1. Question two
Howdoes your media product represent particular social
groups?
The social groupswe used in our film “Obsidian” where consisting of
the stereotypical groupssuch as the teenagers being in a horror film
and the useof gendersused. For examplein our film weused two
girls as the main characters and onewith blonde hair, which is
stereotypically the first one to die. Other stereotypeswe decided to
use, as a group is the stereotypeof the killer being a male. The killer
stereotypically wears black, which makes him seem mysterious, and
the audienceguess he is up to something.
Wedidn’tchallenge any stereotypes as we followed convention of
characters. Wefollowed most conventionsof horror and characters.
The teenagers we used in our horror film followed convention and
stereotypes of horror film characters, which developed our horror
film genre.
Wechose to represent things in such a way by usingcharacters that
fall into a certain stereotype of character. For example Beth playsthe
blonde, tori, and this is stereotypically the character that is killed off
first in the horror film. The other example is the killer, he is dressed
in black and is male. He is dressed in black to come across mysterious
and this disguises his identity.
The languagechoices we have chosen are chosen because wewanted
them to sound likea teenager and the mother is a moremature tone,
which goes with what, a stereotypical mother soundslike.
The location we used is the horror film weused goes with convention
as it is dark and one convention of the location of horror films is that
the setting it would be set in is conventionally dark and the setting
we used wasdark. The other settings we used wereinside the house.
This is a convention of horror as most horror films show aspects of a
house in the film.
The useof coloursin our horror film where the useof black as the
killer was wearingblack to make him invisible to the people
watching. Furthermorewe used the certain coloursof lighting in
2. certain parts of the film like for examplethe use of lighting the street
was used so only you can see the faces of the main characters.
