2. The point that Nelufar Hedayat made about
videos just a few years ago and videos now is
that in 1990 the song ‘have you seen her’ by Mc
Hammer, the girls looked classy, beautiful and
attractive. 8 years later in 1998 ‘Hit me Baby One
More Time’ by Britney Spears came out, this was
a lot more sexual. 2 years later in 2000 ‘Thong
song’ by Sisqo there are women half dressed
wearing bikinis dancing. 2 years after in 2002
‘Dirty’ by Christina Aguilera ft. Redman there were
women dancing/fighting in a boxing ring wearing
bikinis surrounded by men. In 2010 ‘Telephone’ by
Lady Gaga there are women naked wrapped in
very little tape sexually dancing.
As you go through from1990 to 2010 the videos
get more sexual and revealing. I personally think
as we go through time music videos will become
more and more sexual and reveling Until their
banned.
3. These videos were important in the
development of music videos because these
are the videos that changed the sense of sex
in a song. There is a major change between
1998 and 2002 because as time goes on the
videos get worse and worse.
4. Tashy Jay represented herself as very innocent and classy.
She made out to be a successful music video girl. She said
that she can triple thread which means she can dance, sing
and act. She chose stage school over University. She said to
be a video girl you have to look good, you have to get your
nails done, your hair done ect. She said a lot of the girls get
with the artist to get fame, and that she didn’t do that (which
isn't 100% true.) She said that before a music video a lot of
girls drink alcohol and even drugs to get in the mood for
dancing.
Tashy Jay was saying that the ‘video
girls’ at the shoot get with the artist to
get fame and to get lead roles.
5. XO Man said they need these girls
in the video to make a rubbish song
good because people would watch
the video.
XO Man thought that ‘video girls’
made the song better because
people would watch the video.
Digital Dan said that they tell the girls that their going to get paid, but
really they don’t (a scam.) In other cases girls do get paid a lot, for
example Angel Lola Love gets paid $10,000 a video and gets paid just
to turn up to a night club.
6. China Black illustrates some of the issues with how women are
represented in music videos because she says in order to be successful
you need to be perfect. You need perfect hair, a perfect body, perfect
skin tone ect. If your not perfect you surgically need to be. So for
example Breast implants and buttocks implants.
7. I think that a lot of ‘video girls’ are taken
advantage of like for example Aleshia who was
sexually assaulted on a fake online modeling
shoot. I also believe that the music videos can
give girls confidence and attention for example
Sherese said that she enjoys the compliments
and she likes it when men dribble over her
body she said it makes her feel powerful.
8. The sexual equality expert, Julia Love says the
issue is girls are being seen as disposable (you can
use them and throw them away when you like.)
She said the costumes the girls wear are from
pornographic videos, for example nurse outfits and
maid outfits.
The government thinks that the sexual music
videos change girls and boys. They think it
changes the way they dress (more revealing) and
their attitude towards relationships may seem
beyond their years.
9. K.I.G think and look at videos girls as
‘hoes’ and just ‘dancing girls’. They also
said that they use the girls by sleeping
with them.
Digital Dan thinks and treats the ‘video
girls’ like toys, he orders them to do what
he wants. He also said that he scams
them, he says to them that their going to
get paid but really their not.
10. Alisha was sexually assaulted on a fake
online modeling shoot . She went to court
with the case but the jury didn’t believe
her because of what she does (video girl)
the accused was let free. Alisha said that
she is still carrying on with her dream to
be a video girl because she doesn’t want
the man to stop her fulfilling her dreams
in life.
11. The changes Angelina Hunt has seen are
in the 90’s the videos were beautiful and
classy, completely different to now days.
Now the videos are looking for more sexy
videos.
Her opinion is that on the music videos
there are rappers calling the women their
‘bitch’ and their ‘hoes’. 14 year-old girls
should not be watching that, thinking that
its right for boys to be talking to them like
that.
In the States if you’re the lead girl in a
music video you’re a star.
12. Tashy Jay is challenged on this performance by the presenter because Tashy Jay said that she would never
go so far to wear a thong in a music video so the presenter challenged her about it by asking her why she
did a video in a thong she replied to get to the dream you want sometimes you have to bend the rules a
little.
13. The view of the Ambassador for hip hop is that her all
the girls are perfect and beautiful, but the men don’t
necessarily look good. She thinks there's nothing wrong
with the video girls doing what they want. She said their
beautiful with fit bodies why shouldn’t they be able to be
in videos?
Angel Lola Love’s experience has been
positive because she gets paid approximately
$10,000 a video and gets paid just to turn up to
night clubs! (She's a star in the states.) She is
currently using her money and fame to become
a rapper called Lola Munroe.
14. The conclusion we can draw from this documentary is that as we go through
time music videos are getting worse and worse and still are. But its not
necessarily the ‘video girls’ fault because their being told what to do in the
videos and sometimes being led on. They are told and promised money and
fame but there is a very slim chance they will ever get that.
