2. Accomplishments: Gena
Gena is one our our
biggest
accomplishments as a
team. When we first
met Gena she was
completely
unresponsive to
Jumpstart or regular
class activities. This
year we have seen her
grow so much. She
now write her name
and all of her family’s
names during
Welcome and she
smiles.
3. Accomplishments: Family
Involvement
This year Sara has
been a wonderful asset
to our team, especially
with regards to family
involvement.
Throughout the year
she sent home
activities and letters. At
one point in the
semester a parent e-
mailed her to thank her
for her hard work.
4. Team bonding: Bowling!
In the beginning of the year my team and I went bowling for a
team bonding activity. We had WAY too much fun. So much fun
that we forgot to take pictures
5. Team Goals
This year my team created some realistic and
achievable goals that included:
Engage in Family Involvement at least once a
month
Leave drama at home
Provide Enhancements at least once
Each child will learn how to spell their name
I am happy to say that most of these goals were fully
or partially achieved! Not every one did
enhancements and not everyone did Family
Involvement at least once a month
6. Team Leader Goals
• Provide enhancements for circle time
• Engage in family involvement
• Don’t forget to engage with children
• Know every child’s name
• Confront any corps member issue regardless of how
uncomfortable it is
Although I don’t feel like I did any of these perfectly, I did meet
most of my goals. My favorite goal to accomplish was goal three.
The hardest to accomplish was goal five.
7. What Can I Take
Away From
This?
Jumpstart is one of the most
influential and inspiring thing I
have ever done. What can I
take away from it? Where do I
start?! I have learned the
important of community and
early literacy. I learned how to
be a leader and a child
advocate. Jumpstart showed
me that everyone deserves to
succeed. I’ve learned how to
manage my time and how to
be a better role model
8. How has
being a team
leader
effected my
life?
The biggest way being a
team leader has effected my
life is by reminding me how
much I love teaching. I have
also learned how dynamic
Visitacion Valley is as a
community by showing me
how the community supports
its differences. Being a team
leader allowed me to realize
that I need to work on how to
better encourage my team.
