AT&T Hosts Hazmat Drill in Willoughby
Hazmat Drill with Lake County Hazardous Materials Team at AT&T Network Facility
WILLOUGHBY, Ohio (July 31, 2017) — AT&T* knows reliable, constant communication is
critical during a disaster. That’s why its Network Disaster Recovery (NDR) organization is
conducting a joint hazmat drill with the Lake County Hazardous Materials Team on Aug. 2.
We’re practicing now, so we’re prepared to keep our customers connected when disaster
strikes.
The NDR Special Operations (hazmat) team is deploying one of its new hazmat response
vehicles to the AT&T facility located at 38043 Third Street, Willoughby, 44094. The AT&T
hazmat team will work with the Lake County Hazardous Materials Team and its member
local fire departments to conduct a hazardous materials training drill. During the building
entries, the team members will practice damage assessments and checks of the
environmental conditions in the generator room and cable vault. The team will be donning
Level A and Level B protective equipment for the drills.

VISUALS: Response teams with AT&T and the Lake County Hazardous Materials Team
will don full personal protective equipment designed for a hazmat incident
(Level A hazmat suits). Emergency responders will perform drills that will test
the emergency response plans for both AT&T and local Lake County fire
departments.
“By performing these exercises together, the Lake County Hazardous Materials Team, local
responders and AT&T NDR are able to create a general state of readiness in Northeast
Ohio,” said Wickliffe Fire Chief James Powers, who is serving as Public Information Officer
for the cooperative exercise in Willoughby. “This preparation is valuable when
communication is critical, should an emergency arise.”

In its two decades of service, the AT&T NDR team has been deployed more than 75 times.
The NDR team deployed on September 11, 2001, following the New York City World Trade
Center disaster – recovering the services of a destroyed network office and providing
