This proposal outlines George Wetton's filmmaking media project (FMP) titled "The Target Zone: Blood Moon". The project will include promotional materials like trailers, posters, a magazine cover story, and DVD cover for an excerpt from George's horror detective book. The content will be aimed at a 16-24 male audience and explore themes of prejudice set in 1980s England. Over 7 weeks, George will complete contextual research, product research, a proposal, pre-production experiments, and pre-production planning to create the promotional materials for his FMP excerpt. He outlines the tasks he will complete each week to prepare for the project's production and promotion.

Centre name and Number:
York College 48357
Student name and Unique learner Number:
George Wetton 5313100938
Working Title and Date of release:
Title - The Target Zone: Blood Moon
Release date – 16th May 2021
Product’s Purpose:
My product’s sole purpose is to simply entertain the audience. Whilst the promotional stuff is the
more technical aspects in why I want to apply to my FMP. Showing my audience all the different
various ways and means you can sell your product. I want them to appreciate all the different ways
and means that goes into selling a film. In terms of entertainment. I want the audience to feel
invested in the characters, but they won’t be seeing much of this because I’m only releasing a
small montage.
Main area of activity:
The main medium I will be working in is filmmaking, but it will also lean into creative design when
creating such things like the posters, magazine, and DVD cover. Another area of field is sound
when I create my music for the film using Garageband.
Genre:
I shall be releasing the promotional material for an excerpt of a book that I am making. The genre
of this book is a comedic horror detective series. It juggles the three genres in which it does not
look too much like spoof and takes itself seriously. I was inspired by the works of the Kingsman
series. Set to look like a spy series but it is taking itself seriously with the comedy thrown in and
does not hold to much correlation to the James Bond stereotypes that a thrown in which look
rather cheap. So, in short. It’s a detective comedic horror series which has been translated from a
book I’m making to screen.
Content
My project will include:
Videos: sneak peek/teaser trailer/ full trailer/ small excerpt clip/ music created for it.
DVD: Cover art
Posters: teaser poster/ main poster/ 4x Character posters
Front cover: Magazine and article
My main concept idea is to release all the different ways in which a product can be sold and
promote itself. The trailer and the posters stand for themselves as the most common way to sell a
product. Posters are what I enjoy making the most. So, it is this that I’m looking forward to trying to
promote the most. The DVD cover like the posters is another creative aspect that I want to explore.
Whilst it holds more technical features, such as DVD company holds and a summary of the film. I
am still going to enjoy making it.
For the magazine it will be an article hosting an interview with the main star of the film. This is one
way of the promoting the film and giving out more context of the film in a way that the trailers and
posters don’t. The photography needs to look professional and will be given out when doing the
photographs for the posters. As well as the photography images needed for the DVD cover. These
images will be in-character shots but the images supplied in the magazine will look more
professional and will be coming from the actor that that is playing that character. Which is me. Any
filming which comes out of this project will be editing on the software premiere pro. For any print
material such as the magazines, DVD cover and the poster. They will be made on Photoshop. For

my music that will be created on Garageband.
With the research. I have already before this, conducted a few looks into the subject that I will be
doing for my FMP. Over the course of the summer, I have looked into many unique camera
movements and techniques. So that my final product will look as interesting as possible. I have
also generated many different questions to ask during the interview in the magazine by looking at
previous existing magazine article. I have also looked a variety of different posters, official and fan
art through the socials of Instagram and Pinterest.
Audience:
My film will be aimed at an age rating of 18 because it is a horror that holds the traditional uses of
gore. I do not want the gore to be too overdone however like the ‘evil dead’ series or to throw in a
serious one the ‘saw’ franchise. Whilst my film is rated at this age rating. My target audience will
be between the ages of 16-24. The reason I have chosen these particular age categories is
because it’s this age category that is often stereotyped into watching these types of films. This
natural because it an age where they are expanding and opening to different types of media.
Preferably ones that they could not watch before. For the obvious reason that it links into horror
there could not be a younger age group than 16 because when focusing on stereotypes. People in
their young teens do not like horror but as they get older, they get more comfortable and
appreciate the cinema a lot more.
This film will be aimed at male figures in terms of gender because it’s usually that gender that take
a deep interest into horror unlike the opposite sex. Whilst females do enjoy horror too. When
stereotyping its larger group towards the audience. However, because the film that I am doing is
within a mixed genre. The people that do not like the horror or gore will appreciate the comedy and
other aspects that the film. Subgenres such as mystery and romance which are added in are
something that I want to illustrate in my trailer without taking the overall horror theme away. A lot of
the characters in the film excerpt and trailers are male as well. So, they will be relating to those
characters a lot more than females will.
When it comes to what social class this film will be aimed at it will be towards the lower class. I
think this is because it will be this audience that can relate to the characters a lot more. Social
classes clash in where the bully of the film is quite rich and snobby. Looking down at the main
characters as they struggle to find work. This film is set during the 80’s where there was a lot of
unemployment issues and factories were being shut down. So even in terms of production I do not
have to worry too much about going to fancy locations because its what is fitting to the story.
Whilst York is a lovely place. I don’t have to worry about any areas particularly standing out. In this
segment that I have chosen for the clip. I really want to illustrate the poverty and depressive state
that a lot of people were in. this can be shown in many ways through the houses or even the
miserable characters surrounding the scene.
This film I consider to be aimed towards achiever when looking at it psychographically. This is
because of how I want the characters to be portrayed. I want them to be strong willed and brave.
You can see the flaws that each character has and yet you also see how much they are achieving.
The film is a journey of theses three characters getting stronger together and becoming a mini
family. You can see this as the film develops. I would not place it among someone who’s a
belonger because whilst the film holds characters who fit into their day-to-day lifestyle and you see
other character living their same dull lives. This is a focus on the characters that will have that will
have the most screen time and their influence on the audience. I would also place this audience in
a ‘Type A’ social group. With the meaning of trust being a big thing in the film and I want this
message to come across in the clip as the audience see that the people we should be trusting are
just as suspicious as the culprits.

Schedule
Legal & Ethical Considerations:
With it being an 18 there will be offensive material present. If all possible i would restrict young
people from watching it because it may be deemed too offensive for a younger audience. As I
have said above, I would consider this film to be appropriate for a 16-year-old but no younger. It is
set in the 80s. So, there will be material that will show that is a product of its time. Prejudice is a
big theme within the film. With one of the main antagonists holding prejudice values against
anyone that is different. Whether its race or disability. These themes will be present in the film.
These are placed in here to show that issues like what is happening in the film. Happen in real life
and they even happen today. To tone down the uses of offensiveness would be unrealistic and not
work with the antagonist I have in mind. However, to make sure that I prevent any offensiveness
that will affect people. I will have karma come back to bite that person in a bigger way then how he
maliciously intended. If an offensive slur is stated, then a person on the good side will punch him
and then a fight will break lose. Often resulting in him getting in trouble because he is known for
his bad boy behaviour. In terms of social class, I would not consider the way that it’s presented to
be offensive to anyone because its more about presenting these people as human beings who feel
vulnerable and are affected by not having a lot of money. It is in no way a presentation on showing
how to belittle people within that social class. Whilst these characters grow, become stronger and
more developed. In no way should they become richer. These are characters who I want the
audience to look up to despite not having much money. Showing that everyone is important and
unique. Life lessons aren’t learnt from having lots of money and that’s what I want these
characters to go through. The morals to becoming better people. Certain things have inspired me,
and I have taken my own creative route to mix the inspirations into something that I want to make.
My product will also be completely original. I shall be using fake companies that I have already
made to promote the film. Everything down from the music that will be created on Garageband to
the magazine in which the interview is featured. I want to be as creative as possible when
releasing this product and showing the range of different processes I had to go through with
making my product. Instead of just releasing something that already existed.
Rationale: 150-word approx.
This year has been more aimed at the FMP because that has been the most important part of the
project. There has been a lot of preparation for it this year in terms of contextual research and
video. This has been a lot of editing and filming which is in good practise for this FMP coming up
this year. Though we did a whole range of different stuff. Project four had the first year had the
requirement of making magazine which shows that I already some experience of this field already.
along with this my video editing skills have definitely developed the most. Making a short film at the
beginning of year one, video game halfway through the year, our FMP’S last year and then the
factual documentary this year are just a few ways and means as to how my skill have developed
and got more better. We have also used Garageband for any sound editing, aftereffects to create
parallax’s and adobe illustrator for any other additional stuff. My skills and confidence have
developed massively over the past two year and I hope to show this through my FMP.
How will your project be evaluated and reviewed: 150 word approx.
There will be a variety of different ways and means of how I will evaluate my work. A lot of it from
my perspective but also asking the opinions through others. This will be seen through stuff such as
surveys and one to one interviews. Where people will be able to give the constructive criticism on
the product. Giving out the strengths and weaknesses of it. This will be done before and after the
product. In terms of my own self-reflection this shall be done through the weekly reflections. This
will be way in which I keep myself grounded to my work and plan to get everything that I have
planned done in the one week that I hope it is.
