Essay The Role And Functions Of New Zealand Government
The New Zealand Government has made significant changes to the economy throughout the last 15
years. The operation and organisation of business activity in New Zealand has been affected by this
changing economy. All aspects of the New Zealand Government have been altered. The reason for
this change was to improve the performance by being more efficient. The key reforms are
privatisation and corporatisation of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and restructuring government
agencies.
The most significant change was the election of the Labour Party in 1984, which ended the Muldoon
Administration. At this time, New Zealand was in a rut because of poor economic management by
the previous Government. Unemployment was high in 1983 and still ... Show more content on

Some restructuring and reforms affected these sectors.
The New Zealand Government owned many enterprises such as State Insurance, Air New Zealand,
New Zealand Rail, The Bank of New Zealand, and Telecom. In 1987 most of these assets were sold.
By doing this it meant the Government could pay off large accumulated debts and allow these
companies to become more efficient. After the sale of these SOEs that the New Zealand
Government has become more efficient too, they can focus on their primary task by providing
essential services. Some of these services include public hospitals, education, benefits, and
emergency relief.
From the reforms came a radical change in New Zealand trade. In 1984 the Government devalued
the New Zealand Dollar by 20%, then in 1985 introduced a floating exchange rate. Along with that,
the removal of agricultural subsidies and import tariffs. It allowed New Zealand to be a fairer
country to trade with. As a direct result, the trade competitive index jumped from 0.72 on 1985 to
0.98 in 1987. Foreign investment increased as the New Zealand Dollar strengthened against the
'green back' and the pound. Consequently, importing and exporting firms benefited from the change
in policies.
The services that the New Zealand Government provides have ongoing restructuring (which means
altering an already established department) in the State Sector. The State Sector Act 1988, "which

The Basic Information Of Tioman Island
Tioman Island (Malay language: Pulau Tioman) is a small island located 32 km off the east coast of
Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang, and is some 39 km long and 12 km wide. It has eight
main villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek in the north. The densely
forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it a popular
scuba diving spot. There are also a lot of resorts and chalets around the island which has duty free
status.
Its beaches were depicted in the 1958 movie, South Pacific as Bali Hai. In the 1970s, TIME
Magazine selected Tioman as one of the world's most beautiful islands.

the Rompin district including the town of Kuala Rompin. Its representative to the State Legislative

MONDAY APRIL 4, 2011
Rich Dad Poor Dad is a book that presents thought provoking teachings on wealth creation and
financial independence. The book can be describes as a narrative motivational novel that features
four interesting characters, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Mike and Robert (the author). Poor Dad is a highly
educated professor who despite have worked hard over the years barely meets his household
expenses. His believe on money was that money is root of all evil. Rich Dad on the flip side ... Show

The rich then adopted the concept of corporation as tax shield. This is because, corporations have
the luxury to spend all it and the rest taxed. Individuals do not have that privilege. Therefore the rich
formed corporations and thereby transferred their entire tax burden to these corporations. So whilst
the individual is taxed in his or income before he or she can spend them the rich get the privilege of
spending all they can before being taxed. Through this lesson, Robert encourages readers to take
advantage of the tax benefits of corporations by forming one.
Lesson Five: The rich invent money
Robert page 140, paragraph one states that, "we all have tremendous potential and well are blessed
with gifts. Yet, the one thing that holds us back is some degree of self doubt. It is not so much the
lack of technical information that holds us back, but more the lack of self–confidence". This
quotation attests to the importance of believing in the potential, power of imagination and creativity
of oneself. He points out that, life outside school is different and that it takes people with "balls" and
"guts" who can make on the job market. He stresses that, excessive fear and self doubt are the
greatest detractors of personal genius. In concludes, "in the real world, it is not the smart that gets
ahead, but the bold".
Lesson six: Work to learn–don't work for money.

Space Race Pros And Cons
SOCIAL WHEELS AND SPACE RACES
When we talk about recent innovation, social change, industrial change, what pops into most of our
heads is "space technology". Gps systems, wifi, the moon landing, and probes all fall into this
category. But how did all these interstellar wonders appear into our everyday life? What pushed our
civilization to expand out tech beyond the sky. The answer to that starts with politics. To be more
exact, a nazi v2 rocket project late in WW2. Although it wasn't a very effective weapon, it brought
the idea of a "space technological evolution".The USSR and the US governments captured the
German science team after the war for their own projects. Both nations pooled money into this new
found area of advancement, resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The explorer was a huge step for the states, their first man made object in space. And what did
Russia do to maintain their technological dominance? Shortly after the American success, the USSR
launched the first man armed mission, and made Yuri Gagarin the first to bask in the interstellar
glory of outer space. And not soon after, the USSR buried the dagger even deeper with a couple
more Russians waving the red flag in outer space. The US barely catching up, launched into space.
The states can thank Kennedy for their first lead on Russia, as he announced the goal of sending an
American to the moon. As we all know now, NASA delivered the Americans their leading point
when Neil Armstrong first stepped on the moon. From the point of view of other countries, it would
make much more sense if both superpowers worked together, instead of childish symbolic projects.
Not only were these "experiments" expensive, they were also quite dangerous. As US and USSR
relations got better, the space race slowly came to an end. That officially happened when space
stations from both countries docked, and astronauts from both ends of the race shook hands and
shared gifts. This iconic

Public Relations And Communication Management Essay
Introduction
Grunig (2013) sees public relations and communication management as fundamental to the
achievement of organisational goals. A major road and tunnelling project in West Auckland, has
required considerable planning and communication with publics. The Waterview Connection
Development (WCD) is a motorway link between State Highways 16 and 20, which, in part, runs
through tunnels. The WCD aims to provide a direct link between the central business district and the
airport, and an alternative to State Highway 1.
This essay critically assesses how the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) has communicated
with publics during the WCD. It analyses the communication activity, and applies public relations
theory.
Key Publics
Major publics with an interest in the project include residents with properties affected by the noise
and possible shifts of land, road–users who may experience delays during construction, and
businesses that may lose of revenue if customers find it difficult to access their premises. Mehta and
Xavier (2009) note engagement relationship strategies used with various publics may be different to
each other and vary over time as different parts of the project are completed. Project managers need
to negotiate with residents, road–users and business–owners to minimise disruptions.
All affected sections of Auckland 's multicultural population should be included in the organisation
's publics. The diversity model (Mersham, Theunissen, & Peart, 2009)

Stigmatization And Social Welfare Essay
This essay investigates the concept of stigma within the context of selective approaches to welfare
and social services. It starts by identifying the concept of stigma in debates about universal and
selective approaches to welfare. Then it will proceed to a more general understanding of the concept
in regards to attitudes towards groups of people who have been categorized by stigmatization and
stereotyping in society as non–deserving poor. After identifying the concept of stigma within
debates about universal and selective welfare and more general debates about institutionalized
stigmatization, this essay critically discusses modern day examples of stigmatization. This essay will
now discuss the concept of stigma that is felt in individuals receiving assistance ... Show more

The individual will be required to go through significantly intrusive and complex paperwork and
provide a substantial amount of documentation in order to qualify to receive this type of social
welfare payments. This essay puts forward the argument that the individual receiving such payments
are aware that they are not 'owed' these payments but they are the 'receipt' of public charity. This
leads to stigmatization in the individual's personal life, they may be ashamed if people ask what they
are doing. The individual may start to socially isolate themselves as it is easier not to have to face
the questions. The individual feels shame and anxiety just presenting themselves at the social
welfare office which is further fuelled by the means test process. As described by (Reismann,2001)
'Stigma mean a loss of self–respect and personal dignity, a sense of guilt, of shame, of personal fault
or failure' Reismann states that there is stigma felt in relation to the means test used for those who
require state provided social assistance payments in order to give access to those who are most in
need they must be segregated from the rest of the population in

The Day I Became A Teenager
"Happy Birthday!" It was October 2, 1957 and the day I became a teenager. I didn't have much of a
worry in the world and really only cared if the surf was up and whether my favorite song, "All
Shook Up" by Elvis Presley would become a gold record. Little did I know, but it would be a day
that would change my life and world. It would be infamously known as the day the Soviet Union
successfully launched Sputnik. Looking back, I realize it not only scripted my mentality but
America's mentality for the 1960's. My family gathered on the deck to see Sputnik. We didn't see
Sputnik in the night sky but it was more what we felt in the air; hurt pride. But I also felt like it was
the beginning of a great competition, one that I would have the privilege of competing in. I grew up
in an environment of competition with three older brothers in Cocoa Beach Florida. I would often
walk to the beach or sit on our deck with my brothers to watch the rocket launches from the launch
pad in Cape Canaveral. Then we would go and launch our model rockets on our street. We would
look forward to the weekend cookouts in which our neighborhood gathered to launch model rockets.
The majority of our neighbors worked at the Cape Canaveral Air Force station and would relate to
us kids how the V–2 rocket projects were going, then they would tell us when the next launch would
happen so we could watch it. A few months after the launch of Sputnik my family was anxiously
awaiting the launch of the Vanguard

The Reality Of Reality Tv Essay
This particular episode of Dancing with the Stars was scheduled on a Sunday, 7–8:35pm, TV3. As
stated by Horrocks (2004), this time is during the prime viewing time, with substantial numbers of
audience members watching television. According to Creeber (2008) the genre of reality TV is
typically shaped by the weekend program, followed by results and elimination – hence, Dancing
with the Stars has performances on Sunday and results of voting of Monday. As shown by Throng
(2015), this episode, screened July 12, had 346,930 people watching with a potential audience share
of 8.3% of total viewers watching TV at that time, which can be compared to the competition on
other stations (Neilsen, 2015; Throng, 2015). TV One screened Sunday at 7–8pm (442, 700 viewers,
10.5% share of the total audience) followed by House Hunt 8–8:30pm (302,820 viewers, 7.2% share
of the total TV audience) (Neilsen, 2015; Throng, 2015). TV One is aimed at older audiences, thus,
viewers older than the key demographic of Dancing with the Stars would most likely have watched
TV One during this time. TV2 however, was in direct competition with TV3 during this time as it
had a similar reality TV talent show screening – The Voice Australia (Neilsen, 2015). This show is
aimed at a slightly younger demographic due to the target audience of TV2 being younger, however,
because of the time slot and genre it is in competition with Dancing with the Stars (Neilsen, 2015).
However, The Voice Australia, had only 188,450

Taking a Look at the Space Race
The 20th century was a complex and eventful time period for the Soviet Union. The Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics (also known as the USSR or Soviet Union) survived and advanced through a
century that consisted of revolutions, changes in leadership figures and policies, and events such as
World War II and the Cold War. As this union experienced a period of so much change, there is no
doubt that these events had a variety of large impacts on the history and culture of the Soviet Union.
However, a certain series of events and explorations that also reached a peak during this era often
took a more subtle route of impact on Soviet society and culture. Space exploration in the Soviet
Union and across the world took a huge leap forward toward the end of the 20th century. Namely,
the Space Race between the Soviet Union and the United States of America lasted from the 1950's to
the 1970's and engaged the country in an intense competition to the moon. While the Space Race did
focus on achieving greatness in space, a deeper analysis showed that it revolved around the desire to
obtain supremacy in not only the spaceflight sector of the world, but also as a powerhouse nation in
general. The United States and the USSR pushed each other to complete the first to launch into
space, send humans to space, and finally to reach the moon. Ultimately, one of the largest ways that
the Space Race incluenced the culture and people of the Soviet Union happened through the creation

Why Is Media Studies Personal Statement
The Harry Potter series was, and still is, my favourite books to read. The series, which contains
seven books, are my price possession. I started reading the first book when I was about ten years old
and the more I read, the more I realised that I was hooked. I was a little behind about the movies but
nobody was as excited as I am when I found out that they had film adaptation for the books.
Needless to say, I was mesmerized. Everything was so amusing to me, from the effects in the
movies to the design of the posters. It is almost like the imagination in my head had come to live.
From there, I knew it has sparked my interest in media. Media has grown throughout the years; it
has been springing up like mushrooms after the rain and it will continue to spread especially in this
modern world that we lived in. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube – I believe all of these social media
websites have been a big part of, not only me, but everyone's lives. Media plays such a big role in

intellectually challenging subject to learn. A lot of people assume that Media Studies is just fun and
games but I know it is more than that. It requires a lot of theory, critical thinking and research and
that is what I am looking for, a balance of practical and theoretical to further my study in.
Interacting and meeting new people are honestly the two things that I enjoy doing. As I have
mentioned, media contributes a big role to everyone's lives especially in this 21st century. Therefore,
it is more relevant for me to learn about Media Studies, as it is a medium to interact with different

main languages used however are English, Bahasa and Mandarin. Each of these different languages

three, the confederated states had two and Kelantan had one. As for the other broadsheets in
Malaysia, there are the Al–Iman, Neracha (Islamic reform journals), Utusan Melaya and Lembaga

cost of debt will be determined by the type of long term rating the company has. According to
Moody's (n.d.), Molson Coors' is Baa2 (as shown in the chart below) as of April 26, 2012.
So, the 20 year corporate bond interest rate associated with the company's rating is 3.86.
Furthermore, we need to get the tax rate. As of today, the marginal tax rate for corporation is about
40 percent. Since some companies obtain long term breaks, it is important to calculate the
company's effective tax rate. The effective tax rate is the actual taxes paid by the company which is
the actual taxes paid divided by earnings before taxes (Gandevani, 2014). According to Molson
Coors Income Statement as of December, 2013 (Yahoo! Finance), the income before tax was
$654,500 and the income tax expense was $84,000. The formula is as follows:
ETR = Income Tax Expense / Income before Tax
ETR = $84,000 / $654,000
ETR = 0.1283 or 12.83%
Moreover, let's calculate the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC). And in order to calculate it
we need to know the capital structure of the company. Knowing the capital structure of the

information from managers achieve better outcome. TVNZ failed to perform this causing negative
impact on worker. 7. Communication to stake holder According to the case study, stakeholder's
involvement in the change decision was not mentioned. This is a negative factor as key stakeholders
are important members for organisation's survival. Lewis et al. (2006) claims that details of change
should be discussed with stakeholders. Cereste et al. 2003 (Appelbaum et al. 2008) emphasises that

price competition in many markets has resulted in marketers pouring more of their promotional

A movement away from relying on advertising–focused approaches, which emphasize mass media

These large retailers are using their clout to demand larger promotional fees and allowances from

The Media Reporting On Employment Essay
Employment relations issues are reported to society by the media. The issues reported have changed
over time, the topics included employment strikes over wages and staff shortages, Employment
Relations Bill, high profile collective bargaining, employment agreements, and minority
mistreatment. The emphasis on reporting these issues has changed over time because of the
audience's interests and journalism biases. The method in how news is reported to society has also
changed over time, from printed media to online forums which has given any person the possibility
to report the news. This essay is going to critically discuss the media reporting on employment
relations and the change in emphasis on reporting these matters. Upon consideration of the literature
the media report less news about the employment related conflict because the audience is not
interested, unless it is a critical issue. Employment relations focuses on: the powers and interests of
employees, employers, unemployed and government on regulations for employment conditions and
workplace rights; employee, employer, unemployed and government strategies for influencing,
regulating and controlling employment relationships; 'cultural, social, economic, political, legal and
institutional contexts' of implemented employees, employers, unemployed and government powers
and interests, and the design and implementation of employment relationship regulations
(Rasmussen, Employment relations in New Zealand, 2009).

The Media And Its Impact On The Economy And Society Operates
Journalism is a form of writing that informs public about things that already happened in our life. It
is a practice of examining and reporting issues, events and trends to the media such as print and
broadcast media. It is not only presenting the news of the day of a city or a country, but telling
meaningful stories about what is new or is happening around us, understanding it and explaining it
to others (Michael et al., 2012). The people who write journalism, gather news and information for

The Human Centipede: Did It Go Too Far?
The Human Centipede Did it go Too Far? "The Human Centipede" is a horror film written,
produced, and directed by Tom Six. The film was originally released in 2009 at film festivals and
theatrically on April 28th the following year. Described as "the most horrific film ever made," most
critics agree that the film is horrific but don't share Six's enthusiasm. While the films originality

mainstream critic reviews. Contrary, the film earned over $2,000,000 in revenue through DVD sales.

Analysis Of Graham Norton 's ' The Television Industry '
The word genre has different meaning to different people. Lealand and Martin (2001) explain how
"the television industry uses the term to categories and identify the various parts of its programming
mix. The audiences use it to identify and choose their viewing preferences" (p. 59). The Graham
Norton Show comes under the genre of a celebrity talk show, but holds its own comedic spin.
Norton creates uniqueness to the show through the way he cracks jokes and interacts with his
audience and guests. The show begins with a witty introductory monologue of who will be on the
show, then moves into the classic couch interviews, and finishes with a celebrity music
performance, conventions that all fit with the talk show genre (Miller, Boddy & Shattuc, 2008). The
show focuses largely on the guests and their lives, along with promoting what they are currently
involved in, relating it back to the purpose of the talk show genre (Miller, Boddy & Shattuc, 2008).
A subcategory of this genre is a late night celebrity talk show, which The Graham Norton Show can
also come under. According to Timberg, Bernard and Robert (2010), "the late night version is based
on congenial, playful encounters between guests and the host, who is more often then not a singer or
comedian" (p. 7). This subcategory became popular on television in the 1950s, and increased in
popularity thanks to shows such as The Tonight Show (Timberg, Bernard and Robert, 2010). Since

Cases? Explore Why or Why Not, Referring to Recent Cases [Jane Shannahan]
Introduction
Right to privacy became an issue in the US as far back as 1890 in words not unfamiliar to 21st

"The press is overstepping in every direction the obvious bounds of propriety and of decency.
Gossip is no longer the resource of the idle and of the vicious, but has become a trade, which is
pursued with industry as well as effrontery" (Warren & Brandeis, 1890, cited in Pearson, 2005,

The New Zealand EPMU's Journalism Code of Ethics contains guiding precepts including the desire
that members do not gain by cash or kind; that they are fair in obtaining news and images and are

recognises the importance of privacy in their Statement of Principles. However, the NZPC puts
privacy in the overall context of pursuit of the public interest: "nevertheless the right of privacy
should not interfere with publication of matters of public record, or obvious significant public
interest" and subterfuge should only be utilised when "information cannot be obtained in any other

However, membership of EPMU is not compulsory and neither set of tenets are actually laws. On

Radio Is Becoming More Prolific
Like all media, radio is rapidly changing. In fact, Lacey (2013) states that "Radio is arguably
becoming more prolific, more fragmented, more manipulable, more mobile, and more global". This
is evidenced by the fact that radio distribution has become more pervasive, production technology
has dramatically changed and the consumption habits of listeners have become diverse. There are
several reasons as to why these changes are happening and a prime example of this change in radio
is Mediaworks multi–platform morning news and current affairs show, Paul Henry.
On Tuesday 7th of April 2015, Mediaworks launched their first 'multi–platform' breakfast show Paul
Henry ("Paul Henry reveals", 2015). With Henry at the helm of the show, viewers could ... Show

Here, "radio waves are sent from a transmitter to radio receivers using allotted frequencies in the
electromagnetic spectrum" (Chignell, 2009, p1). In other words, speech from a person talking in a
studio is turned into a radio wave, beamed across the airwaves to a receiving radio set and then
turned back into speech again for people to listen to. There are three main frequencies used in
analogue radio – amplitude modulation, frequency modulation and short wave. At first, Amplitude
modulation or AM was the dominant frequency, however, people found that the quality was poor
particularly during the night. FM or frequency modulation soon took over as the preferred frequency
as the sound quality was better and there was no interference day or night (Chignell, 2009). For FM
radio, they also found that the potential geographical reach could be manipulated by altering the
amount of power going into the transmitter. For example, a 100,000–watt transmitter could reach an
area with a radius of 104 kilometres whereas a 50,000–watt transmitter could only reach an area
with a radius of 72 kilometres (Chignell, 2009). Analogue frequencies are still a common form of
distribution in New Zealand, but up until recently, this was the basis for all forms of radio
communication.
Research ratings tell us that fewer Kiwis are listening in to the conventional form of radio. Over the
past 15 years, listener numbers have dropped 20 percent ("People are

The Mass Of Mass Communication Essay
Modern life has become accustomed to the use and influence of mass communication. The
telegraph, gramophone, radio transmission, and moving images such as television are some of the
earliest forms of mass communication that became entangled with various capitalist government
regulations and an interpersonal mass audience. In the 1980's a second media revolution began to
emerge with the technological advancements of "digital convergence" which is the ability to access
a range of multimedia content across a number media platforms with a number of devices. This
essay will discuss whether due to these advancements, is it time the idea of mass communication
needs to be re–evaluated, and with the increasing using of multifunctional communication tools,
whether or not the mass communication era has ended.
Mass communication may be interpreted differently to a number of people. Many relate the method
to the shear number of people engaging in the type of communication, the mass of the people or size
of the audience. However others may focus of the second part of the word, "communication" and
think of mass communication in the traditional sense that it was based of the idea of exchange
(Chafee & Metzger, 2001, pp. 355–356). Until recently, mass communication was the idea of
connecting with a large audience and a vast demographic, however that no longer applies due to the
arrival of media channels. The number of radio and television channels has dramatically risen along

Have the Right Actions been Taken?
A Communication Analysis of the Waterview Connection Development
Introduction
Grunig (2013) sees public relations and communication management as fundamental to the
achievement of organisational goals. A major road and tunnelling project in West Auckland, has
required considerable planning and communication alongside its publics. The Waterview
Connection Development (WCD) is a motorway connection between State Highways 16 and 20,
which, in part, runs as tunnels. The WCD links between the central business district and the airport,
and an alternative to State Highway 1.
This essay critically assesses how the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) has communicated
with publics throughout the WCD. It analyses the communication activity, and applies public
relations theory.
Key Publics
Major publics with a distinct interest include residents with properties affected by the noise and
possible shifts of land, road–users who may experience delays during building, and businesses that
may lose of revenue if customers find it difficult to access them. Mehta and Xavier (2009) note
engagement relationship strategies used with various publics may be different to each other and
during different parts of the project. Managers will need to negotiate with residents, road–users and
business–owners to minimise disruptions.
All affected sections of Auckland 's multicultural population should be included in the organisation
's publics. The diversity

Essay The Role And Functions Of New Zealand Government

  • 1. Essay The Role And Functions Of New Zealand Government The New Zealand Government has made significant changes to the economy throughout the last 15 years. The operation and organisation of business activity in New Zealand has been affected by this changing economy. All aspects of the New Zealand Government have been altered. The reason for this change was to improve the performance by being more efficient. The key reforms are privatisation and corporatisation of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and restructuring government agencies. The most significant change was the election of the Labour Party in 1984, which ended the Muldoon Administration. At this time, New Zealand was in a rut because of poor economic management by the previous Government. Unemployment was high in 1983 and still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some restructuring and reforms affected these sectors. The New Zealand Government owned many enterprises such as State Insurance, Air New Zealand, New Zealand Rail, The Bank of New Zealand, and Telecom. In 1987 most of these assets were sold. By doing this it meant the Government could pay off large accumulated debts and allow these companies to become more efficient. After the sale of these SOEs that the New Zealand Government has become more efficient too, they can focus on their primary task by providing essential services. Some of these services include public hospitals, education, benefits, and emergency relief. From the reforms came a radical change in New Zealand trade. In 1984 the Government devalued the New Zealand Dollar by 20%, then in 1985 introduced a floating exchange rate. Along with that, the removal of agricultural subsidies and import tariffs. It allowed New Zealand to be a fairer country to trade with. As a direct result, the trade competitive index jumped from 0.72 on 1985 to 0.98 in 1987. Foreign investment increased as the New Zealand Dollar strengthened against the 'green back' and the pound. Consequently, importing and exporting firms benefited from the change in policies. The services that the New Zealand Government provides have ongoing restructuring (which means altering an already established department) in the State Sector. This is because, corporations have the luxury to spend all it and the rest taxed. Individuals do not have that privilege. Therefore the rich formed corporations and thereby transferred their entire tax burden to these corporations. So whilst the individual is taxed in his or income before he or she can spend them the rich get the privilege of spending all they can before being taxed. Through this lesson, Robert encourages readers to take advantage of the tax benefits of corporations by forming one. Lesson Five: The rich invent money Robert page 140, paragraph one states that, "we all have tremendous potential and well are blessed with gifts. Yet, the one thing that holds us back is some degree of self doubt. It is not so much the lack of technical information that holds us back, but more the lack of self–confidence". • 10. Space Race Pros And Cons SOCIAL WHEELS AND SPACE RACES When we talk about recent innovation, social change, industrial change, what pops into most of our heads is "space technology". Gps systems, wifi, the moon landing, and probes all fall into this category. But how did all these interstellar wonders appear into our everyday life? What pushed our civilization to expand out tech beyond the sky. The answer to that starts with politics. To be more exact, a nazi v2 rocket project late in WW2. Although it wasn't a very effective weapon, it brought the idea of a "space technological evolution".The USSR and the US governments captured the German science team after the war for their own projects. Both nations pooled money into this new found area of advancement, resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The explorer was a huge step for the states, their first man made object in space. And what did Russia do to maintain their technological dominance? Shortly after the American success, the USSR launched the first man armed mission, and made Yuri Gagarin the first to bask in the interstellar glory of outer space. And not soon after, the USSR buried the dagger even deeper with a couple more Russians waving the red flag in outer space. The US barely catching up, launched into space. The states can thank Kennedy for their first lead on Russia, as he announced the goal of sending an American to the moon. As we all know now, NASA delivered the Americans their leading point when Neil Armstrong first stepped on the moon. From the point of view of other countries, it would make much more sense if both superpowers worked together, instead of childish symbolic projects. Not only were these "experiments" expensive, they were also quite dangerous. As US and USSR relations got better, the space race slowly came to an end. That officially happened when space stations from both countries docked, and astronauts from both ends of the race shook hands and shared gifts. This iconic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Public Relations And Communication Management Essay Introduction Grunig (2013) sees public relations and communication management as fundamental to the achievement of organisational goals. A major road and tunnelling project in West Auckland, has required considerable planning and communication with publics. The Waterview Connection Development (WCD) is a motorway link between State Highways 16 and 20, which, in part, runs through tunnels. The WCD aims to provide a direct link between the central business district and the airport, and an alternative to State Highway 1. This essay critically assesses how the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) has communicated with publics during the WCD. It analyses the communication activity, and applies public relations theory. Key Publics Major publics with an interest in the project include residents with properties affected by the noise and possible shifts of land, road–users who may experience delays during construction, and businesses that may lose of revenue if customers find it difficult to access their premises. Mehta and Xavier (2009) note engagement relationship strategies used with various publics may be different to each other and vary over time as different parts of the project are completed. Project managers need to negotiate with residents, road–users and business–owners to minimise disruptions. All affected sections of Auckland 's multicultural population should be included in the organisation 's publics. The diversity model (Mersham, Theunissen, & Peart, 2009) ... It starts by identifying the concept of stigma in debates about universal and selective approaches to welfare. After identifying the concept of stigma within debates about universal and selective welfare and more general debates about institutionalized stigmatization, this essay critically discusses modern day examples of stigmatization. The individual will be required to go through significantly intrusive and complex paperwork and provide a substantial amount of documentation in order to qualify to receive this type of social welfare payments. This essay puts forward the argument that the individual receiving such payments are aware that they are not 'owed' these payments but they are the 'receipt' of public charity. This leads to stigmatization in the individual's personal life, they may be ashamed if people ask what they are doing. The individual may start to socially isolate themselves as it is easier not to have to face the questions. The individual feels shame and anxiety just presenting themselves at the social welfare office which is further fuelled by the means test process. I didn't have much of a worry in the world and really only cared if the surf was up and whether my favorite song, "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley would become a gold record. Little did I know, but it would be a day that would change my life and world. It would be infamously known as the day the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik. Looking back, I realize it not only scripted my mentality but America's mentality for the 1960's. My family gathered on the deck to see Sputnik. We didn't see Sputnik in the night sky but it was more what we felt in the air; hurt pride. But I also felt like it was the beginning of a great competition, one that I would have the privilege of competing in. I grew up in an environment of competition with three older brothers in Cocoa Beach Florida. I would often walk to the beach or sit on our deck with my brothers to watch the rocket launches from the launch pad in Cape Canaveral. Then we would go and launch our model rockets on our street. We would look forward to the weekend cookouts in which our neighborhood gathered to launch model rockets. The majority of our neighbors worked at the Cape Canaveral Air Force station and would relate to us kids how the V–2 rocket projects were going, then they would tell us when the next launch would happen so we could watch it. As stated by Horrocks (2004), this time is during the prime viewing time, with substantial numbers of audience members watching television. According to Creeber (2008) the genre of reality TV is typically shaped by the weekend program, followed by results and elimination – hence, Dancing with the Stars has performances on Sunday and results of voting of Monday. As shown by Throng (2015), this episode, screened July 12, had 346,930 people watching with a potential audience share of 8.3% of total viewers watching TV at that time, which can be compared to the competition on other stations (Neilsen, 2015; Throng, 2015). TV One screened Sunday at 7–8pm (442, 700 viewers, 10.5% share of the total audience) followed by House Hunt 8–8:30pm (302,820 viewers, 7.2% share of the total TV audience) (Neilsen, 2015; Throng, 2015). TV One is aimed at older audiences, thus, viewers older than the key demographic of Dancing with the Stars would most likely have watched TV One during this time. TV2 however, was in direct competition with TV3 during this time as it had a similar reality TV talent show screening – The Voice Australia (Neilsen, 2015). This show is aimed at a slightly younger demographic due to the target audience of TV2 being younger, however, because of the time slot and genre it is in competition with Dancing with the Stars (Neilsen, 2015). • 22. Taking a Look at the Space Race The 20th century was a complex and eventful time period for the Soviet Union. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (also known as the USSR or Soviet Union) survived and advanced through a century that consisted of revolutions, changes in leadership figures and policies, and events such as World War II and the Cold War. As this union experienced a period of so much change, there is no doubt that these events had a variety of large impacts on the history and culture of the Soviet Union. However, a certain series of events and explorations that also reached a peak during this era often took a more subtle route of impact on Soviet society and culture. Space exploration in the Soviet Union and across the world took a huge leap forward toward the end of the 20th century. Namely, the Space Race between the Soviet Union and the United States of America lasted from the 1950's to the 1970's and engaged the country in an intense competition to the moon. While the Space Race did focus on achieving greatness in space, a deeper analysis showed that it revolved around the desire to obtain supremacy in not only the spaceflight sector of the world, but also as a powerhouse nation in general. The United States and the USSR pushed each other to complete the first to launch into space, send humans to space, and finally to reach the moon. Ultimately, one of the largest ways that the Space Race incluenced the culture and people of the Soviet Union happened through the creation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cost of debt is the rate that a company pays on its current liability. This can be calculated before or after tax. For the purpose of this paper, the cost of debt will be determined by the type of long term rating the company has. According to Moody's (n.d.), Molson Coors' is Baa2 (as shown in the chart below) as of April 26, 2012. So, the 20 year corporate bond interest rate associated with the company's rating is 3.86. Furthermore, we need to get the tax rate. As of today, the marginal tax rate for corporation is about 40 percent. Since some companies obtain long term breaks, it is important to calculate the company's effective tax rate. The effective tax rate is the actual taxes paid by the company which is the actual taxes paid divided by earnings before taxes (Gandevani, 2014). The issues reported have changed over time, the topics included employment strikes over wages and staff shortages, Employment Relations Bill, high profile collective bargaining, employment agreements, and minority mistreatment. The emphasis on reporting these issues has changed over time because of the audience's interests and journalism biases. The method in how news is reported to society has also changed over time, from printed media to online forums which has given any person the possibility to report the news. This essay is going to critically discuss the media reporting on employment relations and the change in emphasis on reporting these matters. Upon consideration of the literature the media report less news about the employment related conflict because the audience is not interested, unless it is a critical issue. The film was originally released in 2009 at film festivals and theatrically on April 28th the following year. Described as "the most horrific film ever made," most critics agree that the film is horrific but don't share Six's enthusiasm. While the films originality should be noted, many find its concept disturbing and grotesque. Lealand and Martin (2001) explain how "the television industry uses the term to categories and identify the various parts of its programming mix. The audiences use it to identify and choose their viewing preferences" (p. 59). The Graham Norton Show comes under the genre of a celebrity talk show, but holds its own comedic spin. Norton creates uniqueness to the show through the way he cracks jokes and interacts with his audience and guests. The show begins with a witty introductory monologue of who will be on the show, then moves into the classic couch interviews, and finishes with a celebrity music performance, conventions that all fit with the talk show genre (Miller, Boddy & Shattuc, 2008). The show focuses largely on the guests and their lives, along with promoting what they are currently involved in, relating it back to the purpose of the talk show genre (Miller, Boddy & Shattuc, 2008). A subcategory of this genre is a late night celebrity talk show, which The Graham Norton Show can also come under. This is evidenced by the fact that radio distribution has become more pervasive, production technology has dramatically changed and the consumption habits of listeners have become diverse. There are several reasons as to why these changes are happening and a prime example of this change in radio is Mediaworks multi–platform morning news and current affairs show, Paul Henry. In other words, speech from a person talking in a studio is turned into a radio wave, beamed across the airwaves to a receiving radio set and then turned back into speech again for people to listen to. There are three main frequencies used in analogue radio – amplitude modulation, frequency modulation and short wave. At first, Amplitude modulation or AM was the dominant frequency, however, people found that the quality was poor particularly during the night. FM or frequency modulation soon took over as the preferred frequency as the sound quality was better and there was no interference day or night (Chignell, 2009). For FM radio, they also found that the potential geographical reach could be manipulated by altering the amount of power going into the transmitter. For example, a 100,000–watt transmitter could reach an area with a radius of 104 kilometres whereas a 50,000–watt transmitter could only reach an area with a radius of 72 kilometres (Chignell, 2009). Analogue frequencies are still a common form of distribution in New Zealand, but up until recently, this was the basis for all forms of radio communication. The telegraph, gramophone, radio transmission, and moving images such as television are some of the earliest forms of mass communication that became entangled with various capitalist government regulations and an interpersonal mass audience. In the 1980's a second media revolution began to emerge with the technological advancements of "digital convergence" which is the ability to access a range of multimedia content across a number media platforms with a number of devices. Mass communication may be interpreted differently to a number of people. Many relate the method to the shear number of people engaging in the type of communication, the mass of the people or size of the audience. However others may focus of the second part of the word, "communication" and think of mass communication in the traditional sense that it was based of the idea of exchange (Chafee & Metzger, 2001, pp. 355–356). A Communication Analysis of the Waterview Connection Development Introduction Grunig (2013) sees public relations and communication management as fundamental to the achievement of organisational goals. The Waterview Connection Development (WCD) is a motorway connection between State Highways 16 and 20, which, in part, runs as tunnels. The WCD links between the central business district and the airport, and an alternative to State Highway 1. This essay critically assesses how the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) has communicated with publics throughout the WCD. It analyses the communication activity, and applies public relations theory. Key Publics Major publics with a distinct interest include residents with properties affected by the noise and possible shifts of land, road–users who may experience delays during building, and businesses that may lose of revenue if customers find it difficult to access them.
