2. Magazine front cover 1
The Mast head is used and is positioned at the top of the
page in the middle. It is big and bold and eye catching to
the audience. It is used to tell the audience what
magazine it is and the unique font makes it easily
recognisable.Cover lines are used and are
positioned at the side of the
image. They are not as big and
bold as the main cover line.
They give information to the
viewer of what feature stories
are in the magazine.
Main cover line which
says “New V8
Supercars” is
positioned at the
bottom but is bold and
big. The letters are
slightly smaller than the
Mast head because it is
the second most
important piece of text.
It is used to instantly
inform the audience
what the main feature
storyline is about so
that they will want to
read on.
The Subject is the main image on the
magazine. It covers all of the
background in this magazine. It gives the
audience an understanding of the type of
magazine it is. They will instantly know
that it is a car magazine because of the
cars on the front.
A positioning statement is
used. They are located at the
top of the page and it gives
the audience an incentive.
There are about 4 fonts used in this front cover.
Different fonts are used for different uses of text.
The “Top Gear” Mast head has its own unique
font. A different font is used for the cover lines
though.
The front cover sticks to mainly two
colours which are yellow and white.
This makes it easier to look at
because there is a simpler design.

The Masthead, “NME”, is used at the
top left of the page. It is bold and big
and has a unique font which is easily
readable and recognisable for the
audience. It is used to tell the audience
the name of the magazine. If someone
had read this magazine before
whenever they recognised the
Masthead they would know it was a
music magazine.
The subject is the lead singer of
the Arctic Monkeys and is
positioned in the middle and
almost covers the page. It is
used to also inform the
audience what the main feature
story is and to show the genre
of the magazine. The subject is
looking into the camera which
gives social interaction with the
viewer.
The main cover line is bold, has
large text and has a different
font to all other text to make it
stand out. The white also helps
it to stand out because we see a
lot of red on the page so a
different colour stands out. It is
positioned at the bottom so that
it is not covering the subjects
face but still stands out. It is
used to grab the audiences
attention and to give them an
understanding of the main
feature article.
Cover lines are positioned at the side
of the page so that they do not get in
the way of the main cover line or the
subject. They are smaller and not as
eye catching and usually all use the
same font but they do still standout.
They give information about what
other stories there are inside the
magazine. This makes the audience
want to carry on reading.
There is 4 colours used which are white, red, blue and black. More than one
colour is used so that the front cover is not boring and so that certain sentences
can stand out like the main coverline. Also there is a single colour background
which stops messiness and helps the reader to be able to easily read the text.
The positioning statement is located at the top of the
page to give the audience an incentive to read on.
Because it is an exclusive interview it make s the
reader want to read more.

Text is used and positioned in columns. The
text summarizes all information in the
magazine in one page. It helps the reader find
the story they are looking for.
Numbers are located next to the
text. It shows the main pages and
lines up next to the text that
describes the page.
Pictures are used to show
what is inside the magazine
and what its about. There is
usually a main image. In
this case the main image is
of a character from the
Hobbit. Showing the
magazine will be about the
Hobbit. The images are
placed next to the text.
The date is shown to
indicate how recent the
magazine is. It is normally
positioned at the bottom but
in this case is positioned
under the contents title.
The title of the magazine
is used normally at the
top of the page to remind
the audience what
magazine they are
reading. It is in the unique
font which makes it more
recognisable.
The red and white font is used
throughout to match the
colour scheme of the front
cover. It stands out on the
single coloured grey
background.
Advertising is used by
showing other Empire
magazines related to the
same film. This makes the
audience buy more.
The contents page is
organised so that it is easy
for the reader to navigate
their way through the
magazine. Sub-headings
help do this because they
are easy to read and stand
out. It is simple with a clear
structure where the text is
in columns and pictures
are in one place.

One main image is used to show what the
main article in the magazine is about. It is
positioned at on what side of the page so that
it is not getting in the way of the content. The
smaller image give a greater understanding to
the audience of what other feature articles are
inside.
Page numbers are used to
show the main pages to help
the reader navigate through the
magazine. They are next to the
text.
The text is organized into
columns to make it easier to
find a section you would
like. It summarizes the
magazines content in one
page and the numbers line
up next to the text so that
the audience know what
pages include certain
information.
It does not have the title
of the magazine but it
does have an image of
the front cover to remind
people of what the
magazine is about. This is
near the top of the page
so that it is one of the first
things the audience looks
at.
Red, black and blue is used
because these are the same
colours used on the front
cover. Also different coloured
text can show what is a
subheading and what is
information. The background
is one colour which is white
which makes it easier for the
audience to read the black
text because these colour
contrast. Stops confusion as
well because it is simple.
There is a link used which is
shown at the bottom of the page.
If the audience have finished
reading the page and think it is
interesting the link is the last thing
to be looked at so that they know
where to purchase more content
or report any problems. This web
