1. MY PROPOSAL
JESSICA OSEMAN.
The title of my magazine:
I have chosen the title of my music magazine to be ‘Diversity’. The reason
for this is because the definition of Diversity is the state of being diverse;
variety and a range of different things. Furthermore, this reinforces the
range of music within the charts which is part of my chosen music genre. In
addition, I think it emphasises originality within the music industry.
Choice of genre:
My choice of genre is pop/chart music mainly because this genre music is
what I tend to listen to and I can relate to the artists whom appear within
the charts and their lyrics. Furthermore, this genre of music is up to date,
current and the most popular choice of music. Additionally, this genre
meets expectations of all ages, both genders and includes music to suit
everyone.
Choice of target audience:
I have chosen my target audience to be within a range of the age 16 to 23,
the reason it starts from the age of 16 is because that is my age so therefore
I can relate to the music and magazine and I have plenty of people around
me the same age who I can ask questions on their preferences for the
magazine. In addition, it opens up to the ages upwards until 23 because this
music targets a wide range of audience but I have narrowed it down to
these ages for the reason being that the ages of the artists are roughly the
same so therefore are more relatable and of the latest music.
Initial ideas about my front cover:
I am planning to focus my front cover around a medium close up shot of a
young woman with fashionable make-up and hair to emphasise the latest
fashion and freshness of style and music. The young woman who I shall use
will be a friend of mine who is the same ages which again reinforces my
target audience. In addition, I am planning to either use a colour scheme of
black, red and white because they represent an idea of modern colours
which would reinforce the idea and connotations of the exclusiveness and

freshness, due to the colour white also, of the artist and their music. I plan
to stretch my masthead across the top row of the rule of thirds on the page
due to the fact that’s where a masthead is generally situated within a
magazine cover, also it will most likely be in the colour white to represent
the freshness of the music and magazine itself. In contrast, I may also use
the colour scheme of blue, pink, white and black instead, this is because
they represent liveliness and brightness which emphasises pop music. The
coverlines will be situated on the page around the medium close up, the
coverlines will be enticing and interesting for the audience to persuade
them to purchase it. In addition, the coverlines will be linked to persuasive
sell lines such as offering concert or gig tickets for example.
Initial ideas about my contents page:
The contents page layout will be set out into the rule of thirds to make the
page look accurate and professional. In the top left third I am planning to
place the logo/masthead of my magazine to continue to advertise the
magazine itself. Within the contents page I will include pages which will
intrigue the consumers the most such as: advertising gigs, posters, well
known artist interviews etc… I will include subsidiary photos, again which I
have taken myself outside of college, which will link to my chosen genre of
music. Additionally, these subsidiary photos will link to pages within the
magazine, they will have page numbers on them to tell the readers where
to find and locate them in the magazine also.
Initial ideas about my double page spread:
On one page of my double spread, it will consist of an original photo in
which I have taken myself which will represent and reinforce the article on
the other side of the double page spread. The right side will either consist
of the following: interview with an artist, gossip or information about a
particular artist and this artist will be the one I base my front cover on
(Ella) who is the friend I have photographed. It will consist of texts and
images of and about the artist.
