social realism films are normally set in big city's such as London or Edinburgh. The
films are normally set in places that you may see on a general basis if you live in
these city's. this is to relate to the audience as they can relate to the state and the
image of the city's they live in.
A common occurrence in social realism films is the use of younger unknown
actors. This is because the use of unknown actors gives the chance to create a
character without being judged by other films they may have been in. this gives a
sense to the audience that this character could be anyone which makes you want
to know more about them.
The basis of social realism films are things like drugs, alcohol, sex and crime. This is
because these are things that everyone can relate to.
Also in these type of films political views or religious views are widely observed
like in this is England (2006/directed by Shane meadows) the political views and
religious views of the people in that time in England are shown through the
actions of the characters.
