2. You've got a lot to say for the one that walked
away
I give, you take It's the way it's always been
Well how do I know if I should stay or just go?
The bottom line is this way
That, I'll never know
Stay with me
(Stay with me, stay with me)
Stay with me
Ohh woahh ohh
You've got a lot to say for the one that pushed
me away
I give, you take, some things they never change
Just change
Stay with me
(Stay with me, stay with me)
Stay with me
Know, know that I can be this way
Know, know that I can walk away
These things take time to grow
It's been said that time heals wounds
But no, I won't be controlled
And so the story goes
Stay with me
(Stay with me, stay with me)
Stay with me
Know, know that I can be this way
Know, know that I can walk away
A British Rock band from Surrey, consisting of
members, Josh Franceschi, Max Helyer, Chris
Miller, Matt Barnes and Dan Flint.

3. The music video starts off
with an establishing shot of
a valley and cuts to a wide
shot of a car driving through
the valley and then a wide
shot of the band. Straight
away, there is fast editing
and cuts between the
narrative and performance
of the video. The quick
cutting has a relationship
with the fast pace, tempo of
the rock music playing. The
wide performance shots of
the band show that they are
at an ‘unusual’ setting,
outside with their
instruments, miming by a
tree.
4. Performance
There are mid-shots and close- ups of the band members
miming out in the field, close-ups of the instruments
demonstrate their musical skill and establish their star
persona. The iconography of the instruments suggests the
musical genre, being indie-rock. The fast cuts definitely
represent the target for their song and music video as
being young people 15-24, girls as well as, young men too.
Various mid-shots show the band members jumping
about and head banging showing their enthusiasm and
personality, as they are immersed in the atmosphere and
music as the audience should be too.
5. Editing and Technical
Codes
Many close-ups of the main vocalist, from many
different angles , e.g. centre screen , to the left of the
screen and high angle shots to show his ‘brilliant’ face
as he lip-synchs. The use of shallow depth of field,
makes him the focus and the background blurred,
maybe due to decisions of the producers of this text.
As well as him receiving a lot of screen time, second to
him is the drummer, and there are frequent close-ups
of him due to the fact that he a conventionally
attractive member of the band. Likely more attractive
than the lead singer. Frequent close-ups of band
members can be due to demand and audience
research i.e. young female fans of the band probably
find the drummer to be good looking, so he would
require more face time due demand and for
‘sales/promotion’. There are also many shots of
members with longer hair, ‘hair flicking’… due to
demand.
6. Narrative
Close –ups of thee characters establish their roles in the narrative, the first image was of the car driving
through the valley and the close –up of the young blonde man, reveals it was him in the car. He drives
past two other female characters and there is a close up/2 shot focusing more on the redhead. The
narrative is a linear story and quite importantly, a love story, which is very popular in the narrative of a
music video of this genre. The characters in the story are all actors and the musicians/band members ,
do not appear as part of the story but only in performance miming and lip synching. All the actors are
white and are conventionally attractive, which is a representation very common in music video of this
genre. That may reflect the audience of this genre or song, it may be the producers intent or influenced
by thee band themselves. The story shows people burying items relating to past lovers or relationships
and watering them, as if they were plants and after a while their partner pops out. There is a
relationship between the visuals and lyrics.
