The document describes life for children living in a dump in the Philippines, where they work instead of going to school due to poverty. An organization built a school called Papaya Academy to provide education for these children, allowing them to learn, dance, sing and smile instead of working. 1. The world is a big place!

2. We live here, in Asia. Hey look, I see the Philippines!

3. This is where we live, Manila.

4. People who live here eat rice 3 times a day.

5. … ..but some people have no money to buy rice.

7. Typhoons

8. Volcanoes This town isn’t here anymore!

9. Earthquakes

10. All these, leave people homeless.

11. Some people have to come here to work and live. Patayas Rubbish Dump

12. Children have to work on the dump,

13. instead of going to school.

14. They make a little bit of money,

15. And find their food!

16. The families sleep on the dump,

17. and kids play!

19. People wanted to help and wondered what they could do.

20. And they came up with a great idea…….

22. A PRETTY ONE!

23. The school bus picks them up…….

24. and takes them to school.

25. Now they are dancing,

26. and singing…..

27. and learning,

28. and smiling,

29. …… instead of working on the dump.
