1. Question 6: What have you learnt
about technologies from the
constructing the product?
Jordan Chloe Griffith
2. The process
1.
Before we performed our main task of making a music magazine we had to perform a preliminary task of creating a music magazine where we
could get adjusted to the SLR cameras and also learn the features of Photoshop. Compared to my school magazine I learnt how to use a number
of features that I did not use for my school magazine. By teaching myself how to use certain features for particular objects I learnt how to place
things in the right places and choose the right colours so they would not clash with the background as seen in my school magazine where the
colours clearly clash making it hard to read what the green writing says. I also made sure that the pictures I used for my magazine were clear
compared to my school magazine where the image I used was slightly burly also showing that I did not know how to use the SLR camera
properly.
2.
After we made our school magazine we had to conduct our research on our genre that we had picked for our music magazine and analyse the
conventions of a music magazine, we had to analyse front covers, contents pages and double page spreads. For further information on our
particular genre we had to do a background research on our genre and also do key artist case studies on our genres. Due to my genre being pop I
did artists like Katy Perry. I also had to research a record label to show that I had shown that I had researched thoroughly the history of music
and how music became the popular thing it is today .
3.
Finally before we started making we had to conduct a survey based on our chosen genre and how we were going to go about creating our media
product, we created our surveys on survey monkey where we could electronically send our peers the survey asking them to complete the
questions honestly; from there we started forming our ideas of what our music magazine would look like .
3. SLR camera and production
• When using the SLR camera I had to make sure I had it on the right
setting according to the lighting the camera was exposed to
• For my front cover, I used artificial lighting to make the model look
like she was in a much brighter room, the artificial lighting also
helped to bring more attention on her face which is what I wanted
because I was doing a range of shots, many of them close ups.
• On the SLR you could set the camera up yourself though manual
focus however I left the camera on auto and allowed the camera
decide what the best type of focus for the lighting it was exposed to
• When taking a picture of my models I made sure that I held down
the shutter button first, this made sure that the picture was focused
before I took the picture, this ensured that I had no blurry pictures
4. Websites/ post production programmes I
used through the production:
• Throughout the making of my final product I used a range of different websites...
• Survey monkey: This is what I used to build my survey on my chosen genre and
how I was able to ask my target audience what they expected to see in a music
magazine
• YouTube: I used YouTube for various reasons, mainly for tutorials on how to use
the tools on Photoshop and how to use more intricate tools to create my media
product
• Photoshop: I created the majority of my media product on Photoshop. I used
layers to build up my music magazine
• Blogger: I used blogger to upload any work I had created and also put all my
research prior to the music magazine on my blogger. Blogger was also a way to
communicate with my teachers
• Prezi, Emaze, Slideshare: I continuously used these software's to evaluate and
critique not only my work but the work of music magazines in general, I was then
able to embed these software's onto blogger. I was able to put all the research I
had gathered from looking at examples of real life pop music magazines and
format them into analysis’ where I critiqued the methods used by the magazine
industries
