Delectable Mountains 1
2. Who goes there!, thundered a Voice.
Mip and Mop stopped in their tracks.
They couldn’t see a soul.
‘It’s Mip and Mop’, Mip eventually piped
up. ‘We mean you no harm -‘
As if you could do harm to me! thundered
the Voice.
‘Mr Voice - or Mrs Voice - where are
you?’, asked Mop.
I am neither Mr or Mrs, I am ungendered
and multigendered, and I am left and
right, below and above, and in all the 16
dimensions!, and you have no place on my
land!
3. ‘We won’t be here long. We just want to get to the Land of Beulah.’
‘I’m sure you do! But how will you!
H-how will we?’
Yes! How will you! You can’t just walk there, you know!
Mip and Mop waited expectantly, hoping for elucidation.
Lost your language?
No MamSir!
Well use it!
4. There was a thunderclap, a flash of lightning, and the mountain range
which had formerly looked quite friendly rose up magisterially around
them. There was no way they would be able to walk over that. They
wandered morosely over to a sheer cliff face. After studying it a while,
Mop called Mip over.
‘Look closely’, he said, as he shone his torch at a slant. ‘Do you see writing?
5. ‘A Href’, Mip read. ‘What do you think it means? And here’, she indicated,
touching it -
- And they were through, gone, somewhere else. Mip and Mop found
themselves standing on top of the mountain that had formerly seemed
impassable.
