1. How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages
By Hassan Abdalla
2. • Technology plays a huge part in the media in
the present day. Everyday technology is
becoming more advanced and complex. The
possibilities of making thing have become
wider and there are more opportunities for
people to express themselves and also to
explore the media as the technology have
gave them different platforms to access it.
3. Web 2.0 and 3.0
• Web 2.0 is the second generation of the internet,
it allows people to share and collaborate
information online. Web 2.0 allows open
communication between people through the
internet.
• Web 3.0 is the third generation of the internet. It
is thought to be more advanced than web 2.0 and
will work efficiently and will tailor your search
according to your previous history
4. The internet
• My whole coursework is posted on the internet. I am blogging on
“wordpress” as it allows me to share video, text, pictures and other
content from slideshare or prezi.
• The internet was very useful in our planning and research stages.
The internet allowed me to look up information that I needed to
research for example I needed to find out what are the general
convention of a dram/coming of age film and I could find that on
the internet straight away.
• Youtube was very helpful as I viewed a wide amount of films on
there to get inspiration and to get an idea of how to film my film
and what standards were there for me to live up to.
• When I get confused using Photoshop I would go on the internet to
find out a solution either on the Photoshop website or independent
blogs.
• I would use the internet the day before filming to find out the
weather forecast, and also to see if there is any delays on the train.
• Over all the internet was very helpful at different stages of this
course as it allowed me to do things very efficiently form a
computer.
5. Photoshop and Indesign.
• When making my poster I used Photoshop to help me in
this process. Photoshop allowed me to do all different
types of things for example I could change the lighting
setting or the contrast between the colours, I could merge
two pictures together as in my case I merged 4 pictures
together, I was able to add text on top of my pictures and
to excrement around with different filters and distortion.
• Indesign is very similar to photoshop as they are created by
the same company but Indesign handles text better so it
was a great choice for me to create my review through
Indesign. I allowed me to create columns and snap the text
into place so it would look professional. It allowed me to
post a picture on it so my review would not be boring. The
settings were very useful as I could experiment around with
the content to make it the best.
6. Camera
• To film my self and Harry Donnelly used an SLR Canon
camera which was a great help as it allowed us to film
in high resolution but it also allowed us to used
complexes settings so we can film to the best of our
ability, we could alter the lighting levels, colours etc.
WE also used the Canon camera to take pictures for the
posters which was very easy to use and I could use
setting to capture a motion of 5 seconds in 20 pictures.
This allowed me to find the right picture which is very
accurate to my work and I could maximise my ideas
through this. The content was saved on an SD card
which is very easy to import material from to the
computer.
7. Final Cut Pro x
• We are very lucky to be using Final cut pro X as our editing software as its well organised and
very easy to use.
• Final cut Pro X is a software for OS X by apple. It is the latest software that has been released
by the company. It supports up to 4K resolution and it works very fast. Some of its excellent
features include;
Magnetic Timeline: This edits footage in a story line without taking other audio or footage
out, when clips are added to the timeline they connect automatically with each other, when
one clip moved other clips move in sync.
Multicam: The multicam tool supports up to 64 angles of photos and video. it also
automatically aligns footage based on time of day, time code, markers, or audio
waveform, individually or in various customization combinations.
Compound Clips: This allows other clips to join and combine into one for simplicity.
Merged Clips: this takes multiple clips and and creates a new compound clip containing all of
them. It also synchronizes them by comparing audio from other clips from other devices and
they can all be merged.
Database Engine: apples core database engine has been Incorporated into this software. This
makes the program more organised.
• Final cut pro x was very helpful in the post production stages as we could put or film together
there and make it to what we want it to be using different setting and special effects.
8. Phones
• I used my phone several rimes during the process
of the making of this film, for example I would
use my phone to take pictures of what we are
doing to post it on my blog later on that day,
phones were the key way of communication
between each other as that is vital when working
in a group. My iPhone was a platform to view
media products on the go as its portable and it
was very efficient for me to use. When trying to
find videos I would use my phone as it’s a
platform for many things and its very synergised.
