3. Audience Research:
Technologies has helped a lot for me especially when it
came to audience research. When researching on the
internet about audiences of different films in
different genres, I came across useful/reliable
websites such as IMDB. Which gave me accurate
statistics to understand the thriller genre that I was
looking into. By having these resources I began to
understand what my target audience initially look for
in films and their understanding of films too etc. This
helped me pick my target audience and how to
develop/produce my film which would be appropriate
for my target audience.
4. Genre Research:
With technologies again, I was able to access
resourceful websites such as IMDB and Wikipedia to
understand the develop of the Genre. I further gained
knowledge and understanding of the type of
audience, iconography, themes, sub-genres
(psychological thriller), characters etc in the genre I
was looking into (thriller genre). When it came to
research and planning for my own film opening I
relied a lot on these resources to help me come up
with my ideas for my film opening and how would I
produce a film opening that my audience would
understand what type of genre my film is.
5. Film Research:
As a part of my blog work I had to research on various
films particularly of films to do with the genre of my
film opening. So when doing my research on films I
was able to view the film openings/title sequences on
YouTube and Art of the Title, this enabled me to
analyse the film opening by viewing them on these
websites. Furthermore, I was able to share the film
openings that I have analysed using the embed code
of the videos and putting it on my blog, so when
going through my blog people can see my work of
what I have analysed whilst being able to access/view
the video as well that I have watched.
7. Camera:
Technologies especially digital technologies has helped
me to produce the film content that I want when
watching my film opening. For example, when it came
to shooting/filming the footage for my film opening, I
was able to use different type of camera. However, I
chose to use an SLR camera because I wanted the
quality of my footage to be good and sharp when it
came to editing. But there can be downsides to digital
technologies especially as some errors can happen
such as the visuals of the SLR camera is good, but the
sound that was being taken was not a good quality of
sound, which I wasn’t able to use all the sounds from
it but I had to edit it out and add in sound afterwards.
9. Final Cut Pro:
When editing my film opening on Final Cut Pro, I had
many ways of editing my film efficiently and to be
satisfied with the outcome. For example, I was able to
use different effects like fade in/out, cross – cuts,
slow motion etc. However, because the SLR cameras
was a very good quality and the computers hadn’t
been updated, I was limited in the way I was editing
as it took long to render each individual footage
which was time consuming. This could have allowed
me to finish the film opening quicker, that’s one way
technology could have improved. Also when making
my film opening to actual movie I had to make it
compatible from an mp3 to and AFF.
10. Motion:
Using Motion was a difficult software to use as I have
never used it before but the help with going on to
YouTube to find tutorials on how to use it, I was able
to create the titles that I wanted. And add animation
movements onto them such as blur in, fade in/out
and design the titles like the colours, font etc. By
using YouTube it really helped to understand the
software “Motion” and in future I can be able to learn
more by going on more tutorials and it makes it
accessible for everyone and you don’t need someone
physically there to help you every time like your
teacher.
11. Garage Band and iTunes Music:
When it came to creating/producing my own music/sound
for my own film opening. I briefly had an idea of what
type of sound I wanted like for the main title sequence, I
wanted kind of classical/orchestral/dramatic music but
researching and finding similar artists such as Mozart on
YouTube I was inspired by their music to create my own
which I created on Garage Band. Plus creating the other
eerie, non – diegetic sound on Garage Band. Then I had to
share it on iTunes Music to transfer it to Final Cut Pro to fit
along with my shots. Moreover, when it came to my blog I
was able to put the each individual sound palette on each
blog post so people can hear the music which was really
great to see from my artist research to my final
sound/music product.
12. Getting feedback on the blog:
Technologies helps us to get feedback from other
people even from all around the world using the
communication that is provided. For example,
on my blog I can get feedback from my fellow
classmates so they can tell me what I need to
improve and maybe how I could change it, it’s a
great way of communicating. It’s also accessible
and easier for my teacher to mark my blog and
give be good feedback on what I can improve,
and I can just see that on the blog at home and
make improvements than just actually going to
my teacher and talking about it.
13. Film/Movie Distribution/Marketing:
Technology has helped us a lot in particular to distribute and
market our films to our target audience.
When distributing films to cinemas we can duplicate the film
easily through technology and distribute them straight to
the cinema by sending it through the computer, then
handing them in physical copies. Also in marketing to our
target audience I can digitally advertise my product on
social media such as Face Book etc. Even more, most films
institutions will have websites and a trailer for it to make
more hype about the film and this will further interest the
audience and it’s smart marketing for the institutions as
they would make a lot more revenue because of the
successful marketing towards the audiences.
14. What we could do with technology?
The advantages that we have with better technology
would be that it is relatively cheaper price to produce
films with digital technology. For example, with digital
cameras and editing it means that for
institutions/studios can produce films that are
easier/quicker to make. In addition to this by having
digital technology it challenges the quality of
traditional film and it’s more accessible to film
outside “The Big Six Studios”. Also with technology
we can allow our creativity that we would think is
beyond imagination to come to real life like Big
Budget CGI films because of the software created
through technologies.
15. What we couldn't do without
technology?
Before digital technology was developed properly films were
expensive to make especially 35mm films, as films makers
were restricted because of the money that were given and
equipment to shoot and edit, it also can limit in what we
can do and try to potentially achieve. Digital prints are
very expensive especially distributing to cinemas, which
again costs money for the studios/institutions to send out
to cinemas by paying transportation fees. Also without
technology we wouldn’t be able to go on the internet and
watch films, so we couldn’t analyse them properly for our
blogs etc, this is why technology is very important to us
for access many areas that wouldn’t have been able to
achieve before, technology makes it easier and simplifies
things for us, so we are capable of doing more.
