1. Distributed Gardens If we all grow a little we can accumulate a lot. If 1 out of 6 Americans is hungry, then that leaves 5 out of 6 that are in a position to help out. If everyone in America grows a garden, then their surplus food could help feed the hungry, providing a sustainable solution to help feed people near them that are hungry. Key achievements to make this concept a reality would be: 1. ENCOURAGE everybody in America to grow a garden. 2. ESTABLISH a network of locations where people with surplus food from their garden can donate their food. 3. EDUCATE garden growers on the locations where they can donate produce. 4. EDUCATE people that are hunger that they can get food from the donation centers. 5. EDUCATE people how to prepare easy meals with the produce that is available. (Provide them with easy, simple recipes so that they can make good use of the available produce). * Note: This idea was originally inspired by Maggie’s High Rise Gardens entry
