1. Looking back at your preliminary
task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to
the full product?

2. The areas of improvement:
• Film
• Opening Sequence
• Technology
• Group Work
• Time Management
• Roles involved in production
• Preliminary compared to opening sequence.
3. Film
• Our premlinary task was simplistic and there was
less concern with the content. We now know how
much consideration goes into every aspect of the
production, especially Mise en scene and
camerawork. For instance, when looking at our
footage from many of our kitchen scenes we
often found things which needed changing
including posters in the background. In our
preliminary task, this would have been fine but
we needed to change it for our opening sequence
due to the complexity of the task.

4. Opening Sequence
• We have definitely developed a better
understanding of how important an opening
sequence is. From analysis of real opening
sequences (Bulletboy and Life is sweet ) we were
able to grasp an understanding of how an
opening sequence is used to set up the story and
to introduce the characters. From looking at our
preliminary task we realised we would have to
add more content in order to make it a successful
opening sequence. We therefore added a extra
scene in an alley in order to shape the story and
keep people watching.

5. Technology
• Our skills of editing on Imovie have developed
from our preliminary task as for our opening
sequence we needed a more complex and
dramatic film. The progression from our
preliminary task has also taught us about the
importance of charging the cameras as we
knew we would be using them for a much
longer period. For instance, when we knew we
would be going out to film, someone would
put the cameras on charge in the morning.

6. Group Work
• The progression from our preliminary task
taught us how to work together more
effectively as a group. For instance, we were
able to quickly come up with a number of
ideas and work together to pick the best one
for our opening sequence. We also had to
work together in order to make sure that we
could all meet together at a time when none
of us were working and/or had other
commitments.

7. Time Management
• We found time management more difficult for
our opening sequence than our preliminary task.
It was hard for us to arrange a time when our
actors were free and also when members of the
groups didn’t have other work to be doing. It was
also difficult to make sure that we had all of our
filming done on time and to the highest standard
possible. I think if we were to redo our opening
sequence, this is the area we would most need to
focus on and create a filming timetable.

8. Roles involved in production
• We have learnt much more about editing and
how complex it would need to be to ensure our
sequence looked more professional than our
preliminary. We have also learnt how important
sound is in order to make sure the opening
sequence is grapping the attention of our
audience. For instance, we had to add a sound of
hearts beating into a scene which was initially
going to be silent. We also had trouble finding
copyright free music which was available to use
as many sites do not offer it for free.

9. Preliminary compared to opening
sequence.
• Overall, we have developed our skills in various
different areas to ensure that our opening
sequence is more professional and interesting
than our preliminary. We have developed our
teamwork skills and improved our time
management. We were able to make effective
choices which allowed us to go from a
preliminary task which is simple and low in
content to an opening sequence which explores a
number of different issues and is far more
complex.
