2. What point did the presenter
make about videos just a few
years ago and videos now?
The presenter made the point that
music videos used to be about peoples
happiness and is now about women
showing off their bodies such as lady
gaga and Katy Perry. The videos are
now based more on the women it is
showing than the music and now
women in general are being portrayed
differently due to this.
It is unfair on the normal women who
have to almost live up to this and the
children who have to watch this on
TV as a way of life
3. Why were these important in the
development of music videos?
This has changed music videos from just for fun and
about the music and now most music videos contain
women showing off their bodies and acting sexually
even if it’s a bad song. The videos are based as much
on the women it contains than how good the song
sounds. Men will watch anything if it has these women
in it.
Now the bar is being raised ever higher as to how
much women can be involved in these videos.
4. How did ‘Tashy Jay’ chose to represent
herself in the documentary?
What was she saying about ‘video
girls’ at the shoot?
Representing herself as a classy women and very professional
you can tell that she thinks she is better than all the other
video girls.
She is saying that they fling themselves at the
artists, that they have no class. She says that she
would never act in this way.
She thinks that the video girls have no class.
5. What did he think about
‘video girls’?
Why do they need these
girls in their videos?
Where did they find all these girls? Wouldn't it be
expensive to pay them all?
To attract the people to watch the artists
video and listen to their song even if it is not
really that good of a song. That they want money and they try to
get the attention of the artist so they can
get more work they are kind of smart for
it.
Most of them heard through social media and jut came because they think they
might get noticed and no, most of them don’t get paid even though they think
they’re going to.
6. How does China Black illustrate some of
the issues with how women are represented
in music videos?
She believes that women have to look good to be able to be a video girl she spends money
on her breasts and bum to be able to get in a music video. This shows how much women
want to get in the videos and the lengths they will go to to be able to get into one of these
videos . Most women will never make the money back from what they spent on the
surgeries back from dancing or being a part of these videos.
7. These women believe they are the
ones with the power. They believe
they are exploiting men, not the
other way around. What do you
think?
I think they are right but wrong at the same time.
They are using men to make money but men are
also using them In videos or pictures for their
pleasure both sides are being exploited. As long as
the women are happy getting paid and the men are
happy paying for what they are getting there are no
problems with what both genders want.
8. This sexual equality expert argues that
music videos have a lot to answer for -
what’s the issue?
What does the government think?
That women are used as slaves to men. And that the videos show
that men can have whoever they want. The women are being
exploited and then almost disposed showing the respect that men
give to the women. The women are being used as objects by the
men.
That the videos are a bad role model to young people and they
are following a bad influence and that they cant be watching
this because they’all think that it is what every man or women
is like when they grow up
9. K.I.G use ‘video girls’ - what
do they think of them?
Music Video Director ‘Digital
Dan’ has a lot to say - what does
he think of the girls?
That they are normal girls who just want to
make money for themselves and they try to get
attention for themselves by clinging on to the
artist showing how desperate they are for jobs.
They need to get the attention of the artist to
be picked for a future video.
He thinks that they think that this could be their
big break but he knows it never is this shows how
hard it is to get into the industry.
He thinks that they are just used as objects to be
used in these videos – they may not even get paid.
10. What happened to Alisha?
She thought she was going to a music video but then she
got sexually assaulted because it was fake and set up this
shows the risks that women are taking to try to get into
this industry and that its not safe and people should be
very careful when trying to get into the industry no one
can be trusted when making cheap music videos.
She was like everyone else in the industry she just wanted
to get paid and break into the industry and this can
happen to anyone in the same place as her.
But Alisha did not want to give up and carried on going
to music videos as this was her ‘dream’.
11. This lady has been working with
artists for years and cast lots of
‘video girls’ - what changes has
she seen and what’s her opinion?
She has seen the change from beautiful classy girls with
elegance to a ‘sex pistol’ who is just used to look at and
exploit. This shows that now all women need is boobs
and a bum and they can be in this industry.
Her opinion is that women only need a boob job and a
big bum and they can now be the main attraction in
the music video. They can be the only reason that
people watch the video. Because they are turning into
objects that just ooze sex appeal.
12. Why is she challenged on this performance by the
presenter?
Tashy Jay is challenged because she told the presenter that she would never shake her bum
and get very naked on camera but she did. This shows that women will go to lengths that
they don’t necessarily want to.
13. This is the US ‘Ambassador for Hip Hop’ - what
is her view?
How has Angel Lola Love’s experience
been positive?
Her view is that beautiful women are being used by rich men that are
ugly and just using them to look powerful.
She feels that video girls should be treated with much more respect
than they are being treated with.
Angel Lola loves experiences have been extremely
positive because she has acted kind of classy witch has
helped her make a lot of money.
14. What conclusions can we draw from this
documentary?
From this documentary we can learn that the video girl industry can be very hard and
dangerous to be able to get involved in and that it doesn't always woke out. But we can also
see that it can also be very successful and lots of money can be made.
