The Case:
A close friend of yours, John Doe, has just been arrested on federal charges of money laundering
and theft. As part of the investigation, law enforcement is beginning to conduct investigations on
Johns family and friends to see if any additional people were involved in the crimes. For now, they
are only conducting research using open sources (information that can be found online or through
other publicly available sources). One investigator, Ms. Barb Young, is assigned to perform an
investigation on YOU. The only information that Ms. Young currently has is your full name and the
city you live in.
The Assignment Your assignment is to put yourself in the position of Ms. Barb Young and utilize
open sources to accumulate all publicly available information on the target, which in this case, is
you! While performing this analysis, you should document all of your steps, the information you
were able to find, where and how you found the information, and what information you were
unable to find. Once your analysis is complete, you need to write a report detailing your findings,
along with screenshots or documentation of all of the information you were able to find.
The categories of information you should attempt to find include AT A MINIMUM, the following:
