1. The Green Rap:
A Figgy’s Adventure.

2. Figgy was an old fig tree; the last world tree; the last tree of Naranjo.
Figgy lived in San Juanillo; in front of the school. Maybe, he lived there
because he wanted to learn from the kids. He was not only an old tree, but
also a wide tree.
He knew how the world was before; before becoming gray instead of green.
Perhaps, you may not believe me. But, some kids say that when you play next
to this old fig tree you can listen to him. You can listen to him telling
stories of how the world was before, an old green world.
Figgy had lived a lot of adventures; a lot of adventures in order to save the
nature. But in the year 2055, it was not easy. The world was too polluted.
The air was polluted by cars. The noise was caused by loud machines. The
soil was polluted by waste products and the water by chemicals factories.
The city lights were causing light and visual pollution. Well, the earth was
dying and anybody do nothing. Well, this old fig tree was not missing the
hope.
3. Today, you will listen one of the most amazing stories that he had lived. You
know, he is an old wide tree. HA! But you still do not know what a wonderful
musician he is.
This story happened on one normal day on the year 2055. Kids
were wearing their normal uniform (an UV protection sweater and
pants, and their anti-smog masks). A normal day for everybody,
except for 4 kids: Brandy, Laft, Vand and Jord. They felt bad.
They knew the world was dying. They also knew everybody was
doing nothing. They wanted to make a difference. But, they still
did not know how.
One day, after classes, they were playing around the computer lab.
Suddenly, they looked something inside a bag. Mmm… Something with a
rectangle form.
What’s that?-asked Brandy
I don’t know!- said Jord- Let’s open the bag and find it out.
MMM. IMPOSSIBLE!!! I THOUGHT THEY WERE A MYTH- yelled Vand.
What’s happening? What’s that? –asked the other kids.
A book- said Vand.
A what?-replied the others.
A book- answered Vand- In old days; people used to get some
information from that: books. I heard that also kids went to the school
and use them. There were also something named notebooks and kids
used to write on them. Well, it was a time when something named
paper was taken from trees. It used to be one of the “natural
resources” we have been studying in science and history.
-And how do we use that?-ask Laft.
4. -By reading-said Vand-Let’s move under the tree and read it.
The four kids moved. They sat under the shade of the only tree that
existed. After sitting down, the shook the dust from the book and read the
title: “4R’s of Environmental Protection”.
Vand opened the book and read aloud- “4Rs of
Environmental Protection”. These are: Reduce (Use or
buy only what we really need - there is no waste to
treat when there is no waste to begin with.), Reuse
(Don't throw away items that are reusable. Reduce
waste by making full use of any item, Recycle (Give items you don't
need to persons in need; recycle broken but recyclable items so that
the resources can be recycled into usable items), Replace (Adopt eco-
friendly goods or lifestyles, such as using handkerchiefs instead of
tissues, travel by public transport instead of private cars)
I HAVE AN IDEA!!!- yelled Laft-How about using the 4R’s in the
community.
No possible-said Jord. People do not care about the environment. Look
around us; pollution, pollution and more pollution. No life. The only alive
item we have in the school is this old fig tree.
That’s right!- answered the tree.
Who says that?-asked Brandy.
It was me!- said the tree-My name is Figgy; Figgy the fig three. Nice
to meet you kids.
A TREE WHO TALKS???-yelled the four kids.
Yes, but do not be scared-said Figgy. I am just a friend and I have an
idea to help you.
5. Do you like music???-asked Figgy.
Obviously, everybody loves music-said the 4 kids.
So, let’s make a 4R’s campaign motivating people with music- said Figgy.
Come every day before the school- said Figgy- No more than 15 minutes
are needed. I will teach you a RAP… You will learn it and sing it. Seven
days are more than enough. But, you must promise to remember me
and always to use the music and all you are for good.
The kids did what the tree said. Fifteen minutes during 7 days. They went
and learned the following rap;
“Save the Earth
Save the planet
Remember the 4’Rs.
Is there any paper?
Reuse it and then recycle
Are there any jars?
Wash them and then recycle
Are there any plastic bottles?
Take them for recycling.
Are there any soda cans?
Crush them and recycle
Is there any food waste?
Use it for compost
Save the Earth
Save the planet
Remember the 4’Rs.
Save the Earth
Save the planet“
Brandy, Laft, Vand and Jord started to sing this rap in the school. It
became famous as the kids do. The popularity of the song exceeded their
expectations. The song had a catchy rhythm. Everybody wanted to rap it.
6. The rap became not only famous in the school and the community, but also
in the entire nation and area. Kids started to visit radio and TV stations;
they were giving interviews and singing the song on shows.
The rap was a BOOM… And believe or not???
The community and the entire world started to change. People not only
started to sing the rap, but also to do what the rap said. People began to
reuse, reduce, recycle and replace. People started to take care of the
environment. People began to be green.
And what happened with Figgy???
Well, he had a lot of new friends. The money the kids earned with the rap
was used to reforest. He is not alone any more. He has new friends and old
friends too. Figgy never forgot what Brandy, Laft, Vand and Jord made for
him as kids never forgot what Figgy made for them. That’s a good life rule:
always help the others will be helping yourself as well.
