NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION IMPROVES RELATIONSHIPS
To improve communication, think and practice consciously for a month about
these facets of non verbal communication including:
EYE CONTACT- Look in eyes, otherwise look at forehead or mouth
FACIAL EXPRESSIONS- Learn to smile. Universal expressions include
happiness, sadness, anger, fear, disgust and surprise
GESTURES- Use hand gestures to complement or emphasize what you say
PHYSICAL SPACE BETWEEN PEOPLE- Keep adequate distance between you
and other people (2-3 feet/ variable), watch for physical barriers
TONE OF VOICE (Inflection & Vocal Variety) - Avoid monotone with pitch, rate
of speed and volume
TOUCH- Firm handshake, soft hug
POSTURE- Stand & sit erect. Keep your head up, shoulders back and chest out
Adopt non-verbal communication styles that fit with your personality
