The document summarizes feedback received from test audiences on marketing materials created for a horror film called "Helena". For the trailer, audiences felt the spirit "Helena" was too absent, so a girl singing was added to establish her presence. They enjoyed how this created suspense. For the film magazine, audiences felt more was needed to make elements stand out, so color changes were made. Finally, audiences felt the film poster image and use of red text were too similar to other materials. An alternative black and white image with minimal red text addressed this feedback.

Q3 evaluation 2016
1. Q3: What have you learned from
your audience feedback?
2. Trailer: Initial Audience research
• For audience research we created a
questionnaire, formed a focus group and
interviewed a horror fan. From the
questionnaire it informed us on their favourite
horror sub genre being psychological with
enjoying conventions of suspense presented
through eerie music.
3. Trailer: action Taken
• Therefore we made sure that we included all
elements that the audience suggested for our
audience pleasures. From having an unsettling
mood at the beginning from the music
presented which creates the suspense for the
audience.
4. Trailer: Evaluation of outcome
• I feel the trailer went well as we made sure we
included every element the audience told us
to as well as the conventions from real media
texts.
5. Trailer: Production feedback
• Our audience felt that the spirit ‘Helena’ was
too non existent in the trailer and therefore
wanted to see more of her to show some form
of existence.
6. Trailer: Action Taken
• Therefore we decide to add a voice of a little
girl singing to show the audience that it was
‘Helena’, it was more scary at the fact that she
was singing a nursery rhyme which created an
atmosphere for the audience.
7. Evaluation of outcome
• Having the girl singing in the background was
a great idea because it really unsettled the
mood for the audience creating that suspense
and eerie atmosphere.
8. Evaluation of feedback/personal
reflection on feedback
• Overall the audience really liked the editing of
slow and face pace with the girl singing in the
background as it created suspense for them and
also said the distribution slate looked very
professional.
• In my opinion i feel the trailer was very good and
well put together however I would of preferred to
have a soundtrack in the background.
9. Initial audience feedback: Film
Magazine
• When looking at real media texts it was clear
that it is important that you choose the right
image that you are going to present as your
main in image on the magazine. Also colour
and font are both very important as it makes
stand out.
10. Film Magazine: Action taken
• Therefore we chose the image of our actress
where she looks like a doll, this is to have that
relation between the film to give the audience
an idea of what is done to the victims. We also
used red with a distorted effected on our film
title ‘Helena’ to make it stand out.
11. Film Magazine: Evaluation of outocme
• Our audience loved the image that we used
and liked what we did with the title however
felt that there was nothing that really made
anything stand out.
12. Production feedback: Film magazine
• The audience said that the puff and the
banner being the same colour was weird and
therefore should be changed colour, also the
masthead was not bold enough.
13. Film magazine: Action taken
• We therefore changed the colour of the
banner and the puff so that they could both
stand out from the background. Also the
masthead now has a shadow around it to
make it bold.
14. Film magazine: Evaluation of outcome
• The final product of the magazine looked
better than the first as we made sure we took
on board what the audience said and made
sure those changes were made.
15. Film Magazine: Evaluation
feedback/personal reflection on
feedback
• The audience liked the final product of the
magazine especially because of the distorted
effect and the black colour behind the film
title which is red. Felt that it looked well
together and was bold.
• In my opinion I feel the magazine looked good
especially because we made several changes
that the audience wanted.
16. Initial audience research: Film Poster
• The audience from the focus group didn’t
want the poster to give away too much as this
will not entice them to watch the film. They
also expect the colour scheme of black and
red which shows relation of what genre is
being represented
17. Film poster: Action Taken
• Therefore we made sure that we used of a lot
of black with the backrgound being darkened
and the font red to symbolise blood. This also
showed that the genre is horror.
18. Film Poster: Evaluation of outcome
• The initial film poster looked good as it
fulfilled the audiences expectations.
19. Film poster: Production feedback
• The audience felt that the image used for the
poster was way too similar to the magazine
image and therefore should be changed to
show the different aspects of the trailer. They
also felt that there was too much red font and
therefore should used to a minimal.
20. Film poster: Action Taken
• We changed the main image completely which
just shows the side of the actress shown in
black and white, this therefore doesn’t give
away too much and is most definitely showing
a different aspect of the trailer. The red font
was used to a minimal as instructed to by the
audience.
21. Film poster: Evaluation of outcome
• The final poster was great as you saw the
massive change from the rough cut. This
showed that the feedback was most definitley
acted upon.
22. Film poster: Evaluation feedback/
personal reflection on feedback
• The audience saw the improvements made in
the final poster and really liked it, they felt
that everything was well placed with a better
image being used.
• In my opinion I definitely liked the final poster
as I didn’t give away too much which is key to
enticing the audience.
