This documentary examines the role of women in modern hip hop music videos. It explores how music videos have become increasingly sexualized over the years, with women often dressed in revealing clothing and dancing provocatively around men. Some women discussed feeling exploited by this process, being asked to do more than they were initially comfortable with. While fame and money attracted some to become "video girls", others recounted experiences of unwanted sexual advances and assault. The documentary scrutinizes the message this sends to young audiences and questions whether change is needed to promote more positive representation of women.
2. Q.What point did the
presenter make about videos
just a few years ago and videos
now?
A.She was saying how men
and women would dance
normally, but now women will
be all around the men with
short cloths. (an example in
the two pictures.
3. Q.Why were these important in the
development of music videos?
A. These are important now because
this is the type of videos people will
watch. The agents of the singers
want to keep there audience so they
grow with them by sexualizing there
videos.
4. Q.How did ‘Tashy Jay’ chose to represent herself in
the documentary?
A. She represented her self in the documentary
because she wanted the fame, by gaining more fame
more people will know her.

‘video girls’ at the shoot?
A. The reporter was saying that
there were girls dressed down to
the last string or that some of the
women were sleeping with the
singers to gain a better part
5. Q.What did he think about
‘video girls’?
A.He thought that the
women had to be part of the
video as they should be.
Q.Why do they need these girls in
their videos?
A.This is what the audience wants
now a days. Girls boost the singers
popularity because it shows that
they are in control.
Q.Where did they find all these girls? Wouldn’t it be expensive to pay them all?
A.People put websites up and posters around parts of the streets so they can gain some girls. Some
of the video makers would look for girls online or there agents would find a video for them There
would be girls that just show up from nowhere so they can gain the fame. Most of the people that
make the videos do not pay the girls because they don’t have the money two but the women are
fine with that because they still get to be part of the video.
6. Q.How does China Black illustrate some of
the issues with how women are represented
in music videos?
A.She tells how some women are taken
advantage of by having to dance all up in the
singers face or how they have to strip them
self's off for the singer in the video
7. A.These women believe they are the ones
with the power. They believe they are
exploiting men, not the other way around.
What do you think?
Q.I think on both sides because the women
are the ones who are wanting to be in the
video and they know that this generation
wants to see women that undress or are
dressed sexually. But the men are also in
control because they can use the women and
make them think that its for a better role.
8. This sexual equality expert argues that
music videos have a lot to answer for -
what’s the issue?
A. That a younger audience does watch
these videos and that they have to
change or the younger audience will
grow up thinking this is right.

they want the men to do.
Q.Music Video Director ‘Digital Dan’ has a lot
to say - what does he think of the girls?
A. He thinks of the girls as a second race in my
opinion because he doesn't care. If he's paid
them then he will want them to shut up and
stand in a place and flash their bits. He will also
say that he's going to pay them but he won’t in
the end, he has a lot to answer for because he
acts in a sexist manner and is quite
stereotypically male.

shoot which she was really happy
about. The men there then started
pouring a liquid substance on her and
she thought this was to much so she

pinned her down to the ground in a
sexual way. She then tried to tell all the
women that wanted big parts in music
videos to be aware of this.

with artists for years and cast lots
of ‘video girls’ - what changes has
she seen and what’s her opinion?

her opinion is that this is wrong
and that it would have to change
because its wrong.

A.Shes challenged because the reporter is giving her feed

right.

A. The US Ambassador of Hip Hop thinks that
we have something to learn off these girls
because they ca look sexy in a sexual no cloths
way and that the man wont and heel just wear all
his cloths

been positive?
A.Here experience has been positive
because she has played parts in big

sexual way then needed
