2. THE MAIN PRODUCT
In order to receive reliable feedback we displayed our first cut of the film to
different students fitting between the ages of 15-20 of different sexes and social
groups. From their feedback we edited and altered the piece so that we could create
the strongest piece possible, both fitting and going against the conventions of film
noir and neo noir. The feedback from our target audience was very important as the
students interviewed were specific to whom we wanted the film to appeal to.

§ Followed the plot easily
§ Liked the twist ending
§ Good use of shots to create an atmosphere
§ Liked only using one set of dialogue throughout the piece
§
§
4. Feedback- NEGATIVE

§ Too slow pace of editing
§ Music didn’t transition well between scene
§ Music was too quiet during credit
§ Not a fan of the fonts used for the title sequence
§ Can’t have two directors
§
5. What did we do?
After receiving the feedback from a mix of social groups we began to edit the piece.
The miner improvements were made, such as increasing the volume of the credit
music and introducing transitions to help the pace of the shots. We used YouTube and
YouTube Converter to find and download copyright free audio for each scene, we then
began to look at what we wanted the audience to feel at each scene, and matched
the music accordingly. Also, we noticed that the opening credits did seem out of
place on screen and began to research film noir titles to see how other films
presented. We found that we should take away the black outline and enlarge the drop
shadow.

6. POSTER
§ After designing the final posters we needed to
decided which image to use as the focus point of
the poster. We had 3 options, the protagonist,
the femme fatale and both together. Once again
we questioned a group of young people
representing the social groups of the target
audience and they gave feedback.
§
7. Feedback- POSITIVE
§ Liked that we continued with the black and white colour scheme
§ Strong central image
§ Positive reaction to the simple approach to the poster as less is more
§ The sinister atmosphere linked well with the film
§ Continued using the company logos
§
8. Feedback-NEGATIVE
§ Titles too small
§ Text at the bottom too small
§ Too much space between the image and the text
§ Didn’t fit with the traditional conventions of film noir
§ Shouldn’t have a tag line
9. What did we do?
§ We decided to rearrange the text so that they could be enlarged however still
balanced on the poster.
§ We then increased the size of the image to decrease the space between that and
the text
§ As the tag line “A love that lead to murder most foul” seemed out of place and
didn’t add anything to the poster, therefore we decided to take it away.
§ We then justified that due to it being neo noir, we challenged the traditional
conventions of the poster and decided to present it in this form.
10. THE MAGAZINE ARTICLE
§ When designing the magazine article we gave out a survey in order to see which
image would be most effective in catching the readers attention. We questioned
25 students from different social groups and asked them to choose between 4
options for the main image.
11. Results
§ We found that the strongest
images were the screenshots of
the two characters kissing and
the image of the knife. This
showed that the photo needed
to be a strong action or symbol
of some sort in order to catch
the readers attention and
create the correct tone for the
piece.
