1. Reflection of p task
What was the task?
We had to create a 2-minute clip including the following:
180 degree rule, Match on action, Shot reverse shot, Conversation and walking into a
room and sitting down, Parallel editing, Graphic match and Consideration of framing –
range of shot types, Range of angles, Consideration of lighting, Tracking/panning –
movement, Consideration of mise en scene – costumes, gestures, expressions, setting,
Enigma codes and action codes.
How effectively did we plan it?
I believe our planning as a group was one of the main reasons why I believe the p task
was not successful. During planning we found it hard to make up our minds on the
motivation behind why the characters were meeting up. Deciding on who would play
the characters was easy. I & Hentrik were both willing to be in the actual video, which
left Harley doing the camera works.
Did everyone in the group contribute effectively - how could you improve this for the
main task?
Everyone contributed effectively, Harley done a lot of the camera work as me and
Hentrik were in the actual video, all 3 of us contributed to directing. Harley edited his
own version, which left me and Hentrik to edit together. The reason why we didn’t
make our own individual edits is because Hentrik is relatively new to editing, so I led and
helped him with the process as I know how to edit well.
For the main task I’d rather not be in the actual video, this is because I’d like to have
more of a chance to do camera work, which is one thing I lacked in this task.
Things which went well on the day of filming were our improvisation. Our planning was
relatively poor which led to us having very little knowledge on what we would actually
be filming. However as a group we improvised and came up with ideas as we went
along. Although this went well, it did take up a lot of unnecessary time. In the next task I
believe we would need to improve on our planning so when it comes to the day of
filming we can get straight in to and not waste any time on thinking.
