Filming the phone call scene decision making
1. Filming The Phone Call Scene
For the ending of our opening sequence we had a choice of either filming a scene
where My Character is playing cards with her friends. Then we will show a shoot of
cards laying on the table, but no one sitting around the table except from myself. The
second choice we had was a phone call; The characters friend will call up Bethlem
Hospital and ask to come for a visit. However, the receptionist will reply back saying
“I’m sorry she has not been seen for the past 3 years…”
We had to come up with a short script even though it was only for a minute
conversation. Also, this the only bit in the opening sequence where there is someone
speaking, as I do not talk at all. This creates enigma to the audience to ‘why is this
character is not speaking?’
For the phone call scene I and Thabsoom spoke, I took in charge of the camera and
the sound effects. We used a phone ringing sound from YouTube, this would be the
start of the scene where the receptionist picks up and speaks. For the bit where the
receptionist is searching about Carrie Jackson patient record, I type on the keyboard
randomly, to create the illusion of the receptionist searching up her name.
The scene does not show either mine or Thabsoom face as we wanted to keep the
idea of only showing the main character in the opening sequence, to create
loneliness and isolation.
