This document provides information about upcoming events at the Kendal Intergenerational Early Learning Center (KELC) in February. It announces a family potluck on February 12th, two field trips with the Early Learning Initiative (ELI) on February 1st and 21st, and says goodbye to Sara and welcomes two new families. It also lists closed days for KELC in 2018 and invites everyone to a Gumdrop Day celebration on February 15th at 3pm in the Langston building. Pictures from the classroom show children enjoying a fire station in dramatic play and transportation toys after a recent ELI trip to the Cleveland History Center.

1. As we zip through the cold weather of January I am looking forward to being one month closer to spring. January was a busy
month and it is looking like February will be as well. We will be having a family potluck on Monday, February 12th
, at 5pm,
and I look forward to everyone attending and sharing great food with one another. If you have not already joined us for an
ELI trip yet, we have two this month! Parents are always welcome to join in our daily activities. This month we also say
goodbye to Sara and welcome 2 new families. Please help us welcome Bergen’s and Avery’s families to KELC!

Reminder: Don’t forget to send your child with a
hooded towel for swimming dates. This makes it much
easier to walk back and forth to the pool and reduces
falls.
Cooking Club is Back:
We will start having “Cooking Club” again at 3:30pm
in the Jameson House.

You will need to make alternate arrangements for your
children on these days as KELC will be closed.

2. From the KELC Teachers:
Pictures from the last Month:
Busy, busy, busy is what the children are in the classroom! They have had a blast
playing in the Fire Station in Dramatic play as well as the fire toys in blocks and
games and toys. They have great firefighting skills! Shuang is working on adding
something special to our fire station, so keep an eye out! We have been exploring
transportation since the children have been so interested in fire trucks so it was
perfect that our ELI Trip was to Cleveland History Center. They explored different
modes of transportation from long ago. I think a favorite of all the children was
getting to ride the Merry Go Round!
February brings two ELI trips! We have our trip to BOP Stop that was rescheduled
because of the weather, and a trip to the Botanical Gardens. We will also have a
Valentine’s Playdate with our Grandfriends, a Family Potluck, a visit from a Dentist,
and our Classroom Valentine’s Day party. Please bring in valentines with your
child’s name written on the “from” part of the card. We currently have 22 students.
Please be aware that we do have a child that is allergic to tree nuts.
