The document discusses lessons learned from creating a preliminary task and applying them to a final media production. It describes overusing sound effects in the preliminary task and learning the importance of silence. It also discusses improving planning, paying attention to detail like weather, using more suitable equipment like a DSLR camera, gaining feedback through peer reviews, and allowing more time for post-production in the final media production.
Introduction to ArtificiaI Intelligence in Higher Education
Evaluation Question 7
1.
2. In our preliminary task we really overdid the foley sound, in the beginning we
added the sound of birds alongside overdone rustling of leaves.
We learnt the importance of sound, and using it’s absence to create atmosphere.
During our preliminary task, we didn’t want to include any silence and were
unaware of the effect it could create and thus decided to fill every moment with
sound. This resulted in the product having a lot of foley sound.
We spent a lot of time in post production working on sound. So that the sounds
didn’t sound really obvious and clichéd, we experimented with different sounds to
achieve the most realistic noises. For instance, because there were no overdone
dropping noises we experimented with other noices and ended up using the sound
from an ice skate.
3. From making our preliminary task we learnt that we should play by our
strengths and that although we should challenge ourselves, we shouldn’t do
things that we’re not good at, for us, this was tracking and panning shots
When creating the plan for our final product, we deliberately avoided
tracking shots as we knew it would look bad when executed poorly
We found it a lot easier to move in and around the frame, and took mostly
static shots as opposed to the camera moving to follow them
We chose not to include any tracking shots
We did however include a pan in the opening, but decided to keep it short
4. We learnt to pay more attention to our planning and how much easier
it makes everything else to make all decisions before hand
During our p-task, we had to re-film scenes due to bad planning. Some
shots were poor quality and others the wrong shot type
This all could have been provided with more planning and a better
storyboard displaying every shot and what order they would appear in
This also made editing a lot more efficient as we did not have to
experiment with shots and knew exactly where everything was going
5. A big part of our planning for practical work, during the production of
our film opening, was made easier through the use of timetables
We began by creating availability timetables, this made working
together far more straightforward as we knew exactly when the other
was free
We also created availability timetables for our actresses, this helped us
to create shooting schedules and call sheets, which again made the
process consistantly efficient and stress free
6. When creating our p-task, we underestimated the time scale in which
things would occurred, and had to rush the post-production, for the real
production we allowed ourselves a lot more time to allow for any delays
We also learnt to devise ideas that were more feasible, and practical; in
our p-task we had eccentric and unnecessary things that complicated the
entire process. For some reason we had our actress in a dress and heels, in
the forest. This was completely unnecessary and made the process far
more tiresome
We learnt the importance of good planning in all areas of the process
7. We learnt to pay more attention to detail and to check things like the
weather before hand
When making our preliminary task, we encountered multiple
drawbacks that could have been prevented with more in depth
planning. For instance, on one occasion we could not film due to the
weather; this could have easily be prevented by checking the weather
From this we learnt to check the weather reports and be prepared fro
any weather
8. Another thing we learnt was the importance of location, but how it
may be comprised through closer shots in which the background is not
visible
For example, because the room we were filming the lipstick scene did
not contain the right mice-en-scene for the scene, we just made the
shot closer so that the background could not be seen.
9. We filmed our p-task on a video camera as the content of our footage did
not consist of intricate details that required the higher quality of a DSLR
We came to realize that we needed a higher quality camera when we
devised our original film opening whereby there were extreme close ups of
clock gears
When we started working with the DLSR we were introduced to the new
potential content for our media product
Scilicet, we learnt the differences in cameras and the pros and cons of them
both
10. When making our preliminary task, although we made some
adjustments based on comments as we went along but had no
structured forms of criticisms
We found that peer review was extremely helpful during the creation
of our product and made an effort to receive feedback from a variety of
people to produce the most appealing product we could
11. Though we developed a lot from our preliminary task, we also
developed during the creation of our film opening through processes
such as test shots
By creating an audition stage we were able to produce test shots as
well as chose what actress would be best suited to our media product
