2. The film opening starts with few close-up shots of the glass
items. The director choose the glass items to signify that the
girls are delicate and easy to break. This is then shown by the
mediam closed frame shot of the girls jumping out the window
near the end of the film opening.
3. After the close-up shots we get a medium shot of all the three
girls playing with the dolls. The medium shot is used to show us
how many girls are in the scene and to show the power of the
woman in black later on, as she is being able to control all of
them three.
4. Further into the film opening we get to see again a few close-up
shots of the delicate glass and medium shots of girls. However
after that we get to see a close-up of the girls face. This is used
to show their facial expression that they are being happy, but
also to get the audience to get to know them.
5. We then get a long shot of all the girls looking at something we can’t
see. This cinematography technique is used to create tension as the
characters know more than the audience does. This also makes the
audience think who is behind the camera and what girls are looking at.
Creating a character for the woman in black as carrying from this scene
the girls go to kill them self. Creating the character of woman in black
being evil.
6. Finally we get an extreme close-up of the girls hand trying to open the
window. This shows that something bad is about to happen and the
director wants us to focus on the most important part, making us guess
what is happening somewhere else as we can only see the extreme
close-up of the hand.
7. In this film opening there is so many
cinematography techniques that are used to
create tenstion and make the audience think
what is going on. This will help me in my
production as I know now what shots produce
what effects and how to use them correctly.
