Kiener, Robert. "Should government regulate unhealthy foods?" CQ researcher. CQ researcher, 3
Oct. 2014. Web. 15 October 2014.
The main point from this report by Author Robert Keiner is the regard to food policy debates. The
Author is a free lance writer in Vermont who has an M.A. in Asian studies, and seems reliable due to
him using more than one point of view and not just his own. The Authors audience is probably
people who look at unhealthy food as a problem in the world, and agree that healthy food is a better
choice. This report is just another explanation on why unhealthy foods can be bad for you, but it was
explained very thoroughly with a lot of helpful information. The graphs and maps shown on the
report are very useful for my research because it shows information about how much organic food,
and fast food people consume. This resource was found using the online Rio Salado Library on CQ

C. Ni Mhurchu. "Monitoring the availability of healthy and unhealthy foods and non–alcoholic
beverages in community and consumer retail food environments globally." Obesity reviews.
Academic Search Premier. Oct. 2013. Web. 16 October 2014.
The main point of this review is about retail food environments and the influence it has on dietary
behaviors and health outcomes. The Author of the review is C. Ni Mhurchu and is from the National
Institute for Heath Innovation, so he seems qualified for this kind of issue and is Porter 4 reliable
with the facts that are given. The audience for this review are people who have the same feelings on
obesity, and the overall affects that retail food environments can have on people and their health.
This reviews relationship with the other sources is that it comes down to unhealthy food and obesity,
and how it can overall be managed for the sake of peoples health. In this review the thing that stood
out to me is all of the facts that are given, they are useful for me and for other people in learning
about this issue. This review was found using the online Rio Salado Library on EBSCO Academic

2.1 Web Accessibility
Currently the use of multimedia such as sound, still images, moving images are all used in all
website to make their content more interesting and to make the design of the website aesthetically
pleasing, interesting and easy to read. Therefore, it is a necessity to think how accessible of the
content of the website is, this is called 'web accessibility ' which accommodates all the users, such as
those with disabilities, normal users, or elderly. This is particularly important for those with
disabilities, websites should be made with consideration for this group and the content and services
should be made accessible as equal as those normal users (Henry, 2006). Carter and Markel (2001)
found that only 1% of web developers pay attention to the accessibility of the website, this is
because most web developers believe that to make the website accessible a lot of resources would be
required, such as times and money. Currently, there are many websites being developed and more
users using. When websites are designed without any

Examples Of Software For Disabled Operators
Software for Disabled Operators For individuals without the proper aids, a physical or
developmental disability can hinder their ability to live a productive life. In today's technology–
dependent world being unable to access a computer or other mobile device is not only inconvenient,
it can seriously inhibit access to employment and services, as well as social media. Assistive
software designed to bridge the gap between the user and the interface is crucial to helping those
with disabilities gain access to the same prospects as those who are not disabled. Assistive software
can take many forms, from dictation software that makes speech–to–text possible for those who
cannot work a keyboard to screen readers that narrate text for those who ... Show more content on

The doing ethics technique The technique of analysis depends upon asking questions. It has been
found that the order in which the questions are asked is also important. The following questions, in
this order, have been found to work best (through trial and error over many semesters). Q1 What is
going on? – What are the facts? Q2 What are the issues? Q3 Who is affected? Q4 hence, What are
the ethical issues and implications? Q5 What can be done about it? – What options are there? and
Q6 Which option is best? – and Why? Benefits An injunction to 'think ethically' about a situation is
not helpful. Perhaps if one has a background in moral philosophy this would work, but usually both
students and IT professionals require some form of guidance as to how to achieve an appropriate
outcome. The technique has proven itself as a means to achieving this, at least for PIIT students.
This approach is not dependent on a particular standard, such as the code of ethics of a particular
professional society. It is a technique that can be applied in a variety of circumstances, not limited
by technological, cultural or religious background. The approach is not limited by one's moral
philosophy. One can use this technique effectively and be an objectivist, holding that certain moral
truths remain good independently of personal likes and dislikes, or a relativist, holding that truths
are relative to the individual

Ontarians With Disabilities Act Essay
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) assists Ontarians by "developing,
implementing and enforcing accessibility standards in order to achieve accessibility for Ontarians
with disabilities...". This act creates a standard that must be met through all facets of society.
Whether it be in an in–store customer experience, in the workplace or online, AODA lays a
framework that will assist in the day–to–day lives of Ontarians with disabilities. This act greatly
impacts the IT field, in that it changes the way IT professionals utilize technology, in order to assist

Assistive Technology And Eportfolios Can Pair Well Assist...
Assistive technology and ePortfolios can pair well to assist disabled students and help create and
maintain an environment for learning that will promote respect for and appreciation of human
diversity. As time and technology goes on there have been great strides in integrating the blind into
society on a basis of equality, ensuring full access to information technology and resources. College
or university students with disabilities could use the ePortfolio to showcase their characteristics of
their learning strengths, styles, and needs. An ePortfolio made accessible to the visually impaired
student could participate along with other students as a team member in an inclusive environment
for a class project, a senior capstone or any other use of the digital portfolio. Just like any other
student, an ePortfolio that equips the visually impaired through assistive technology can be a
valuable tool in conveying that student's interests and abilities. As assistive technology improves
and various multimodal technologies integrate, an ePortfolio can create opportunities for students
with disabilities. There are currently several accessibility issues facing digital portfolio projects for
disabled students and the need for better technical support, and according to Oswal (2013), "besides
ensuring the accessibility of the ePortfolio system, making use of only accessible tools for content
development is central to disabled students' success with their portfolio projects." Once

Analysis of Starbucks web site
How corporate web site should look like in 2012 and which requirements it should follow to be
successful and to help organization to implement its strategy? Let's explore this topic on the
example of Starbucks Company.
Today accessibility became the defining factor for future success of a corporate web site. Your
adventure starts if you can access company's official site. Can the web site be open in any electronic
device? Can people with disabilities access it with keyboard only? Starbucks web site home page

Additionally it gives an additional description of the section, if person visits the web site for the first
time and who doesn't want to walk around and explore all information. Logo at the left corner on the
top of the web page represents a home page bottom, that looks beautiful and stylish, but for some
people it could be unclear as we mentioned in our class discussions. The other interesting section is
"Responsibility" that promotes Starbucks as conscious and fair organization. From the following
structure it can be suggested that main purpose of the company is a promotion among all group of
stakeholders: customers, employees, government, current and future partners. Design and
informational structure of the web site lead user through the content and pursues its main objective:
to increase commercial results and benefits in direct and indirect ways, as increasing value by social
responsibility initiatives.
If stakeholders cannot find appropriate information, they could use search field (SEO), which is easy
to find at the top of the page. Web accessibility information according to web standards is also
available on the Starbucks web site, as well as all legal requirements were met. Starbucks web site is

Binge Drinking And The Minimum Legal Drinking Age

Binge Drinking and the Minimum Legal Drinking Age
In the year 1984, President Ronald Reagan enacted a law that increased the minimum drinking Age
all U.S states to 21 years. As a result, it is believed that the mortality rates due to road accidents
reduced from 5,000 in the 80's to 2, 000 in 2005 (Dean–Mooney). However, the issue of binge
drinking remains unsolved with learning institutions having to deal with it every semester. In
response to this, 134 college presidents formed the Amethyst Initiative, which is, a proposal
allowing persons aged between 18 and 20 to consume alcoholic drinks Conversely, the Mothers
against Drunk Driving (MADD), which pushed for the enactment of the law in 1984 believes that
the Amethyst Initiative is misplaced. The push for a lower drinking age is a battle between the
parental community and the student fraternity. For the drinking age too be lowered the Amethyst
Initiative must compile concrete research and facts to support its findings. Nonetheless, historical
data shows that increase in the minimum legal drinking age results in a decrease in the amount of
deaths. As argued by Barry, Stellefson and Woosley, "the MLDA clearly reduces alcohol
consumption and its associated harms" (8). In light of this, one can argue that the minimum drinking
age should remain at 21 as lowering it may cause fatal consequences.
The factors can be broadly classified as internal, such as

heavily laced with graphical icons and the screen resolution is set to 1440 x 900. Late in the
development process, your company signed a contract with the federal government. This means all
applications need to comply with the ADA and Section 508. What kind of impact does that have on

You are still in the design phase of development, and the stakeholders come to you and inform you
that you need to make sure the CMS has a Web–interface and is cross–platform. While the Web–
interface was always a consideration, you were originally intending it to be a product usable on one
specific O/S. How does now having to make sure there is a Web interface impact the design? Now
that you have to make sure the CMS is cross–platform, how does that impact the design? What are
other issues that could arise for this? Luckily in this scenario the design was still in its development
phase. Any change in the program is basically irrelevant now. Meaning it is early in the
developmental stage better a change comes up here than further down the road, especially if the Web
Interface was already in consideration. This should have made the switch basically easy. So
basically a well discussed plan should be made with the stake holders and make sure this is what
everyone wants from the project. A change down the road would be devastating and might make the
project harder to complete. Even though the CMS will be changed to cross platform the impact as
stated above should be very minimal. The code will have to be changed but a good project manager
should be able to adapt to the change and handle any complications that may come up. By assigning
the proper personal to the proper task should handle any change that could

The Assessment Of A Community 's Decision For Real Initiative
According to Monmonier (1996), those who do have Internet and GIS accessibility face the
potential to be placed in a vulnerable position. He believes that the public who is "armed with a GIS
but lacking the savvy to use the system appropriately becomes vulnerable to sarcastic attacks from
site advocates". Meaning, that a community's opinion may not be taken seriously or may be
misrepresented in the eyes of policymakers because the people in that community may not be using
the GIS software correctly, therefore they do not comprehend the data that is being presented to
them in a GIS platform. This connects to another complication, that the general public may not have
the basic training requirements needed to properly understand GIS software. Referring back to
Carver, et al (2001), one of the issues they encountered during the observation of the
Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation's Planning for Real initiative was a general lack of familiarity
with GIS software, especially from older age groups of manual trade.
The solution to these issues cannot be resolved in a short period of time as these are mainly socio–
economic complications, however, attainable solutions are present. As far as GIS comprehensive,
this will become less of an issue as more people become familiar with using computers and maps
through work and education (Carver et al, 2001). As mentioned earlier in Baker's (2005) article,
strides are being made to teach K–12 students Web GIS, for digital learning

bestseller, the same titled movie and other food–related documentary movies such as "Super Size

people's awareness of healthy food in last decade. However, the recent article of Time magazine

not only try to replace unhealthy foods with healthier ones, but also increase accessibility and
affordability of healthy food for the families that cannot afford them. This cannot be done by profit–
motivated private companies. What the initiative is doing here is just to show all the stakeholders
including parents, families, schools, communities, health care, industry, media, and government a
right direction to solve the problem and let them get involved it with their own initiatives. There has
been a strong concern, however, that unhealthy fast–food has been served and advertised at cafeteria
in public schools nationwide and legislation against serving and promoting these foods may be
necessary to solve the problem. Schlosser revealed in his book ten years ago that "nation's food
chains are marketing their products in public schools" (Schlosser 52) and points out that "about 30
percent of the public high schools in the United States offer branded fast food" (Schlosser 56). In

Heroin In the Streets of Illinois
Who would expect that a town known for their excellent education systems, well developed
economy, and rapid population expansion to have the highest record of heroin deaths in one year in
the United States? Naperville, Illinois, is a suburb of Chicago, has been dealing with the loss of
seven young adults from overdoses of heroin in 2011 (Wilson). The early deaths of these young
people are completely avoidable. Having proper knowledge of the warning signs that heroin
displays can help; but to further the knowledge, having videos available to watch helps parents talk
to their kids about drug use. Better communication can always help any problem, which is another
tactic that the city of Naperville is planning to do.

One of the filmmakers stated that they felt like the use of heroin went underground after the film
was released because parents and others learned the secrets of drugs after watching it (Healy). This
was the film that brought Naperville together to work towards a safer community.
The shaken Naperville community is beginning to take steps to stop the craze of heroin. The city of
Naperville realized that it needed to have the whole community involved– including schools, local
businesses, and religious groups. KidsMatter is a nonprofit organization that created
ParentsMatterToo which is aimed to help parents raise kids who avoid drugs. Having a strong
connection between parent and child can dramatically alter the outcome of their lives. A local article
states that: "67% of youngsters believe their parents are their biggest influence with regard to
staying drug–free" (Welge). Creating a bong between parent and child can save a life.
ParentsMatterToo has interactive videos and support groups which is offered to anyone wanting to
know more (Wilson). Having this opportunity to become educated about drugs can give parents
more comfort when talking to their kid about drug use and prevention.
ParentsMatterToo provides endless information about drug use, a common topic that would be
discussed with the support groups would be the warning signs. Parents need to be observant if they

Guidelines And Standards For Making Accessible And Usable...
4.1 Guidelines and Standards for Making Accessible and Usable websites
There are different kinds of standards and guidelines available to assist web designers to develop
their web to be accessible and usable for all users including blind user. Most Guidelines and
standards are vital from a practical standpoint. However, it is also important to be aware of that the
guidelines and standards cannot accommodate all users all of the time. The areas where the
guidelines or standards are not practical or vital, it needs to be clearly identified and alternate
methods need to be known in order to achieve accessibility and usability. From the time when the
introduction of the WCAG 2.0 in 2008, there are a selection of success criteria and methods
suggested that could be used to achieve usability and accessibility (Zeldman & Marcotte 2010).
The guidelines and standards by which most accessibility and usability practitioners develop and
evaluate websites is Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, which are updated standards developed
by The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) (Caldwell et al. 2010). According to the web guidelines
and standards, all websites are legally obliged to ensure that they are accessible and usable to all
users including those who have disabilities such as blindness. Any Website that have links,
applications and security procedures that cannot be "read" by screen readers are according to the

2.5 Thailand Information and Communication Technology Policy Framework (2011–2020)
(Thailand Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, n.d.)
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology have declared to use a Policy
Framework, it is stated in Strategy number 6, where one of the focus is for "ICT to enhance social
equality" to lower the disparities in society and also to promote equality when it comes to accessing
resources in these strategic actions, 6.4 states that electronic access should be accessible to
everyone, and that it should coincide with the needs of daily lives of the people. This is further
enforced with laws relating to ICT, such as Web Accessibility Standards to make everyone can
access websites equally.
2.6 Thai Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (TWCAG)
For Thailand, since 2007, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology have seen
the problems with accessing websites for the disabled. Therefore, they have produced the "Thai Web
Content Accessibility Guidelines 2010" (TWCAG 2010) to combat this problem. In addition to this,
they have also encouraged different parties to improve their websites such that it accommodates, the
disabled and elderly, such that they can access websites easily. They have used the WCAG 2.0 as a
starting point and modified it to suit a circumstance in Thailand (Ministry of Information and
Communication Technology, 2010).

The Forgotten: How the Disabled are Left out of Disaster Preparedness
Introduction to Disaster
The catastrophes of Hurricane Katrina and the Indonesia Tsunami are prime examples of events that
have focused our attention on the increased necessity for the analysis of risk, disaster preparedness,
and hazard mitigation. These catastrophes, occurring inside the space of one year, are exceptional in
not only their level of destruction but also in their level of media attention. Supplementary disasters,
such as the Kobe earthquake in 1995, can exceed the death toll of a whole year in a solitary quick
event. Cities like Tokyo are at an increased risk for different types of destructive events ranging ...

Most of the hospitals are located in large urban areas in the country so it's densely packed in the
Central and Greater Accra regions (Oliver's Google Map, 2015). This means that there are very little
hospitals in rural areas which is where we need them most, because that's the area where people
have little access to them due to transportation issues and how far away it is from them. Money from
the Global Fund spent in transportation will be used to help build new roads and public
transportation services in more rural areas to increase the accessibility to health services. These
actions can be helped reached by coordinating and working together with the CHPS (Community–
based health planning services) who's already working on transportation barriers in the country
(Nyonator). They can help disperse and allocate funds to areas in most need of them ranked by
prevalence of HIV in the region and number of hospitals. The education barrier trend follows a
similar pattern as the lack of accessibility to health in rural areas (Oliver's Google Map, 2015).
Schools are mostly located in urban areas in the same regions where most hospitals are located

This section of the design document will focus on the user experience, GUI design standards as well
as components that address mobile accessibility standards. The images below are design for the

information about the subject is limited due to a search engine optimization to restrain text to not

COVERAGE IN HEALTHY FEEDING PROGRAMS ACROSS TEXAS DISTRICTS This letter
seeks to provide a detailed exposition of a multi–faceted aspect of the challenge of food insecurity in
Texas and a proposal of clear–cut practical solutions. The hope is that through the publication of this
piece, the issue will assume centre stage and attract the needed response. Over the years, notable
healthy feeding intervention programs across different government and community levels have been
channelled to Texas in response to the much–documented challenge of widespread food insecurity
across the state. These programs have contributed in varying degrees to mitigating the crisis of food
insecurity in the state (Children at Risk, 2016). However, progress in retention of beneficiaries and
expansion of coverage has remained a real challenge. For there to be a sustained substantial reversal
of food insecurity in Texas, a clear determination backed by concrete plans to remove obstacles to
continued coverage and expansion for further inclusion must be prioritized. It is important to renew
critical focus on the devastating impact of food insecurity and its vast spread in the United States in

According to Americans with Disabilities Act and similar other laws and regulations in other
countries often instruct equal access to computer systems for users with disabilities. There will be
legal obligation to facilitate intranet use by disabled employees who may not be able to do their job
if they cannot access their organization internal websites. Making the Web more accessible for users
with various persons with disabilities is to a great extent a matter of using HTML the way it was

Usability In HCI Research
Usability An information system is only useful to all of its stakeholders if targeted users consider it
usable. The importance of usability in technology adoption and usage is underscored by the
dedication of substantial amount of HCI research to provide definitions, propose techniques,
methods and guidelines for improving it [1, 6]. Although there is no widely agreed upon definition
for usability, in this paper, we adopt the ISO definition given as: "the extent to which a product can
be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction
in a specified context of use" [21]. Seniors & Usability of technology As people age, physiological

Scapin and colleagues [53] define Web Usability Guidelines (WUG) as "statement[s] ensuring some
adequacy of a particular user interface of a website with respect to a particular context of use where
a given user population has to fulfill interactive tasks with a given system". WUG has been used to
extensively evaluate health websites and some PHR both for seniors and younger adults [56, 57]. A
Popular WUG is the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Guideline also called the Web Content
Accessibility Guideline (WCAG). It is a universal guideline aimed at ensuring that web content is
accessible to people with disability (age related or not). A more senior specific guideline is the
checklist from the National Institute of Aging and National Library of Medicine. Its principles are
quite similar to the WCAG except for some exclusions which may or may not limit its usefulness

As the corporate world has developed over the years, there has been an increase as well as a change
in the systems in which are used for recruiting. Due to the advancement of technology, there has
been an increase in the use of the internet or intranet to recruit people applicable for the job; this is
referred to as e–recruiting. This has allowed for the recruitment process to be made simpler and
quicker which is a driving force for business enterprises to adopt and utilise this recruitment system.
(Lakshmi, n.d). This essay will be an attempt to discuss the value of e–recruitment systems and
through the use of journals there will be a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of e–

According to Lakshmi (n.d) there are a number of advantages for e–recruiting mentioned. Through
the use of e–recruiting, delays that occur when hiring are reduced, therefore, business enterprises are
able to fill vacancies efficiently and effectively. The costs required for recruiting are reduced as well
as the dependence on recruitment agencies are eliminated. The administration side of recruiting is
downsized; therefore, there is more time for HR initiatives. Through the use of the internet,
candidates interested in e–recruiting are exposed to the websites of enterprises which increases the
brand awareness. According to Afshar and Fayyazi (2013) e–recruitment allows for a larger pool of
candidates for companies to select from as well as increasing the chances of the company finding
the right applicant to withhold the position. Companies that make use of e–recruiting stand a better

The Americans with Disability Act Essay
Usability is a critical portion of web design that one must be ever mindful of when constructing
websites. Whether creating a personal web space or building multiple pages for a large corporation,
it is the burden of the designer to guarantee people can access that content. According to the United
Nations, disabled people compose roughly 10 percent of the world's population (United Nations,
2010). Many regulations and standards have been set forth to provide disabled people with the same
opportunities to access content available on the World Wide Web, as it is most of the World's
population.

In order to comply, there are particular methods for ensuring that web sites are ADA compliant.
When considering visually impaired person one must use text colors that are easy to read with the
right combinations of colors as well as the right contrast adjustments. Additionally, color blindness
must be considered. There must be an alternative to images for individuals who cannot view them in
their browsers as well (for example, <alt="text">). In addition, the use of screen reading capabilities
must be taken into account due to users that are visually impaired. For persons with hearing
impairments, audio content must have a text alternative provided, besides this, for users who use
alternative speech inputs, there should be a text equivalent. Web designers should also direct their
attention to other disabling conditions such as the need for alternative navigation elements for
people with learning disabilities or lower motor skills. There are also many tools available to web
designers to ensure that their sites are compliant with current ADA laws. In accordance with the
ADA's mission statement, the World Wide Consortium (W3) created the Web Accessibility Initiative
(WAI). In turn, the (WAI) developed a set of guidelines (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
[WCAG]) with the intent of providing remedies for design concerns that may arise when designing
with the needs of disabled people in mind. The WAI purpose is a means for developing standards,

Terawasi Student ID: 21103436 Date Submitted: 10 April 2015 Executive Summary The ASP.NET
Framework offers a development environment that comes with various tools and technologies that
aid developers in building enterprise–class web services, websites, and web apps. Along with this
ASP.NET is part of the Microsoft .NET Framework which gives the ability to utilize classes within
the .NET Framework. With the implementation of Cloud computing platforms and ASP.NET the
benefits offered by combining the two proves to be significant in terms of cutting down costs,
management, maintenance, and the need for resources since most cloud providers are already
providing SaaS (software–as–a–service), PaaS (platform–as–a–service), and IaaS (infrastructure–
as–a–service) altogether. However demand to move onto the cloud is substantially increasing
resulting in the massive surge of cloud providers coming into existence. With various cloud provider
competitors out there Windows Azure which is a Microsoft cloud platform is one of the more
notable cloud providers when it comes to ASP.NET applications and services over the web.

World Wide Consortium
Tim Bernes–Lee in 1989 created the World Wide Web, and in 1994 he and a few others established
the World Wide Consortium. (a) The World Wide Consortium's mission is "to lead the world wide
web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long–term growth for the
web (a)." This is an international organization with a variety of members making up the
organization. They all have a common goal which is to make the web standardized with rules and

The World Wide Consortium has had three long–standing goals. These are to provide universal

The great bulk of the world's websites are currently unsuccessful in providing access for people with
disabilities. (E) A great majority of disabled people have difficulty because of clutter, complex web
arrangements, and unclear navigation tools. Americans with Disabilities has not yet taken any
company to court over unfair equal access law, however the commission is ready to take action and
they would have a good chance in court.(F) Any company that chooses to not change their website
to accommodate people with disabilities could be sued under the Disability Discrimination Act.(F)
On the bright side studies show that when you increase accessibility of your site for people with
disabilities, you also increase it by about fifty percent for all other users.(F)
Coming up with a way for people who are blind to access the web has been a major challenge. In
1999, the organization developed computer–programming guidelines so that people who are blind
can have access to the internet; nevertheless these guidelines are currently only followed if the
company wants too. A few countries have made these guidelines the law, leading this practice is
Britain. In the US these guidelines and recommendations are only required if you belong to a federal

What is the WAI?
The WAI, or the Web Accessibility Initiative, is a set of guidelines and recommendations for web
designers and developers, laid out by the W3C, or the World Wide Web Consortium, to ensure that
websites are designed in a way that makes them accessible and user–friendly to all people, including
people with disabilities or special needs. While the primary focus of this initiative is to aid people
with disabilities, such as the blind and the deaf, it also aims to establish guidelines for other groups
of people such as older people, people with low literacy or language skills, people with low

4. Robust – Content should be robust and flexible enough to remain accessible to the user as
technologies advance (Introduction to Understanding WCAG 2.0, n. d.).
There are five requirements which must be met in order to determine whether a website conforms to
the guidelines of the WCAG. These are:
1. Conformance Level – The conformance level of a website to the WCAG guidelines is ranked
using three levels of conformance. These are A, AA and AAA, with A being the lowest level of
conformance and AAA being the highest level of conformance. To conform to the WCAG
guidelines, it is required that a website satisfies at least all of the Level A Success Criteria or that
there is an alternate version of the site which does so, or conformance is not possible
(Understanding Conformance, n.d.).
2. Full pages – This requirement states that the entire web page must conform to the WCAG
guidelines, rather than just part of the page. There are exceptions to this requirement where certain
supplemental pieces of information do not have to conform as long as they are available on another
page which does conform (Understanding Conformance, n.d.).
3. Complete processes – This requirement dictates that when a web page is part of a series of web
pages which are connected in one process, such as a sequence of steps on separate web pages which
must all be completed to accomplish a goal, all of the

Internet Accessibility : The Disability Of The Internet...
According to US Census Bureau [4], approximately 56.7 million people (18.7%) of the US
population have a disability of some kind, and about 38.3% (12.6%) have a severe disability [5].
Hence, users with disabilities occupy a wide range of consumer market.
Statistics have shown that nearly 85% of disabled consumers preferred to limit their shopping to
sites which they know are accessible and 81% of them have chosen to pay more for a product from
an accessible website rather than buy the same from a website that is not accessible [8]. Many
companies and organizations are navigating their way from expensive and time–consuming lawsuits
initiated by consumers, businesses, employees and vendors, because of inaccessible websites [7]. In
another survey, only two of the nineteen award winning colleges that provide instructional software
responded that they were aware of accessibility issues. About 65% of the remaining seventeen
companies were not aware of accessibility as an issue and 100% of them were not currently
addressing accessibility as an issue [9].
When the Congress formed the ADA in 1990, the internet had really not developed. So it did not
explicitly cover internet accessibility. However, the ADA was built flexibly and expansions were
made to accommodate new technologies as they developed [7]. Currently, the regulations are being
amended by the ADA to more specifically cover website accessibility.

Annotated Bibliography On The Library
Introduction:
Library users today are able to meet most their information needs through the sources outside the
library. The ubiquitous access to internet today and the rise of the companies like Google, Amazon
and Wikipedia have provided viable alternatives to users for their information needs. So libraries are
experiencing an evolutionary change in their traditional services. And the rapid evolving digital
technologies can be seen as an opportunity for libraries as their need to evolve in the face of these
new challenges.
Linked Data which works as the framework behind the Semantic Web, an idea developed by Tim
Berners–Lee, the inventor of World Wide Web, aims at revolving the Internet into one large database
instead of simply distinct collection of data. Today, where internet has been the first choice for the
users to look for information, libraries should seize the advantage of the concept behind Linked
Data. By attempting to make their resources available on the web, libraries can bring back their
users because of the allure of the high quality and authoritative resources owned by the libraries.
Such technological development can definitely bring a number of benefits to libraries by allowing
the libraries and their resources to connect with their users on the web. Professionals in the field
have considered the use of Linked data technologies for the benefit of Libraries. Many papers have
been written by experts underlying the benefits in the past decade. And

Banks that offer financial products and services through the Internet must be able to meet their
customers' expectations. Banks must also ensure they have the right product mix and capacity to
deliver accurate, timely, and reliable services to develop a high level of confidence in the customers.
Customers who do business over the Internet are likely to have little tolerance for errors or
omissions from financial institutions that do not have sophisticated internal controls to manage their
Internet banking business. Likewise, customers will expect continuous availability of the product
and Web pages that are easy to navigate. Attacks or intrusion attempts on banks' computer and
network systems are major concern. Studies show that systems are more vulnerable to internal
attacks than external, because internal system users have knowledge of the system and access.
Banks should have sound preventive and detective controls to protect their Internet banking systems
from exploitation both internally and externally. Contingency and business resumption planning is
necessary for banks to be sure that they can deliver products and services in the event of adverse
circumstances. Security issues should be considered when the institution develops its contingency
and business resumption plans, sophisticated as those at the primary processing site. High levels of

The University Writing Center And The Academic Success Center
The University Writing Center (UWC) and the Academic Success Center (ASC) are two of the
university initiatives that help students enrich their academic experience. While UWC assists
students in improving their written and oral communication skills through one to one consulting
sessions, online resources, and workshops, ASC works to enhance students' intellectual performance
through academic coaching, supplemental instruction, drop–in tutoring sessions, and peer
mentoring. Both of the organizations take a collaborative learning approach to encourage students to
develop necessary study skills for academic success and increase student retention. ASC offers
various student development programs; however, our focus for this proposal will be on drop–in
tutoring services offered by ASC.
The number of students using these campus resources is growing every semester. Although many
students on campus are willing to use these services, their availability is limited. Students are often
discouraged to use these resources due unavailability of appointments, and long wait times. In order
to increase the efficiency of these programs and to uphold to their mission of helping students reach
their full academic potential, I purpose to research several strategies that will increase the

Usability and Web Accessibility
Assistive devices and technologies come in a wide assortment each designed to address specific
limitations and help those with those limitations lead a normal or close to normal lifestyle. These
devices can help address problems with hearing loss, or voice, speech, or language–based
communications. A great number of devices and technologies are now available to help those with
limitations access and use the internet in ways never before possible.
Understanding Web Usability
In order for a website to effectively deliver content to the user, several key factors must be present.
First, the website must be available and accessible. Availability is a straight forward concept where
the website must be reachable and functioning. The accessibility of a website is a bit more of a
complicated issue. According to the Web Accessibility Initiative, "Web accessibility means that
people with disabilities can use the web. More specifically, Web accessibility means that people with
disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web and that they can
contribute to the Web" (Henry, 2005).
Next, a website must have clarity. Clarity refers to a websites ability to provide visitors with the
information they are looking for. This can be accomplished by designing the website with simplicity,

An example of this would be the Apple Pay technology. Apple Pay is a mobile payments service and
digital wallet application that utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) to initiate secure payment
transactions between contactless payment terminals and devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and
Apple Watch (Webopedia). Apple Pay allows owners of Apple devices the opportunity to add
multiple credit or debit cards onto that device and instantly pay at a location by simply placing their
device over the scanner. This technology could be implemented into Howard University's Bison One
Card by adding Dining Dollars or Bison Bucks into the application software, thus eliminating the
need to always swipe your card at various locations around campus. This would also eliminate the
struggle some students encounter of not being able to eat or swipe into the café because they have
lost or misplaced their card. The biggest problem Howard University faces with implementing this
new technology is the substantial cost. Blue Pay breaks down the Apple Pay implementation costs
with prices of the NFC terminals in range from $300 to $500, excluding the cost of additional
software upgrades if needed. Depending on which locations, if not all, across campus will support
this technology, this cost will surely add up. Merchants must also weigh in the cost of employee
training. Employees must understand how to properly use NFC contactless readers to process
payments. The training should also include refunds, chargebacks, and cancellations. This cost can
vary, depending on the size of the staff. Blue Pay ultimately estimates the total cost ranging
anywhere from $1000 to $2000 per unit after factoring in hardware, software and wages (Blue

Employment Laws: HRM Strategy
Employment Laws: HRM Strategy Objective The objective of this study is to research the
employment laws in the state of Georgia and review the various designations of employment laws
that are listed. The employment laws of the state of Georgia will then be applied to the HRM

Introduction The State of Georgia states specific information about employment of individuals with
physical disabilities. Specifically stated is the following: "Disability: Employers are prohibited from
engaging in discrimination against qualified individuals with a disability by the Georgia Equal
Employment for People with Disabilities Code, The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans

Technology And Its Impact On Society
Technology is one of the biggest advancement in the history of our universe, and the powers of it are
good and bad. People mainly gain from the use of technology and its many uses. Without
technology today, the world would be a much, much different place because of the major setback in
communication and other activities and resources. The things that technology impacts are family,
education, and health. Family is one area technology impacts life in general. "88% of Americans
adults have a cell phone, 58% have a desktop computer, 61% have a laptop, 18% own an e–book
reader, and 18% have a tablet computer" (Casey). This fact shows that many adults are open and
exposed to technology. With this accessibility, families are broken. This technology can be used to
disrupt regular conversations with family. In our current society, adults and children are extremely
attached to their devices. This statement is exactly what Montag's wife shows to her. She is overly
attached to her television that nothing else in her life really matters or even gives her satisfaction.
Montag 's wife lives for television and nothing else. This may be extreme, but in the world we live
in some of these situations are present. "According to a study on media influence done by the Kaiser
Family Foundation, 8–18–year–olds spend over seven hours a day using entertainment media. That

Annotated Bibliography On Food

  • 1. Annotated Bibliography On Food Annotated Bibliography Kiener, Robert. "Should government regulate unhealthy foods?" CQ researcher. CQ researcher, 3 Oct. 2014. Web. 15 October 2014. The main point from this report by Author Robert Keiner is the regard to food policy debates. The Author is a free lance writer in Vermont who has an M.A. in Asian studies, and seems reliable due to him using more than one point of view and not just his own. The Authors audience is probably people who look at unhealthy food as a problem in the world, and agree that healthy food is a better choice. This report is just another explanation on why unhealthy foods can be bad for you, but it was explained very thoroughly with a lot of helpful information. The graphs and maps shown on the report are very useful for my research because it shows information about how much organic food, and fast food people consume. This resource was found using the online Rio Salado Library on CQ researcher. C. Ni Mhurchu. "Monitoring the availability of healthy and unhealthy foods and non–alcoholic beverages in community and consumer retail food environments globally." Obesity reviews. Academic Search Premier. Oct. 2013. Web. 16 October 2014. The main point of this review is about retail food environments and the influence it has on dietary behaviors and health outcomes. The Author of the review is C. Ni Mhurchu and is from the National Institute for Heath Innovation, so he seems qualified for this kind of issue and is Porter 4 reliable with the facts that are given. The audience for this review are people who have the same feelings on obesity, and the overall affects that retail food environments can have on people and their health. This reviews relationship with the other sources is that it comes down to unhealthy food and obesity, and how it can overall be managed for the sake of peoples health. In this review the thing that stood out to me is all of the facts that are given, they are useful for me and for other people in learning about this issue. Chapter 2: Literature Review This chapter contains a review of all relevant areas related to the project including Web accessibility, Web accessibility barriers, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0, Thailand Information and Communication Technology Policy Framework (2011–2020), Thai Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (TWCAG), Works about web accessibility in Thailand and Evaluating Accessibility and Web2Access. 2.1 Web Accessibility Currently the use of multimedia such as sound, still images, moving images are all used in all website to make their content more interesting and to make the design of the website aesthetically pleasing, interesting and easy to read. Therefore, it is a necessity to think how accessible of the content of the website is, this is called 'web accessibility ' which accommodates all the users, such as those with disabilities, normal users, or elderly. This is particularly important for those with disabilities, websites should be made with consideration for this group and the content and services should be made accessible as equal as those normal users (Henry, 2006). Carter and Markel (2001) found that only 1% of web developers pay attention to the accessibility of the website, this is because most web developers believe that to make the website accessible a lot of resources would be required, such as times and money. Currently, there are many websites being developed and more users using. When websites are designed without any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Benefits An injunction to 'think ethically' about a situation is not helpful. Perhaps if one has a background in moral philosophy this would work, but usually both students and IT professionals require some form of guidance as to how to achieve an appropriate outcome. The technique has proven itself as a means to achieving this, at least for PIIT students. This approach is not dependent on a particular standard, such as the code of ethics of a particular professional society. It is a technique that can be applied in a variety of circumstances, not limited by technological, cultural or religious background. The approach is not limited by one's moral philosophy. One can use this technique effectively and be an objectivist, holding that certain moral truths remain good independently of personal likes and dislikes, or a relativist, holding that truths are relative to the individual ... • 12. Assistive Technology And Eportfolios Can Pair Well Assist... Assistive technology and ePortfolios can pair well to assist disabled students and help create and maintain an environment for learning that will promote respect for and appreciation of human diversity. As time and technology goes on there have been great strides in integrating the blind into society on a basis of equality, ensuring full access to information technology and resources. College or university students with disabilities could use the ePortfolio to showcase their characteristics of their learning strengths, styles, and needs. An ePortfolio made accessible to the visually impaired student could participate along with other students as a team member in an inclusive environment for a class project, a senior capstone or any other use of the digital portfolio. Just like any other student, an ePortfolio that equips the visually impaired through assistive technology can be a valuable tool in conveying that student's interests and abilities. As assistive technology improves and various multimodal technologies integrate, an ePortfolio can create opportunities for students with disabilities. There are currently several accessibility issues facing digital portfolio projects for disabled students and the need for better technical support, and according to Oswal (2013), "besides ensuring the accessibility of the ePortfolio system, making use of only accessible tools for content development is central to disabled students' success with their portfolio projects." • 16. Binge Drinking And The Minimum Legal Drinking Age Karzhova Marina Erin Beaver English Composition II 5 November 2014 Binge Drinking and the Minimum Legal Drinking Age In the year 1984, President Ronald Reagan enacted a law that increased the minimum drinking Age all U.S states to 21 years. As a result, it is believed that the mortality rates due to road accidents reduced from 5,000 in the 80's to 2, 000 in 2005 (Dean–Mooney). However, the issue of binge drinking remains unsolved with learning institutions having to deal with it every semester. In response to this, 134 college presidents formed the Amethyst Initiative, which is, a proposal allowing persons aged between 18 and 20 to consume alcoholic drinks Conversely, the Mothers against Drunk Driving (MADD), which pushed for the enactment of the law in 1984 believes that the Amethyst Initiative is misplaced. The push for a lower drinking age is a battle between the parental community and the student fraternity. For the drinking age too be lowered the Amethyst Initiative must compile concrete research and facts to support its findings. Nonetheless, historical data shows that increase in the minimum legal drinking age results in a decrease in the amount of deaths. As argued by Barry, Stellefson and Woosley, "the MLDA clearly reduces alcohol consumption and its associated harms" (8). In light of this, one can argue that the minimum drinking age should remain at 21 as lowering it may cause fatal consequences. The factors can be broadly classified as internal, such as ... Essay about Ethics: User Interface and Graphical Icons Ethics for the Technology Age John Rankin Colorado Technical University Online PHIL340– 1301B–01 03/26/2013 You are working on a software application, written in C#. The program is heavily laced with graphical icons and the screen resolution is set to 1440 x 900. Late in the development process, your company signed a contract with the federal government. This means all applications need to comply with the ADA and Section 508. What kind of impact does that have on the software? Should this type of issue have been addressed earlier? Should it have been known the company was negotiating with the federal government? What are other issues that could arise because of this? This change will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You are still in the design phase of development, and the stakeholders come to you and inform you that you need to make sure the CMS has a Web–interface and is cross–platform. While the Web– interface was always a consideration, you were originally intending it to be a product usable on one specific O/S. How does now having to make sure there is a Web interface impact the design? Now that you have to make sure the CMS is cross–platform, how does that impact the design? What are other issues that could arise for this? Luckily in this scenario the design was still in its development phase. Any change in the program is basically irrelevant now. Meaning it is early in the developmental stage better a change comes up here than further down the road, especially if the Web Interface was already in consideration. This should have made the switch basically easy. So basically a well discussed plan should be made with the stake holders and make sure this is what everyone wants from the project. A change down the road would be devastating and might make the project harder to complete. Even though the CMS will be changed to cross platform the impact as stated above should be very minimal. The code will have to be changed but a good project manager should be able to adapt to the change and handle any complications that may come up. By assigning the proper personal to the proper task should handle any change that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Assessment Of A Community 's Decision For Real Initiative According to Monmonier (1996), those who do have Internet and GIS accessibility face the potential to be placed in a vulnerable position. He believes that the public who is "armed with a GIS but lacking the savvy to use the system appropriately becomes vulnerable to sarcastic attacks from site advocates". Meaning, that a community's opinion may not be taken seriously or may be misrepresented in the eyes of policymakers because the people in that community may not be using the GIS software correctly, therefore they do not comprehend the data that is being presented to them in a GIS platform. This connects to another complication, that the general public may not have the basic training requirements needed to properly understand GIS software. Referring back to Carver, et al (2001), one of the issues they encountered during the observation of the Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation's Planning for Real initiative was a general lack of familiarity with GIS software, especially from older age groups of manual trade. The solution to these issues cannot be resolved in a short period of time as these are mainly socio– economic complications, however, attainable solutions are present. As far as GIS comprehensive, this will become less of an issue as more people become familiar with using computers and maps through work and education (Carver et al, 2001). There has been a strong concern, however, that unhealthy fast–food has been served and advertised at cafeteria in public schools nationwide and legislation against serving and promoting these foods may be necessary to solve the problem. Schlosser revealed in his book ten years ago that "nation's food chains are marketing their products in public schools" (Schlosser 52) and points out that "about 30 percent of the public high schools in the United States offer branded fast food" (Schlosser 56). Most Guidelines and standards are vital from a practical standpoint. However, it is also important to be aware of that the guidelines and standards cannot accommodate all users all of the time. The areas where the guidelines or standards are not practical or vital, it needs to be clearly identified and alternate methods need to be known in order to achieve accessibility and usability. From the time when the introduction of the WCAG 2.0 in 2008, there are a selection of success criteria and methods suggested that could be used to achieve usability and accessibility (Zeldman & Marcotte 2010). According to US Census Bureau [4], approximately 56.7 million people (18.7%) of the US population have a disability of some kind, and about 38.3% (12.6%) have a severe disability [5]. Hence, users with disabilities occupy a wide range of consumer market. Statistics have shown that nearly 85% of disabled consumers preferred to limit their shopping to sites which they know are accessible and 81% of them have chosen to pay more for a product from an accessible website rather than buy the same from a website that is not accessible [8]. Many companies and organizations are navigating their way from expensive and time–consuming lawsuits initiated by consumers, businesses, employees and vendors, because of inaccessible websites [7]. In another survey, only two of the nineteen award winning colleges that provide instructional software responded that they were aware of accessibility issues. About 65% of the remaining seventeen companies were not aware of accessibility as an issue and 100% of them were not currently addressing accessibility as an issue [9]. When the Congress formed the ADA in 1990, the internet had really not developed. So it did not explicitly cover internet accessibility. Banks must also ensure they have the right product mix and capacity to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable services to develop a high level of confidence in the customers. Customers who do business over the Internet are likely to have little tolerance for errors or omissions from financial institutions that do not have sophisticated internal controls to manage their Internet banking business. Likewise, customers will expect continuous availability of the product and Web pages that are easy to navigate. Attacks or intrusion attempts on banks' computer and network systems are major concern. Studies show that systems are more vulnerable to internal attacks than external, because internal system users have knowledge of the system and access. Banks should have sound preventive and detective controls to protect their Internet banking systems from exploitation both internally and externally. Contingency and business resumption planning is necessary for banks to be sure that they can deliver products and services in the event of adverse circumstances. Security issues should be considered when the institution develops its contingency and business resumption plans, sophisticated as those at the primary processing site. The University Writing Center And The Academic Success Center The University Writing Center (UWC) and the Academic Success Center (ASC) are two of the university initiatives that help students enrich their academic experience. While UWC assists students in improving their written and oral communication skills through one to one consulting sessions, online resources, and workshops, ASC works to enhance students' intellectual performance through academic coaching, supplemental instruction, drop–in tutoring sessions, and peer mentoring. Both of the organizations take a collaborative learning approach to encourage students to develop necessary study skills for academic success and increase student retention. ASC offers various student development programs; however, our focus for this proposal will be on drop–in tutoring services offered by ASC. The number of students using these campus resources is growing every semester. Although many students on campus are willing to use these services, their availability is limited. Students are often discouraged to use these resources due unavailability of appointments, and long wait times. In order to increase the efficiency of these programs and to uphold to their mission of helping students reach their full academic potential, I purpose to research several strategies that will increase the accessibility of these resources to a larger student population. Web Credibility Research Paper Usability and Web Accessibility Assistive devices and technologies come in a wide assortment each designed to address specific limitations and help those with those limitations lead a normal or close to normal lifestyle. These devices can help address problems with hearing loss, or voice, speech, or language–based communications. A great number of devices and technologies are now available to help those with limitations access and use the internet in ways never before possible. Understanding Web Usability In order for a website to effectively deliver content to the user, several key factors must be present. First, the website must be available and accessible. Availability is a straight forward concept where the website must be reachable and functioning. The accessibility of a website is a bit more of a complicated issue. According to the Web Accessibility Initiative, "Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can use the web. More specifically, Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web and that they can contribute to the Web" (Henry, 2005). From the iPod to the iTouch/iPhone to the Mac, Apple's rapid growth as a technology superpower could not have been possible without an intricate information system. Apple Pay is a mobile payments service and digital wallet application that utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) to initiate secure payment transactions between contactless payment terminals and devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch (Webopedia). Apple Pay allows owners of Apple devices the opportunity to add multiple credit or debit cards onto that device and instantly pay at a location by simply placing their device over the scanner. This technology could be implemented into Howard University's Bison One Card by adding Dining Dollars or Bison Bucks into the application software, thus eliminating the need to always swipe your card at various locations around campus. This would also eliminate the struggle some students encounter of not being able to eat or swipe into the café because they have lost or misplaced their card. The biggest problem Howard University faces with implementing this new technology is the substantial cost. Blue Pay breaks down the Apple Pay implementation costs with prices of the NFC terminals in range from $300 to $500, excluding the cost of additional software upgrades if needed. Depending on which locations, if not all, across campus will support this technology, this cost will surely add up. Merchants must also weigh in the cost of employee training. Employees must understand how to properly use NFC contactless readers to process payments. The training should also include refunds, chargebacks, and cancellations. This cost can vary, depending on the size of the staff. Blue Pay ultimately estimates the total cost ranging anywhere from $1000 to $2000 per unit after factoring in hardware, software and wages (Blue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
