customers, and this
work should be removed, not accelerated through automation. Instead, companies should reconsider their processes in order to maximize customer
value, while minimizing the consumption of resources required for delivering their product or service. A similar idea was advocated by Thomas H.

Feasibility And Benefits Of Business Process Outsourcing...
Research Report
Introduction–
The research topic is to find the feasibility and the benefits of Business process outsourcing and Knowledge process outsourcing, in India.
The research is planned to be conducted keeping Indian market in perspective, which is why one of the booming industries 'Outsourcing units' has been
chosen, to complete the research on. India has come out to be major player in the outsourcing business since past a few years. (Ahmedabad)
Outsourcing the business is in trend as it helps the company to cut the operational cost. It basically means the multinational companies handing over of
their task like sales or collections, to another company on a target basis payment contract. This creates a win– win situation for both the companies as
former one gets to save a lot of time, money and energy and the latter gets the business. India specifically is benefitted because of several reasons as a
huge population of economical and effective labour resides in the country. India stands the second highest in possessing the english–speaking and
computer friendly population. (Ahmedabad)
Typically, the business that is passed over to the business processing outsourcing units is the non–core activities of the multinational companies. This
research will be done keeping the Indian market in mind, which is why most of the references taken to make this literature review are done keeping
Indian industry in mind. Also it has been made sure, that most of the data used to make

Definition Of A Business Process
Introduction In order to achieve their goals, processes are used in accomplished organizations to complete the work needed. Organizations that adopt
the process view can be very successful if used appropriately. The next few pages will define a business process, and explain the advantages of
adopting this kind of organizational view.
Definition of a business process: A business process is an action or a set of actions completed in a particular order that will complete a given
organizational task. In most cases, these tasks, accomplish their goal by delivering products or services to a customer. Throughout the process, a
number of participants are involved, such as passive or active. Process participants, which are produced, consumed, or changed, are considered to be
passive. For example, computer assembly, software development, reorganizing departments, or treating patients in the hospital. On the other hand,
processes geared towards the passive participants, such as workers, machines, etc., are said to be active participants (www.appian.com, n.d.). A
business process can be compared to a road map, which helps an organization navigate through their business activities. They help them understand
where they currently stand, where they need to get to, where they came from, and how they ended up where they are. They can guide an organization
along their path, pinpointing any hazards along the way. Depending on the focus of the observer, there are four different views a

Hammer and Champy provide the following definitions: Гј Reengineering is the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to
achieve dramatic improvements in critical contemporary measures of performance such as cost, quality, service and speed. Гј Process is a structured,
measured set of activities designed to produce a specified output for a particular customer or market. It implies a strong emphasis on how work is

An example of a business process: Credit card approval in a bank.
An applicant submits an application. The application is reviewed first to make sure that the form has been completed properly. If not, it is returned
for completion. The complete form goes through a verification of information. This is done by ordering a report from a credit company and calling

Business Process Redesign Or Reengineering

  • 1. Business Process Redesign or Reengineering Business Process Redesign or Reengineering Business Process Redesign (BPR) or Reengineering is "the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to achieve dramatic improvements in critical, contemporary measures of performance, such as cost, quality, service, and speed" (Hammer and Champy, Reengineering). Since the BPR idea has surfaced it has been under constant ridicule by the popular press. They say it takes far too long, creates management headaches, fails 70% of the time, and it's only for big companies with big checkbooks (Hydrel...). However, I feel that with the right plan, the right people, and total commitment from those involved, BPR or Reengineering can work for any company. The Hydrel Experience A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this idea didn't last long due to the overwhelming number of replies from the "Ideas To Bank On," which was a suggestion box. And TCB was forced to create about 180 process teams. Which included senior managers, process managers, team leaders, and about 1,800 employees (Betting...). This move, however, caused a bit of turmoil in the whole process due to he fact that, many employees weren't use to works in groups. And eventually led to the redesign phase, one that went to drastic measures and wiped the slate clean. This time, however, the bank knew what it had to do. So this time TCB moved quickly through the process, and it led to quick results. They began by redesigning the bank's lines, question certain products, eliminated processes, and apply newer technologies. And finally a blue print emerged. Which included narrative descriptions of processes, new flowcharts, all projects cost/benefit analyses, and the implementation of strategies. The benefits of this process were significant: 16,000 ideas, 1005 projects, 1,100 positions to be terminated, and $43M in reduced expenses (Betting...). So now that a new plan is in place TCB has taken the appropriate steps to keep them in working order. The 1,005 recommendations have been assigned to teams within the line of business. Formal project plans for each team are developed and gathered weekly and are loaded into a database for tracking by other interdependencies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business Process Analysis BUSINESS PROCESS ANALYSIS AND MEASUREMENT PAPER Business Process Analysis and Measurement Paper Business Process Analysis and Measurement Paper Within the successful planning and execution of every prominent business today is the underlying factor of operational management. Although in the early terms most companies that focused on this area were manufacturing companies, this innovative idea has struck cords into service and retail. From creating software to computers Dell has risen in the last 20 plus years to become one of the worlds leading technological innovators. In 2006 Dell achieved a pivotal goal and was named on the list of the Fortune 500 a coveted seat among all businesses. How does Dell achieve such staying power?... Their decisions affect shareholders' decisions to invest in the company, suppliers being willing to provide products or services to Dell and customers' willingness to purchase their desktops, laptops, PDA's or other electronic equipment and software from Dell. Pearce and Robinson (2005), tell of Dell's innovation in this manner, "Dell Computer built its first 10 years of unprecedented growth by creating an organization capable of the speedy and inexpensive manufacture and delivery of custom–built PCs. Gateway and Micron have attempted to copy Dell for most of that time but remain far behind Dell's diverse organizational capabilities" (p. 151). Shareholders Face it, shareholders are after one thing and one thing only, returns on his or her investments. Preferably, they want big returns. If a shareholder loses confidence in the company that he or she has invested their dollars into, they will sell those shares and make the investment in some other company or investment opportunity. This loss of confidence would cause Dell Computer to have to make up that working capital in other ways such as cutting staff or looking for ways to cut spending. On the other hand, if an investor feels confident that his or her investment would bring them the returns that they desire from Dell, it would infuse Dell with additional working capital to bring ... The implementation phase is where all relevant steps and processes are carried out in order to put a planned system into action. Without a clear understanding of the organisation and systems contextual factors an implementation plan can be ineffective and waste valuable resources. Two examples of contextual factors are: Company Size: Company size will dictate many areas of system implementation, Larger companies can afford to vast numbers of workers learning how to use new systems at a given time while they are installed at their work stations without losing a significant amount of productivity. On the other hand smaller companies of fewer than 30 employees cant afford to have large numbers of workers out learning how to use a system, they would need a more precise implementation plan so that the business can maintain an acceptable level of productivity. Technological maturity: Technological maturity refers to whether systems which are to be implemented are first gen which totally new and little testing and reference from how other companies or second third and so forth. Later generations are more viable as there are more likely to be other companies which can give accurate reviews and vouch for the quality of service. This contextual factor ties back to the company size where small companies cant afford to use untested systems as they may not have the finances available to keep changing around.

In a call centre environment, when the customer logs a call for a IT issue, the calling department will answer his call and log the case. He will then be transferred to the technical department who will assist him with 1st level troubleshooting. After his issue has been resolved, he will be transferred to the payment department where he will pay for the IT services he has used. After making payment, he will receive an email from the feedback department where they will ask the customer for feedback for the case. In order to do so, businesses has to look at its processes from a clean state perspective. For a company to be able to streamline their processes, they have to add value to their customers through their processes. Processes should maintain its ability to add value to customers. For those processes that do not, we can automate them and put the focus on adding value. (Pittarese, 2014) These tasks may encompass different functional areas and are designed to "create value for the customer."(Pittarese, 2014) Though a business is successful and may have been around for quite some time, they often find the need to update their business processes, in order to keep up with customer demands, technological advances, and to improve efficiency within their company. One way of doing this could be through business process modeling, a tool used by businesses to create a diagram of the various business processes and actions that are carried out within a company. Small, incremental improvements would not have been adequate, so the company reengineered its entire distribution process with dramatic effects on on–time delivery and order fill rates. In business process reengineering, the organization can develop the business vision and process objective. It can identify the processes to be redesigned (core and highest payback) and understand and measure the performance of existing processes. It can also identify the opportunities for applying information technology and build a prototype of the new process. This vagueness between BA and BPM roles creates confusion in practice and academia, which impacts on role designs, skills assessment, human resource development, recruitment and professional development. The impact of such was made clear at a Leonardo Process Days 2010 conference panel where BA and BPM role differentiation was reviewed. An outcome of this discussion was a consensus that i) Practitioners struggle to recognise and articulate the skills required (BA, BPM or both?) for various organisational initiatives and how to locate appropriate talent to fill these roles ii) Academics fail to position BA and BPM as separate professions and often bundle them as the same in their course descriptions and marketing iii) Students and prospective candidates for employment vacancies therefore remain confused about the specific skill sets required of a BPM professional a nd/ or a Business Analyst. • 13. Essential Need For Business Process Reengineering This essay will discuss the essential need for Business Process Reengineering (BPR) to be included in the success of an ERP implementation, specifically the role of, steps needed, and results of the BPR. Businesses are often siloes in their functional establishment, but the organization as a whole needs to operate across these functional areas in order to serve the processes of the organization. Management within functional areas are more interested in the measures of success within their functional control, but this leads to issues across the organization with communication and a breakdown of efficiency and customer satisfaction. BPR will look to dissect these silos and implement more cross functional processes that run the length of the company's value stream. Rather than a narrow view of the processes within sales, services, manufacturing etc., the organization may want to address the quote to cash process that takes you from the initial quote to a customer, through the sales order, manufacturing/procurement, fulfillment /shipping, invoicing to receiving to the cash payment. How does one measure success, part of the reason for BPR is to restructure in order to better measure success. In this event you can establish key performance indicators that will help track, validate, and measure a specific cycle time through multiple functional areas. Positive side effects will be to increase the communications and collaboration of individuals since they are all tied to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The latter orientation is one where real value may be added for the enterprise. Definitions of the term business process vary, but most researchers suggest that it comprises a number of interrelated activities that cut across functional boundaries in the delivery of an output (Bevilacqua & Thomhill, 1992; Davenport & Short, 1990; Thomas, 1994). The looseness of this type of definition has led to significant variations in establishing the number of processes in a business. For example, Thomas (1994) cites the case of one large bank which estimated that it had three core processes while another reckoned it had seventeen. In the past, information technology has been applied to help improve business operations. However, the technology has generally been applied as part of process rationalisation, that is, the primary motivation behind the use of technology is to automate or expedite existing manual processes, and the processes themselves have been largely left intact. The futility of this approach has been bluntly summarised by Drucker (1986) in his declaration: "there is nothing more useless than to do efficiently that which shouldn 't be done at all". • 35. Disadvantages of Business Process Outsourcing Essay In the recent decade, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has become a usual business phenomenon from a new business strategy in the bank industry around the world. Banks are increasingly outsourcing more activities to third parties and relying more heavily on vendors now more than ever before. (Deloitte, 2012) The Swiss bank UBS is not an exception. Since UBS set up the UBS India Service Centre in Hyderabad in 2006, parts of its back–office and middle–office functions have been outsourced to lower–cost places during the following years, such as India, China, Philippine and Poland. Most recent news says that UBS will begin outsourcing its fixed income trading platform to two technology groups in an attempt to save costs. (Reuters, 2014) ... BPO that is contracted outside a company's country is called offshore outsourcing (Tas, J. & Sunder, S. , 2004) Offshore outsourcing represents one aspect of how globalization is occurring in the current economies. Globalization is the interdependency of transportation, distribution, communication, and economic networks across international borders. (Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly, Konopaske, 2009) It means that the labor supply market is globalized and that cross–cultural management can become essential and more important than ever before. BPO is not simply moving jobs to a distant country and starting saving cost right away. BPO in the banking industry requires bank to provide on–site training, which normally takes from three months to a full year. (Overby, 2003) The training is a knowledge transfer process from one organization to another, which is necessary and critical to make sure the work can be transferred from onshore to offshore people smoothly. It's a significant stage of outsourcing implementation, which may determine outsourcing will be a success or not. Below case shows how the offshore outsourcing is occurring during the implementation stage. Team A is UBS investment banking operations located in UK. It is planed to be offshore outsourced to an external company located in a foreign country. A team of offshore workers came to UK and started to learn tasks sitting beside their onshore partners ... • 36. Business Process Description Is A Map V.APPROACH TO BPMN Business process description is a map that helps us to navigate through our business activities. Using a map for navigation is quite normal in many activities, e.g., it is a must when we need to move something or be moved ourselves from one place to another. We have different maps for navigating in the physical space, marine maps, road maps, hiking maps, etc. The choice of a map depends on what we want to move, where and by what means. If we travel by car we need a road map, if we travel on foot in a mountain area, we need a hiking map. What is more, we may need several different types of maps, in case of emergency. For example, a simplified road map that shows how to get from one point to another will not help if we make a wrong turn somewhere on the way. We will need a detailed road map to get back to our initial course. Identify applicable sponsor/s here. If no sponsors, delete this text box (sponsors). VI.APPROACH TO CHOOSE BPMN If an organization is functionally structured and processes are not identified, it is suitable to use input/output view (for example, IDEF0), or agent–related view (for example, RAD). Input/output view suit mostly organizations that have formal ways of internal communications via some objects, like documents, files, etc. Then the processes can be discovered by following the movement of these objects inside the organization. History In 1990, Michael Hammer, a former professor of computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), published an article in the Harvard Business Review, in which he claimed that the major challenge for managers is to obliterate non–value adding work, rather than using technology for automating it.[2] This statement implicitly accused managers of having focused on the wrong issues, namely that technology in general, and more specifically information technology, has been used primarily for automating existing processes rather than using it as an enabler for making non–value adding work obsolete. Hammer's claim was simple: Most of the work being done does not add any value for customers, and this work should be removed, not accelerated through automation. Instead, companies should reconsider their processes in order to maximize customer value, while minimizing the consumption of resources required for delivering their product or service. A similar idea was advocated by Thomas H. Davenport and J. • 47. Definition Of A Business Process Introduction In order to achieve their goals, processes are used in accomplished organizations to complete the work needed. Organizations that adopt the process view can be very successful if used appropriately. The next few pages will define a business process, and explain the advantages of adopting this kind of organizational view. Definition of a business process: A business process is an action or a set of actions completed in a particular order that will complete a given organizational task. In most cases, these tasks, accomplish their goal by delivering products or services to a customer. Throughout the process, a number of participants are involved, such as passive or active. Process participants, which are produced, consumed, or changed, are considered to be passive. For example, computer assembly, software development, reorganizing departments, or treating patients in the hospital. On the other hand, processes geared towards the passive participants, such as workers, machines, etc., are said to be active participants (www.appian.com, n.d.).
