2. Game World
Terrain
ArchitectureArchitecture
Objects- All of the objects included in the game that you can pick up and collect are ammunition and grenades
which can be found rarely in certain locations around the map and also enemy weapons which are not as silent
as and god as using your own though. The strengths of this is you can keep on continuing to play the game and
their aren't enough collectables around to fill up your ammunition every minute so it creates a bit of a
challenge.
Architecture- The architecture in the game is very good, there is lots of buildings, trees, rocks and sandbags
around, all which cant be destroyed but you can use to your advantage weather to do stealth or to avoid
bullets. The environments are detailed, they are often mazes of sun-drenched rock formations with crisp
textures and you get the odd destroyed building, tent and tree around. The strength of these are they help
your gameplay experience, a weakness being that they can end up getting in your way.
Terrain- The terrain in the game is anything you can stand or move on which includes everything on the
ground and also some buildings/towers which you can stand on to get a vantage point.
Avatar
Avatar- An Avatar is the name given to the on screen
representation of the player in the game in this case it is Karl
Fairburne. The Avatar can be a character, vehicle or object
that is controlled by the player, in this game only the main
player is a movable interact able character.
3. Characters
NPC’S
Playable character
Playable Characters- The main character you play as in sniper elite 3 is a solider called Karl Fairbourne who is
an expert marksman and you have to snipe a bunch of Germans or you can choose not too and complete
certain missions for your army and country.
Feedback Interface- The only included feedback interface in the game is controller vibration and it does this
when you use the special slow-mo overview of bullet kills.
Non Playable Characters- There are many non-playable characters in the game which walk around and you can
choose weather or not to fight them, but if you get spotted by one and he fires all the enemies around the
area are alerted. These is too make your gameplay experience 10x’s better.
4. Perspectives
Sniper elite III is a 3D graphic game with a 3 dimensional axis, 3rd person as well as
1st person shooter when it uses context sensitive to switch into 1st person sniping.
The series' gruesome trademark, a slow-motion bullet cam that follows the
projectiles through bones and organs with x-ray vision is also included in this
game. The artistic style for the game is Photo-realism.
The cut scenes in sniper elite are used to help understand the storyline so
you carry out your objectives more easily. The cut scenes at the beginning
are very important because they set up your play through for the rest of the
game. All of the cut scenes are still images accompanied by Karl’s (the main
character) stoic narration. Names and places are said constantly all the time,
but without much context, and each mission feels disjointed- they don’t run
as smoothly one after another- only existing for its own sake so you cannot
really understand it whilst you are playing, your just playing it for killing.

5. Game Setting and narrative
In June 1942, during the Battle of Gazala, OSS sniper Karl Fairburne is sent to assassinate General Franz Vahlen and uncover
his top-secret project. He helps British soldiers repel General Erwin Rommel's forces, but ultimately, the port of Tobruk is
lost. Fairburne heads to the Gaberoune oasis in Libya to kill several officers and reveal Vahlen's whereabouts. He only finds
a document revealing the name of Vahlen's project, Project Seuche (literally meaning plague). The Long Range Desert Group
asks for Fairburne's assistance in destroying several Flak 88s in Halfaya Pass.
Fairburne's only hope of finding Vahlen is by rescuing a British informant inside Fort Rifugio previously held by the British
during Operation Compass. Fairburne successfully infiltrates Fort Rifugio and frees the informant. The man, Brauer, shares
intelligence about officers meeting at the Siwa Oasis in Western Egypt. Fairburne, whose sniping has earned him the label
Wüstengeist (Desert Ghost) by the Germans, sneaks into the town and finds out that the officers plan to betray Vahlen to
Hitler by giving him the general's personal diary in Berlin. Fairburne kills the officer tasked as the courier and steals the
book, which details Vahlen's plans to conquer Europe when the Afrika Korps win in North Africa, with his base of operations
somewhere in the Kasserine Pass.
Fairburne and Brauer infiltrate the base and discover from a secret movie reel that Project Seuche is a supertank
codenamed Ratte. Tragically, Brauer is killed by a Tiger tank but Fairburne destroys it in revenge. He buries Brauer and takes
a round from Brauer's gun. With the location of the Ratte production facility still unknown, Fairburne joins the LRDG in
assaulting the German-controlled Pont du Fahs Airfield and finds a map leading to the facility, which is nestled inside the
Mides canyon. He gets inside the complex and prepares satchel charges to collapse the base as well as destroy the Ratte
prototype. To trigger the detonation, Fairburne puts an explosive on the Ratte's turret and drops a load of the supertank's
massive shells on it. Vahlen is mortally injured trying to escape the hangar and Fairburne takes his Luger, puts Brauer's
round in the chamber and kills Vahlen before escaping the base.
A voiceover by Fairburne during the end credits reveals that the intelligence he acquired on the Ratte enables the USAAF
and the RAF to launch the Battle of the Ruhr. The effect of Operation Chastise on steel production forces the Germans to
scrap work on the Ratte.
6. Game Type
Sniper Elite 3 is a third-person shooter with emphasis on stealth and long-range sniping, and it remembers the
old days, set in the war- which is great. This game is a story driven game which can be played either solo or co-
operatively in the campaign, there are eight missions, and all but the first tutorial mission are big and open,
with secrets and secondary objectives and multiple paths. Sniper Elite 3 forces you to take numerous variables
into consideration like hit location, breathing, environmental sounds, distance and bullet drop--and on harder
difficulties, even wind--must be noted and shots must be lined up accordingly. It also has a multiplayer mode
where you go up against other players online. The competitive multiplayer stands out, there are only five maps
and a few distinct modes such as capture the flag, but there is good like 'No Cross' team death match- which is
a game mode in which that neither team can cross an invisible divider in the center of the map. Therefor there
is no close-range combat, only sniping.
7. Rewards
Sniper Elite 3 has a total of 110 collectibles as well as 15

‘Recent studies suggest that 6 to 15
percent of all gamers exhibit signs that
could be characterized as addiction.’
Video game addiction is described as an impulse control disorder, which is described as very similar to
pathological gambling. Statistics show that men and boys are more likely to become addicted to video games
versus women and girls. Recent research has found that nearly one in 10 youth gamers (ages 8-18) can be
classified as pathological gamers or addicted to video-gaming. Some of the emotional signs or symptoms of
video game addiction include: Feelings of restlessness and/or irritability when unable to play. Preoccupation
with thoughts of previous online activity or anticipation of the next online session. Lying to friends or family
members regarding the amount of time spent playing. A reason why online video games are potentially
addictive is because they "can be played all day every day". The fact that there is no end to the game can feel
rewarding for some, and hence players are further engaged in the game. Because few clinical trials and no
meta-analyses have been completed, research is still in the preliminary stages for excessive gaming treatment.
The most effective treatments seem to be, as with other addictions and dependencies, a combination of
psychopharmacology, psychotherapy and twelve-step programs. Some countries, such as South Korea, China,
the Netherlands, Canada, and the United States, have responded to the perceived threat of video game
addiction by opening treatment centres.

10. Comparison
These two games are both made by the same game developer, Rebellion Developments Limited and are similar in
some ways such as you have to be very strategical and tactical so you don’t die fast and run out of ammunition, with
these games you have to think of a plan before executing. In rainbow six You are a group of trained soldiers doing
missions to rescue hostages, and other people in a series of buildings, are a threat trying to kill you, in this game you
don't die after getting shot 30-40 times. one shot and it's over. The graphics from this game are okay considering the
game is from 1998 but these are very similar. The maps in sniper elite are much more open and the colours are
brighter and you are free to do whatever you like, within reason but in rainbow six there is only one objective on a
smaller map, I believe it is darker to add a better effect on the gameplay however the games are just as hard as each
other to complete.
