1. How did you use media
technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation
stages
By Ben, Mel, Barn
2. As a group the first thing we
decided to do is to subscribe to
Mel and Lucy's YouTube channel “
The Jordi Fanclub” in order to
get a sense of what genre of
music we would be working in
order to be able to follow codes
and conventions of that genre.
This was vital in creating brand
identity for the duo
We also used YouTube in order to look
at tutorials for things we were not
sure on how to use comfortably, an
example was photoshop when
creating our ancillary tutorials in
order to tasks. It also came in helpful
for FinalCutPro it our video in order
to make it look most professional.
YouTube was also used when
our final production was
complete in order to be able to
showcase our final piece to
followers of the YouTube
channel. The reason for this is
due to it YouTube being easy
accessible world wide
YouTube is an American video-
sharing website headquartered in
San Bruno, California. The service
was created by three former PayPal
employees—Chad Hurley, Steve
Chen, and Jawed Karim—in February
2005. Google bought the site in
November 2006 for US$1.65 billion;
YouTube now operates as one of
Google's subsidiaries.
3. Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries.
It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs
are hosted by Google at a subdomain of blogspot.com. Blogs can also be hosted in the
registered custom domain of the blogger. Blogger was a key media technology in the whole
process of our A2 media coursework. Blogger was key in saving and uploading our research
and planning to a blog to demonstrate our work. We used blogger to show our planning at
the start of the project then used in the end with helping present our evaluation. Using
labels on blogger we were able to chronologically order and make our work easily
accessible when on the blog. This was useful as it showed our progression of work and
made it easier in being able to see what we had done. Due to Blogger being a key media
technology we were able to upload prezis, PowerPoints, photos, and videos which proved
to be an extremely helpful resource. Blogger Offred an easy and reliable way of strong our
research, planning, ancillary tasks, the final music video and the evaluation.
Below is screenshots of Blogger and the layout it presented when logging into the blog,
referenced on blog:
4. Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems
for macOS and Windows. Photoshop is used to develop and produce media related
products such as magazines with various different effects and Despite our main task
being a video, we still used photoshop when planning and creating our ancillary tasks. As
a group we felt the most comfortable using this software in order to edit our digipaks as
we all have had previous experience with photoshop when creating our AS media
production. The main use of photoshop was to enhance photos we had taken and also to
put text around pictures in order to be conveying with our codes and conventions. We
used photoshops for placing photos such as barcodes on our digipaks. Photoshop allowed
us to emphasize on the bright colours in order to make the digipak stand out.
The photos below our from 2 early stage mock ups in the mock up phase of planning and
creating our various ancillary tasks:
5. Facebook is an American online social media and social networking
service company based in Menlo Park, California. Its website was
launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg, along with fellow
Harvard College students and roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew
McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Facebook proved to be a
useful social media tool in terms of us setting up our focus group.
Facebook made it easy to access our focus group and post pictures of
our digipak layouts. It was also useful in our group being able to arrange
time and dates for filming of our music video, and being able to
communicate with one and another. The band also had a Facebook page
we set up to spread word for the band and make it more realistic, the
Facebook page was called “The Jordi Fan Club”.
The screenshot below shows how we effectively communicated with the
focus group for advice on our various ancillary tasks: These can all be
referenced in the blog
6. Wix.com is a cloud-based web development platform that was first developed
and popularized by the Israeli company also called Wix. It allows users to
create HTML5 web sites and mobile sites through the use of online drag and
drop tools Users may add functionality such as social plug-ins, e-commerce,
online marketing, contact forms, e-mail marketing, and community forums to
their web sites using a variety of Wix-developed and third-party applications.
We also used the website WIX which allows you to create your own website.
We used this in order to give the band a website as one of the ancillary tasks
in order to be conforming to codes and conventions. We created a website
with pictures of the band at local locations with the sea in the background to
be conforming to our codes and conventions to nature.
Below are screenshots from the wix website, it shows what the viewer would
see when opening up the website: As referenced in the blog.
7. Prezi is a presentation software company founded in 2009, with offices in San
Francisco, Budapest, and Riga. As of November 2017, Prezi's community of 85
million users had created more than 325 million public presentations.
Throughout the process of making a music video, we decided to use different
ways to present our research. This proved an effective way of presenting
research as it gave us various different dimensions to research our planning.
Prezi was used when we wanted to present our research in another way at the
start of the process with the analysis of music videos which is able to be seen
in our blog. It gave us the ability to present our research into a number of
music videos in our genre of music. Prezi let us present in a quirky way and
gave another element to our research.
Below are screenshots of our various prezi presentations, these can all be seen
and are referenced on the blog:
8. The camera we used for filming our music video was the Cannon 1003D, we used this camera as it is
a professional looking camera and is able to capture high definition shots that look professional and
realistic. We also decided as a group to use this camera as Mel and Barney had previous experience
using the camera and felt able that using this specific camera would get the shots we needed in
order to fit in with the criteria.
The details of the camera are as follows:
Product Dimensions: 8 x 13.3 x 10 cm ; 572 g
Boxed-product Weight: 2 Kg
Batteries 1 Lithium ion batteries required.
Item model number: 5170B072AA
ASIN: B004MPQXZ0
Below are various shots that we took in the research stage of potential places that we would use when
creating our music video, all pictures referenced in the blog on the location scouting section:
9. Final Cut Pro is a series of non-linear video editing software programs first developed by
Macromedia Inc. and later Apple Inc. The most recent version, Final Cut Pro X 10.4.2,
runs on Intel-based Mac computers powered by macOS High Sierra or later. The software
allows users to log and transfer video onto a hard drive where it can be edited and
processed. The fully rewritten Final Cut Pro X was introduced by Apple in 2011, with the
last version of the legacy Final Cut Pro being version 7.0.3.
Final Cut Pro was extremely useful and important as this was the software we decided
to use to edit our music video to get it to a professional looking standard. Final Cut Pro
made it easy to use and had a wide variety of effects which we included. An example of
this is the effect we deployed before our main protagonist puts his glasses on after
being in bed and until he puts them on the effect does not go and gives the idea of him
gaining full vision. We decided to use final cut pro due to member of the groups
previous experience with the software making the decision a no brainer in terms of
which editing software we were going to use for our music video. Final cut pro was
effective and made our video look professional and to a good standard due to the
various effects and cuts we were able to do with the footage we had gained from our
filming.
10. Google is an American multinational technology company that specializes in
Internet-related services and products, which include online advertising
technologies, search engine, cloud computing, software, and hardware.
Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were
PHD students at Stanford University, California. Together, they own about 14
percent of its shares and control 56 percent of the stockholder voting power
through super voting stock. They incorporated Google as a privately held
company on September 4, 1998. In terms of when using google it is a common
but useful tool as it proved extremely useful when we had to gather research
into various music videos in our genre and also research into our specific
target audience. This is all referenced in the blog. Google helped us
efficiently scale the world wide web and view many different websites with
different research that proved helpful, such as target audience research for
the folk band Mumford & Sons. Google also helped us massively as all the
previous media technologies except photoshop was accessed through Google.
It also allowed us to view various different bands in our genres website so we
were able to view codes and conventions for music websites in our genre.
Below are various different things that we searched into the search bar of
google:
