4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
Digital Revolution has enabled us to create developed forms of media in comparison
to the 60s when music videos were newly produced. During this time period we have
a greater advantage in terms of the type of technologies we are able to use for our own
productions. In the media industry technology continues to develop rapidly and it is
extremely difficult for producers and directors to keep up with what’s in the public
eye as it continuously changes over time.
The internet is an effective and efficient form of technology and it was essential in the
construction, research and evaluation stages of our finished product. The use of
advanced technology allows us to gain an insight into the media industry and the way
in which they operate as a business. We used YouTube to help us with our planning
and research while we
analysed existing music
videos of the same genre as
the song we selected. Our
initial ideas developed from
watching successful videos
on the internet and it
enabled us to identify
conventions we needed to
include in our production.
Once both mine and
Shianne’s ideas were put
together, we created a
storyboard for our initial ideas and the sequence we wanted the various shots to
follow. Then we used a digital camera from the school to take pictures of the
storyboard to upload onto our blog as part of the planning stages of our video.
Adobe Premier Pro was the editing software we used on Apple Mac laptops during
our media lessons to construct our music video ‘Mexico’. We experimented with a
range of transitions to reinforce the genre for example, the fading out which we used
the most often highlights the subtle change which fits the indie style. In comparison
with the pop genre which would need to use sudden shots which flash at a fast pace to
suggest energy and reflect the upbeat music.
